Nothing stays buried forever… predecessor was buried alive—and accusations are flying faster than broomsticks. Despite her editor’s orders to leave the story alone, Zoe can’t resist.
From the front-running witch with a secret to the mysterious vampires pulling strings in the shadows, Zoe knows the truth is just under the surface. So after she discovers she has rare telepathic abilities, Zoe realizes she’s the only one who can keep digging.
Will Zoe’s powers lead her to the murderer and the scoop of a lifetime? Or will they send her to an early grave?

If you enjoy books with magic, murder and mysteries then you will want to read this story.
Zoe is a delightful character with a nose for a story and a stubborn streak.
This is my first book by Ms. Webb and I like her ability to weave an interesting tale.
She brings a young character Zoe with a lovely cat named Luna and she becomes roommates with a fairy named Flora. The best bit she has a “gift” that awakens once she arrives in Moon Grove.

I’m so glad I found this book. It was cute, fun and very entertaining. Zoe has amazing powers and I can’t wait to find out about her lineage. Everyone needs friends like Flora and Luna.

This is the first in the Magic and Mystery series of witch cozy mysteries. If you like witty witches, catty talking cats, and magical murder mysteries, then you’ll love this lighthearted debut in Lily Webb’s spellbinding series. The protagonist Zoe is strong, intelligent and witty, she finds herself immersed in a world of magic and paranormal beings that she didnt know existed till she took a job she didnt remember applying for in Moon Grove N.C.
I really enjoyed this book, there was Mystery as well as Magic! There were lots of twists, turns, and laughs throughout, I found myself not wanting to put it down. At one point I dozed off with book still in hand only to start right back up at 3am as I had to find out who the killer was. The characters are well developed and story well written, I highly recommend to fellow Cozy Mystery fans who enjoy a bit of magic and paranormal thrown in. Cannot wait to read Spellbooks and Stakings (Magic & Mystery Book 2)

This was a great book. Zoe is an unemployed reporter who gets a job she doesn’t remember applying for and is immersed in a would of magic. There are witches, fairies, vampires, werewolves and her snarky talking cat. She investigates the death of her predecessor against the wishes of almost everyone and along with way gets some training for powers she didn’t know she possessed. What I enjoyed most is the strong story line; Zoe is solving the murder in a magical environment and uses magic to do it but there is a balance between the mystery and the magic. The characters are well developed and the dialog well written. I look forward to the next book.

This started out really amusing, quickly drawing me in with the authenticity of the Southern Grandma, then kept me around for the know it all talking cat. It doesn’t shy away from making ALL the puns, constantly. But then the story just started to feel clunky, like someone trying to shove certain plot requirements together without giving adequate motivation/character development to anyone. I tried to push through since I’ve heard good things about this series, but ultimately decided to drop it for now. DNF at 30%
thr book is ok. a quick read, a vacatioin if ypu read bppls that male ypu think. don’t really remember it that well, i’ve read a few since then. iti isn’t among the books i’d buy based on author alone. my husband bought similar books and said they were fun, so i saw it, and it was ok
This is a fun book to read.
This was a quick read and has a bit of mystery to go along with a magical world.
Zoe goes to work on a newspaper in Moon Grove. She finds that the former reporter has been murdered and more murders are to come. The book abounds in witches, vampires, shapeshifters, and a talking cat. Zoe finds that she has magical powers by which she solves the murder(s). Of course there is a budding romance. No bad language or sexual situations—it might be appropriate for middle school.
Of course this is the first in a series and as with many of these e-books, the editing leaves a lot to be desired.
It has been a while since I read it. I would read additional books by this author.
I’m sorry to make such a bad and harsh review because I assume this was written by a child, and didn’t realize it was geared towards a younger audience even though it came up in my listings. But it is terribly written. I find it VERY hard to believe there are over 61 4 star reviews.? There are so many glaring common sense mistakes I got tired of listing them out and these are just a few from the start that just can’t be missed. I’ll not bother with my number one complaint of the constant repetitiveness of the character’s comments. The main character is a reporter and knows about Hogwarts but doesn’t know what a ‘familiar’ is? A 3000 sq foot apartment (that’s huge) with only 1 small bathroom-really? LOL She was unprepared at seeing the beautiful fairy “with wings”; and why not elaborate more on the beauty? In one paragraph the roommate is carrying on a conversation fixing her robe then next paragraph it says the roommate suddenly is wide awake-was she sleepwalking and talking before? Then there’s the missing words and extra words. Just because this was listed free or even .99 cents doesn’t mean you should kick out a story after the first writing and not bother to go back and re-read it.
I liked this whole series. Really enjoyed ll three books
