Magic isn’t Taken—it’s Inherited.Eighteen-year-old Meena Song wants a normal life with a normal job and normal friends. Well, that ain’t happening. An unbelievable secret is revealed in the worst possible place—a public bathroom. Yup, gross, but still not the strangest thing she’ll see today.Who gets invited to a magical academy if you have zero magical ability? Meena does. Witches and wizards are … Meena does. Witches and wizards are real, but most of them are a-holes. Now, she has to figure out why she was brought to this prestigious manor in the woods, filled with lies, clicks, and one incredibly hot jerk that Meena can’t seem to avoid.
Broken Wand Academy shares the same universe as Marisa Claire’s Academy of Shifters series. There’s more to this world than you can possibly imagine.

A great beginning. I need more. Come see what’s going on with Meena at Broken Wand Academy.
I received an ARC of this book.
A very short yet highly entertaining, action packed, emotionally thrilling and heart racing adventure filled with interesting charters, magic and mystery… really enjoyed this journey and look forward to what happens next.
This is a quick read, but I enjoyed it so much. I loved Meena’s debut into the Broken Wand Academy. She’s sarcastic, sassy and had me in stitches laughing. I can’t wait for more!
This story has a few elements that are vaguely Harry Potterish: a trio of new friends, a bully, and classification by aptitude rather than house. But the similarity ends there. Meena is a young, college age adult with a living parent. She has friends outside the magical community. And the school is not nearly as safe as Hogwarts. Fast paced with an abrupt cliff-hanger type ending.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.
This is a magical story geared more toward young adults. Meena Song works at The Quaker Diner as her friends prepare to leave for college. Her father doesn’t have the funds to send her anywhere so she will be staying home and working her way through the local college. But as she is working, a strange man appears at a table in the back near the bathrooms. She offers to pour him some coffee and they both engage in a conversation about college. He tells her he can get her into a very prestigious university at no cost. Suddenly she is whisked away and finds herself at The Broken Wand Academy to learn about magic. She finds that she has a very rare kind of magic she inherited from her grandmother. The most exciting part of this magical episode is what follows as Meena discovers how powerful her magic is. No spoilers here but I believe this story would be most enjoyable for any young adult who loves fantasy with magic.
I have never read an episodic novel before, so this was intriguing!!
Meena is a recent high school graduate trying to live her life after her grandmother’s death. She is soon thrust into the world of magic, which she inherited from her grandmother once she passed.
I loved the way this story unfolded. It thrust you into Meena’s mind and her turmoil of emotions as she tries to navigate through finding out her inheritance. Though the story is a little slow to unfold, once it does, you don’t want it to stop.
Being episodic gives this the feel of a show: it gives you a cliffhanger that just wants you to keep reading. I cannot wait to find out what happens next!
Disclaimer: I received a review copy from the author
Meena vaguely remembers helping her grandmother with rituals, but fer father put an end to her participation. She has a weird encounter with a strange man in the diner where she works, and is suddenly, magically transported to the Broken Wand Academy an exclusive school of witchcraft. Meena isn’t sure she wants to stay at the academy but is swept along in the various proceedings to introduce new students to the academy. When Meena awakens in the middle of the night, and sees people sneaking into the woods, she decides to follow them to investigate.
Fantastic world building, in a fast paced, intriguing plot with some surprises. Unique, and “bewitching” characters that I am looking forward to getting to know better. Wow, I loved this book!
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
Is Meena safe at the academy? On the verge of starting college, Meena is suddenly kidnapped and taken to Broken Wand Academy and told that she is a witch. But Meena has never had any powers and always thought her grandmother’s stories and potions were just crazy. She has to decide whether to learn about her magic, or return to the real world and her friends. But there are mysteries at the academy. About her powers, why two of the professors deny knowing her grandmother, a murder of a student, and the mysterious hooded people sneaking into the woods at night. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
I love reading the different twists and turns authors weave into these academy tales. Sometimes the MC is aware of the academy’s purpose, and many times not. This is one of the latter. Now, many readers don’t really care for similar points such as these, but I actually enjoy seeing an author’s ingenuity bloom. Book one has definitely been well thought out, leaving crumbs here and there about possible avenues this tales may take. The characters are developed, yet there is always more that needs to be discovered, whether it’s from the past or just present growth. And yes, to ensure a following, if written carefully, the ending leaves you searching for book 2. Off to load it in lol. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
Book review of broken Wand Academy: Episode ms 1-4: Wands and Witches by Jenetta Penner, David R. Bernstein and Marisa Claire
Episode 1: A Curse of Magic
Meena Song had no idea she was anything but a “normal” person who had recently lost her Grandmother. Having just graduated from High School she was preparing to start Community College while living at home with her dad.
Plans change when a strange man pops up in the Diner she works at and tells her she is going to Magic College.
Things go FAST FORWARD after that. She gets a roommate, has her Magical awakening, takes a trip in a tub full of water, finds out she is powerful and almost dies. Not bad for 2-3 days at College.
Received this as a Advance Reader Copy with the hopes I would like it and review it.

Great start! Meena’s introduction to the world of magic is sudden and embarrassing. But with her new friends, she jumps in with both feet. A great start to what looks to be an interesting story.
You’ll love this series it written young adults of all ages.
The story is well written and flows seamlessly. I recommend this series to all.
I received an arc at no cost to the Authors.
Meena thinks she’s a normal human, but while at work, she gets sucked in to world of magic. She is told that she has magic, but she thinks it’s a joke. She’s offered a full scholarship to this school & isn’t sure she’ll attend. When she’s relaxing in the tub in what would be her dorm room, she transports, tub & all, in to the dining hall. What a way to find out you actually have magic & no idea how to use it. The next day all new students are chosen for their major. Meena is the only one left at the end. She finds out that what she is extremely rare. She’s not to study one specific area, but all of them as her magic is that strong. She then finds out that she isn’t the only one currently at the academy.
I did enjoy this story, but I would have liked to have a little more backstory in to Meena which is why I rated the story at 4 stars. The plot was very interesting, but there were questions left unanswered.
At first it seems like all the other academy books, BUT you are quickly dropped in a new sort of storyline with a unique refreshing take on magic. As always the shortness puts one star down, but in no way reflect on the contents! It’s good and you want the next part immediately to tie up the questions you find….
Imagine Your Life Turned Upside Down – By Magic
I was gifted a copy of Broken Wand Academy: A Curse Of Magic. It is the sort of escapism I gravitate to in order to relax!
Meena has an ordinary life until she loses her Grandmother…and inherits her Grandmother’s magic! This is the beginning of Meena’s new life as a witch, which necessitates her entry into Broken Wand Academy. Like all schools, it has bullies and cliques, but magic and secrets also live there. Join Meena as she embarks on her new life!
This is a great first episode to a new series. There is tons of mystery and magical. I cant wait to see how Meena adjusts to her new world.
“I voluntarily received this book for an honest review”
I am not normally a fan of episode series because I am impatient and do not like waiting for the full story however this story is worth reading and worth the wait to find out what happens next. I enjoyed the characters and the world it is set in. I am anxiously awaiting episode 2
**I reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**
3.5 Stars
I’m not sure if I want to read the next book!?!? The last chapter was the most entertaining part of the entire novella and I really enjoyed it, but all the boring bits has me wondering if it’s worth continuing
I received an ARC of this story from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Word of warning on this, if cliffhangers bother you, don’t read this! It is most definitely an episodic style book, you are not getting the whole story in one book. That being said, I enjoyed this more than I thought I would since I hadn’t read much in this style before. The beginning of the episode is definitely a little bit slow, but it’s necessary world building. It really gets interesting right before the end and definitely left me wanting the next episode! I am very interested in finding out where Meena and Braden end up in this adventure!
This is a very good start to the series. It leaves you wanting to read more.
She is pushed into a new magical world without any training or knowledge of magic. It really gets her into some trouble especially when it turns out she has some strong powers.
I like the potential of the romance with the mysterious student who shares her strong talents. He has quite a background and I look forward to reading more about him.
