As with any novel by DiAnn Miles, this reader cannot put them down. Especially if you are in the last quarter of the book. Plan on reading into the night. Way into the night.
Burden of Proof by DiAnn Mills captured me with an incredible, breathtaking shock at the end of Chapter one. My heart pounded with the surprise moment. I won’t spoil your experience by writing details. I enjoyed the mystery, clues which the author dropped throughout, and the dialogue drew me into the experience. The conclusion was certainly a surprise and gripped my adventure through the story. I found it difficult to read dialogue in the bit of the book, meaning only it was a little slower pace in understanding who spoke at times. The genre of Suspense and mystery is a favorite for me personally, and the romantic elements are quite light, which I appreciated in order to focus on the crime solving details. An excellent read. I am looking forward to reading another of her novels, called Footsteps.
I have read several of DiAnn Mills’ books and this is one of the most suspenseful! I don’t want to give any of this exciting book away except to say to keep your eyes glued for all the clues and a twist at the end!
As usual, DiAnn Mills writes a suspenseful story filled with endearing characters and thrilling moments. April Ramos, FBI Agent, is entangled in a web of intrigue when she is taken hostage by a desperate father, Jason Snyder.
Jason’s unbelievable story of being framed for murder by an unscrupulous sheriff seems impossible to April but, as she uses her investigative skills, the unlikely story begins to ring true. In spite of the risk to her career and to her life, April is determined to clear Jason’s name and to expose the sheriff.
I highly recommend Burden of Proof. DiAnn Mills fans will love this story and those who are reading one of her books for the first time will want to read more!
Burden of Proof is a fast-paced suspense novel. FBI negotiator, April Ramos is taken hostage by Jason Snyder, who’s been framed for his best friends murder. His infant daughter was kidnapped and thrust into the arms of Special Agent Ramos which is what leads him to force her to go with him and help him prove his innocence.
DiAnn Mills does a great job of keeping the story moving, building realistic characters, adding in unexpected twists, and keeping the expected interesting. I enjoyed this story from beginning to end and am really looking forward to reading the next book in the FBI: Rapid Response Series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
Who doesn’t love a good book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This book does just that there are so many twist and turns you never know what’s going to happen next. In fact at one point in the book something intense was happening and my houses fire alarms went off needless to stay I jumped. I really liked how no matter what the characters faced it was always coming back to rely on God and his will in there lives. I really liked how the book kept you guessing from the beginning to the end. This book is a clean read and will keep you on the edge of your seat from page one till the last page. You really can’t go wrong with this amazing read.
Another roller coaster ride, which DiAnn is known for! Grab this book, sit down, strap in and take the ride! You won’t be sorry! Every book I read from this author I totally enjoy and I always learn things since the research is obviously well done! Can’t wait for the next book!
BURDEN OF PROOF by DiAnn Mills was an excellent read. I found it very interesting and I hated putting it down to attend to the mundane! 🙂 I’ve really enjoyed other novels she has written! Her tag line “Always Expect an Adventure” fits her stories! This will be a re-read for me!
This was yet another one of DiAnn’s amazing novels. It took me two days to read this because I couldn’t put it down. This novel makes you think and keeps you guessing until the end. The characters are real and well developed.
DiAnn Mills did an outstanding job filling each page of Burden of Proof with suspense and well-developed characters. I found myself wanting to help April after she was abducted by a fugitive, Jason. Definitely a page-turner! I couldn’t read fast enough. This is a must read!
I just led a online book club discussion of this book and we thoroughly loved this book. I do recommend this new release highly and it makes us look forward to her upcoming releases even more.
I was attracted to Burden of Proof because…
I’m an ardent fan of DiAnn. I always look forward to her next book.
This book was about
FBI Special Agent, April Ramos is trying to pull herself together after a failed negotiation when she is thrusted into an intriguing scheme of murder, kidnapping and corrupt law enforcement. The action sweeps her from predictable partner and routine in Houston into a different world in East Texas. She has to either trust her instincts or her training as she goes through the adventure of being a hostage, a fugitive and a law officer.
Things I liked about this book
The intriguing story is constantly moving your forward while introducing you to fascinating characters and story line. There is very little time to take a break.
This story shows how devastating life can be when authorities take advantage of their position and how difficult it is to overcome.
There also is an honest presentation of a character’s response to people who are living there life out in faith during difficult situation.
Why you should read this book
We all need to consider how far we are willing to go to stand for justice, especially when our most treasured love ones are threatened.
This book lived up to the back cover copy
The tales Agent Ramos is confronted with as the book open seem as tall as the trees in East Texas. Using all of her investigation skills, as well of personal protection skills she will wend her way to the truth.
I loved this book, DiAnn Mills writes books that show you how gritty and horrible things really are in this world. The story starts out with a baby being shoved into the arms of an FYI agent and then a man waving a gun at the agent claiming to be the baby’s father. And the web just gets stickier from tnere. You won’t find a better writer in this or any genre!
Intense, fast-paced, action-packed, and very, very good. Lots of interesting info about the FBI. Ms. Mills’ research is fantastic. Loved it!
From page 1 I could hardly put this book down. It kept me guessing and just when I thought it was “winding down” something else would happen to keep me guessing. At points I held my breath and it wasn’t till the clear end that I started to suspect the true killer. Highly recommend.
“The darkest moments of our lives are intended for God to use in a mighty way.”
“What were the odds of a negotiator being held hostage?” F. B. I. Special Agent April Ramos is trained to talk desperate people out of life altering situations, but her day began with tragic results. Now April finds herself caught in between a gun wielding father, his infant daughter, and a crazy story. Thankfully, her training takes over as she hears herself speak more calmly that she feels; “I need to hear what you have to say”.
Jason Snyder is adamant, he has been falsely accused of killing his business partner while the local sheriff has taken corruption to an entirely new level; arresting Jason on trumped up charges, destroying crime scene evidence, and kidnapping Jason’s daughter as a bargaining chip. He seems sincere, hasn’t given off any false indicators, and his parents quickly backed up the kidnapping incident; but Jason has still broken the law by holding a federal agent at gunpoint against her will, and newscasters are describing him as armed and dangerous.
April has stumbled into a complicated case, especially after evidence surfaces confirming that the roots of corruption have been effectively snaking throughout the entire citizenry of Sweetbriar, Texas for quite some time. Who’s telling the truth, and how can April determine what to do next; for right now it seems that the entire burden of proof has been placed upon her slim shoulders.
In spite of its rapid pace and perplexing trails of evidence, “Burden of Proof” also displays a much gentler side. April and Jason share quite a few meaningful conversations about important things, while growing in their trust and admiration for each other. It’s very nicely balanced and one of the author’s best books!
DiAnn Mills has again captured my attention with her latest romantic suspense, Burden of Proof. Her first sentence hangs the cloud of dread over the reader and sets the stage beautifully for the angst and fear to come. This has got to be one of the most uniquely bizarre, yet believably ordinary starts to a novel of this type.
With a moments of comic relief, Mills has combined fast-paced, almost reckless action with faith and desperation. Throughout Burden of Proof we see the tension between doing what is right and what is expedient. One of the quotes I am drawing deeply on right now:
“The darkest moments of our lives are intended for God to use in a mighty way.”
Discussion questions at the end help make this a good choice for a book club.
I gratefully received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House and the author. This in no way affects my opinions, for which I am solely responsible. No positive review was required.
Once again, DiAnn hits the mark with another winner. The main character is having a bad day that goes from bad to worse. The story moves along without feeling rushed. DiAnn is able to make you have all of the emotions that the characters are feeling. This is one of those books that leaves you feeling good in the end. Most of DiAnn’s books are stand alones and well researched. The thing that got me with this one was that when I neared the end of a chapter, I thought I could put it down. Not so. I had to read a page or two into the next chapter to see what happened. A very compelling trick to keep the reader reading.
Thank you DiAnn for the advanced copy for my honest review.

An edge of your seat story that kept me up late reading. April is caught in the middle of a baby kidnapping. Then she gets kidnapped herself. Her faith and Jason’s faith is tested all along the way. She doesn’t know who to believe. Jason or the law authorities that say he is a murderer. Then to top it all off, she is starting to have feelings for Jason. I really enjoy reading Ms Mills books and this was no exception. I recommend book to anyone who loves suspense with a little romance thrown in.
I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
I love the action and suspense of Diann Mill’s books.
