Three heart-stirring tales where fate brings together strong heroines and even stronger heroes.Teach Me to LoveIzzy Lawson has taken her last abuse. When her husband dies, she has a choice to make: go home and face the family who made her stay with the beast, or head to Belle Fourche to the only friend she has left. The reserve she’s worked so hard to build crumbles in the verdant rolling hills, … crumbles in the verdant rolling hills, and in the arms of a man so different from her husband.
Conrad Oleson can’t read, and it’s shamed him for longer than he can remember.
When another teacher shows up on his front step, he’s sure his brother is meddling again. But when Izzy reveals her painful past, he can’t stay away. And if learning to read brings him closer to her, he’ll do about anything for her. Including, teaching her how to love.
What the Heart Holds
Arnold’s first love died in the Cheyenne river.
He’s sure he’s had his one love. To guard his heart, he wants nothing to do with women. No one could ever compare to his Lynellen. He will work hard, be respectful, and never forget.
Stephenia is the new teacher in Belle Fourche when she almost meets her Maker.
Arnold saved her life, and maybe her heart. She’s avoided relationships her whole life, afraid of the pain of loss. When she finally gives up on him, he has to choose between the love he’s lost and the one who found him.
Deep Longing of the Soul
Eli Oleson killed a man.
Never mind that he did it to save the lives of others, it’s eaten his soul to shreds. Nothing matters. When he injures himself breaking a horse, he has little reason to recover, except for the feisty English nurse who keeps pestering him.
Anne Hammond is a skilled nurse, trained in curing the sick and treating the wounded, but some wounds don’t heal as easily.
She’s seen war and heartache and left England for the American west to forget the images that haunt her. When a cowboy, broken in more ways than she can see, winds up on her examining table, will she be skilled enough to assist in his healing? Or will his wounds only open the ones she thought she’d left behind?
Don’t miss these sweet, western, cowboy romances bringing love from loss.

What the Heart Holds is a wonderful Christian Romance from Kari Trumbo. The characters are fun, interesting and lovable. The plot is unusual for that time period as Stephenia was actively pursuing Arnold. This was a refreshing change and made the book a bit humorous. This series – The Brothers of Belle Fourche – is well worth your time.
Deep Longing of the Soul is a very emotional and engaging story. Both Eli and Anne carry guilt about someone’s death. They need to find the strength to let go of the guilt and learn to be happy again. This is the story of their struggles. I read it straight through because I could not put it down.
Testament to Tenaciousness
Everyday life, for most folks, creates enough stress; now move back to a harsher time when basic needs like water, food and shelter could be problematic. Emotional issues? Put them on the back burner because We.Don’t.Discuss.That. In these three novels, author Kari Trumbo explores the needs of three brothers and the women who touch their lives. Each volume is written to stand independently as a strong story, but enjoyed together they present a moving testimony to resiliance and the power of love. [Note: I’ve also reviewed each story individually, as I read them (not, initially, in order!) as well.]
All three of these stories are awesome!
Very simple, but the drama is deep. The evidence of faith and family is AWESOME!
In Teach Me to Love, Izzy Lawson was broken by her husband who belittled and controlled her and took from her the one thing she never knew she wanted when he killed their unborn baby. Conrad Oleson is ashamed that he could never learn how to read and his wrangler Stan took advantage of that until he goes too far. After Conrad fires him, Stan tries to kill him several times and uses Izzy to get to him. I felt for Isabelle feeling that she wasn’t attractive because she had been put down so much. And for Conrad feeling that he wasn’t good enough to help run his family’s ranch because he couldn’t read. They helped heal each other broken parts and find the happiness they deserved.
In What the Heart Holds, Stephenia Ford has hero worship for Arnold Oleson ever since he helped save her from the kidnapper at the school. She spends the summer walking to his house to give him a sweet roll from Isabelle’s bakery at the expense of not having enough money to buy food. It isn’t until she realizes that he doesn’t return her feelings and that he has never gotten over the young lady he loved who died in the river years before that she turns away from him. It isn’t until she stops coming around and another suitor starts calling on her, that Arnold starts to realize his feelings for her. But he doesn’t really act on it until he almost loses her to the river too. Arnold acted as young as her immature suitor did at times, telling her what she was doing wrong, not treating her like a lady, and not passing on her need for more wood because he was so focused on his competition. Stephania should have swallowed her pride and admitted sooner that she didn’t have enough food to eat and wood for heat. They both had some growing up to do in this story.
In Deep Longing of the Soul, Eli Oleson can’t get past killing a man even though he did so to save the women that would one day be his sister-in-laws. Nurse Anne Hammond can’t get past the guilt that one of her patients killed another man in a fit of jealously over her. She is tasked with taking care of Eli after he is attacked by a wolf when he was angry and reckless trying to break a horse on his own. Taking care of him brings back bad memories for her. They help to heal each other, but their path to romance is far from smooth. They both have to forgive themselves first.
I listened to the audiobook version of this set and really enjoyed it. I loved the stories so much and I was really bummed when I came to the end of the third book. I am definitely using my next Audible credit on books 4-7!
Brothers of Belle Fourche: Books One through Three was a great read by Kari Trumbo. This box set consists of; Teach Me to Love, What the Heart Holds, and Deep Longing of the Soul. These books followed Conrad, Arnold, and Eli Oleson; brothers who find love. I really enjoyed these books and can’t wait to read more by Kari Trumbo.
I listened to this in audible…I loved, loved, loved this series!! Of course with the amazing Kari Trumbo with her special talent for enthralling the reader, I was mesmerized. The narrator was perfect and made me feel like I was there with his different inflections for each voice. These brothers each had their own great personalities and their ladies also. Do not miss a minute of these stories. I know I will revisit them in the future. As soon as one ended I could not wait to hear the next!
All three of these compassionate romance stories have something in common and that is hope for a wonderful future as a married couple.
They also show the struggle that a man and a woman could go through while fighting the love that is building between the couple.
These books are written with such feeling that I found them a real pleasure and couldn’t wait to finish them all. The characters are quite realistic and the situations believable.
Of course, the remarkable voice of J. Scott Bennett also had something to do with my enjoyment. He really has a ‘very listenable to’ voice and knows just how to use it to help make these stories more entertaining.
I requested and listened to the audiobook version, thoroughly enjoyed them and my voluntary review above is given freely and is unbiased.

Kari continues her tales with this connection book to Sparks in Spearfish (Seven Brides of South Dakota Book 5). This is Izzy’s story, (Paula’s roommate from the Spearfish School). It’s a beautifully sweet story of self worth and true love! A great Christian focus on healing with His power! Kari’s books are a wonderful way to see America in all it’s Historical glory!

Kari does a brilliant job taking misunderstandings, and blowing them so far out of proportion, that they make for a great story! I love that Stephania starts out chasing Arnold!

A heartfelt emotional story about healing physically and emotionally! Kari really gets to the core as these two self created outcasts find solace and love in each other! Wonderful!!
Scott did an amazing job narrating this series! His voice and tempo is well suited for books set in the Old West!
I was given an audiobook copy from the author. My reviews are voluntary and my own.
