I’m working off my buttons. But I’m also giving them away. The more I fall for Crow, the more I want him to do the things that I want. Dinners, dates, and evenings at the beach.Everything comes at a price, and quickly the hoard of buttons I worked hard to earn are depleted. Will this go back and forth forever? Or will someone run out of their buttons first?
For the most part when I read a trilogy the first book is the best. Not in this case. This is the second book and although I liked the first, this one was much better. I simply couldn’t put it down! The main characters were much more dimensional and their vulnerability showed through which made then seem more human.
4.5
“‘ . ‘ . .”
: adult dark romance, captive romance, forbidden, angst and steamy af
What can I say? I’m obsessed with this world Penelope created and I adore Pearl sm. She is everything I love from a heroine: strong, smart and resilient.
As for Crow, I love him so hard and how attentive and sweet he is to Pearl, but he also annoyed me af. I hate how stubborn he is when it comes to his feelings and I wish he could be braver and face his true feelings for Pearl.
This book was slightly better than book one because they get more intimate and we met their back story, which is good. I also cried more, specially when Pearl was abused by a certain someone (if you know you know), but yet her strength is inspiring. Their sweet moments were everything I wanted to read and I hope we get them back on the next book.
I could not put the book down. I’m so in love with Crow in spite of his ways. I am so happy I came across this series. I can honestly tell you I am looking forward to reading the next book. I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow but I want to start reading the next book immediately. After reading the 1st 2 book I have become a fan of Penelope. Great job and thank you for bringing these characters into my life. Keep on writing girl because I will continue to read your books. I can’t wait to find out what happens once she reaches her destination. I love this series and I can’t wait to read the next one.
This is an excellent series. I love everything this author writes
As the second book in the series, it does a great job of furthering the story line without feeling like it’s being drawn out. This definitely deserves to be its own book in the series. There are still dark themes and anyone who isn’t “into” that kind of thing should probably steer clear. However, I really enjoyed the author’s ability to draw me in. I can’t wait for the third book!
Absolutely love this series!!
When I started reading I couldn’t put it Penelope Sky is magnifysent writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this books.
Another brilliant piece of writing by Penelope Sky.
It grabs you in the beginning, pulls you in and keeps you there till the end.
Focusing more on the main characters – Pearl and Crow and the romance that’s developing between them. The chemistry that these two share is unbelievable, even after everything they have been through.
Loved this book just as much as Buttons and Lace. Can’t help but be pulled into their world and fall in love with the characters…Even Cane is starting to grow on me.
Twists and turns, edge of your seat reading.
Beware, Possible Spoilers Ahead!
Overall Rating:
4/5 Stars. I can’t tell if I liked this one more or the first one. The first one had more action than this one. Which I think does make it better. PS waited until like the last minute for any kind of action and left off with a cliff hanger.
I really enjoyed this book. It had the right amount of steam and just enough pain. I love it when dark romance focuses on just the pain. We like the lovey-dovey parts too!
TW: Abuse, sexual abuse, kidnapping, rape and murder.
Plot Rating:
Buttons & Hate was mostly about Pearl and Crow finding their love together. Even though Crow swears up and down that he doesn’t love her. Their relationship really blossoms in this book. They go from master and slave to two people who can’t stand to be without each other.
I just wish PS gave us more action instead of giving us more reasons to hate Cane. I wanted more fights and more killing. I wish their revenge started earlier. I just really hope the PS executes everything really well in the next book.
Character Rating:
I don’t think I could love Crow more than I do. I feel for him deeply. He’s so scared to love and it hurts my heart. He’s so strong and he doesn’t even realize it. I can’t even begin to believe that he doesn’t think he’s in love with Button. I just can’t wait for the moment he pours his heart out to her.
Button is just getting better. She’s grown to love Crow and will do anything to try and stay with him. That is, until he doesn’t reciprocate her feelings towards him. She learns to protect her heart. And she becomes pretty bad ass. I can’t wait to see what she does to Bones.
Writing Style:
I absolutely love the two perspectives. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t know what was going through both of their heads. PS’s writing is so easy to read and you’ll be so absorbed in that you won’t want to put it down.
OMG this book was just as a addictive or even better than the first book in the series. I was on a emotional rollercoaster the love hate relationship between Crow and Pearl will leave you feeling exhausted there so many strong emotions, that will leave your head spinning but will also have your heart breaking for each of them. But I love the journey they are in it definitely pull on your heart string than you mixed a little bit of intrigue and conflict to the mixed making for a emotional but enjoyable and entertaining read. It does end on a cliffhanger but it’s so worth it. That I’m so eager and can’t wait to see what’s else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC I haven’t been compensated in any way.
OHHHHH I loved it! The story is just getting better and better……So In this second book Pearl and Crow grow closer. He is still in denial and she is falling hard. Cane really screws up and Crow has a hard time forgiving him. As the situation with Bones grows more serious, Cane and Crow come up with a plan to take him out. As Pearl is rejected she withdraws and doesn’t think she will come back from this. Can she find peace? Can she find a way out? You really need to read this book. The characters have such depth. The story and characters have a deep darkness to them. I could not put the book down. The story keeps you captivated page by page. It turns out nothing like what you think will happen and it keeps you guessing and wanting more. Can’t wait for Buttons and Pain……..impatiently waiting. 🙂
Loved this whole series
