Dominic was staring at me like he couldn’t decide whether to chop me into pieces or pull my hair and French kiss me.
Dominic
I got her fired. Okay, so I’d had a bad day and took it out on a bystander in a pizza shop. But there’s nothing innocent about Ally Morales. She proves that her first day of her new job… in my office… after being hired by my mother.
So maybe her colorful, annoying, … colorful, annoying, inexplicably alluring personality brightens up the magazine’s offices that have felt like a prison for the past year. Maybe I like that she argues with me in front of the editorial staff. And maybe my after-hours fantasies are haunted by those brown eyes and that sharp tongue.
But that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be the next Russo man to take advantage of his position. I might be a second-generation asshole, but I am not my father.
She’s working herself to death at half a dozen dead-end jobs for some secret reason she doesn’t feel like sharing with me. And I’m going to fix it all. Don’t accuse me of caring. She’s nothing more than a puzzle to be solved. If I can get her to quit, I can finally peel away all those layers. Then I can go back to salvaging the family name and forget all about the dancing, beer-slinging brunette.
Ally
Ha. Hold my beer, Grumpy Grump Face.
Author’s Note: A steamy, swoony workplace romantic comedy with a grumpy boss hero determined to save the day and a plucky heroine who is starting to wonder if there might actually be a beating heart just beneath her boss’s sexy vests.

I loved the banter between these two and how long it lasted. I usually see it fade out by about a quarter of the way into a book, which is never enough for me. This book is much longer than I typically like to read, just because I will lose interest by the end. And while I didn’t really lose interest here, I feel like some things seemed repetitive in the middle, and I could have done without the epilogue. But otherwise, this book was everything, and exactly what I needed to get me out of this reading funk I’ve been in.
I adored the characters and the humor in this book. It is the perfect book to grab if life is getting you down, and you want a pick-me-up. Highly recommended.
This is one of the best enemies to lovers stories that I have read. The emotions that run through you while reading it are incredible. I loved both of the main characters, but Ally’s story was incredible. I believe I now have a new favorite Lucy Score book.
Dominic is a grumpy grump face and Ally is a go getter. When they meet its insta hate. He gets her fired from her pizza job and his mother hires her. Ally is always arguing and sarcastic with him. He can’t seem to understand why he likes her arguing with him. He even adopted a dog. They both start to catch feeling for each other. Can Dom get passed himself to let her in? Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended. Excellent book

What’s not to love about this book??? Everything about this book is awesome, amazing, wonderful !! Sexy, grumpy, heart of gold hero. Strong willed, sassy, hard working hero. Great supporting characters. This book is everything you need and didn’t know you wanted!! Read it!!
The premise of By a Thread by Lucy Score drew me in so much that I actually took the time to read this one. As a lover of audiobooks that’s extremely rare for me, but I can’t resist a good enemies to lovers work place troupe.
This book was a fun, entertaining read. The banter between Dom and Ally was priceless! They have an electric connection from the start that kept me captivated. I knew Dom was in trouble from the moment Ally had no hesitation in putting him in his place. He gets Ally fired from one of the many jobs she needs to stay afloat after a back and forth in front of his mother and Ally’s manager. Dom’s mother takes this situation and his apology into her own hands by offering her a position at the company they both work at. Dom and Ally try their best to avoid each other, but they manage to get under each other skin and it gets tougher to pretend they aren’t attracted and infatuated with each other.
Dom is an undercover sweetheart who feels the need to come off as cold to not be compared to his scum bag of a father. He is adamant that he will not have a work place romance and be like the person he has come to hate so much for hurting him and his mother. He is at Label to save his families reputation, he is still learning the culture and how to be successful in his current positon. Employees are scared of him and he isn’t able to express himself the way he would like to until he meets Ally.
Ally’s isn’t scared of Dom and helps change the team’s perspective on what Dom is really like. She is a hard worker who is willing to do whatever it takes to protect and take care of her father. They are complete opposites, but Ally makes Dom feel alive again and together they feel like home for one another.
I loved that both of them were in their 30’s and 40’s proving that love and happily ever after can happen at any stage in life.
Grumpy Grump Face meets Girl
I 110% recommend this book! If I could give it 10 stars I would. Lucy Score never disappoints. I loved these characters and their story so much…all the FEELS!!! First chapter and I was already laughing out loud. I was completely sucked in and lost track of time and the world around me. I stayed up until 4 something in the morning just so I could finish it. It was that good and so worth the book hangover.
Dom is grumpy, hot, conflicted, but has a good heart and doesn’t like the world to know. Ally is sweet, sassy, funny, hard working and just trying to survive what life has given her…hanging By a Thread. When they meet, sparks fly and then the slow burn starts. And let me tell you (fans myself) that Dom sure knows how to turn a girl on . I LOVE how Lucy can take the reader into Dom & Ally’s world, make you feel what they feel, love what they love. This is a must read, and I can’t wait to re-read it again soon.
I really enjoyed reading By a Thread. Dominic’s soft, squishy center is very lovable and generous. Ally’s a strong, out-going and kind woman who is the perfect match for Dominic. Often a story with a slow burn can make a reader frustrated, but not with this story. There are a lot of interesting side characters and side stories going on that you get too caught up to really notice how much of the book has been read without any steamy scenes. There’s plenty of those by the way.
The bantering back and forth between Dominic and Ally is truly amazing. Lucy Score has done an amazing job with the dialogue in this story.
There are a few subjects in this story that are painful but written into the story very well. A rescue dog named Brownie also plays a loving part in this story.
Overall a really good story with main characters and side characters that I really loved.
Couldn’t wait to see where these two ended up! Lucy Score wrote a fantastic, quick moving, love/hate romance that I couldn’t put down. Add in all of the side characters and you have a winner. Can’t say enough great things about this story. You must discover them all for yourself. Don’t wait, read this now!
Lucy Score does it again! If you’re looking to laugh and take a break from reality, you want this enemies to lovers workplace romance. I couldn’t put it down!
I stumbled across Lucy Score on Kindle unlimited. I had never read any of her books before, but as soon as I read the first one I was hooked and I proceeded to read all of her books in a marathon session over about a week. I have to say that I think this latest book, By a Thread, is absolutely the best yet. I had a reminder set on my calendar to download it on the day that it came out. I stayed up until 3am
so that I could finish it. I love the characters and the romance in the book. It’s also very funny and warm. You can’t go wrong with a Lucy Score book and this one is the best.
I was craving a steamy enemies-to-lovers and this one was delicious!
I love a lot of authors, but Lucy Score is my favorite romcom author. I haven’t read a story by her that I didn’t love. I especially love when she writes characters that are close to my age, because she does it so well!
“We’re past walking away, Ally.”
By a Thread: A Grumpy Boss Romantic Comedy by Lucy Score
Most times, when I read a new book by Lucy Score, that couple is my new favorite. But Jake and Marley from Rock Bottom Girl have been my favorites for a long time and now they have competition. Dominic and Ally are seriously so very good together. All that heat. All that tension. All that emotion.
And hey, if that isn’t your cup of tea, Drunk Dom will have you laughing and swooning simultaneously. Seriously. All drunk guys should be like Drunk Dom.
Look, if you like romcoms, this is for you.
If you like Lucy Score, this is for you.
Mr. Grumpy Grump Face melted my panties off and my heart!
After Dominic Russo’s father, uses his possion and power to shame the family, he is ousted out and Dominic is thrown into his family’s fashion magazine business.
His biggest concern is that everyone will assume he is just like his father and that is something he could never stomach.
He also, has a soft and generous side to him.
Ally Morales, has had to take the world on her shoulders.
After her father develops dementia and is placed in a state nursing home, that is horrible, she moves back home to take care of him.
She has placed him in the best facility, but it costs a lot.
Her plan is to sell the family home but, it needs a lot of work and it’s going to cost quite a bit to fix it up before it can be sold.
She’s not worried about hard work. She’s working several jobs and she’s not one to ask for help.
When Dominic, goes to have lunch with his mom, he gets into a tangle with Ally and has her fired.
Dominic’s mom decides to hire Ally practically on the spot.
Now Dominic and Admin Ally, work together and the words and fireworks are exploding.
Dominic, wasn’t looking for her, but he still found her.
Ally, however, is hanging on by a thread.
This is really one of my favorite stand alone books by this amazing author. Love, love, love it!
I really love a good rom com especially when the grumpy man is told off by a sassy woman!
Holy crap on a cracker was this book entertaining! It made me laugh alot! There was so much witty banter that made the story so incredibly enjoyable you really don’t want it to end!
Dominic is the grumpy man, he thinks alot of his employees hate him. When he causes Ally to lose a job needless to say the adventure or rather fighting moments of sass, really made me smile!!
Ally was a force unto her own! She was struggling to make ends meet but thankfully lands a job of a lifetime or is it!???It remains to be seen how Dominic and Ally get along, the words they utter are so entertaining you cant help but giggle! Is it a sign that there is attraction on both sides???
Beware for a fantastic storyline, fun characters, steamy and sad moments that wrap this book up in a romantic comedy bow!!!
Absolutely brilliant!!! I definitely need to read more of this authors work! Such great writing! Thank you for making my days better with such a fun story!
Loved this workplace romance. Perfect distraction read for quarantine!
~~TOP 10 RECOMMENDED~~
What do you get when you have a over stressed man in a new position at work, a waitress bickering and hating each other? You get a fantastic, funny and so over the genius story By A Thread by Lucy Score. This is the first I have read by her and man it will not be the last. We have Ally Morales, a woman who well has not had an easy life but when you have sour lemons you try your hardest to make lemonade which is what she does. She is not your usual damsel in distress but a fighter all the way something Dominic Russo didn’t expect. Have to say what really got me into this book was the bickering between these two Lucy Score really outdid herself between them. They say love comes in unexpected ways and boy does Lucy Score prove that between them. Loved that Dom is actually a protector at heart, always giving never really asking just giving all he can even his heart without him knowing. Ally is a feisty one all the way challenging Dom and well making him be the man he really is deep down. This is more than just a grumpy boss story but one about a woman making the boss see he can be so much more with a little bit of love and never giving up. This book had it all for me which is why Lucy Score is definitely an author to look out for more of her talented imagination. Loved it.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
I loved loved loved this book! The witty banter between Dom and Ally had me laughing out loud. The slow burn was scorching! There was just enough drama to keep you constantly turning pages! I didn’t even read the blog before I started this book because I’m a huge Lucy Score fan and I was not disappointed!
This book has so much to offer that it’s hard to gather my thoughts and do justice to the story. I looked forward to it for weeks. I had it marked on my calendar. It did not disappoint. I was hooked from the first chapter. It’s made its way not only onto my list as a favorite enemies to lovers book, but just favorite books. The witty banter is top notch. A drunk Dominic is worth the price of admission on his own. Apology emails- oh my! I love Dom being a secret giver. The sneaky gifts are great. Dominic and Ally had a very unique meet cute. The fighting was just the right amount. There’s a delicate balance with the hate/love line. Amazing secondary characters as always. She brought us complex character development and storylines, but it’s also hilarious. Ally’s relationship with her dad is just as important to the story as the two main characters. I almost forgot to the steam level. Technically this is a slow burn, but there’s plenty of non-action action. Dom and Ally are hawt. Yes, it’s a long one, but it doesn’t feel like it. In fact I would have been happy with even more pages. That’s a testament of a good book when you don’t want it to end. It’s one that you can read in KU and feel the need to buy it. I absolutely can’t wait for the audio version to release. A great lighthearted book just when everyone needed it.
