One hundred years ago, a sheriff’s posse killed dark warlock Rhyfel Gremory, but his witch-disciples escaped, and their magic made them nearly immortal. To keep their power, each year one of the witch-disciples kills a descendant of one of the men in the posse, a twelve-year cycle that has cost dozens of lives, including that of Seth Tanner’s brother, Jesse.Seth uncovers a cycle of ritual murders … ritual murders that feed the witch-disciples’ power, and he saves Evan Malone, one of the warlock’s potential victims. Neither Seth nor Evan expected to fall in love, but when the dust settles, they find themselves on the run and on the road together, heading toward Pittsburgh, on the trail of the next killer.
Seth wonders whether Evan will come to regret his choice to stay together, now that he’s living the reality of Seth’s nomadic life and the risks that come with it. He wants Evan to stay, but he’s afraid that Evan would be better off without him, living a normal life. Evan’s whole world has been upended, but there’s one thing he’s sure of, his love for Seth. Evan worries that he’s a liability, not yet able to hold his own in Seth’s rough-and-tumble world, but determined to do whatever necessary to have Seth’s back. On the way to face the next warlock, supernatural threats abound, forcing them to learn to fight as a team.
Fate and danger threw them together. But once the adrenaline fades, will love last?

Seth and Evan have faced a lot together, and it’s been quite the life-style change for Evan. Even the strongest relationships have their bumps in the road, and that’s something both Seth and Evan will have to face and work through. Unlike most other relationships, Seth and Evan will have to figure out their problems while facing off with some seriously bad mo-fos who are targeting them. I liked the continuation of the worldbuilding and the introduction to other hunters.
This story focuses on the developing romantic relationship between Seth and Evan while they also learn to hunt monsters together.
The developing connection between Seth and Evan leaves the reader emotionally invested in the outcome of their interactions. The monster fights are getting a bit more interesting, and the narration is wonderful.
If you liked the first book, this one is a must read/listen.
Easy and fast to read. A great next book in this series.
I love this series! Seth and Evan are hunting more witch disciples and also fighting things from their past. There are interesting new characters to meet and these books are always packed with action, romance and intrigue! The narration by Kale Williams is also excellent!
Watch out for…
Seth and Evan are my M/M fantasy of Supernatural and Grimm come to life. I also think it could be fun to visit some of those places if I could be brave enough. We pick up from the end of Witchbane. They’re trying to recover and move forward in their relationship, which has its ups and downs. Seth worried about how he can protect Evan goes too far in the other direction, I think, and Evan has to confront his insecurities and the myriad changes in his life. Throughout it all we get to follow along as they battle nasties of all types, which I highly enjoyed.
I adored their silly wand humor and approve of Evan’s beer preferences. I also vote yes for Seth’s creative thoughts about bubble wrap. I really like Toby’s sense of humor and am glad Seth has him and Milo as friends. I think they give him perspective. I loved seeing Evan and Seth grow closer even if they frustrated me at times. They really do make a fantastic team, and I can’t wait to see them kick warlock butt.
This is my review of the audiobook:
I loved Witchbane and The Rising, and I was happy to listen to this novella that takes place in between those books. Burn features Evan’s training, as well as the joys and the difficulties of Seth and Evan learning to live and work together as partners. It’s an entertaining and interesting tale, with the required creepiness thrown in; and the terrific narrator makes it even better.
This is a great addition to the Witchbane series.
If you follow my audiobook reviews, you know that I wasn’t completely in love with Witchbane, Book 1 in the Witchbane series. Burn, even though a novella, was better, and I found myself really getting into the story. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series now and have already downloaded the next book. Let’s get into the review.
Story: 4 Stars
I’m going to be honest with you, I wasn’t expecting much. This was Witchbane and a short novella, but I was proven wrong. The book put Seth and Evan more on an even playing ground, although, Seth has some issues and needs to get over them. This time though, the banter and interaction was enjoyable instead of borderline annoying. I liked this addition to the story and am really looking forward to the rest of the series. Great interaction, great characters, and I loved the action in this one. 4 stars!
Narration: 4.5 stars
Kale Williams is back for Burn, and once again, he has made the characters his. The pace was good and steady, and each character was made an individual with the different voices and annunciation. I thoroughly enjoyed his version of this book. 4.5 stars!
Overall: 4 Stars
Loved this book, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Because I liked Burn so much, I have already downloaded the next book in the series. Leery at first, Morgan Brice blew me away, and I’m thinking as this series goes on, I’ll find myself enjoying it more and more. The characters have grown on me and I want to see what happens next. I couldn’t stop listening. Overall, 4 stars!

Great action, adventure, and steam!!
I love the world Morgan has created and I love Seth and Evan. Their journey hasn’t been easy and has been a whirlwind in many ways but they are strong and so hot together.
Even though this is a novella there is so much packed into such a short story. It’s thrilling, suspenseful, and steamy with real heart and a great taste for what’s to come. It continues the adventure from book 1 and follows their journey to finding yet another killer in the paranormal world. There’s more to this story than meets the eye and I look forward to the next installment as I can tell Morgan’s building up to a major confrontation!!
Thrilling, steamy and witty. I loved it!

On the heels of the dramatic events in Witchbane Seth and Evan are faced with the reality of what life will look like if they stay the course. Evan struggles to reconcile everything that was with everything that could be and Seth is always assuming Evan will wise up and leave. With both of them avoiding the communication that matters they’re getting farther away from where they both yearn to be but don’t know how to get to. They’ve got a lot of work and confessing to do if they’re going to build a foundation and make progress toward a solid partnership.
This was a great novella to connect books one and two of the series because it delves into both of their hangups as well as giving a sense of what else is out there in the world of hunters. We’re able to see the ups and downs of adjusting to the relationship that started with such drama. Seeing them both training and hunting keeps the overarching plot fresh in our minds and also gives us a chance to see how they work together in a more “normal” setting and I have to say that I think they make a great team…they just need to get on the same page and stay on it. It’s not all happiness and roses, in fact, aside from their passion Burn is mostly filled with a lot of frustration, mistrust, second-guessing, and hurt. When the big decisions come it’s not without pain, but it is honest. Burn is a believable segue between the uncertainty after Witchbane to all the crazy that’s coming in Dark Rivers.
