2016 SIBA HUMOR AND NEW ADULT WINNER!“Guitar Face rocks!” She Hearts Books BlogI was born to make music and bring the masses to their knees . . . until, I wasn’t anymore. Until the thought of doing all of this without him made me sick to my stomach.Henley Hendrix survives a crash that kills her closest band mate. She’d like nothing more than to retire from music, to hide, to heal, to disappear. … retire from music, to hide, to heal, to disappear. She’s tried. But her family is music royalty. Her brother is a rock star in his own right, and every friend she has is connected to the business one way or another.
I’ll get sucked back in. I’m scared I won’t survive rock-n-roll again. Won’t survive Jagger, won’t be able to put him back in the box.
Jagger Carlye is Henley’s dirty little secret. Rock god, her brother’s best friend, part of his band, and someone who loves the guitar as much as she does. Henley’s loved him since she was a girl, but there are some things you don’t do in this world. One of them is that you don’t risk your brother’s band or your heart in an industry that feeds on rejection and scandal. Love might not be enough in a world that grinds you down and puts you in a fishbowl.
And then there is Kip. My best friend, a drummer who never shuts his mouth. I should’ve fallen in love with him. My world would be so much easier.
Henley comes back to the world of rock-n-roll, puts a toe in the water, and creates a ripple that will rock the safe little life she’s created for herself.
NOTE: This is a rock star romance series with a strong female lead, bad boys, and rock romance. If you are looking for a story of redemption with comic relief and a heavy sexual mind, you’ve found it. If you are offended by hot, tattooed rock stars, who are vulgar, then this is not the book for you. Please be warned, this book is not for anyone below the age of 18. The book contains sex, death, violence, and harsh language.

“You hurt, cry, bleed, laugh, get angry, and, most of all, you love. You aren’t broken, baby. You are human.”
I can’t resist a guitar on a cover or in a title. I’m rockstar romance addict and I’ve been lucky enough to find some amazing new authors this way. Broken is a perfect example of an amazing story discovered by accident.
While the story includes many rockers, the story focuses on Henley Hendrix. It’s a heartbreaking story, but it also made me laugh and love. I enjoyed going back in time with young Henley as she discovered music and learned to play the guitar. She let me inside her head and I fell for Jagger right along with her. I also fell for her besties, bandmates, and her family. It was so much fun hanging with all of them… until her world exploded.
My stomach rose to my throat at the drop from the cliff that I wasn’t expecting. I felt like Hen when she attempted bungee-jumping, but I wasn’t given a “Three, two, one, go!” Nope, I was pushed kicking and screaming toward the cliffhanger ending and I still haven’t caught my breath. I wish I could stay and chat, but I’m heading for the next book in the Guitar Face series and I won’t be available until I turn the last page. See ya there.
OUTSTANDING!!! I wasn’t sure how to start off with this review because it was so good that I wanted to catch anyone who liked rock romance books and had a chance to read this, to do so. This is the first time I read this author and I can only hope that she will put out more rock romance series.
This book had me all over the place with emotions and believe me Ms. Marshall took you there to the max. I will start out on the lighter side; when I look for a rock romance book I wouldn’t necessarily be drawn to it if someone said it had humor. I’m sure changing that opinion now after reading this book. It not only made me smile but had me outright laughing on some of the dialogue. This humor was throughout the book and wasn’t just some little snippet.
Another aspect of the book that I liked was how she brought in the real life rock bands and famous people and did so in a way that didn’t seem just like name-dropping. By the way I really like Seether too so that made this all the more fun for me.
Now for the harder part…there were some terribly gut wrenching parts in this book that I don’t think I will forget anytime soon. Again, whether you like it or not you can feel the emotions of Henley when she has to deal with her best friend and their accident. I have to say that I actually had tears running down my face at some of this. Ms. Marshall had Henley dealing with this for quite some time and it made it seem more real because we know that when something like this happens in real life you don’t get “over it” within 1 or 2 chapters time.
And for those of you who like a little “spice” with your rock romance books, Ms. Marshall sure delivered on that aspect also. I would love to meet Jagger myself! The relationship of Henley and Jagger was one that had you rooting for them and would make you wonder what you would do if in Henley’s situation. I also loved the relationship of Henley and Koi and with Kip’s sense of humor you grew to love these people.
Ms. Marshall would be someone I definitely would want to hang out with because if she can write with this sense of humor I can only imagine what she is like in real life! Now I’m off to read the second book in this series because I have to find out what that phone call was about!!
Wow this book builds you up, crashes down on you, and brings you back again!
Henley has built herself into a Guitar Goddess but her life takes a downward spiral but Jagger brings her back and helps her come back but that is short lived. Just when you think it’s going to calm down it ends in a cliffhanger..nooo
First time reading this author but since I love this kind of romance, in I went with high hopes for a good story.
Broken had a bunch of ups and downs in it for the leading lady in this book, Henley Hendricks. I sometimes felt there might have been previous books that related to this series that I didn’t know about and therefore hadn’t read. It didn’t bother me much, just made me curious.
Henley had her world shattered and heart was broken and put back together somewhat a few times in this book. Good thing I can handle a bit of angsty drama but with that said, there was plenty of fun and humor mixed in as well! A nice balance.
I LOVED the musical aspect of these rockers and good friends lives, as I always do with rockstar romance. There were a few songs here that I wish I could’ve heard in the voice of the characters. I really enjoy hearing the meaning behind their words as it relates to their lives and loves. To me, these little gems are some of the best parts of rockstar romance.
Speaking of loves, Henley has her share between friends, crushes and eventually, her soulmate that she loved from afar for most of her life. I begin to wonder as the book gets close to the end…will she get to keep him after all?
This ends with a killer cliffhanger which I think I figured out, but not sure if I want to face. Gaaahhh, book 2 and more angst, I hate you but here I come anyway!!! Someone get the defibrillator ready, I might just need to be revived! Can my heart survive this series?
This is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last. This book is one roller coaster ride of emotion. I couldn’t put it down. I laughed, I got pissed, and man did I cry, like where did the tissues go kind of crying. My fiance kept asking me what was so funny when I laughed.
Henley is a nice woman who has been grieving her best friend/ bandmate for years and decided to return to live and not just survive.
Henley aka Guitar Goddess is the prodigy guitar player. She comes from a line of guitar players and musicians. Henley’s grandfather is her inspiration including his friends. They taught her to play, she had her own band by a young age and they are all her childhood friends. They made it in the music industry on there own merits.
The love story between Henley and Jagger is a slow-burn for a bit, then you get to see them fall in love and it feels amazing.
My only issue with this book is the damn cliff hanger! I would definitely recommend this book.
Thank you to Silver Dagger Book Tours and the author for the copy as part of the blog tour.

How the hell did I NOT write a review after read this last October – Maybe it was I NEVER read anything like it, or I has such a book hangover that my mind finally cleared (ok that’s a bit of a stretch) I have read hundreds of books since the
80’s and I will say I can count on 1 hand how many stories have stuck with me as this one has. This is the beginning of an amazing journey and be very thankful you do not have to wait for the next one.
Real characters you will want to hang out with (among other things – Jagger OMG)- Real situations – Real life and it ain’t pretty, but it is brilliant. Do not pass this series up
