For twelve long years, I’ve breathed, I’ve bled for only one thing… men…they’re now three. The fourth—he is the reason they call me Bullseye. They can run, but sooner or later, I’ll find them, just as I did with their friend. They’re already dead…they just don’t know it yet.
My plan was simple until I met her. A fierce tiger who had the power to break my heart. Lucky for me…she can’t break what’s already broken. I am no longer a man because the world is a jungle, and we’re all just animals—ready to tear one another apart.

After over ten years of incarceration that began at the young age of seventeen, Bull (aka Bullseye) has been released from prison. He’s on a mission — not to walk the straight and narrow path, but to get revenge on the four people who’s actions put him in prison. I have to admit that perhaps the circumstances warranted some sort of revenge but what Bull has in mind will put him back in prison … or worse.
Lily, aka Tiger Lily is an exotic dancer. When Bull gets a job at the Pink Oyster where she dances, she’s immediately drawn to his tatted up bad boy looks and his mysterious demeanor. This may end up being her downfall as they play out their kinks with each other. Their on-again / off-again relationship really pulled me into the story.
The ending of this first book in the duet exposes some incredible coincidences (or are they? I’m not sure yet) and really sheds a lot of doubt on the longevity of Bull and Tiger’s relationship. There’s quite a few unresolved issues by the end of the first book that had me scratching my head wondering how things could ever work out between these two characters who seem to actually be perfect for each other. Things get quite steamy with between Bull and Tiger but there are many obstacles in their way to their happily-ever-after. I’m really interested in reading how this story resolves some of these issues.
So overall, a good start to the duet. Bullseye sets up some very difficult situations for the finale, and I just loved that about it. I’m still not quite sure how I feel about Bull and most of the time, I’m thinking Tiger Lily should just pack up and move away, so that makes it all the more fun to see how Monica James is going to wrap all of this up.
“Like a butterfly, she is so beautiful, but all I want to do is tear off her wings.”
Wow. Just.. wow.
I always come into a Monica James book with an open mind because she has continuously screwed with my head every single time I finish one of her books. Bullseye is no different. I am completely and thoroughly mind blown.
“I’m an undeserving, vile monster.”
Bullseye is dark, dangerous, gritty, and gruesome. There are no rainbows and butterflies in this story. There are no good guys. Just a bad man with a vengeance.
Bull lives and breathes through his revenge and he will get it, whether he lives or dies once it’s met isn’t the issue. He won’t stop. He refuses to.
“Her touch both subdues and provokes my demons all in the same breath.”
I am in LOVE with Lily. She is FIRE. Her personality is one that I love. She bows down to NOBODY. She refuses to lay down and take it. Her wit and her mouth fuel Bull’s fire and his burn for pain.
Monica always leaves me wanting more after I finish a Sorry. Even if there is a happy ending. Bullseye has no happy ending. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. It’s dark with no end in sight.
“His darkness dances with mine.”
But even the villains deserve to have their story told.
I hope you guys love Bull as much as I do. I’m ready for more Monica! When’s book two coming?
I try to go into a book knowing as little as possible about it. Often it’s the author, the cover, or the little bit of information I may hear about it that intrigues me and makes me want to read it. Bullseye had all of that! It had an intriguing story about revenge. I loved how the author brought these two characters together. And toward the end when a big piece of the puzzle was revealed. One thing I was missing, that I have read in similar stories of revenge, was a heart stopping, jaw dropping beginning. I missed having something that just sucked me into the story. We do get that in this story but it just comes later. Overall, I am intrigued with the story and were it is going to go. The writing was great. I am on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what will happen next!
Raw. Gritty. Passionate. Spellbinding. Unique. I could go on and on with the first word that comes to mind when I think of Bullseye by Monica James. You have a story that is circled around revenge but also this stunning part of where that someone who wants your dark and your torture and cover them with it. That magnetic draw between Bull and Lily is evident right from the start. But the draw between them is so much more and honestly it is jaw dropping. The darkness that is within Bull is from such a heartbreaking place. While he feels he is the monster, he is really the one that destroys the monsters, even though he doesn’t see it that way. Lily is such a fighter. Especially with everything that was thrown at her. How she fights to survive for not just herself. She has a fire within her that makes you root for her the whole time.
The one thing I can say about this story is that the flow and concept will wrap you up and completely engulf you into the world that James has created. You want to claw your way farther into the story to get more of the details while the twists and the wow moments hit you so hard. This book is absolutely stunning. I need the second book. James has a gift with words and everyone needs to experience the worlds she creates!
Dark, twisted story full of revenge and angst…Add in hot, bad boy (definitely bad when served 12 yrs in prison for murder)…And you have book 1 of The Monster Within diet “Bullseye”
In my first attempt at reading Monica James, I was so not disappointed in this story. Her two main characters were so full of depth that I had to pause to remember these were fictional characters. The two main characters are Bull/Cody…he was recently released from 12yr in prison for murder, but he was definitely not reformed as his first thought out is revenge on mind. Then there is Lily…she’s a full time dancer/stripper trying to be best single mom to her son, dealing with sadness her true love/father of son took off and even her close brother abandoned her too. But both of these characters make the best of what they are left with.
The tension as well as passion between Bull and Lily is very dark and can be considered rough and brutal. I would highly set a warning to readers that some scenes in Bullseye are disturbing, but to me it only added to the realism of the situation of these characters. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book as well as this author…And so can’t wait till April for book 2 Of this duet to find out what will happen next as Bullseye ends with quiet a cliffhanger.
Once again, I’m left speechless.
In fact, I don’t think I could form a coherent thought right now, even if you paid me a few million. So… this review might take me a while.
Ok, let’s go.
2019 was the year I got introduced to dark romance: I immediately got hooked.
Monica James was the one to pop this metaphorical cherry of mine, like a boss – or should I say – she was the one who kicked down the door and sauntered in like she owned the place. And she did this three consecutive times: each book from the “All The Pretty Things Trilogy” is a stake through my heart, a punch to the gut, a kick in the shin… you get the point.
It destroyed me every single time and I still craved more.
Needless to say that every dark read after that would inevitably be compared to its predecessor simply because that was my only point of reference. And mind you, the comparisons were never about styles of writing or overall quality: they were purely based of “fuckedupness”. Yes, I just made a word up, deal with it.
How messed up can it get?
How hot and filthy and wrong and primal and mind-altering… how low and twisted, how much depravity can you handle? It’s never enough.
Thankfully, I’ve yet to become jaded, considering each dark book I read still leaves me slack-jawed.
I just don’t know when the unintentional draw of parallels will seize.
All that being said, if I now tell you my mind was still very much attached to Saint and that I kept juxtaposing him and Bull, you might understand my better and maybe even forgive my transgression.
Bull and Saint share similarities but that’s not the point.
An oversight on my part led me to predict that glimpses of Bull would be few and far between for the first couple of chapters and that he would be a conundrum, because that was my experience with Saint.
The thing is, that wasn’t Saint’s story to tell, it was Willow’s and how their paths eventually crossed. He was mysterious and unreable because that was Willow’s point of view.
This is Bull’s story, through and through.
He’s the one guiding you through his life and the circumstances that triggered all the main events.
Only then, and because life is cruel as all f-ck, Lily’s path crosses Bull’s. And everything goes kaboom.
Lily’s also a lot different from Willow and I’m loving the dichotomy. Unlike with Willow, you don’t get to witness Lily’s life drastically take a turn for the worse because when you meet her, her luck has been dealt a long time ago; she’s been rolling with the punches.
She immediately recognized the danger to her sanity, of the man that entered her life, but she didn’t care and took the bull by the horns – no pun intended.
She saw him and unapologetically took what she wanted; all the warnings sirens be damned.
I’m loving the explosive dynamic and electrifying chemistry between the two of them and it only can lead to one outcome: me, internally screaming and rocking maniacally back and forth in a corner until book 2 arrives. Oh, and some really interesting scenes and plot twists for our characters. You thought I was about to spill some knowledge, spoilers or predictive considerations? Ah, got you.
As I mentioned previously, Bull and Saint share similar traits, one of them for sure: no matter how wrong and misguided their actions might be, they do what they need to do, and they do it out of love, which makes them better people than they realise or might want to acknowledge. It makes them flawed. It makes them human.
After reading the last chapter, I can only hope for the best. Or the worst.
Who am I kidding? I’m relishing at the thought of a pissed off, brutal, uncaring Bull and all that entails, because now you really provoked the beast.
And who else is ready to see Lily kick some MF ass? I know I am.
In conclusion: Monica James, you freaking rock. You totally and completely knocked it out of the park, again.
Now, don’t you dare make You-Know-Who a redeemable character. If anyone can do it, it’s you, but I’m don’t think I’m ready to fall like that. You’ve been warned.
And I guess, now we wait.
Rate: 4.5 / 5 stars
Wow wow wow. Monica James never fails to reel me completely into her stories. Bullseye was different than I imagined it was going to be… I was so pleasantly surprised by this story. It was intriguing, compelling and oh so delicious. Bull won me over… his darkness was all centered on getting revenge for someone he loved and I was rooting for him from the beginning.
Lily was the perfect woman for him… their darkness calls out to one another and when they are alone in the room oh boy *fans self*. These two were deliciously dark and sexy and so made for one another. I cannot wait to see how their story will unfold after all those big revelations. They didn’t have that surprising factor for me because I actually saw that plotwist coming from the very beginning but it did not affect how I read the story nor how it all unfolded… even knowing what was about to come to light, I was still very glued to the moment and how all the characters reacted to learning the truth. I’m quite curious and scared about what will happen in book 2… I want Bull to get his revenge but I also want him to get the girl… I’m just not sure how he’ll be able to get both.
Bull is out for revenge and gosh my heart hurts so much for the boy he once was and what that boy watched but it also hurts so much for the man he is today, the man who lowered his walls, found love and had his world shattered again. I want to so bad for him to get his revenge. His targets deserve what they are about to get and I really really hope they get his wrath. Gosh I am still kind of reeling over that ending and all the possibilities of what will go down in book 2. I need that book now!
Think dark and dangerous. Think mind games bordering on insanity. Think hotness reaching nuclear explosion level. And Bullseye by Monica James is all of the above and the some more. Get your seat belts on because this is going to be one raw, depraved and outright sinister ride.
Cody Bishop aka Bullseye is finally free after twelve years of hell in prison. And his only aim is taking revenge on his brother’s killers. Jail life has transformed him into a tattoed monstrosity with demons haunting his mind and rage fuelling his body. But he did not know a certain brunette ballet dancer with innocent face, pure soul and deviant heart will throw all his plans away. The story takes sick twists and turns and finally leave you at the cliffhanger of century. Those last few pages made me want to throttle the author!
Cody Bishop or Bullseye is a complicated character. He is scary, cold and ruthless. He is a killer but only for his own mission. And I found his darkness fascinating and so charming. Because darkness, when well written, can claim my heart and soul. And Monica James did that. He is so cold and cruel and merciless but you will see glimpses of a golden heart. But make no mistake, he is a bad bad boy. Tigerlily or Lily is attracted to his distorted way of connecting. Her life is a mess. Single mother without support. Barely making any money by teaching ballet and stripping. But she refuses to go down. And it’s astonishing that she still wanted to be Bull’s friend. Their lives have been intertwined since years but they will face the devastating consequences now. They will be torn apart even before they come at terms with their feelings. There is something oddly endearing and enlightening in the violent and bloody ways their body and souls connect. I am completely engrossed and I cannot wait to see where they go from this destruction.
Monica James has delivered an impeccably written dark romance in Bullseye. The broken and perfectly imperfect characters. The jaw dropping, breathtaking and captivating story line. All kinds of explosive, dirty and intense feelings. And an unputdownable dark romance is born.
Received ARC for honest review
ARC was kindly provided for an honest review)
Monica James is a new writer to me and this is my very first read of one of her novels. Yeah, I know… what rock have I been living under…
“I like the thought of seeing you beg…seeing you bound…seeing you bleed,” he concludes, while I swallow past the lump in my throat.
“And what if I want that?” I ask, skating closer and closer to the gates of hell as I get lost in his eyes. “Be careful what you wish for. I’m not the Prince Charming in your story.”
She warned us it was going to be dark, “CONTENT WARNING: BULLSEYE is a DARK ROMANCE containing mature themes that might make some readers uncomfortable. It includes strong violence, possible triggers, and some dark and disturbing scenes. This is the point of no return because now, it’s time you forgo what’s left of your soul…”, but I seriously wasn’t prepared for how good it was going to be!
Bull is everything you want and expect from a dark Hero. He’s a tough, emotionless badass, with huge psychological issues and only one thing on his mind – REVENGE! The first time we meet Bull is on the day of his release from Kinkora Correctional Facilities in Detroit, after serving a 12 year sentence for murder. He has a carefully thought out plan that he has been perfecting whilst he was behind bars, and that is to find the bastards who murdered his brother and kill them, end of story. But best laid plans don’t always go as smoothly as planned. There are always unforeseen and unexpected obstacles that seem to find themselves in the way and Bull’s obstacle came in the form of dancer, Tigerlily.
Lily has had a really tough life. Suffering from abandonment issues, she has had to rely on herself to get through hard times. As a single mother, she’s had to work two jobs to provide for her son, and keep him off the streets and out of trouble. One night whilst working at the strip club she meets Bull or shall I say, she was rescued by Bull after a client got a bit rough with her. I love the way she describes of him…
“He is tall, mysterious, and smells like a juniper dream. He’s covered in so many tattoos, and I have the urge to study each one, hoping they will shed light on just who this man is. His hands and fingers are inked, and so are his arms, which I saw today as that tight white T-shirt clung to his muscled body like a second skin. The intricate tattoo on his neck consists of two skeleton hands clutching either side of his neck. They appear to be squeezing his throat tight.”
This isn’t your normal romance story, in fact there is no romance in it at all, but there is definitely hot and explosive chemistry between Bull and Lily. The book is very well written with loads of twists and turns in it, some you see coming and others, not so much. All in all you will be left with a feeling of wtf just happened??!! when you come to the end of the book and read it’s unexpected cliffhanger.
Seriously people, READ THIS BOOK! It is definitely one of the best releases for 2020!!
Seriously… seriously? Monica James!!! What have you been eating?? You are on FIRE!!!! I just don’t know how you do it! Your stories are just getting better and better. Every book I’m like… there’s no way she can top this. But I’m wrong. So very wrong. Because you completely blew this one out of the park. It was beyond amazing! Just everything about it was on point. The alpha, the intensity, the suspense! Wow! Plus, that ending! O.M.G!!! I CAN NOT WAIT!!! I just KNOW you are going to follow that up with something epic! I am going to be dying.. dying while I wait for book 2 in April!!! Anyone looking for a scorned brother looking for revenge… Bullseye is a MUST!!!

5 Venge Filled Stars!!
Yes, be warned this moment that this is a duet!! This is a story of REVENGE. MURDER. WANT.
Bull’s life was shredded and destroyed by his brother’s murder! He is fueled by hate and revenge. This is a dark, dark romance. You don’t go into prison and leave the same man. You come out a monster! Then in the midst is Lily. She is everything he is not. Everything that can cure and destroy. Ahhh it’s so good!!!
Be ready for massive twists, turns, turbulent emotions, and lots of steamy heat! Clearly, Monica is trying to kill us!!! Lol ENJOY!!! I can’t wait for Book Two!
BULLSEYE by Monica James is the First book in The Monsters Within Duet Series. This starts the story of Bull ‘Cody’ and Lilly ‘Tiger’. Bull is out and looking for revenge for what happened to his family. Set to destroy and work toward his revenge he doesn’t have time or want for a women that could slow down his goal. Lilly is a single mother on hard times having to do a job as a stripper to make ends meat. She meets Bull who she knows she needs to stay away from but neither are able to stop their feelings for long. This book does end with a cliffhanger to set us up for the next installment in this duet.
Ohhh my bejeezus
An outstanding read , this book takes you on a journey of emotions you will scream and shout, and laugh and definitely cry and finish the book on a huge gasp!!!
Your heart bleeds for the story of bull who’s only goal is revenge and death….and
Tiger the beautiful dancer who’s only goal is survival…
“His darkness dances with mine. I can feel it”
I went into this book not really knowing what to expect, exactly how I like it ,but wow I didn’t expect that !!!!
A highly addictive book that sinks in its claws and takes you on a phenomenal ride …I cant wait for the next ……
Her hero was nothing but a coward and thus her fairytale came to an end, and her dreams shattered.
The love of his brother brought him to his knees and his life to a standstill.
But now it’s time to stand tall, take hold of the reigns, and own destiny.
A slow building read of survival and revenge.
So much anger, and hatred desperate for a release. His darkness is carved into the bones of him, and used not only as a tool but as a form of protection too. The boy he was died when the world he knew ended.
He’s not your average bad boy that’s for sure! he’s a man with a plan, who’s hellbent on executing it no matter what.
She’s never going to be where she wanted to be and even though she’s not at peace with her life she accepts it for what it is.
But within her is a fire that’s beautiful especially when it flares up!
She’s very much like her name a ferocious beast one second but full of grace like a flower in the wind the next moment.
They share a heart that’s a shade of darkness but is that enough?
I didnt love him, but I dont think I’m meant to, but at the same time I didn’t hate him. I’m pretty much sat on the fence about my feelings, and I’m not entirely sure what it will take to change that.
It’s taken me quite a while to read this, alot longer than most reads this size because I couldn’t concentrate and what I was reading I wasnt taking in.
I found I had to reread quite a few segments but overall it’s a good solid start to the duet.
Raw
Violent
Dark
And oh so sexy.
Darling, I couldn’t get enough. I couldn’t get enough of Monica James’ words and her great story building. Of the darkness Bull cared with him.
‘The monster within’ is truly the phrase that captures the essence of Bullseye.
Once again Monica James captured me and I will never let go.
Bullseye is the dark romance story you have been waiting for.
Fresh out of prison and ready to end a lifetime of anger. Bullseye, a tormented character that knows more flaws than it knows qualities. He carries pain, anger and violence in his heart and that all made him cold or almost dead inside and that all because of something that happened in his past. A thing he can’t and won’t let go. A fuel that keeps him moving and the only way to let it rest is by taking care of the root of it all.
Straight away he meets Tiger aka Lily. A woman he had no need or wish for, but still, she ends up being of importance in his story. And thank god she’s because these two created the fire and let it burn until the end. Dark, but sexy. This attraction that sparkled and was unanswered for a long time until it just snapped.
But she too struggles in the world and even when the Bull isn’t the man she dreamed of, he does awake strong feelings inside her. Their relationship is a push and pull fueled by desire and something entirely else. Complicated and intense, but still a connection both of them can’t deny. And it’s that connection that wasn’t in Bull’s plan.
Only a great writer can truly capture the details of a character on paper. We’re not giving the images, but Monica James created them for us and once again I was deeply sucked into her story. It played like a movie in front of my eyes. Skills, talent, and a wonderful imagination is what created the dark story Bullseye.
Twists and turns and an ending that left me gasping. I’m still not over it and I can’t possibly wait for the next one. Monica James keeps on surprising me and her kind of writing is what we need in a sea of books.
If you are looking for a book that will have you pulling your hair, look no further. Monica James writes and delivers the things I and so many readers dream of. It’s dark beyond words, in-depth and just a great storyline. I’m pretty sure my impatience will not let me sleep until the next one hits my kindle.
Holy!!!! Monica James strikes again!!! I thought I knew what I was getting myself into but oh man! I knew nothing! Bullseye is an epic, bloody, twisted masterpiece! With a cliffhanger that’ll leave your jaw on the floor!
I will be the first to admit this is not my typical read, but I could not put it down once I started. You get thrust into Bull’s world at the beginning and you just have to know his story and what happened to him.
This book was in my opinion very graphic but that made it different from a lot of books that do not go into so much detail. It causes the reader to feel like they are there and experiencing the emotions.
The book ends on a slight cliff hanger which I expected would happen.
It will also leave you conflicted about the complex character that is Bull & if in the end his revenge is warranted as the web just keeps spinning and spinning. Monica did a great job with this story & I am anxious to see how it ends in book 2!
I had to read this book in one sitting because I was intrigued by it, it sucked me in and it was incredible, this author has become one of my favorites when it comes to dark books!
Wow, wow, wow! Bullseye is a dark, raw & gripping story. It is Bullseye and Tiger Lily’s story.
Bullseye is emotionally cracked and all he can think about is the revenge of his brother. He is after the 4 people that murdered his brother and attacked him. Bullseye went to prison at a young age because he did get revenge on 1 of the 4. Now he is out of prison and now he is after the other 3.
Tiger Lily is her stage name. She is not a stripper she is a dancer first and foremost. Tiger is what Bullseye mostly calls her. She is drawn to Bullseye and he to her. He does a real good job of trying to push her away and to stay focused on his revenge but even he has a tough time staying away!
There is a HUGE twist in their story! One that I didn’t see coming! One that will break either of them or both of them! I CAN’T WAIT for the second book!!!! I need to know what happens next!
