THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR *THE BOY ON THE BRIDGE* BY SAM MARIANO:
REVIEW: 5 WOAH STARS
“I may not be an angel, but I’m definitely in heaven.”
It’s every once in a while I get this excited for a story, especially one that is a novella – in an anthology, no less. I realize I scream about books often, but when the internal feelings manifest into giddy outward excitement, that says A LOT to me. This book was E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. good that is Sam Mariano’s writing. Her forte is bully. She can tug on your heartstrings on one page and kick your feet out from under you on the next. This type of emotional turmoil is what I live for in a book. Because NOT ONLY am I falling in love with a character, but I am falling in love with excuses and reasons I wouldn’t normally entertain.
“I’m not saying I have a crush on Hunter, but I’m definitely preoccupied by him.”
I. NEED. MORE. HUNTER AND RILEY. I realize this was only a prequel of sorts with a raging cliffhanger, but it’s sitting pretty on my favorites list already. I can only imagine the full book will end up there as well, which I’m now anxiously awaiting. This book reset my ideas of amazing YA in the bully trope and I will forever chase this kind of high with Sam Mariano’s books. This is twice now that she’s given me this buzz that shows how much I love this book lane she dominates. SO so good.
I am so in love with the way Hunter decides how things are going to be. I know that sounds bad, but hear me out. He’s honest, real, and quite obvious….but it all benefits his agenda in its own sly way. But I love how he is with Riley. I love that her angelic side doesn’t turn off his devilish side. It’s seriously the perfect mix!! Oh. My. Gosh. He makes me giggle and smile watching him manipulate any situation for his benefit. I also loved his young man, alpha side. It obviously starts up young with some, but this was completely age appropriate flirting and I honestly loved it. It’s relatable. It’s smile inducing. It’s giggle worthy. It’s perfection. I imagine it has to be hard to write cocky with confidence, but Mariano pulls that off exquisitely, almost effortlessly, with Hunter.
The relationship Riley has with her mother is refreshing and I feel like I want to point this out. It’s real and honest and I love the discussions and the truths they share with each other. The open communication is great to see/read about because not always do we get that dynamic in a book and it’s usually a bad relationship with mother and daughter that spurs on the actions and consequences in a book, and I felt like I wanted to point that out because it’s most definitely lacking in many of the books I read.
This story is proof positive that love can’t hurt you….unless it affects you. Unless it touches you deep within. You can’t deny it when it delivers the gut punch you never saw coming. I am freaking excited for more of this story and I can tell you, I’ll be the first one standing in line, jumping up and down for a chance to read this one early and share it with you all.
I want more!!!! THIS is the Sam Mariano I first met and fell in love with. This right here. The bully trope is unequivocally her wheelhouse. She shines in this trope and can obviously write a gripping story of a young love that simply doesn’t appear to fit according to plan, and one that pushes some buttons. I feel like she’s going to take great pleasure in my death upon the finish of this story. She’s currently writing the full story to be sold separately and plans to have it out sometime on or around May 2020.
“Everything about him feels dark right now.”

I DON’T GENERALLY PROMOTE OR READ ANTHOLOGIES, BUT THIS ONE WAS BENEFITTING DITCH THE LABEL, AN ANTI BULLYING CAMPAIGN
this was a good book… though i was a little disappointed that there was just one complete story, and the rest were only prologues from books that have have not even been announced yet, but still all the stories are worth the wait. 🙂
I loved that this book has 8 amazing authors that are willing to share their stories to help promote the demise of bullying! How cool is that!?! All proceeds are donated to Ditch the Label in an effort to end bullying!!
CHARLIE – SIOBHAN DAVIS
Rydeville Elite is one of my favorite series. I absolutley love that Siobhan ties her characters into other stories and shares her amazing mind with us. I could not put into words how happy I was to find out that Charlie would receive his own book.
I have always been a fan of Charlie. Not that I wanted to see him with our Abby, because she will always be Kai’s girl. 😉 But the love and adoration that he held for her, redeemed him in my book. He made some poor choices, but he pulled away stronger. I was always curious of what was going on in his head, and now I know!
In Charlie’s debuted book, we get a look into Charlie’s POV and his new love interest Demi. She is strong, compassionate and honestly, anyone willing to deal with the elite, is okay in my book. 😉 I loved that my favorite characters from Rydeville all came back to play and if your body craves the wicked desires, Siobhan never lacks in that department!! I love the start of this book and can’t wait to read the rest of Charlie’s book when it is released in May!!
The ORIGINAL BULLET – CORALEE JUNE
This is a prequel to an amazing series, that our amazing Coralee June shared with us. I am absolutley ready to live in the world of the Bullets!! If you have not read the Bullets trilogy yet, DO IT!!! You will thank Coralee later. 😉
In the Original Bullet, we get a sneak peak of Gavriel and Summers story, at the beginning. Gah! Gavriel Moretti (swooning) is temptation on a stick! I liked how their friendship began, the quirky banter and the hidden desire that will later ignite the fire within inside! Deffinitely a must read!!
This class of 2020 has it all! Redemption for prior bullies , prequels to what will happen to new bullies, origin stories to flush out what has happened to old bullies, and most importantly angst on top of angst on top of angst. Bully Me is gloriously full of short stories written by a collection of authors that know how to write some of the best angsty stories. Let me tell you that with each story in this anthology, you will not only be drawn into a new world worth diving head first into, but you will want to devour it entirely.
The authors and stories included in this anthology are:
Charlie by Siobhan Davis
Make You Beg by Shantel Tessier
Like You Care by Kaydence Snow
A Prequel to The Boy on the Bridge by Sam Mariano
The Original Bullet by Coralee June
Devil’s Day Party by C.M. Stunich
Hood River Rat by K. Webster
Riot House by Callie Hart
Here are just a few glimpses into some of the stories contained in this anthology:
Charlie: This is part of the Rydeville series and yet if you haven’t read this amazing series yet, this short story will give you a look into what the story is about and what is coming up for the future of where the series is headed without giving too much away on either account. Charlie held a pivotal role in the overall arc, but here he is after the dust has settled just trying to pick up his shattered life and living with the remorse he initially played. This story will gut you if you are a fan and have you looking forward to the next book in the series.
The Original Bullet: This is a prequel to the series where you get a glimpse into Summer and Gavriel’s beginning. Summer is a meek, perfect girl by all appearances, but when Gavriel moves in across the street the girl inside comes out to say hello. These two unlikely people actually bond and give us a teaser to their bigger overall story. I haven’t read the trilogy yet, but I’m really looking forward to picking it up.
A Prequel to The Boy on the Bridge: A regrettable mistake, an unlikely friendship, and abuse all tie up in this prequel that is a total gripping read. I really need to know more after reading this story because I have a burning desire to find out what happens when things all go to hell for Hunter and Riley. This story will tug at your empathy and angst so hard. GAH! You’ll love it!
Hood River Rat: A new adult/coming of age MM dark romance. A story full of bullies, but also a story full of compassion. A student that is very aware of his sexual orientation, but now that he’s moved to a new school, he’s just trying to fit in socially and he doesn’t want to make his sexuality stand out, but when the biggest bully in school sets off his gaydar it’s hard not to take notice of him. This story had my emotions up and down and all over the place. I desperately need to know what happens next and I can’t wait to find out.
SO MANY AMAZING STORIES! MANY NOW FULL LENGTH BOOKS AND I LOVED THEM ALL!
SIOBHAN, YOU’RE KILLIN ME!!!
I just finished reading about Charlie and HOLY FREAKIN MOLY!! It blew me away. It tore my heart out. I know at the end of Sweet Retribution he had turned into someone else. He was blinded by lust over Abby but here well, WOW! It was unbelievable seeing his side of it. It was so heart breaking and at times he was still an @sshole but he still had some redeeming qualities. I love Demi’s character and was absolutely shocked by the revelations about her. I can’t wait for more!
I need to get back to finish the book but so far I Absolutely Love it!!
I just finished Shantel Tessier’s novela Make You Beg and I LOVED IT! I can’t wait for the book to find out what happens. I totally believe Henley. I believe Dax did exactly what she says he did but I don’t understand why Scout doesn’t. Does he not know Dax as well as he thinks he does? What’s going on?!! I need more! I highly recommend this book to everyone but wow what a teaser. I have to admit I didn’t care for the other books just these two. Charlie was my favorite. I freakin adore Siobhan Davis and her writing. I can never get enough.
OH.MY.GOSH. This collection of stories was amazing. These authors have put together an epic anthology that has teased and tormented me and I need more! Every story was unique. Every story was captivating. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone and I can’t wait for the rest of these stories!
Riot House by Callie Hart
Omg I need more ASAP. The chemistry between Wren & Elodie is off the charts. I need too know what exactly is going too happen next. Another amazing story with amazing characters that had me hooked.
Devil’s Day Party by C.M Stunich
Omg I need more ASAP. I can’t really stand Calix, Barron and Rax but knowing CM I will absolutely love them. This story had me hooked and I definitely want more.
Review more as I read.
NAIL BITING, ANGSTY, TOTAL CLIFFHANGERS BUT OOOOH SO DELICIOUS!!
WOW!!!! I didn’t really understand that these were prelims of upcoming books but to be honest I could care less about that!! This was an amazing way to introduce authors to new readers and let them actually get a good feel for the way each author writes and if they want to continue reading their work; however at the same time supporting a terrific cause. I absolutely loved each story with the exception of the last one and that’s just because I don’t enjoy reading that particular trope, but besides that I love the author. Each of these stories were fantastic in their own way and I will definitely be watching for the full length books to continue reading. Kudos to all the participating authors in their efforts to support such a worthwhile cause.
Phenomenal collection that had me TBRing and one-clicking all over the place. I did bypass a few because I’m due to review the full versions soon, and didn’t want to spoil it, but the ones I did read, sucked me in and have me so excited for what’s to come!! Love me some bully romance!!
~~~Erika, Book Haven Book Blog
Eight amazing authors teamed up to write this anthology: Bully Me: Class of 2020.
Every book features different scenarios in which somebody has to endure bullying. These authors didn’t write this anthology for fun, but to benefit an anti-bullying-organization which will support victims of bullying.
The authors have definitely nailed it with this idea and their individual books. Every single book/ sample in Bully Me: Class of 2020 is extremely good written! I think even if you’ve never experienced bullying first hand, these eight ladies made you understand what impact bullying has on people and that it happens more often than you think. You should always be kind to others and help people in need!
Each author has her own individual style of writing so I think it’s sometimes hard for people to really enjoy these story samples, because once you’re really into it, the next “book” is starting and you’re sample is already finished. But I also think that especially in this anthology the authors did a really great job for us readers to enjoy reading the samples, to make us want more but also to make us want to read the next sample.
I personally don’t like to be teased that much by authors, that’s why i usually don’t like to read anthologies that much. As for Bully Me, I can tell you guys that it is soooo worth it! I devoured every book sample or prequel in it and I still can’t get enough! I’m still overwhelmed and can’t wait to get my hands on the full books in 2020
If you love great bully romances you should definitely consider reading this great anthology!!
Here are some small reviews of the samples/prequels in Bully Me: Class of 2020:
CHARLIE by Siobhan Davis
This sample features Charlie Barron whom we know from the Rydeville Elite series and Demi, his assistant. I have to say that I wasn’t always the biggest fan of her books – I loved some but others were just a tad too dramatic for my liking. But let me tell you guys CHARLIE was AMAZING!!! I really enjoyed this huge snippet from Charlie’s and Demi’s book. I totally fell in love with these two!
The book was sexy and just the right amount of dark, hurtful and dramatic. Loved it And I can say that I will for sure dive into the world of the Rydeville Elite 😉
MAKE YOU BEG by Shantel Tessier
This book reminds me so much of her previous DARE series – which I loved so much btw! – that I was totally into this book from the beginning! A small town with privileged guys that rule everybody except for one girl it seems. One of them did something unforgivable and she will make him pay – no matter the cost.
It was a small snippet of what’s to come and I really can’t wait for Shantel to blew my mind again with this book and where she will take it 🙂
Devil’s Day Party by C.M. Stunich
This was my first time loop story! I wasn’t too keen on reading this because I didn’t know whether I would enjoy something like that… but I gotta say it was reaaaally good!! Stunich planted a lot of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and I think this will be a hell of story once it will fully publish! Can’t wait to get my hands on it 🙂
Buckle up Buttercup!! Because these are 8 phenomenal authors who love to dabble on the dark side, they are the Queen’s of Bully romance! And they’re ready to rock your world!! Ahh! I love each and every one of these authors! If you know them you, you NEED this anthology, if you don’t know them, You NEED this anthology! Each book in this anthology is a lengthy clip, a Taste, a Tease of their WPs that they are about to release! What’s that mean? It means you get 8 books/quickies, (I’m thinking about 100p each). They’re a taste of what’s to come, each book will be getting either an epilogue, completed, more scenes…bottom line is MORE, in the near future, next few months in 2020. This anthology is to help support victims of bullying (all proceeds will go to ditch the label).
Siobhan Davis – Charlie (5 Stars)
This book is an interconnected stand-alone romance in the Rydeville Elite world. It can be read without having read the first three books in the series. This would be #4.
I have not read the series yet. But man, I can’t wait to start it!
Omg! I loved these characters! This short story was Sexy and so angsty! Charlie and Demi’s story is a rough one! I couldn’t get enough of their love/hate thing they had going on. It’s one of my favorite things for characters to have! You instantly realize there is so much more going on with Charlie and some of the other characters, it snares you and makes you want it all. Their attraction is so magnetic and heated, they definitely start a fire! My heart aches for both of these characters, each has been through/ going through so much and there are still things we don’t know. I’m super excited to read this series and if I read that correctly there will be more to Charlie’s book coming in May.
Callie Hart- Riot House (5 Stars)
Sometimes the right thing isn’t always the easiest and it doesn’t always make things better but it still needs to be done. My heart was torn out for these characters and I need to know what comes next!
A time loop bully Romance.
Omg! This short clip was insane!! I freaking loved it! In true Stunich form, she steals your attention from beginning to end! I was completely riveted, a mess of heart-pounding, high anxiety, basket case just swallowing up the words! I loved Karma! Their storyline was new and it was sinister and intriguing! I received an ARC of Bully Me Anthology in exchange for an honest review.
Review for Sam Mariano’s Prequel to The Boy on the Bridge:
YES! I need more! I need the rest of Hunter and Riley’s story!
“Don’t torture me, Hunter.”
“This isn’t what it feels like to be tortured by me, Catnip.”
It took me a few pages to get into this one (literally only a few), but then it was off to the races in pure Mariano style! Riley’s adolescent tension was so perfectly on point. I remember vividly what it felt like to have a young crush. The butterflies. The ache in your chest. The insecurity. It is captured beautifully here. Her excitement that this boy, this COOL boy, likes HER (well, I definitely can’t relate to that part, but I can imagine). Not that she cares if he is “cool,” but it just adds to the difficulty surrounding their potential relationship.
I definitely felt like the other shoe was about to drop at any moment– this isn’t an anthology about warm and fuzzies, after all. The anticipation of knowing it would happen, but not knowing when, turned it up a notch.
His own mother thinks he’s a bully. Maybe I’m the fool for thinking he’s not.
Of course, in THIS situation, it seems Riley’s insecurity (and her mother’s wariness) were warranted.
“What you did today… that was just cruel.”
Hunter shrugs. “Never claimed to be a nice guy.”
When things go south, they go real south.
It’s a good thing he’s standing close, because I can’t get out much beyond a whisper. “I’m so sorry.”
With a knowing little nod, he says, “Not sorry enough, though. Don’t worry. You will be.”
Riley hopes maybe it will blow over. Maybe he will let it go. But this is Sam Mariano…
He will definitely not let it go.
“No one can hold a grudge quite like my son.”
I can’t wait to get my grabby hands on the rest of the stories in this anthology– the 24th can’t come soon enough!!
Riot house bt Callie Hart had me on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page. This story is definitely one I’ll want to finish reading. Wren and Elodie’s relationship has me wanting to see where it goes.
The original bullet by CoraLee June is yet another masterpiece. I honestly loved reading about Summer and Gavriel this story really got to me in a good way.
The boy on the Bridge by Sam Mariano stole my heart and breath just as Shantel Tessier’s Make You Beg. These books are dark and yet I still need more. I want to see what happens with Hunter and Riley and also with Henly Scout Dax Relilk and Law
Hood River Rat by K Webster was different than most of the things I’ve read by her. Roan and Hollis are definitely two I loved reading about.
The Boy on the Bridge, is gonna suck you in to the amazing writing of Sam Mariano. Sam, writes dark romance that captures my romantic heart. It’s not sweet or fluffy. It’s edgy, it’s raw, it makes you feel for the bad boy. Sam started a tale of revenge which I can’t wait to read the rest of this story.
Sam Mariano
This will be a long review as I will review each Author and story separately. First I would like to add I am on the street team for 2 of these authors. That said I get nothing in return for leaving my review. I will review them first and then for the rest in no particular order.
Sam Mariano
The boy on the Bridge Prequel
This story is fantastic. The perfect introduction to these new characters and the world in which they live. This short story left me wanting no needing so much more. Like right now. This is not my first rodeo in Sam’s world as stated above I am on her street team and she is one of my absolute favorite authors. I can not wait to be swallowed by this story and these characters.
Shantel Tessier
Make You Beg
This story from the get go made me want more. I love this author (also why I’m on street team) and all she has wrote as well and its no surprise I will love this series too. She has this way of sucking you into the stories she writes. For me I’ll be ready and waiting for this release.
Siobhan Davis
Charlie
Let me tell you I think I fell in love with Charlie. He is soft and hard all at the same time. I know when this releases on its own ill be reading it just for the extended epilogue. Charlie first captured my interest in Kai and Abby’s story and I have been chomping at the bit to get his story. IT DID NOT DISAPOINT. I love how she intertwined the Kennedy world with this world. I am looking forward to soooo much more. I love this author.
C.M. Stunich
Devils Day Party (Time loop)
While I have other stories sitting on my kindle from this author I have yet to read them. That changes now! This short snippet was amazing. I have already set this to preorder for release day and I can not wait to delve fully into this.
Callie Hart
Riot House
My first read ever by this author and she has managed to hook me into this story. Can not wait for April and this book to release. It as well is preordered.
Coralee June
The original Bullet
Again another will be reading series. Im very intrigued by these characters. Also a first read of this author.
Kaydence Snow
Like you Care
This will go onto my TBR, it was not my favorite short story in this book but it was still on par with the other writers. Ill read more. I will also look into the Authors other books and read them too.
I wasn’t sure of this book from the start. However the more I read the more I liked it. Ill bite and read more. Im left with my interests piqued.
Over all I have to say this anthology did not disappoint. I found new author I like and am looking forward to reading more from them. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did.
Review for Charlie by Siobhan Davis
Five stars!
Oh Charlie…. how I hated you, how you mad me so completely mad prior to this read. I thought you were selfish, crazy and honestly I wanted to slap you. Now, after getting your story, now that I understand you more….. I am totally in love with you.
This is one of those feels books. You know the ones. The ones where you experience all those crazy feelings. I went from mad, sad, my heart hurt and in the end, happy. I really enjoyed Charlie’s book and I’ve loved this series. This can be a standalone but why limit yourself, it’s really a great series with wonderful characters.
Review for Prequel to The Boy on the Bridge by Sam Mariano
Five Stars!
Ooooo this is good. Just enough of a taste to get us ready for The Boy on the Bridge. We are introduced to Hunter and Riley. Who are both great characters, who are going to give us an outstanding bully story. We get the back story and this gets us prepared. It left me sitting on the edge of my seat wanting more. Can’t wait!
Review for Like You Care by Kadence Snow
This is what I love about anthologies, you are introduced to great authors that you may have not found another way. This is my first read by Snow and even though it’s a introduction to the book, it was enough to pull me in. This isn’t the typical bully read where the guy bullies the girl. No, this is a great example of what a lot of our teenage girls are going through in general and I love that this author is addressing it. Can’t wait to read the rest.
