I guess you might be able to listen to these books on their own, but I don’t think so – and I’m also thinking you’d be missing a lot of references that make the writing particularly good. So, if you’re just finding this, go back to Spotless.
I’m upping to 5 stars. I think that after I read Butterfly in Amber two years ago I had it as 4 stars because this had such a different “tone” to it than the other books. I was probably ticked at Camilla Monk that it wasn’t as funny. The fact is – even 90% super serious and a lot darker than the others, it’s still a fantastic and engaging read/listen. There is a lot of mystery/action/suspense as well as PLOT TWIST! that I really didn’t see coming.
And I will listen again. And again. And that’s what makes books 5 stars for me.
Also, I *will* to find a way to work the phrase “follicular nirvana” into everyday conversation. You’ve been warned.
Amy McFadden was so creepy for the first 30% of this. That’s a compliment, I swear. I seriously felt like I was confused and coming out of a coma. Again, I promise these are actually accolades of her talent… because sheesh was the first part of this book dark and scary and I was truly panicked with Island. McFadden’s voices continue to be consistent and unique even as the cast exponentially expands – this is absolutely binge-worthy.
I’m off to listen to Apache Strike Force as I (not really patiently) wait for Island Chaptal and The Ancient Aliens’ Treasure. It’s live now in book/ebook – but like I said on Twitter, I feel like I’m “cheating” on Amy McFadden by reading instead of listening. She says we have an open relationship – but I’m gonna stay faithful. In this instance.

Island & March
What happened here? This book was different from the first three books in the series.. We still have the action-packed scenes “violence, heartbreak, dark secrets & sexual frustration” but I miss Island’s wild thoughts . I felt March pain and admire his tenacity,(still wishing for his POV, hehe).
I really love March & Island’s adventure, the way they always find themselves in a bizarre situations. The way March always saves Island and the way Island always foils March’s plan is what got me hooked in this series. Good thing that there’s two more books to read.
Overall I highly recommend this series. Kudos to Camilla Monk
Yesterday, I was crazy happy I received an ARC so I could FINALLY get past the cliffhanger of the last book. Today I am still crazy happy, but I also have a major case of book hangover.. as I assume it’s called when you’re really sad the book is finished. Really really sad. And this does not happen to me very often.
I will not spoil anything, so let me just say this book is – again – freaking awesome. Just like the other books the author takes you on a rollercoaster ride and I felt so many emotions while reading. I love Island and her stubborn tenacity. While she is no gun-wielding badass, she is badass in other ways and really smart. And March…. big sigh.
If you have not started the series yet, do so now! And let’s all hope and pray that maybe, maybe! the author will write another book in this series or some novella, or a Christmas story. I will take anything!! (2017)
It’s been a while since I read this book, and I still can’t find the words for a fitting review.
Butterfly in Amber is somewhat darker than the first three books, and it evoked ALL THE FEELS. All of them.
Don’t get me wrong, there was also the usual fast-paced action, the unique sense of humor, not to mention the bizarre situations the characters manage to get themselves into…
But my heart was breaking for Island. And for March. And… Dries?!
Short review. Mixed feelings this one feels more out there than the first three books. I still enjoyed but I wish it was a little more grounded like the previous books. I felt like romance between Island and March took a backseat and kinda lessen my excitement for the book. There are some good moments between the two I just wish that the book was more balance and let us have a few pages or chapters of March and Island just being a couple. Despite my mixed feeling I can’t wait for the next book in the series which is suppose to be the last.
