UNBELIEVABLE!!!! GRIPPING AND REALISTIC! Another masterpiece by Pywell.
Sad that this is the last book in the series. BOO HOO, BOO HOO…..
This story will keep you on the edge of your seat. What happens to the ‘Parks’, poverty and an election year. All seen every day and everywhere. If you are not touched by this story then I will have to wonder about the state of your heart and brain.
As usual, you can observe the amount of research that is obviously put into this book and every one in this series. If you have read the previous books: I highly highly and definitely that you go back and start from the beginning. I have read them all and am always blown away by them.
All that said, it is hard for me to say if you can read a standalone. It can be done but I feel that you will miss out on some character dynamics, but then you will go get the previous books. I know because I have read them all and it took me a bit to remember. It took me till the mention of the ‘Ruby Pear’ to remember that character.
When I started this series, I had a vision of where MIkky would end up. The author even asked me what it was, but I declined and said I did not want to influence Mikky. I can say now that she did not end exactly how I had pictured but still somewhat of what I had in mind.
Again wonderfully written and well researched book. Hard to Thoroughly enjoyable and hard to put down.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
I apologize for the lateness of this review.
What a great action packed story! Janet Pywell out did herself with “Broken WIndows”. The story starts out with a with the main character Mikky dos Santos running for her life up many flights of stairs. At the top of the building she is caught …….You’ll just have to read what happens because I didn’t know if it was a dream or real, and if real how does Mikky survive?? If feel that Janet Pywell poured her heart into this book, she made the story so exciting and believable. I became so engrossed with Mikky as she became attached to the homeless children and her determination to help them escape the horror of slavery for a drug lord. And the ending, I could not ask or believe a better ending for almost all of the characters. Bravo Janet! Wonderful finale to a great series.
The Mikky Dos Santos series have all been great reads, and this one is no exception, indeed for me it’s the best of the series.
Mikky gets involved with a group of young people from a safe house run by the Dixon Trust, which specialises in helping street kids. This particular group have formed a parkour (free running) team, called ‘The Parks’ which is being used by a film company. Some have been rescued from a cult-like group that uses a dagger as symbol, the members of the group have this dagger tattooed on their chest.
The story gives a very believable insight into the world of drugs gangs and the work of organisations who try to help the victims of the gangs, although it is never preachy.
The suicide of one of the members of The Parks has such an effect on Mikky that she will do anything to bring down the gang, and its mysterious leader the Asian.
The story moves almost as fast as the freerunners of The Parks, and Mikky needs to be at the top of her game, especially when her bosses at Europol tell her that it is out of their jurisdiction, and there is nothing they can do to help her.
The author always manages to create great, unorthodox characters and as a skilled forger and art thief, heavily tattooed and unpredictable, Mikky Dos Santos is certainly memorable and her friends and associates are also very well crafted and believable.
It is difficult to categorise this book, to call it a thriller is to understate its other aspects like romance, detective work, mystery and even a smidgen of undercover agent which are all parts of the tapestry that this book forms.
The book even has a surprise ending to add to the twists and turns of the rest of the plot.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, but have voluntarily written this honest review.
