Tristan is one of my biggest clients. He always pays on time, and he always keeps his word. But this time, he’s short on cash. He needs the shipment now, so he offers me collateral. He loans me his slave.Adelina.Now that Pearl and I are so close, I can’t condone this type of exchange. It’s wrong.Inhumane.But she wants me. I can tell. And I definitely want her.*Buttons and Shame is told from Cane’s … definitely want her.
*Buttons and Shame is told from Cane’s point of view, but Crow and Pearl have their own POV’s to develop the overall story**

The ending was hard to get through! Understanding where both Crow and Pearl’s actions we’re coming from.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Cane’s story and immersing in his perspective. Can’t wait to read what’s next in his and Adelina’s story!
Villain or savior?
Cane is not the same man he was just a few years before. His new sister-in-law and her kick ass bravery did that. He is still the same man but he sees a few things differently. When he crossed paths with pretty girl in an airport, makes a play, and gets blown off he tells himself to forget her. Easier said than done.
Adeline and her friend Lizzy went to Greece to celebrate college graduation. But what they got was a nightmare! Kidnapped, sold and imprisoned by an evil sadistic crime boss they are subjected to more horror than they imagined and are then separated.
Cane just wants to make this deal with Tristan and return home. Until he sees Tristan ‘s new plaything.
One woman has the entire deal going sideways and Cane doing something he knows will anger Crow. But he wants what he wants. Adeline sees the deal as moving from one psychopath to another until she spends time with Cane and begins to see he is different than the others.
She can’t run. But she has hope. He can’t keep her no matter how much he wants to. Crow can’t help but Pearl thinks she can.
With the danger never far away, Cane can see how this will end so he keeps his emotions in check. Adeline knows she is little more than a slave but feels like more. She tries to keep her heart out of this deal but knows she is losing the battle.
Pearl does the one thing Crow will hate and may put them all in jeopardy.
Just like the first 3 books in this series, Penelope keeps you on edge and at times breaks your heart. I can’t wait to see how these lovers handle the 31st day!
This book has taken the series into a different direction. Instead of following Pearl and Crow, we are now following Cane (Crow’s brother) and Adelina. Adelina is a woman who was trafficked and used as a substitute for some money until Tristan was able to come up with the rest of the cash.
I do have to say that I like Cane more than I like Crow. He seems softer. More lovable. This book definitely wasn’t as dark as the first three and I think I really like that. I just unfortunately didn’t love it as much as the first three.
There was not a lot of action. No killing. No blood. I really felt like something should have happened in this book. Especially when Pearl goes to visit Tristan without any supervision. That was a missed opportunity to get some action in. All she did was elbow a dude. Boring.
I wanted to give this book a higher rating. I just found it boring at times. There was no fighting. Blah blah blah.
I really can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. I really hope they figure out a way to save Adelina because I want her and Cane to get married and be happy together.
I also really hope the action picks up. Because I like the dark part of these books. I like the violence. There wasn’t any in this one.
When I started reading I couldn’t put it Penelope Sky is magnifysent writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this books.
Another great read by Penelope.
Part 4 of the Buttons series – I strongly recommend reading the first 3 parts before reading this.
Buttons and shame focuses on Cane – we learn a lot of the bad stuff about him in the previous parts, this time we learn that he’s not as mean and nasty as he makes out; he does have a softer side after all.
On his way to do a business deal with Tristan – one of his biggest clients – Cane meets Adelina. Cane is interested but she isn’t and even threatens to scream if he doesn’t leave her alone. The next time he meets her, she’s begging for his help.
Adelina – Tristan’s slave – gets loaned to Cane as part payment until Tristan can raise the rest of the cash needed. When the deal is complete, Cane has to return Adelina.
Pearl isn’t happy to learn that Adelina has met the same fate as she did and wants to help. Cane and Crow can’t see any way of helping Adelina escape Tristan. Pearl can’t sit back and watch Adelina be returned to a man like Tristan. Cane is torn between his business and the new sister that he has found in Pearl.
Can Cane keep a straight business head and return Adelina when the deal is done? Or will he let his heart get in the way? Will Pearl listen to the brothers and leave things or will she take matters into her own hands and try to free Adelina from Tristan?
This whole series is a must read from the very start.
I can’t wait for the next installment in November – not long to wait.
You have no idea how excited I was when I hear Cane Barsetti was getting his story told he was definitely worth the wait. In this book, we get to see that there much more to this bastard bad boy we all love to hate. If you don’t know who Cane is you totally need to check out the Buttons series you won’t regret it. This is a fantastic continuation to the Buttons series. This book will definitely take you on a emotional rollercoaster.
I also loved all the different characters POVs in this story Cane is just like a chameleon we got to see his evolution from vindictive and uncaring to protective and caring during the first three book from the previous Button series. In all its darkness and craziness you learn that Cane has a heart and it’s growing as he fight his feelings for the extremely feisty and emotionally strong women name Adelina. This does end on a cliffhanger but it was expected now I’ll be eagerly awaiting for the next book in the series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no minority compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
The Barsettis are my guilty pleasure. Buttons and Shame book 4 in the Buttons series is the beginning of Cane’s story. It is just as dark (human trafficking) and steamy as the rest of the series so if that’s not your thing, don’t even try. I, on the other hand loved it. In all its darkness and craziness you learn that Cane’s heart is growing by leaps and bounds. Kind of like the Grinch. Without giving too much away, he is falling for Adelina, who was kidnapped into the dark world of human trafficking and serial slavery by a client of his and loaned to him as collateral for a future payment. Again, very dark – you’ve been warned. As Cane is fighting his feelings for the extremely feisty and emotionally strong Adelina (whom he has to give back in 31 days), Pearl is doing everything she can to save Adelina from her terrible fate. By everything…..well you’ll have to read the book. As usual Ms. Sky’s writing is emotional, heart-stopping and witty at times. She brings you into the story from the beginning and doesn’t let go. I was not able to put it down.
