Welcome to ‘American Sniper’ meets ‘The Godfather’ ─ another suspense action thriller from an author with over 500 Five-Star Kindle ratings. As Bob Burke’s 737 lands at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, he sees a man strangling a woman on a rooftop below. No one believes him, of course, but that doesn’t matter. He knows what he saw, and Bob Burke isn’t the kind of guy to let a thing like that rest. In … this medical fraud thriller, over the next three days, he finds himself butting heads with the Chicago mob, crooked suburban cops, a zealous US Attorney, a psychopathic doctor, and his own vindictive soon-to-be-ex-wife, who is trying to take his company away from him. Slight of build and now a telecommunications company executive, Burke appears to be an easy guy to dismiss; but ‘the telephone guy’ is a former Army Ranger and Delta Force commander who spent four tours in Iraq and the rugged mountains of Afghanistan running ‘special operations’ missions. He and his men are some of the most lethal killers the US government ever produced. As the others will readily admit, however, it is the little guy in the middle of their group photos who is the one you don’t want to meet in a dark alley. Whether he’s carrying a Barrett .50-caliber sniper rifle, a knife, or only his bare hands, he is equally lethal. So, when the bodies start falling, a young woman needs help, and the wrong people push his buttons, he doesn’t hesitate. His new combat zone might be a glittering high-rise office building, tract houses in a suburban subdivision, or a wooded Chicago Forest Preserve District, but they started it and Bob Burke intends to finish it. And when he needs a little backup, he knows just the guys to call.
If you like a good mafia crime best seller, put this fast-moving Delta Force thriller in your Cart. It is another war and military best seller novel from the author of ‘The Undertaker,’ ‘Amongst My Enemies,’ ‘Thursday at Noon,’ “Aim True, My Brothers,’ and ‘Winner Lose All.’ Enjoy!

Faced Paced Action Thriller
This is one exciting story. It could easily be made into a blockbuster movie! The story is tight and the plot is well conceived. It is actually a fairly clean story. The sex is integral to the story and is not too detailed. The violence, also integral to the story, will not give me nightmares. All of the loose ends are tied up in the end. It also ends with the guy and the girl riding off into the sunset (figuratively) for you to determine that end yourself. I can’t wait to jump into the next in the series. I received this book for free and voluntarily chose to post my honest review.
To look at Burke would one see him as one of the most lethal killers in the government. He is quiet, runs a telecommunications company.
What happens when flying into Chicago and sees a murder happen on a roof top, would he be dismissed or taken seriously. He gets his old gang together to prove and to see justice done that there was a murder, Great plot and the audio gave it the tension that added to the story. Well done and enjoyed. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Not a bad story, but somewhat unrealistic. Burke’s access to personnel and equipment is a little unbelievable and I seriously doubt a special ops team would take Burke’s girlfriend along on a raid.
Burke’s War – a review by Rosemary Kenny
Burke’s War reminds me of the movie Girl On A Train, or an Agatha Christie novel, where the MC sees a murder being committed from a distance – but with no proof of the killer’s nor victim’s ID.
William F. Brown introduces the Jack Reacher-like Bob ”Ghost” Burke, ex-Army, ex-CIA, now the ‘Telephone Guy’/CEO of a Government-contracted, hi-tech communications company, so cleverly, that you feel as if you’re seeing the action through his eyes.
The vindictive actions of his soon-to-be ex-wife, Angie, the entanglement of the killer’s company with the Mob, the death of innocent victims and the attempt to frame Bob for heinous crimes he didn’t commit all lead to him declaring the eponymous war…let evildoers tremble and flee his wrath!
Turn down the lights, take the phone off the hook and put the cat out for the night, because even at 500+ pages long, you won’t want to be disturbed, while you experience the full drama and tension of this epitome of a brilliant action-thriller, that guarantees a 5-star satisfaction even if you have to read all night – outstanding and unputdownable!
One man’s fight for “truth, justice, and the American way.” Burke sees a cold blooded murder, but no one believes him except the bad guys who immediately try to shut him up. Fortunately, Burke knows what to do about bad guys.
Great characters, realistic dialogue, plausible plot, and excellent writing. I particularly like that Burke doesn’t need to kill everyone in sight to get the job done – until it gets personal. Bravo!
This inaugural episode in the Bob Burke thriller series is action packed with dirty cops, mobsters, and innocent civilians not to mention at least one good guy – the telephone guy. Burke’s war sets the stage for an action hero who is just a normal guy with exceptional special forces training and a sense of duty that demands doing the right thing even when it means going up against all odds of success. Derrick Magolski’s narration brings the audiobook version of this story to life.
William Brown’s character Bob Burke is well worth following the series of books. Might be a bit of a stretch on some of his feats, but very entertaining.
