It’s true. I’m not what most people would call “pretty” and, well, high school was rough. Fast forward ten years and life is good… league.
But then he kisses me. And we totally forget the room, the crowd, everything.
Then he tells everyone we’ve been dating for months.
Soon everything starts to feel too real, from adorable fights over “necessary” tools to fix my broken porch to surviving a free-for-all dinner with his six siblings to picking up where our last kiss left off.
But there’s something he’s not telling me about why he’s really hanging around, and I’m pretty sure it has to do with my mob-connected brothers.
Because this is not a make-over story, and Cinderella is only a fairy tale…

This book was hilarious and sweet. Gina and Ford made a good couple and I loved some of the awkward moment’s they had and the chemistry was hot. Avery Flynn is a new author to me and I enjoyed reading this book.
I really enjoyed this book! Both of the main characters are definitely people you root for and I couldn’t wait to see how they reach their HEA. Flynn does such a great job crafting a page-turner filled with witty repartee, sexy times, characters you love, and emotional ups and downs. It’s a recommend from me!
Break the barbie girl mold and be yourself.
Butterface was so entertaining! An extremely fun read that was light, sexy and sweet with really likable characters. I absolutely enjoyed this!
This story triggered allot of old memories of my teenager years and I truly wished Gina had her epiphany earlier about excepting herself but some of so called ugly girls need someone to strike it open. I’m glad Ford could do that for her and quite honestly for himself. Cause though he knows what’s right he needs to do a whole lot more to make this beautiful woman see herself how he does.
I adore this book! Author Avery Flynn gives us real life situations with 2 real life people. Ford is our hot cop who no one can believe he has a thing for Gina who is not most beautiful girl out there. She has a high nose and off yes come from a family who has been rumored to to be on the opposite side of the law. While this book had some in my parts and lots of heat …there where do many times I could just relate to Gina on so many levels. This author was able to write such a great story that showed Gina pain and I have to say some of the jerks… Yep some of them really do love out there in the real world. I hope we get books about all the Hartigans clan and yep the Lucas too. Ms. Flynn please get your “write on” … Interface was a 5 star read. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I knew from the sneak peaks that I will fell in love with Ford and Grace. Loved that heroine wasn’t bombshell but regular woman. Couldn’t put the book away. Sweet and funny. Well paced plot. I hope there will be more books with Hartigans but also with Lucas.
Butterface is book one in the brand new series, The Hartigans, by Avery Flynn. I’ve been so excited about this book and it completely did not let me down. It is fun, sweet, and sexy and the characters stole my heart. I hadn’t expected that little tie in to The Charmer of The Harbor City series so that made my day.
Ford Hartigan is a Police Detective for the Waterbury Police Department. Ford is a by the rules man. It’s how he lives. Except that Ford comes from a huge family of firefighters. So he is the black sheep of his family. Ford is at a wedding that has gotten out of hand. Instead of showing video of the attendees of the reception, they turn it into a kiss cam. When it zeroes in on Ford, he just happens to be standing next to the wedding planner. When they give in and kiss, they forget everything except each other, and their worlds are forever changed.
Gina Luca has suffered from the cruelty of her peers her entire life. She inherited the famous Luca schnoz but she has come to accept her looks and considers herself undateable. She has started a successful wedding planner business and she loves it. She inherited her grandfather’s old Victorian house and she is in the middle of renovating it. She has her two best friends and a good life. She doesn’t need a man in it. But when Ford kisses her, it makes her reconsider that decision because everything in her wakes up and takes notice. He is hot and so out of her league.
“She wasn’t waiting for Prince Charming, and no fairy godmother was going to give her a makeover. She was who she was, and that was Miss Right Now and Not Miss Forever. She’d better remember that, or there was nothing but trouble ahead for her.”
Gina’s brothers are well known for living on the wrong side of the law. Plus, her family has ties to the Esposito crime family so fantasizing about a sexy cop was completely out of the question. But when he shows up claiming that she needs protection, and offering to help her with her house, how can she refuse? It doesn’t take long, though, for feelings to develop. And that chemistry they felt when they first kissed is sizzling hot enough that it’s a wonder the roof was still in tact.
Ford believes in rules, but his feelings for Gina are getting harder and harder to ignore. Except that he might not have been completely honest with her regarding his reasons for hanging around. And if she finds out, he’s pretty sure she won’t forgive him.
“The woman just did things to him. She shook things up. And he liked it. A lot. Probably too much. He should probably be worried about that. He wasn’t.”
I think you get the picture here. Hot cop. Woman who feels herself to be undesirable. Chemistry through the roof. And secrets. Throw it all together with two crazy families in the background and you’ve got a great story. Gina really did break my heart with her history of how she had been treated. And Ford was so clueless as to how to handle his feelings. But he definitely didn’t lack in knowing how to steam up the pages. These two were hot together. This was such a fun book but at the same time, such a meaningful book. Gina was amazing and strong and I want to be her someday. I can’t wait for the next book in this series, Muffin Top, which will be Lucie and Frankie’s story.
How many times have we read a book where the ugly duckling heroine takes off her glasses/gets a haircut/loses weight and wow, suddenly the guy realizes she’s beautiful?
This isn’t that book.
And I loved every single word of it.
This is a great start to a new series by Avery Flynn. I loved Gina and Ford. A great read and I can’t wait to read more about the Hartigans!
Witty, sexy, and smart, you seriously cannot go wrong with a book by Avery Flynn. This is the perfect summer read! I dare you not to get through it in one sitting…
I liked this book alot – characters were different with lots of depth
I wasn’t sure about this book when I read how the heroine got her nickname…”She’s okay, but…her…face.” But the characters really grew on me and I was glad I read it.
I’d been curious about this book for a long time and when I discovered my (temporary, half-price) Audible membership included it, I decided to check it out. It was unfortunately a bit dull for my tastes, and lacking in originality, mostly. Though it does have a twist which translates into a good message, so I respect that. And it had better writing than a lot of this genre tends to. I might check out other works for this author, but this one didn’t really do it for me.
I wouldn’t say it was bad by any means though … just not exciting.
3 stars.
Note:
I listened to the audiobook—an excellent performance from both narrators.
Loved this sweet story.
A fine story but the graphic sex scenes were way to much.
“Butterface” was such a delightful novel. The dynamic main characters, Gina and Ford, gushed with chemistry. Additionally, the entertaining plot was filled with romance, hilarity galore, and lust. The author’s enchanting style of writing by using imagery and other vivid descriptions helped to create an upbeat tone. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the narrative.
Loved your book! Very original!
Butterface was a fun story about a not that attractive wedding planner and a hot but gruff cop. It’s off too a good start with the exception of the pranking detectives, which was just annoying.
Gina was the highlight of the book honestly and it felt like the author had a bigger problem with her looks than almost anyone. She was fun and funny, bubbly and once she felt comfortable and relaxed, I really liked Gina. Ford wasn’t too bad either, a by the rules guy who bucked family tradition of firefighting and went into police work. They weren’t an obvious match the Kiss Cam meet-cute was definitely cute.
The story was fun and predictable and the Hartigan and Luca families were fun additions to break up the romance and let the couples grow and fall.
I’m curious enough to check out the next book in the series.
Avery Flynn is the Queen of the Rom Com. She never disappoints .
