This is Book 1 of the Maple Run Series. I loved Dwight and Nina’s story. They have such different backgrounds, he from a loving family, she was raised in a group home for orphans. He is struggling financially, she has a hefty investment account. Yet they both desire the same things and it was sweet to watch them navigate the road that brought them together.
This is a modern take on mail order weddings. Nina was ready to get married, so she puts out an ad for a husband and offers a dowery. (Unlike previous pioneer brides, this one involved background checks and meetings first). Dwight wants to save his parent’s legacy – their family restaurant. He contacts Nina, then requests a trial period to see if their relationship will work out. But what happens when love enters the picture – how can reassure that the money is no longer the driving force?
This is a sweet, sweet story about knowing when to trust God and when to take steps of faith forward. This is also a story about what family looks like. I liked the fact that community was emphasized. A few unexpected twists kept the plot moving. The only thing I wished the story included was a recipe for a maple chicken – this book made me hungry!
I definitely was intrigued by the characters, and I plan on reading the rest of the series. Because I am a member of Toni Shiloh’s book troop, I was allowed the opportunity to be gifted a free e-book. I picked this one because it is first in a series, and because I was intrigued on how she could write a book that starts out with a want ad. She did a great job of making the plot believable and enjoyable. This review was not a part of the book gift, but I wanted to review it, so that more readers will pick up this book. All opinions are my own!
Wow, what a wonderful start to the Maple Run series by Toni Shiloh! Readers will fall in love with the characters from the town of Maple Run. I know I sure did! With handsome, swoony Dwight who is trying to save his family’s restaurant, his irresistible and confident best friend Shorty, determined Nina who is willing to do whatever is necessary to find a good husband and start a family, Nina’s new friend Nikki, and a cast of other supporting characters, there is something for everyone in this story! Toni Shiloh’s descriptions of Maple Run and the people who lived there made me want to pack up and move to the fictional town of Maple Run myself! I can’t wait to read more of this series, and I am especially looking forward to Shorty and Nikki’s story later in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Nina Warrenton choses an interesting way to find a husband: she places a newspaper ad. Dwight Williams answers the ad because his family’s restaurant is failing and his family’s home is at stake. They both pray, seeking God’s approval for what they are doing, but they both grapple with the “rightness” of what they’re doing. Both believe that marriage is for life, but they question whether their motives and methods are right. A romance with an unusual twist. I liked it.
I have loved all of Toni Shiloh’s books and this one was no different. I was a little worried because of the concept but I had nothing to worry about. This is the second Toni Shiloh book that I have read and I ended up really enjoying it. I have to admit I read things out of order, so I ended up reading the 4th book, Risking Love first. Buying Love is the first book in Toni Shiloh’s Maple Run series.
I really liked the characters in Buying Love. Nina and Dwight were so likable. Nina was looking for a family and Dwight was trying to save his family’s restaurants. Nina and Dwight were both kind people who were just trying their best.
It was so interesting to read about Nina and her life. She had grown up as an orphan and all she wanted was to find a family. She had everything in the world’s eyes, she was settled and had a good job, but she wanted a home. Nina was strong and I liked how she went to God for guidance. Although it was odd how she went about finding a husband, she still tried to seek God’s counsel. She still had her faults. She needed to learn how to trust Dwight and to not let her fears keep her from seeing the family God has given her.
Dwight was also a nice guy. He was sweet and he just wanted to help his family. I liked how he also went to God for guidance and how he cared for Nina. He didn’t love her at first, but he respected her. I really enjoyed reading about their relationship as it grew and as they fell in love with each other. They balanced each other out. Dwight had to deal with not only his family’s restaurant but also the expectations of his family. I wasn’t sure how to feel about his family at first, but they grew on me.
Buying Love was a great start to the series and leaves you wanting more. I loved the characters and the story grew on me. I would definitely recommend this book! I would also recommend the rest of the books, they just keep on getting better and better. Buying Love is a clean, Christian romance.
Buying Love is a sweet contemporary Christian romance.
Desperate to get married and start a family before she grew too old, orphaned Nina put an add in the newspaper advertising for a husband and stating that she brings money to the arrangement. Dwight decided to meet the mysterious woman behind the add, mostly because he wants to save his family’s restaurant from going bankrupt.
I really enjoyed Buying Love. It was truly a sweet story, and it reminded me very much of a Hallmark movie. One of the key questions of the story is: can they trust that they Are actually falling in love and aren’t just in the relationship because of money or otherwise?
I confess that I read the series out of order in that I read book two before this book, book one. But it didn’t really spoil the story for me because both can be read as standalone romances. I enjoyed both of them very much.
I liked what I learned from this book. The story talked a lot about adoption and what it is to grow up an orphan with no family. It made me want to do what Nina did — mentor a child, and perhaps adopt one day. (Both are things I’ve thought about before but haven’t been in a position to do just yet.) The book also mentioned that the restaurant Dwight’s family owned made a lot of recipes with maple syrup. I want to look some up and try them now! Sounds delicious.
I hope you enjoy this story as I did. (And it’s a good book to read if you’re looking to support black writers.)
I received a complementary copy of this book from the author. All options are my own, and I was not compensated for sharing them.
Toni Shiloh is fantastic. “Buying Love,” her first book in the Maple Run series, was beyond any expectation I could have had. First, there is the concept: A woman who has everything but the family she has always wanted and no idea about developing a relationship in the ‘traditional’ way. Nina puts out an ad seeking a husband and offering to pay for the opportunity. Dwight sees the opportunity and decides to give it a try in hopes of saving his father’s business. Is it possible that the two will get more than they originally bargained for? Perhaps. Believe me, this book is worth the read. And, I cannot wait to read all of Toni Shiloh’s Maple Run series.
Disclaimer: I have read and reviewed this book of my own accord. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved the two main characters and getting to see their relationship develop. It was a very sweet romance that resonated with my heart. I loved Dwight and the way his love grew for Nina and the way he treated her like she was something precious. I loved getting to see Nina grow in the Father’s love and realize the love He had surrounded her with through the people He had placed in her life.
Author Toni Shiloh creates great stories that involve love, trust, friendship and faith. In Buying Love, Nina is ready to get married, only there is a problem. She is not engaged and has no fiancee. She decides to put an ad in the newspaper to possibly find a husband. Lifestyles and different goals in life can cause problems for Nina and her new relationship. What will happen with Nina? Will she find her one true love? Read this story and find out. I enjoy the writing of this author. I will read this story again and again.
Toni is a new author for me and I was not disappointed! Just love her style of writing. Her characters in this book are sweet.
Toni truly writes romantic but inspirational books, she makes sure that God is the center of her stories!
What a good group of characters. A wonderful read. You will like it .
I loved this story. The characters felt real to me.
This was unusual at first but I really enjoyed it. Want to find more by this author.
Enjoyable book to read and very entertaining!
This was a good story. It showed a test of faith. The characters developed their faith through this story.
Loved this book. I think it should be a Hallmark movie, with Coby Bell, who looks like the cover, as Derrick
This was a fun read. With characters that portray moral characteristics.
This is an author that I have really enjoyed, and look forward to her next books!
I just loved this book! It was a very interesting modern day twist on an old-fashioned concept!
I really enjoyed this book. Very inspirational & God led.
