I am not ready for my BKI boys to me over! I know I know…these stories live on outside of these books. But no more action packed BKI heroes is a tough ill to swallow. I’ve been reading them from the start and Walker always manages to paint such bad-ass heroes. Good thing she saved the baddest of them all for the finale; Angel Agassi. The Iceman. The man without emotions…or so we thought!
BKI has been hunting the infamous Spider for months and are sure they’ve discovered his true identity when a ghost from Angel’s past haunts the screen beside the Spider. Sonya was an agent Angel dealt with in another life. He fell for her, but in order to stay true to his beliefs in protecting his people, he had to give up everything, including Sonya. Now under the Spider’s roof he has to feign indifference as her very image is right before him and her scent is jut as tempting as it was years before. But he wears a different face now and even the woman of his dreams doesn’t recognize him. Its a tough desire to defeat, but Angel can’t jeopardize this mission and risk the lives of thousands all for a shot at forever with Sonya.
Sonya is intrigued by the Prince of Shadow, aka Angel. After spending days with him she’s reminded of Mark, her past love, in his mannerisms and even some of his tells. But the man she loved is dead and the monster in his place is cold and distant. Until one night and one kiss sparks a memory… Now on the run these two have to decide who to trust and where to turn as lies become truth and secrets come to light. Filled with non-stop action, Walker knocks it out of the park with this finale! Angel has always been stone cold and mysterious and watching Sonya slowly crack his shell an reveal the loving man inside was so perfect!
The sides story of Ace and Rusty was so swoony! I really wanted these two to have their own book. There’s something about argumentative couples that just makes the book a lot more interesting and hilarious. Having Ozzie there to break their sexual tension was hysterical! In the end, a sneak peek into all of the BKI crews live and futures was a beautiful send off to this amazing action romance series from one of by auto-buy authors. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store!
An enthralling, exciting, and emotional ending to the epic series. We get not one but two happily ever after’s – if not a dozen – with lots of intense suspense, up close and deadly battle, drama, trouble, and turbulent relationships. But also we get to witness the kind of soulmates that have a lasting connection that holds despite the circumstances or years apart, forgiveness and redemption, new chances and benediction, a fervent devotion that took my breath away.
Angel has been an intriguing character in the series for some time now. He has been like a shadow coming and going in the dangerous situations in the previous books, spiking up my curiosity about him, his past, who he is now, and what had brought him into the folder of the BKI. His story turned out to be so much more complex and rough around the edges than I imagined. Years of living and existing under different covers and made up personalities have shaped him to be the person he is today. But those years have not shaved off his basic loyalty, dignity, honor, the need to protect and serve, or the love he has for Sonya Butler.
Sonya has mourned for the loss of the love of her life for ten years. While grieving and trying to move on, she has excelled on her career at the Interpol, always standing up for the law, rules, and regulations. So it is a wonder what she is doing working for and with the dangerous crime lord, in what seems like a very close relationship.
While Ace and Rusty both admit the palpable attraction they have for each other, Rusty is not ready to come out of the closet and tell his parents about being gay. The strain from the rejection, from the burning, forbidden desire, from the fear and hurt of having himself or his feelings shunned takes a toll on both Ace and Rusty, as well as the team working with them. It comes to a near-death situation until these two brave warriors dare to face the deeper emotions and desires of their hearts.
The secrets, the layers of deception, the danger, the deadly force of the attacks, and the ruthlessness of the villain gave not only deeper depths to the tale but also searing, fierce tension. Add to that the two parallel love stories, with jilted hearts, hurt feelings, fear of acceptance, and rejection, and the knowledge that this will be the finale, the crescendo of the epic series, and I was on pins and needles through the tale.
If you want to binge-read an intense romantic suspense series with deadly danger in fierce, hazardous international situations, that is mixed with ardent, heartfelt, passion-filled romance, spiced up with quirky humor, fun banter, held together by tight teamwork, a large family of hearts that would do anything to each other, to protect each other, and the country they serve, Black Knights Inc. will definitely deliver.
Powerful, unforgettable, unputdownable saga of legendary warriors, of their lives, loves, and battles for justice

All good things have to come an end, I suppose. And what a great trip we had with the Black Knight Inc guys! Angel’s story is every bit as delicious as the previous books: full of suspense, romance, sexy times and hilarious inner monologues. I liked that the final scene in Angel & Sonya’s story resembles the very first one, Nate & Ali’s. The immense relief and letting go of the pent up anxieties made these tough as nails guys fall onto their knees in front of their ladies. A wonderful conclusion to a very entertaining series. On that note, we got closure for all of the couples that have been featured. Thank you, Ms Walker, for that. And for the little heads-up in the epilogue for possible things to come. As sad as it feels to say good-bye, I am sure, there are many more exciting stories that want to be told. I for one am keen to tag along the next adventures!
Another addition to this series that is filled with drama and excitement. This one has secrets that are part of the stuff that keeps you onto these pages. One thing about love you can not fool it for long and secrets can be uncovered. This one is centered around Angel and Sonya. They will be the ones that keep you on your toes and warm you up. This also has other angles that will have you going with a well rounded read for sure.
The problem with a Julie Ann Walker book is that once I start reading I don’t want to put it down. (This is only a problem because I have to do mundane things like go to work on a regular basis.) Built to Last is no exception. I was hooked in the first few pages and very reluctant to put it down. While I hated to see the BKI story come to a close, this was the perfect ending. I can’t wait to see what Walker has next. If history repeats, I won’t be able to put a new series down either. If her epilogue is any indication I’m all in and can’t wait!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
I have loved this series , and even though this one was not my favorite story , the guys at BKI will be missed.
The book centers around Angel Agassi and Sonya Butler .
Angel had to changed his look and identity but never forgot his love for Sonya. The one he left when he chose country over love.
It’s an engaging story filled with suspense, danger and lots of bad guys. But it’s also a story about second chances in love . We get the opportunity to visit with the rest of the BKI men and women we came to love .
Thank you Ms Walker so such a great series.
I received this copy from Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Sonya has been sucked into the dark, murky underbelly of the Spider. Once a shining star with Interpol, she now acts as Spider’s arm candy and assistant. She is rocked to the core when the mannerisms of the newest “recruit” in Spider’s web of blackmailed minions reminds her of her lost love. But Mark is dead and has been for a decade.
Angel Jamin has inserted himself into Spider’s inner sanctum as part of the operation by BKI. He is unsure as to whether Sonya has actually gone to the dark side or if like his cover story she has been blackmailed. As the story moves from the UK to the Middle East and beyond, Angel and Sonya grow closer but Angel is never just himself around her, because then he would have to reveal that he was Mark and that he was “killed” in order to undertake a long term mission.
What a superb finale to the series! Mark/Angel is so conflicted – he wants to reveal himself but knows Sonya will hate him. He also wants her to love him for who he is now rather than the rose coloured memories of Mark. All my loose ends were tidied away and I truly enjoyed seeing Ace and Rusty interact and their love/hate in/out the closet relationship sizzle away.
I really want more from this series cos I love it so much but who knows what the future can bring??
Angel works for the BKI group and after a mission went wrong, he had plastic surgery and changed his name. He once worked for Mossad and was known as The a Prince of Darkness. He goes undercover to stop a madman the Spider, from selling uranium to Al Queda. Sonya worked for Interpol and still misses the love of her life even after ten years. She helped a jewel thief get away and the Spider has blackmailed her to be his assistant. When she sees Angel, there is something familiar about him but it can’t be because her lover was killed.
Now they are hiding from the Spider and waiting for their back up to come to their aid. While hiding in a very old circus school, Angel convinces Sonya to give them a chance. When she finds out some disturbing news about Angel, can she forgive him or will she lose the first man she has loved in ten years?
Ms. Walker always packs her books full of action, suspense and steamy sex. This is the last book in the BKI series and I’m sorry to see it end. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley *
This highly anticipated book is a complete adrenaline rush! It’s so exciting and engrossing that I could not stop reading until the end – it’s that good! I highly recommend reading the entire series to get the full scope of the plot in this last book of the series where everything comes to a head and there is more than one happily ever after.
The characters are so well written that you feel what they feel and they run the gamut of emotions. Angel and Sonya has a past that is being tripped over in the present. How these two try and navigate a relationship while taking down a criminal mastermind is just as intense as the action of the story – which is brillant. It grabs you in the first few pages and never lets you go.
I absolutely loved this book and the BKI series!
Great ending to the Black Knights series of book. This book finishes with Angel and Sonya’s story as the main romance and Ace and Rusty’s romance is tied up as well. Angel has been this enigmatic figure in some of the prior books. He is ex-Moussad agent who has had plastic surgery on his face and his vocal chords scraped after his faked death. He has been working deep undercover for the past ten years and is now working with the Black Knights to take down Spider, a super villain. Spider has taken the bait the Black Knights have thrown out about Angel and he is being “forced” to work for and live under guard with Spider. Sonya is ex-Interpol and the love of Angel’s life prior to faking his death. She is also being blackmailed by Spider and living under the same roof. She doesn’t recognize the man she loved, since he is visibly altered, but is drawn to him. Will they survive? Will they save the world from a terrorist attack? Will they bone while on the run. You will have to read it to find out. Loved the side story of Ace and Rusty too. This relationship has been building for a few books, and it was nice to see them get their happily ever after too.
Loved it and the series.
Loved this book. Julie Ann Walker has a great turn of phrase and in fact “before you push that bullshit log out of the face anus you call your mouth” had me cracking up. All kidding aside., I’m sad to see the gang at BKI go. I loved the ending and was glad for the little “epilogues” for each character. Jake and Ghost will always be my favorites but I looked forward to and devoured each book. I started this series with a freebie and iBooks and discovered a new favorite author. There was romance, excitement, and humor. I cannot wait to see what comes next for this author.
This was a great series to read. Really liked the characters in these book and it really hit on things that can happen in this crazy world. Well worth the reading of this series.
Julie Ann Walker is a excellent writer and hopefully will continue to write these kind of books.
Finally, Ms. Walker has given us the highly-anticipated story of the mysterious Angel. Before now we have only gotten brief glimpses of him as he assisted the other Knights’ escape from whatever dangerous/seemly impossible situation of the moment.
It was no surprise that Angel (and by extension Sonya) found themselves in an exciting situation that wrapped this series up nicely — while letting us readers revisit with the whole black Knights crew.
This book resides on my favorite (likely to reread) shelf. Recommend for fans of Romantic Suspense.
