Broken Rules
The Rules Series, Book 1
By: Hanleigh Bradley
Narrated by: Shelby Hughes
The first book in the Rules series, we are treated to Aurora and Landon. Each have their own set of rules they have been living by, and now are breaking them all. Aurora, always the good girl has made the decision to start living by her own rules, not her parents. Landon keeps all women at arm’s length, but there is something about Rory. Chemistry drives this story, and lets us take a trip with these two as they discover each other. Family secrets revealed, only each other to confide in, it’s a great beginning and I can’t wait to see where Bradley takes us with this couple.
Shelby Hughes gives a good performance. At times its had to determine who is speaking, but she does capture all the feelings and emotions of the characters. I do wish it was with a British accent, as the writing reflects the London brogue.
My first story by this author. Her writing style takes some getting used to. Reading the same scenes from both POV’s aren’t usually a problem unless the dialogue is just used verbatim in each POV. The author did this frequently and I found myself skipping ahead to not re-read something I just read. That being said, I liked the story line. Aurora decides it’s time to spread her wings and Landon seems to be the perfect person to help her do that. I’m not sure I love Aurora but I do like Landon quite a bit. Will I finish the series? At some point I probably will as I want to know how this story ends (because it did not end in this book).
Broken Rules by Hanleigh Bradley is the first novel by the author and the first novel in the Rules series.
Broken Rules follows Aurora Stone who has had enough living up to her parents’ expectations and rules. So she decides with the help of her friend, Lou to write down all the rules Aurora wants to break. While at the bar, a handsome and mysterious guy stars at Aurora.
She throws caution to the wind and strikes up a conversation with the man. He too has a set of rules that he finds himself about to break. Landon Peters is the type of guy that doesn’t let anyone in. He never dates a woman more than once. He never brings them home and he never calls them again. But instantaneously he finds the rules easy to break once Aurora is around.
Landon takes Aurora home and they both find it hard to resist the temptation. Aurora soon realizes that she might be in way over her head, but doesn’t want to stop being with Landon.
I think the story was good. I personally liked the conflict that Aurora and Landon had with their respective families. Although they had only known each other for a time, they confide in each other. They take each other out of their comfort zone. Aurora and Landon are good together, even though they don’t know what to describe what they are. They continue to break all the rules and enjoy doing it.
Broken Rules is sexy, intense, and fun. I can’t wait to see what is in store for these two.
Be it Landon’s self-imposed rules or the rules set forth by Aurora’s parents, these two set about breaking as many as they can.
Intimacy outside of marriage?
Sleepovers?
Dates?
Feelings? Oh yeah. That’s a
It’s an interesting story. I didn’t like when the clock rolled back and we “relived” the moments from the other POV, especially when there wasn’t much added to moving the story forward. Other than that, I like the story and characters and look forward to seeing what the next installment brings them.
When it comes to the narration, Shelby Hughes is good as Aurora but Landon’s personality needed a deeper, more masculine voice.
Story: 4 stars
Narration: 3.5 stars
Pros
The book is overall well written with fully developed characters.
Cons
This would have been better with a londoner narration or accent instead of an american one. The narrator didn’t fit the book style.
I have to say that I didn’t care for the repeat of the same scenes from each of the characters pov. Normally I love that but it has to be done right and this author unfortunately didn’t get it right with this book. Instead of enhancing the story experience it just made it feel repetitive and drawn out. I had to fight the urge to skip chapters or ahead.
I also found the virgin first time scene to be unrealistic. He was all crazy and rough her very first time and she loved it? and then no mention of blood or nothing? I feel like if he seen that she was a virgin and was all crazy rough with her he would be very upset with himself that moment right after. and because she was a virgin and it was her first time and he was super rough then there should have been blood.
Captivating from the start. I felt like I couldn’t put it down. The story just seemed to flow with every page and had me guessing from the start. I loved the story between Aurora and Landon and the chemistry they have for each other and the rules they want to brake along the way. I can’t wait to read the next installment to see what will happen next.
This was a great start to the series! Hanleigh is still a pretty new author to me and I was excited to take a chance on her contemporary romance series. I liked the dual POV, steam scenes, and characters within this story.
Everyone sees Aurora as picture perfect and she’s sick of not being able to live her life the way she wants. Landon doesn’t see the same woman twice, doesn’t date, and is seen by most as heartless. Both Aurora and Landon have their own set of rules and they find themselves breaking them for one another. The chemistry between Aurora and Landon is explosive and it’s nice seeing them both out of their comfort zone. Their story has so much potential and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Stacy did a good job with the narration. I liked how well she voiced Aurora and brought her character to life, but I feel like her male voice for Landon was forced and gravelly. I also thought it was an odd choice to use an American narrator instead of a British one since the main characters are British.
*I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I really enjoyed this book. A lot of fun but also serious. Rory and Landon have both a lot if questions and family issues to go through.
I just have to find out what will happen next in this serie.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Plenty of angst, emotion, chemistry, and passion can be found within this great introduction of Aurora and Landon’s story. This is a fantastic read that really hooks you. A life full of rules and control gets turn upside down and makes for a really intriguing really. The book does end on a cliffhanger. I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased, honest review.
Broken Rules, by Hanleigh Bradley, is the story of Landon Peters and Aurora Stone, both from similar families with similar backgrounds and wealth. Michelle Stone has ruled over her daughters in more ways than one. She has rules that have to be adhered to in order to stay safe and not risk losing her love and attention. She has already alienated her youngest daughter with her unbending demands and Aurora knows better than to challenge her. Landon Peters is a brilliant, sexy, billionaire CEO of his own company and lives by his own set of rules. He does not have time for love, but that’s not to say that he is averse to bringing home a beautiful woman. She can’t stay the night, but they can enjoy the evening. He’s not looking for anyone, so that’s not a problem…until he sees Aurora with her friends across the bar. Their attraction is immediate and it doesn’t take long before they’re leaving the bar together. Talk about breaking rules! That’s exactly what they do, over and over again. It’s funny, it’s sweet, it’s hot and it doesn’t end! Landon has never broken so many rules in one day and he doesn’t want to stop. They are perfect together and we watch as things become more and more serious. But Landon’s father is dying and his mother has a secret that will shake him to the core. As the story ends, Landon is facing the fallout from his lunch with a guilty mother. Well-placed cliffhanger!
I really enjoyed this book. This isn’t typically what I read but it was surprisingly hit and engaging. I like the characters a lot and look forward to seeing what happens next.

Part of a Series: Book 1 of The Rules Series
POV: Aurora and Landon
Steam Level: toasty

I don’t know how to describe Broken Rules. Landon is a man who has rules, rules to maintain his control. Aurora is out to break the rules she’s lived by her entire life, rules that were placed upon her by her parents. Landon and Aurora shouldn’t mix, but they do. Add in family drama, money and appearances and I’m not sure where this series will end up. This story kind of plods forward at a steady pace, but also goes back some when the POV is switched so that you can see both POV’s for the one event. It’s different but not unwelcome. Overall Broken Rules is a fun story and I look forward to seeing what will happen with Landon and Aurora and their both their family’s secrets.
I received this audiobook for free from Audiobooks Unleashed. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Broken Rules by Hanleigh Bradley is a Contemporary Billionaire Romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Shelby Hughes.
This is the third book of Hanleigh’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The story does end on a cliffhanger but that was no surprise since it’s the first book in The Rules Series. I cannot wait for the second book Enforced Rules to be released on audible.
Shelby did a good job on the narration. I liked that she used different voice/tones for the characters. The only thing I wished is that the narrator could have done the British accent for Landon.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Contemporary Romance, Billionaire Romance, or steamy Romances.
This is the first book in The Rules Series, a steamy contemporary romance. Aurora and Landon’s story is interesting. They are opposites attract, and they share an instant attraction, and a sizzling chemistry. Aurora is a good girl, who has always followed her parents’s rules, until she decided to break them. Landon is a control freak. He has always followed his own rules, until he met Aurora. The storyline is steamy, and filled with secrets reveled. The story ends abruptly, and will continue in the next book in the Series, Enforced Rules. Shelby Hughes has a great voice. Surprisingly, the characters are from London, but the narrator doesn’t use a British accent. Despite that, she did a good job with the narration. #AudiobooksUnleashed
What amazing short story that has amazing writing style. This is the first book I’ve read by this Author..
So what happens when a good girls turns bad and decides to rebel…? That’s for you to find out fellow readers
A romance book fill with laughs, love and emotions but ends with a cliffhanger which takes its readers on a rollercoaster ride.
This is my first read by Hanleigh and it will definitely not be my last book from her
I love this book! It really has an amazing story! I love Aurora and Landon, they are fantastic characters! The narrator’s voice for the audiobook took a few minutes to get used to, but she is really good! I cannot wait for the next book!
Aurora was the perfect daughter. Her parents gave her a set of rules to live by. no sex before marriage, no one night stands, etc.,
and she followed them all, until she met Landon Peters at the bar.
Landon has his own set of rules, one date only, don’t ask personal questions, no overnights. He never broke his rules, until he met Aurora. in this story, both have a different set of rules for dating , but end up breaking them one by one . Landon and Aurora are opposites, but they are perfect for each other as they explore breaking the rules together. Its, sexy, refreshing and it ends in a cliffhanger.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story narrated by Shelby Hughes. I was gifted this audio and offering my honest review.
Broken Rules by Hanleigh Bradley
Landon and Aurora each have lived by a very strict set of rules. Aurora is ready to break free from her rules and Landon cant seem to help himself when it comes to Aurora. Their connection is very intense. I really enjoyed the story.
Looking forward to more from Hanleigh.
Love this story of how Aurora and Landon who are use to following the rules break everyone. Aurora is so genuine in her relationships with her friends and Landon. Great start to the series
