Full of laughs and second chance love
This story was fun to read. It was full of many laughs, relatable characters, a plausible, interesting storyline and romance. The family dynamics and interactions alone will keep you entertained. There was also plenty of drama and witty banter throughout the story as well as a buildup of suspense that keeps you turning the page.
Jaxson Stravos, an Air Force Firefighter, was a single dad to a pre-teen daughter and seriously overprotective. He made lists on top of lists concerning her schedule, eating habits and emergency contacts and trusted very few with Elle’s care. With his normal babysitter unavailable, she sends her niece Scarlett; who is down on her luck and temporarily staying with her. Scarlett also has a young son, Rusty; who will just melt your heart. He is so adorable! Elle and Rusty hit it off immediately and become fast friends. Too bad the same cannot be said for the parents. When a threat from Scarlett’s past appears Jax realizes how invested his heart truly is will do whatever he must to keep them safe.
*I received an ARC of this book and am providing my honest review.
It is really hard being a single parent and it is especially hard when your ex is a deadbeat Dad who owes you money and wants nothing to do with your child. Scarlet Adison is living this nightmare, but she is a strong and positive woman who is determined to show her son nothing but love and happiness. Her son asks about his father all of the time, and it breaks her heart to see him so sad. Maybe someday she will meet a kind and understanding man who will love both of them. She moves in with her Aunt Mauve when she is evicted from her apartment and is asked to help take care of a young girl in the neighborhood while her Dad is at work. How hard could it be to care for another child? Scarlet is a great mother and it will do her son a world of good to be around other children.
Jaxson Stravos is a Senior Firefighter in the Air Force and the single father of a 10 year old daughter, who has only ever been taken care of by his mother and Scarlet’s Aunt Mauve, who is their nanny. He is an overprotective Dad who constantly worries that something bad will happen to his daughter, and his mother is always telling him to relax and be less controlling. He has no time for dating and is content serving his country and raising his daughter. When Mauve told him she would be sending her niece over to care for his daughter, he never expected to have such an immediate attraction to the confident and beautiful young mother.
Will Scarlet and her son find the love they deserve with Jax and his daughter or will something from her past put them all in danger?
Can Jax protect Scarlet and their children and keep them safe so they can start a new life together as a family?
I love reading books about single parents finding love again because they are uplifting, hopeful and full of romance. Jax and Scarlet always put their children first and the idea of falling in love was an unreachable dream. That is what makes this book so special: Jax and Scarlet took a chance on love and their dreams came true. I fell in love with this special couple and I am I looking forward to the next book in the series, “Burning Lies.”
