The third in the hilarious yet sizzling hot Hudson Valley series from New York Time and USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton. Clara Morgan is living the dream, if you can call rebranding hotels that are desperate for a new life and running any kind of marathon a dream. Which she does. But the career she loves and the endurance races that keep her adrenaline pumping have kept her too busy to … pumping have kept her too busy to put down any roots. Growing up in foster care, she’s never been able to establish traditions of her own, which may be why she’s fascinated by the rituals that generations-old family resorts are known for. She’s especially interested in the Bryant Mountain House, and not just for their secret recipe for the yummy, gooey, can’t-get-enough-of Hot Cross Buns….
Archie Bryant, the man with the Buns, is fifth generation and one-day-owner of the charming yet run-down Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. He’s determined to save his family’s legacy from the wrecking ball the old-fashioned way–by gritting his teeth and doing what needs to be done. There’s no way Archie will be influenced by the new hotel branding expert his father brought in to turn one hundred and fifty years of tradition on its head just to attract a faster, younger, slicker crowd. But when some of Clara’s ideas start bringing in new, paying customers, Archie can’t deny that she may have just given him a shot at keeping his resort open.
It’s sticky, it’s messy, it’s sweet, it’s Buns.more
Love this series! Such fun!
Amazing story!! There was explosive chemistry, swooning, laughing, tenderness, guilt to overcome, healing, heart breaking moments, passion and jaw dropping sexiness – so many feels, but is was an amazing ride.
Again, Clayton totally blew me away. First though, I had a bit of an issue with the audiobook because the narrator’s voice was the same who does Tessa’s voice in the audiobooks for the After series by Anna Todd, which I’ve listened to over and over. But soon enough I was able to get past it and really get into the story. While the main character, Clara, did one of those things that seems to be standard, but I never quite get, I dealt with it. I personally have situations with friends or family that I didn’t have when I was a kid or still haven’t had with friends, and if they were to come about, I would be so happy now! So I don’t understand people who don’t want them when they do come around. But I guess I understand the part about worrying about being disappointed in the end, the worry that usually drives these characters. I loved having all of the characters from the first two books come back, especially Natalie and Oscar from Cream of the Crop. And it was even great to have characters from both the Cocktail series, that I love, and the Redhead series that I own all of it, but haven’t read yet, make cameos in this one. My biggest sadness though with this story, is that I have no idea what is coming next for the author. This is the final novel in this series I think, since it was just the three friends. So I’m very eager to see what she has up her sleeves next. Although, as I mentioned, I still have one whole series to read and another to finish.
FAMILY AND TRADITIONS
Clara grew up in foster care with no family and no one to depend on. Archie grew up with nothing but family and traditions. When these two are thrown together to revamp his family resort they butt heads more than once and then they see that maybe there could be more.
Buns is the third installment of the Hudson Valley series by Alice Clayton and it’s every bit what you’d expect from a Clayton story. She has the ability to bring her characters to life in a way that they become some of your best friends and you feel like you’re right beside them. Buns is all about Clara, the third member of the Roxie, Natalie, Clara trio. These three met in culinary school, only one of them finished. The other two quickly discovered cooking wasn’t for them.
Clara’s talents lie in rebranding and rejuvenating some of the oldest, most prestigious, hotels/resorts across the world. She’s good at it, too. Very good. So, when the Bryant Mountain House resort in Bailey Falls needs some updating, Natalie recommends her BFF, Clara. Clara is all in. She’ll be able to do what she does best while spending some quality time with her besties. The only problem? Archie. One stiff-necked, unbending, “we’ve always done it this way” kinda guy who happens to be the next in line to take over Byrant Mountain House. He’s absolutely having nothing to do with changing things up. There’s tradition to consider….. Nope, things are not gonna change on his watch……
If you like an enemies to lovers story with lots of hilarious moments and snark then you should check this one out. Like most of Alice Clayton’s books, you’ll laugh out loud and throw in a few “awwws” for good measure.
3.7 I’m hooked on thIs series and Buns is a sweet, funny read. Clara heads to the Bryant Mountain House for her job to help the business make a turnaround, Archie is beyond thrilled to have her there the chemistry between these two is constantly push and pull that will leave you laughing at their actions. Personally I felt a dip in the storyline at times and I would start to drift off but then something would be revealed and my interest was right back into the story. I am hooked on Oscar’s story but our “Hotel Man” is still swoon worthy. I love how we get the whole group back and see what’s been going on with everyone in Hudson Valley. This is a standalone but I highly recommend you grab the whole series. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
One of my favorite author. Alway witty fun charaters!
A fun naughty end to this authors trilogy. I must admit to liking the first two characters in the Nuts and Cream of the Crop a bit better but still a fun naughty romp.
I really enjoyed this book.
Roxie Callahan left home to get away from her small hometown, and to become a chef. Circumstance allow her to go home to run the family diner as her mother goes on an adventure. She doesn’t believe in love, or relationships. Enter Leo Maxwell, the hot guy who delivers nuts to the diner. Roxie is in town for the Summer and Leo is all for hooking up during her stay.
What transpires is a lot of fun, sexy times, and insecurities for both Roxie and Leo as they fall in love. But … will their love conquer their fears?
