“you have the heart of a warrior. The soul of a priestess. The heat of a long-burning fire.” – Bruiser
Broken Soul is book eight in the Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter.
A lot happens in this novel. Many changes, revelations, and secrets come to light.
Early in the series the blood diamond came into play. There’s always someone who knows about it and wants to get their hands on it. Jane has it hidden away for now. The plan was and is to destroy it, but that hasn’t happened yet.
If you are expecting The European Council of Mithrin Vampier’s to show, they don’t make an appearance yet, but our gang is getting ready for their arrival.
As I said a lot happens in Broken Soul to give Jane and her gang a run. Just because our Euro vamps aren’t here yet, doesn’t mean they aren’t planning and interfering.
We get a lot of developments in Broken Soul. Eli and the Kid, Alex, continue to be fun and an entertaining presence in Jane’s life. They are changing her and becoming family. Jane and Beast also go through some changes and character growth. Then we have Bruiser our love interest. I wasn’t sure on him, but I did/do like him so much more then Rick. Rick is and will always be an dush. I’m happy to say I like how Bruiser is winning Jane over and focuses on both her natures not just one or the other. He truly sees her.
Broken Soul was an entertaining and enjoyable read. I took a break from this series and after reading a little short story in the world I felt it was time to dive back into Jane Yellowrock and see how things turn out for our gang. I wasn’t disappointed.
Rated: 4 Stars
Just another day in the world of Jane yellowrock and it’s quite entertaining as usual, non stop action..and a little arse kicking
faith hunter does not write about Jane Yellowrock quickly (often) enough for my family. we devour her books and want her to write as quickly as we read. of course, we know she can’t; writing is harder. but we can wish and hope. i don’t give book precis when i write reviews. I’m telling you why you should read, not what it’s about. you should read this book if you like action, adventure, vampires, vampire hunters, shape shifters, and fun.
Faith Hunter is simply INCREDIBLE! It is obvious she has taken a lot of time thinking about this series. Each book is well thought out. She doesn’t rush, goodness love her. This book was a bit easier on the nerves than the previous one but that didn’t make it a pushover. The vampire politics come from Europe and bring a level of complexity to this story that was astounding. Great listening as an audiobook with the very wonderful Kristine Hvam narrating.
I Jaya hard time jumping into a series in the middle. This was s fine book as a stand alone but it was clear that I was missing a lot of nuance.
One of my favorite authors. She never disappoints. I can’t think of one book in this series that was not great
Easy 5 stars for one of my favorite series and characters
I love all the books in this series. I wish she wrote faster!
I own and have read all of Faith’s books. Entertaining, page turner and keep reading until you finish it. A strong female antagonist without pretentions and with snark.
This is maybe the 8th book in the Jane Yellowrock series. The series is holding up pretty well.
I have read the entire series and I loved it the characters were well defined, Jane Yellowrock just climbed off the page and was an ass-kicking wonder, you will fall in love with her. This series is a must read. I highly recomend it.
I love all Faith Hunter books.
Love Jane Yellowrock!
Have read all this author’s books, love them all!
I like the I/we voice of Jane Yellowrock as a skinwalker. The interweaving of other lore throughout the story is also a draw. Started the series with a later work, but am still able to enjoy the books out of sequence.
Absolutely super read.
I have always liked Faith Hunter’s book. I like the paranormal genre and she is consistent in her character development. It is both easily read and detailed to make it interesting. I liked Broken Soul
I own all these books and eagerly await more from the author…
Jane Yellowrock is awesome. This series never disappoints.
Seriously. Best urban fantasy I’ve read in years, possibly ever.
