Burning Night: Where the ashes of the past awaken the future
Written by Nikki Broadwell
4 out of 5 stars
This is the first book I’ve read by Nikki Broadwell and I’ve heard it’s very different than her typical style of writing. I’m curious to read more of Nikki Broadwell’s work to see how diverse her writing style really is. It’s definitely a sign or a great writer if they can stray from their norm and still knock out a 4- 5 star reads.
While there is romance in this novel, I really enjoyed it as the story of a woman that is finding her self esteem and overcoming obstacles after escaping an abusive relationship. Collie is a character that you root for from the beginning to the end and the course of the story is truly gripping. I would recommend this entertaining even relatable 4 star read!

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It was fast paced and a very original story about a woman named Collie. She is in an abusive relationship and desperately needs to get away from her husband. A friend helps her out but when things go astray she is forced to find an alternative way of making some quick money. She decides to dance and collect enough money to leave but that’s when she meets a man named Tim and he might just be her salvation.
I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more by this author. I would recommend this to a friend.

I give Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future by Nikki Broadwell, 5 stars.
Collie has finally had enough of her abusive husband so she flees. But at 40 years old, she doesn’t know exactly what to do or where to go. She decides to go on a journey to find who she really is. When her money is gone, she needs to find employment. There is only one thing she knows how to do — exotic dancing. But at her age? Can she survive? Will she find peace in her soul again?
This was an interesting book. Starting over from what you have known for so long is hard, and Collie does struggle at times. This book seems like it could be a biography, it is written so realistically. Collie is a great main character — flawed, but lovable too. There are many surprises you will not see coming. Collie has to endure so much. It also shows the stigma about exotic dancing. I would suggest adults only to read this since there are some events that could be disturbing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future by Nikki Broadwell is a book that took me by surprise and became a story I wasn’t expecting.
The book is highly detailed and very emotional right from the work go. The author takes you on a journey, one that you might not expect, and keeps you fascinated.
The characters were so interesting to read about. You could feel the depth to them and you could believe everything they were going through and experiencing.
This book is well written, captivating and one I definitely think you should read.

This is my first time reading this author, it won’t be my last either !! I really do enjoy stories with a strong female character(s)! This story is about self discovery, determination, and new beginnings. Collie is a lot stronger than she even knows!!She has a vulnerability about her,but yet has an immense amount of determination and strength … she refuses to give up!She is really quite relatable in many aspects,I like characters I can relate to!
Collie embarks on a new journey of life and love, after fleeing an abusive relationship. She is determined to start over. She knows she has to take better care of herself. I’m not gonna spoil it, but this a must read!! Go out and read this book ASAP… you will not regret it in the least bit !! I can’t wait to see what Nikki has in store for us next!
I have read some of Nikki Broadwell’s work before but this was a totally different type of novel than I had expected to find from her. This was much more of an all the feels type novel. I found myself really feeling the gambit of emotions as Collie, our MC, felt them. I wanted to cry a lot more than I had expected, and I had a lot of moments where I just had to stop and process the feelings I was having before I could go on with the book.
This is a very detailed and multi-layered novel. It is extremely hard to review the book without giving away too much of the details that will spoil the goodies for you and not sound repetitive of the synopsis. For the best parts I will say you are going to have to take my word for it, you must read this book. You won’t be disappointed that you did. The journey that Collie takes to find herself is one that you don’t want to miss out on. I know I learned a thing or two from her myself.
Burning Night is novel by Nikki Broadwell. This is my first novel by this author.
Escaping an abusive relationship, Collie leaves with the help of her friend Mary who gets her a truck and money. But when her money is stolen, she is forced to return to exotic dancing. Though she is skeptical of it working because of her age.
Her goal is to attend Burning Night which is located in a small town in Alaska. She also meets younger man named Tim. Will she find happily ever after or will it just be another heartbreak?
I have been in a reading slump lately and was apprehensive about reading anything. The summary caught my attention and I thought I would give it a try. I’m glad I did. Collie was strong and vulnerable and it was great to read her growth and how she overcame obstacles. I was so happy when I was reading her leaving her abusive husband and trying to regain her self confidence that had been lowered over the years.
I don’t want to give too much away. With a strong female lead, a little romance and a theme of overcoming obstacles and reaching your goals, this is novel that can be relatable to anyone who reads it.
This story maybe short but it leaves you on the edge and doesn’t let go. I really enjoyed this novel and will read more by this author.

Dreams can mean so many things. Everyone interrupts things differently. Collie has had a hard life. Being with the worse kind of partner damaged more than her mental and emotional state. She had no self-esteem, no will to move and no hope. There are so many women and men faced with this everyday. I was proud and scared for Collie’s journey. There would be so many obstacles and setbacks. I liked that she didn’t give up and kept pushing. I liked that the author gave you a look into another culture. I don’t know anything about Native American culture and this story made me interesting in knowing if the customs were true. The characters were all well written. You could feel their struggles and the insecurities.
Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future by Nikki Broadwell was a great 5 star read. This is my first read from Nikki and I really enjoyed it, she pulls you right in with her writing and you won’t want to stop until your done.
My interest in life was as shallow as the dish I kept under the potted plant that had recently died.
Collie is in an abusive relationship and is dealing with depression on top of it. She has grown distant from her husband and is questioning everything about her life. Where did everything go wrong? Should she stay? Should she go?
There is a lot of emotion in this read, I was all over the place. Collie decides to go on a journey for a fresh start. She is a very strong woman that grew stronger as the story progressed. There is a bit of mystery along with twist and turns. The secondary characters added a great element to the story, some I liked some not so much. You can’t help but feel like your right there with Collie on her journey, I was exhausted when I finished. The ending was great and I loved the epilogue. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future by Nikki Broadwell was a fast moving, wicketly original read that had me so hooked that I had this read in one sitting, and may have… may have caused me to be sort of late for work….
Not my first read by this author so I knew I was in for something different. Right out of the gate this book captured me and kept me on edge. There wasn’t any time to think, you could feel our MC’s desperation and the need to get as far away as she could. That level of emotional writing is a talent in it’s own, and one that makes this story shine.
There is so much I can say, pick apart and simply gush about. But this is also the type of story that if I give you one hint, one clue, one layer, then it will ruin the allure and may spoil the complex fast moving plot. No worries I’m not going to completely leave you in the dark. I will tell you that this story is sharp, richly detailed, intense, emotional and good. It’s so good that finding the right words to convince you, will take the whole dictionary just to convey what I’m feeling. Book hangover isn’t the word right now.
So please, please, take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you need this book in your life. So much so that you don’t even know how much. This read will capture you, it will hold you and it will make you question reality.
Happy Reading

Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future By Nikki Broadwell. This story had me on what can only be described as an emotional roller coaster ride. This author writes in a way that readers feel every single emotion written into this story soul deep. I’m a huge fan of stories about people who have pasts they have survived from. Collie is one of my favorite characters I’ve gotten to read about, life kicks her down but she just keeps getting back up again. There’s a bit of mystery in this story that kept me on the edge of my seat and turning pages faster. You go on a journey with Collie and it’s an incredible one. I love the writing style and the characters are complex and relatable. It’s paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it to everyone.
Burning Night by Nikki Broadwell is a story of fiction but in reality could very well be truth on some levels. This is a great story and I would recommend reading it. The characters are fully developed and can easily be a friend, neighbor, or yourself on some level. This story is about an abusive relationship. If you are like me, I found it difficult at times due to the fact it reminded me so much of what has been within my social/family circle. One thing I really enjoyed with Nikki Broadwell is that she did not let the abuse ruin Collie’s life. She decided to make Collie a force to be dealt with and not a victim in the corner. Collie is on journey of self-discovery. She will have to decide how to proceed with her life. This story does have its ups and downs, twists and turns, and full of emotions. You will have to read if Collie can get past her demons. I cannot wait to read more books from Nikki Broadwell.
Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future by Nikki Broadwell. This is a contemporary romance with a little mystical powers thrown in. Its the story of Columbine ( Collie) who flees her abusive husband after years of unhappiness and abuse. Never able to have children she flees her very unhappy life. Her best friend Mary helps her leave by giving her a trailer and truck so she sets off landing in a small town on the way to Alaska. When her money is stolen she is forced to work in the only way she knows how, exotic dancing. She does quite well being 40 and makes all of her money back in a short time. She also meets a good looking, hunk of a man named Tim who she finally opens up to. During this time she has memories resurface that she never knew and she doesn’t know how to deal with them. Trying to make it to Alaska for the “Burning Night” celebration she has to decide if she can trust Tim and if she can settle down. Collie has to decide if her dreams are worth losing everything for or if she can actually find other dreams. This is a great book, quick read with lots of romance and a little mystery.
Burning Night was a unique story, I really enjoyed a lot of the moments you can’t explain, the events people won’t believe. There were mystical forces at play, more along the lines of spiritual happenings. That part was crazy interesting. I felt like Collie had courage to leave her husband and push forward on this adventure. I did have a bit of trouble connecting with the characters and they all had actions I didn’t totally agree with or understand. Not sure if that is just more realistic, but even Collie, I wanted to shake sometimes. She’s been through a lot in her life, though. All in all, it was an interesting story.
Wow! What an excellent book! This author continues to enthrall and fascinate me with her characters and storylines. I never knew what to expect with this book and found myself riding a rollercoaster of emotion. It was another book I simply couldn’t put down. Definitely recommend – you simply must read this book!

4 out of 5 stars
First, What a beautiful cover! This contemporary novel was both profound and heart breaking. Collie is running from an abusive relationship. It was interesting watching her grow into her power and into her womanhood throughout this book. I loved the development that this book brought to her character. She is a very complex character, yet at her core, she is simple, heartfelt and passionate. Collie is making her way to a festival called Burning Night, which she believes is an answer to all of her prayers.
This book is emotionally charged. I had, at times, a very difficult time getting through portions of the book without wanting to break down and cry. Collie is strong. So very, very strong. Ms Broadwell has written an amazing character with vivid details. I HIGHLY recommend this book, but want to let you know that this will seriously pull at your heart strings.

This is a great story! The writing is so smooth and it dragged me into the story. I had concern for Callie as well as I enjoyed her adventure into the wilderness. These are real places so I could easily identified with them and it made her more of a relatable character.
The characters are full of flavor and life. I enjoyed seeing/meeting them and often wondered how they were going to fare by the stories end. The main character is a strong but undecided in her future. She has many irons in the fire. I enjoyed her spiritual adventure as well as her physical journey. The things she did and saw was simply amazing! Kudos to her for taking control!
This is my second book by this author. I enjoy her writing style. She engages me fairly quickly. Her characters have life and style. They cause me to *feel* for them and care about what happens to them. This is a simply wonderful story that I would recommend to anyone.
Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future by Nikki Broadwell is a story of a woman’s journey after fleeing a toxic relationship, with everything thrown into the mix. High emotion, struggle, uncertainty, chaos, anxiety, torment. But there was also so many wonderful feelings that Collie discovered. She was ready to quit but dragged herself up every day to face the unknown, the scary and mysterious.
Burning Night: where the ashes of the past awaken the future was my first story by Nikki Broadwell. It was an emotional challenge, as it made me think and ponder and just try to imagine how she got through it all. She had an inner strength that was unveiled once she gpt to spread her wings, and was free from everything that was bad for her. Life is always ready to shake our very foundation with the unexpected, but it is how we rise after being kicked down that is the most incredible story to read. Collie rose above all that tried to drag her down and her resilience and tenacity was admired and applauded. 4 stars.

As soon as I started reading this book I was captivated and couldn’t put it down. I felt as though I was going right along the journey with Collie, experiencing all the emotions she went through while on her journey. Collie found the strength to leave an abusive marriage and is trying to get to the burning night festival for her fresh start. There were some twists and turns and a bit of mystery in this very detailed story. This is the first book I have read by this author and I’m glad I decided to dive in because I really enjoyed every minute of this book. I recommend this emotionally charged and unpredictable story.
