Home is where the heart is … or the hatred. You can feel the love and care someone puts into their home just by walking into it. Equally, you can feel the hatred and malice when you step into a home where dark deeds have been done. Alex and his team of so-called paranormal investigators are given the opportunity of a lifetime when they are able to film inside one of the most haunted, and … inside one of the most haunted, and cursed, locations in their area.
The Jackson Mansion.
The thing that makes this mansion truly unique is that it is built completely underground. Determined to uncover the dark secrets of the mansion’s past, and prove himself a notable investigator, Alex doesn’t care what it takes. The mansion, however, has other ideas, as well as some rather restless occupants.

Wow wow wow!! I can’t for the life of me express how much I enjoy reading this story. It had all kinds of so horrific and twisted moments that like I say I don’t know how to put it in words to describe this haunting horror twisted tale. The think I can say that it was the most spooky read I have had so far in this year.
Paranormal investigators get more than they bargained for in the cursed Jackson Manor.
Horror is not my normal genre, but every once in a while I look for something to spook me. Sian B. Clavin certainly delivered with this twisted tale.
Christopher Shelby Slone did a great job with the narration. The perfect tone for the story.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
I enjoyed this creepy, crazy thriller so much, I listened to it two times! “Once you enter, (this mansion) you can never leave.” Meet the Jackson family and their mansion. Cursed? Ghosts? Haunted? A film crew enters to document, debunk the haunted house theory. Do any make it out alive???
I loved the narrator. He tells this story with just the right amount of expression. He reads it rapidly, but very distinctly. Well done.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Story Origin.
I have been devouring my collection of Claven’s books and this one was next on the list. The cover, as usual with her books, is stunning and scary. I couldn’t wait to dive into the story.
The first chapter demonstrated writing that was fabulously clear and on point, as well as set up a plot that drew me right into the thick of things, or should I say “underground.”
As the story moved along, things got creepier and darker, until I felt the breathless fear of being in a nightmare where you just can’t move fast enough to get away. The events definitely had my adrenaline pumping away.
The ending chapters presented a twist I hadn’t seen coming and had me racing to get to the conclusion. The final scene was shocking perfection and went right along with the terror that was Buried. Brilliantly done!
You think you’re scared now…wait ’til the lights go out!
Buried, my first read from author Sian B. Claven. Reminiscent of Joe Hill’s Locke & Key series. Extremely well-written, the characters, even the minor ones, are well developed with a creepy, attention-grabbing storyline. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why do they do the things they do. The things that make the reader get invested in the characters and thereby the story. I’ll be reading more from this author, I look forward to her next book no matter the main character. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.” The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Christopher Shelby Slone’s narration fits the book perfectly! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
3.5 Cranky Stars
I really really really like gory horror novels.
I love books with a rich backstory and twists and turns. Maybe some folklore and ghosts. This book has all of that. I love how the different tragic occurrences at this one haunted location are revealed individually showcasing it’s seriously disturbing past. It was hard to put this book down. The story was legitimately scary.
The one complaint I have is with the characters themselves. Some of the group in this book go beyond making a couple of bad choices and straight into plain stupid territory. Stupid as in having a big chunk of flesh ripped out the side of your neck by an actual monster and still claiming “this could all just be our imagination.” Dude, your neck is gaping open and gushing blood. No, that’s not imaginary.
all in all, I give this book 3.5 out of 5 stars. I liked it. I didn’t love it. If the characters were a tad more intelligent, I’d have ranked it higher. Good scary plot though. I’m a sucker for haunted houses.
