For twenty-five years the unsolved kidnapping of two young girls has haunted Minneapolis homicide detective Lucas Davenport. Today, the bodies have been found. Today, he returns to a crime—and a nightmare—darker than any before…A block on the edge of the Minneapolis loop is being razed when a macabre discovery is made: two girls buried under a rotted old house. Lucas Davenport knows how long … knows how long they’ve been there. In 1985, he was part of the manhunt to track down two kidnapped sisters. They were never found—until today. With the bodies discovered, Davenport has the chance to return to the crime that has haunted him for years. The deeper he probes, the more one thing becomes clear: It wasn’t just the bodies that were buried. It was the truth.

This book kept you thinking. Can’t go to sleep on it.
I love John Sandford’s Prey series and was excited to find one I hadn’t read already!
It’s John Sandford writing another Lucas Davenport. What else is there to say?
John Sandford is one of my top favorite authors!
Any book by Sanford will get 5 stars from me. He’s great, plot is great, style of writing is great……..I really get to know all his characters-him, his family, his associates (especially f***ing Flowers), the crooks. Top notch!
The discovery of bodies of two young girls takes Lucas Davenport back to a homicide case that has haunted him for 20 years. How many other young girls has this pedophile kidnapped and murdered in the last two decades? Will Davenport be able to solve this cold case before others are murdered? Missteps and wrong turns keep getting in the way. I have read several of John Sanford’s later novels featuring Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers. It was fun to go back in time to meet a young Davenport.
Sanford is one of the best authors, Always a great read
I love this book like I do all of Luckus Davenport books
I really enjoyed the story. It was interesting learning about Lucas Davenport as a young rookie cop and how he developed into the intense, and driven character that he has become.
Good read, once again John Sandford does not disappoint. This book provides more background on Lucas Davenport and his transition from a patrol cop to an investigator.
Anything John Sanford is a good read.
I enjoy his books when I want a good crime/detective drama. Lots of fun!
I have enjoyed all of Standford’s books.
This is one of my favorite series. I am reading it for the third time. Love it.
John Sandford has an exceptional ability to create characters that compel the reader’s interest, whether he’s writing of his primary protagonists, their supporting cast, or the ever-changing array of antagonists. The stories are always internally consistent, the development of plot is always credible, and his use of language is masterful.
Alway enjoy Lucas Davenport books!
John Sanford does not disappoint. A compelling story line populated by interesting and believable characters topped with some of the best dialogue written by any contemporary author. You simply can’t go wrong with one of these novels.
This book, like all his books, is scary so it is not for the faint hearted. However, if you enjoy that kind of story, read this book. I have read almost all of his books and never been disappointed.
Kept my attention. Read it in two days, and it left me wanting more. He is 2 for 2, for me and I will be reading others.
Definitely a page turner. Always enjoy Sanford’s writing and his characters and this book is no different. Highly recommended.
