The story is getting more and more interesting!! In this book you can witness how our strong heroine confronted her biggest challenge so far. Now the villains are hidden close to her and are more twisted than ever. Of course, she will defeat them with the help of her friends. I cannot wait for the next book after the way this book ended! Mr Bennet really knows how to get a story going on!
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
The Civil War was over and Anna was on the throne. Those that had lost the war were making plans replace Anna’s advisors and supporters so that they could once again take over the throne. Though their plans did not go exactly as they had planned they still hoped to bring their plans to bear. Her close supporters and advisors stay close to her and gave her the support she needed this is a well written book and a very readable book. I would highly recommend this book and those that have gone before…
Author BENNETT does fine work, and this novel is no exception…READ IT!
The next book in the Heir to the Crown series does not disappoint. Anna, Gerald, and the loyal companions have come through the war, but now face a different sort of battle. As Anna tries to move the kingdom (or queendom?) forward, she is met with resistance from those already established in the former reign. They plot to unseat her, using a variety of tactics. Those close to Anna are threatened, and she must make the difficult choice of using the personal power of the monarch, or allowing her newly minted laws of justice prevail.
All the characters are maturing, and showing multiple sides of their personalities. The are some surprise events, and some events that it was “about time” that happen.
A wonderful book in the series that is hard to put down, and whets the appetite for the next one.
Recieved another ARC from the Heir to the Crown series and as expected it was another good clean:-) read following Princess Anna (now Queen Anna) and her entourage. Wasn’t quite as much action ad in some but followed more of treachery and intrigue of the court. Was kind of surpised at how modern the dialog and procedures in court were, was kind of like reading a medieval Matlock or Perry Mason.
Princess Anna is now trying to win over the Court and the Nobles in this newest book by Paul Bennett. We see the grown up Princess becoming Queen, and try to implement the high ideals that she dreamed of as a little girl.
However, these ideals have to apply to everyone, and the scheming Nobles find a way to not only implicate one, but two of the key supporters of the now Queen Anna.
As the trials continue we see how upholding truth and goodness do win out in the end, and that the true test of Love is whether the person is willing to suffer for the good of those around them. Of course, the main character I love, rises to this occasion, still showing how fragile he is, as he know he is reaching the end of his endurance when the punishment is finally unexpectedly lifted.
If you’ve enjoyed the others in the series, this is much the same with good triumphing in the end.
I really enjoyed this. I think it could be enjoyed as part of the series or a standalone novel. Action packed and suspenseful. Really find myself loving these characters!
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest opinion. Burden of the Crown is part of a series but easily stands alone with it’s story. I am sure if you read the previous books you would get more out of the story but I have not read them yet. This is a quick read for the most part. There are a couple of slow areas for me, but they did not last long. Overall it is a nice story. A new leader trying to transition the the kingdom into new ways to operate, such as no one is above the law including the Queen herself. I really enjoyed the parts dealing with the magic and their exploration to figure how it works in different ways depending on the type of mage. Some of the drama in the story regarding the trials of two of the characters could have been a bit more intense or suspenseful. I do feel there needs to be a bit more depth to the politics playing out. This story is an enjoyable light fantasy. A nice escape for a rainy day.
Book six in Bennett’s’ Crown series does not fail. As all the other books this addition adds to the cast and to the story. Enjoyable to spend time in a world of magic, chivalry, mixed with youth and hope.
