I absolutely love this book! I am really invested in the characters and hope we will see Adam and Beverly in adventures again. They drive each other nuts, get in the way of each other, but their putting their heads together is crucial to getting the really bad people put away for a long, long time. Mr. X is a fascinating character who is given a much more prominent position than in previous books. Love is in the air? The book made me feel a lot of feelings from being a nervous wreck to getting such a kick out of the relationship you hope is being built between Adam and Beverly. It’s a fast paced thriller of a mystery that has more twists and turns than a roller coaster. I didn’t know until BV Lawson wanted me to know, who had done-it and how she wraps up this must read trilogy, making you long for more. This trilogy is a must read.
This is a really engaging read, I love the two main characters, Beverly and Adam and especially like the interaction between them, ranging from admiration to frustration and even anger, it’s certainly entertaining, and the ‘will they, won’t they’ uncertainty is very well written.
There are of course other plots, beside Beverly and Adam’s love life, and this time it’s a series of fires in antiques shops, one of which unfortunately claims a life. Adam and his partner Jinks are carrying out the official investigation, although this is hampered by the Mayor wanting Adam and his boss out, and his highly questionable cousin in, as a detective.
Beverly, aided by the rather mysterious Mr X carries out her own investigation, but she isn’t as restricted by rules as Adam, and her methods are rather reminiscent of her previous career as a con artist.
This book really needs to be read in sequence in the series, as there are several references to episodes in the earlier books.
I received an advance copy of this book, but this honest review has been voluntarily written.
These two characters are something else, truly opposites that have attracted to one another. Things get worse when a series of arsons has a dead body in one of the buildings. Can Adam and Beverly find out who is doing this and why? Or will they get burned in the process? You will have to read the book to find out. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book
“One link. One lead at a time.”
Someone is torching antique shops and Detective Adam Dutton is on the case, despite Sargent Moody…Meanwhile, Beverly Laborde is back in town. She and her shadowing friend Mr.X are doing their own investigating. Will they find the arsonist(s)? Are they in harm’s way, especially after the warning she gets?
In this, the third book in the series, our “dynamic duo” are hard at the investigation, each in their own way. BV Lawson has taken a chance setting this during the holidays and does it very sucessfully. I have become a big fan of this series and highly recommend it. 5/5
[disclaimer: I received this book as a gift from the author and have chosen to read and review it]
Very entertaining novel. A series of arsons on antique shops and a death. Beverly goes behind Adam’s back to help investigate. She uses disguises to hide her identity to get information. Beverly gets a threatening letter to back off the investigation. This novel will keep you interested throughout.
