This was a cute and easy read. There were some annoying things that were written but overall it was a book I would recommend to someone just looking for a light read. Definitely great for a quick read on vacation (or on the way to vacation).
This book was a good solid read. I’d totally try another future book by this author!

I participated in #CozWeek2020 hosted by one of my favorite booktubers – Courtagonist. I saw one of the other participants post about this series in our Cozy Mystery Facebook Group – and realized I had the first and second book on my shelves. I took my time reading this because I was really enjoying getting to know the characters.
Katie moves from my neck of the woods (Ohio) to Georgia to open the Honeybee Bakery with her aunt and uncle. She soon learns that magic runs in her family and explains a good deal of her past. Before the bakery even officially opens, a curmudgeonly woman has words with Katie’s uncle…and he is implicated when she winds up dead.
I loved getting to know Katie, Aunt Lucy, Declan, Steve, Detective Quinn, and the other characters. The author did a great job of balancing the paranormal and mystery elements and they worked really well together. I thought there were just enough twists thrown in that I wasn’t completely sure of who the bad guy was and I love when that happens.
This was a fantastic paranormal cozy and I am really looking forward to starting book two!
I purchased this book and am voluntarily sharing my honest review, not influenced in any way.
I wholeheartedly believe what Aunt Lucy believes – there is a little magic in all cooking! This was a really fun read; wonderful characters, great recipes (seriously make the cheddar sage scones from the back – they are delish), dueling suitors with a history all their own and a ‘book club’ I would love to be a part of. I have really enjoyed all the series I have read by this author by all of her names (Bailey Cattrell and Cricket McRae) and this one is no different. Can’t wait to read the rest in the series!
Another good, engrossing, unguessable cozy mystery from the Magical Bakery series by Bailey Cates. In fact, the first book in the series, though I read the second one first. The one that introduces Katie to her new home in Savannah, her good witch coven, her familiar, two romantic interests, and the powers she never knew she possessed. And I can’t wait to read the rest.
This book kicked off one of my favorite cozy mystery series.
I like a little supernatural thrown into a good mystery, and this was a great mix for me. Katie Lightfoot didn’t know she was a witch until she moved to Savannah to open a bakery with her aunt and uncle. Now, she’s baking up a storm for their new business and she’s a witch in training. The five-women coven are a treat, all unique characters for the story. And I really liked Katie–except that I thought she was a little harsh with poor Quinn, who’s trying to solve the murder that pegs her uncle Ben as the main suspect. I’m not a big fan of love triangles, but I liked both Declan and Steve. I always love food and cooking woven into a mystery, so the baked goods Katie made each day made my mouth water. A fun first book to start a series. And who doesn’t like a cute dog as a familiar?
