For twenty-five years the unsolved kidnapping of two young girls has haunted Minneapolis homicide detective Lucas Davenport. Today, the bodies have been found. Today, he returns to a crime—and a nightmare—darker than any before…A block on the edge of the Minneapolis loop is being razed when a macabre discovery is made: two girls buried under a rotted old house. Lucas Davenport knows how long … knows how long they’ve been there. In 1985, he was part of the manhunt to track down two kidnapped sisters. They were never found—until today. With the bodies discovered, Davenport has the chance to return to the crime that has haunted him for years. The deeper he probes, the more one thing becomes clear: It wasn’t just the bodies that were buried. It was the truth.

John Sandford one of the best writers. You can’t go wrong with his books. Always a great read.
great author
I like Lucas Davenport good read
loved the author and the story.
Love the Prey books and as a MN native that lives away it is always fun to visit MPLS/ST Paul and the lake country again.
Typical of the Lucas series. I’ve enjoyed all so far
Big fan of Sandford’s Lucas Davenport. Always entertaining!
I love all John sanderford books
All the Davenport book are great. Read them all!
As usual, John Sandford grabs your interest and never lets go as he develops his very individualistic characters and the plot gathers momentum. Another enjoyable Lucas Davenport book.
Love anything and everything John Sandford
Love Sanford’s books!
I have read all the prey books, and while this was not the best it was still pretty good.
Well he’s its John Sandford enough said!
Great story that kept me involved throughout. I always like his characters and dialog. The Davenport books aren’t usually who-done-its — the bad guy is just introduced and the suspense is how the two will meet up and what will happen.
All of Sandfords books are very well written.
Fast paced and exciting. Typical John Sanford. Good plot and character development.
Not the best Sanford book I’ve read. Must have been an earlier one. Boring drifting off, describing scenery, houses, etc.
Innovative story opens with discovery of the buried bodies of 2 young girls who disappeared 25 years ago–and were Lucas Davenport’s very first case as a newbie detective. Almost immediately, readers become immersed in time to when the rash young Davenport debated his future with law enforcement, and scrambled to make sense of this horrific crime.
The first half of the story, told in flashback, fills in much of Davenport’s backstory and how (and why) he became the highly respected — but also feared — defender of the innocent. The second half brings readers back to the present, with the now-seasoned detective puzzling out what really happened 25 years ago. He must balance his fierce emotional pain that sometimes conflict with justice served. Friendships, family, past relationships and future peace layer this procedural with the brilliant characterization readers of the Prey books have come to expect. Highly recommended!
John Sanford books are really great reading. I love his writing but do not understand why I can buy a paperback at Wal-Mart or Costco cheaper than
buying from Kindle.
