“She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight.”Single-minded drive earned Roland Miles success—and cost him his first love. When his marriage to Zoe ended, he did the only thing he knew. He dove into work to put his heartbreak behind him. Zoe Sutton’s life hasn’t exactly gone to plan. She certainly … exactly gone to plan. She certainly didn’t plan on losing Roland or moving home to work for his family’s winery. Four years after their divorce, she wonders if her chance at happily ever after is behind her.
After discovering his family might lose their land, Roland comes home to help sort out the mess. But between his brothers’ antics, a baby sister who’s all grown up, and a father keeping secrets, complicated isn’t even the half of it.
And then there’s Zoe.
He didn’t come home looking for a second chance with her. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes what they lost. What they could have again.
Because the truth is, they broke each other’s hearts. And maybe they’re the only ones who can put them back together.
Author’s note: A stoic hero who’s soft on the inside. A sassy heroine who doesn’t take any sh*t. Messy family. Lots of shenanigans. Mattress burning bonfires. And a second chance at love with a big HEA.
The Miles Family series are best enjoyed in order.

This book was a refreshing break from a lot I had been reading at the time (I’m a little late on this review!). The biggest thing is how mature Roland and Zoe were throughout the book. Once married, but now divorced, Roland goes away to work leaving his ex-wife to continue her work at the family winery. But when times get rough financially Roland comes home to offer some help. Coming back comes at a price, when he realizes he still loves his ex. A great second chance romance brews and the entire Miles family is there to offer help and humor. Another great book by Claire Kingsley.
The Miles Family series is probably one of my top favorite series that I’ve read. I have read the entire series 2 or 3 times and it’s one I know I will go back and read again and again. I don’t know what took me so long to review them, but here I am… finally getting to it!
Broken Miles is book one of the Miles family series and focuses on the second chance romance of Roland and Zoe. These two stole my heart out of my chest and shredded it in the best possible way. Second chance romances are probably one of my top favorite tropes and Claire pulled it together seamlessly with this book.
Zoe is my girl crush. Seriously. I want to be her best friend and if I swung that way, I would want to date her. She is everything! Then there is Roland. I wanted to slap him at the beginning. But he turned it around for me and had me swooning by the end. The connection I had with these two had me fighting right alongside them. They were meant to be together.
I can’t even put into words what this book did to me. I connected so deeply to every single character, even the secondary characters, that I was feeling every single emotion. I was there through the tears, the laughs… I got so angry that I wanted to throw my kindle at the wall. To be able to connect that deeply with a book is one in a million.
Five stars for this sweet, emotional second chance romance that will have you laughing and crying right alongside them.
Zoe left Roland four years ago and went home. Roland moved up in his career, but he gets a call from his brother that they need him. Roland goes home and starts to help with the family business and feeling start to stir for Zoe. She feels things for him too but can they get back to each other and move forward. Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended. Loved this book Amazing.
This is a fantastic book introducing us to the Miles family. They own a vineyard and Roland has been away from his family, including his ex-wife for years now. When the family runs into a problem they call Roland back home to help. When he arrives he finds out that his ex is working for the family and doing a great job. We also meet all of Roland’s siblings & mom as well as their handyman Ben.
Second Chance Marriage | Contemporary Romance
I adore a second chance romance and have loved the books I’ve read by Claire Kingsley in the past, so I decided to give this series a try! The Miles Family series is a series of interconnected standalones. From what I gather, for best enjoyment, these books should be read in order. Each book does feature a different sibling/couple, but I feel like the story line for all the books truly grows with each book. So again, reading them in order is suggested.
With that being said, I found this to be a sweet and enjoyable read. While I would have loved to see a few flashbacks as this is a second chance marriage romance, I felt the story was straight forward and delightful. There were some hilarious parts (I cannot wait to read Coopers book!), and some emotional ones as well (poor Shannon), making it pleasant and well rounded- exactly what I needed in the moment!
Overall, this is a great start to the Miles family series and I’m excited to continue on. I love the books setting (a vineyard) and the fact that the stories each revolve around a Miles family member. This way we get to see some of our favorite characters again!
An absolutely wonderful ‘second chance’ at love story.
Broken Miles (Miles Family #1) by Claire Kingsley is a contemporary, small town, second chance, workplace romance told in first person, dual POV.
When Roland Miles returns home to temporarily help the family winery get out of a bind, he’s not looking forward to seeing his ex-wife, Zoe. She works as the events manager there, so completely avoiding her is not an option. Being around each other brings up all kinds of confusing feelings for both Zoe and Roland. On paper, their marriage may be over, but there’s definitely some unfinished business between them.
What will happen between Roland and Zoe as they work in close proximity to each other? Can they resolve their past issues to start something new? Or will they finally receive the closure they need to move on for good? Is their relationship too broken to be fixed? Read the book to find out.
I LOVED Roland and Zoe’s story. As characters, they were complex and flawed, but also relatable and loveable. I enjoyed seeing how they both experienced growth and how they were able to communicate like mature adults, both accepting responsibility for their actions. The secondary characters were interesting and fun, which made me want to read the rest of the series to learn more about them. This book was heartwarming, sexy, funny, and full of family drama and secrets. Highly recommended!
This book was so refreshing after all of the angst and drama I have been reading lately! Characters are loveable, storylines are fun and funny, and you end the book wanting to read the next. This book won’t change your world, but it’s a nice HEA and perfect for some light reading. Roland, Zoe and the others are likable characters, and I am looking forward to reading more of their stories in the rest of this series. Well done!
Broken, doesn’t mean it can’t be fixed…
I have the perfect marriage for me but it is FAR FROM PERFECT. For instance, my hubby agrees with me EVERY TIME we have a “discussion”. I don’t want him to agree with me, I want him to get as angry as I am so I can yell at him. Now, this might seem a little loose cannon..ish but, I’m a 44-year-old woman with HORMONES!! Sometimes I need a good yell. Hubby, unfortunately, is too nice…or maybe…he’s just trying to torture me for being a hormonal shrew??? Anyways, my point is that most relationships have bumps. Sometimes these bumps are little stumbles along the journey, others are mountains and the battle to climb it can leave you broken. But a Broken relationship doesn’t have to be broken forever.
I really enjoyed reading Broken Miles and I’m quickly becoming a fan of Claire Kingsley and her writing style. Her characters are interesting, the friendship and family relationships are ones that I admire, and the love stories are sexy and believable. I first met the Miles family when I recently read, Everly Dalton’s Dating Disasters and instantly connected with lovable Cooper. I couldn’t help myself, I had to know more.
This is a story about taking a second chance with love. We meet Roland and Zoe and they are divorced. When I first met them, I didn’t particularly like Roland and Zoe seemed a little flakey. I wasn’t even convinced that these two should try again, initially. Roland’s life choices and priorities seemed whacked and I myself am not a fan of people (in general) who put money over happiness. Zoe seems to be just getting along and not really looking for her happy place. When they meet up again, all of their attraction, connection and shared history make it hard for them to remember they are not each other’s “one” anymore.
Even though Zoe has a hook-up buddy and Roland has a girlfriend (if you could call her that), it was obvious that they had unfinished business. Once I got their history and the how’s and why’s they split, I realised that they needed a second chance. The first time around, they were practically babies. The amount of pressure they put on themselves at such a young age was always going to put a burden on any relationship let alone a couple of 20-year-olds. The one thing you learn as you mature is that communication is the cornerstone of every successful relationship. These kiddywinks missed the memo, unfortunately, and to be honest, they didn’t have good role models.
It’s going to take more than really good sexy times to fix Roland and Zoe’s relationship but their maturity and life experience has taught them what’s important. I absolutely loved that Roland realised that his priorities needed to change to keep the love of his life with him. It was also refreshing to see Zoe come to terms with the fact that the end of their relationship was a team effort. He made mistakes and she let him without even telling him why or when it became too much. They both acknowledged and realised that communication is the key.
I really enjoyed meeting the Miles family and I will definitely be back for more. Broken Miles was a fantastic story with lovable characters, humour and plenty of sexy times. If you haven’t tried a Claire Kingsley, I can definitely recommend.
4*
Roland had a desperate call to return home as the winery is in financial trouble.
Will seeing Zoe working there be difficult after all she’s his ex wife.
I’m loving where Claire is going with this family they really do have great presence & personalities. This book is a standalone & introduces you to Leo, Cooper , Chase & Brynn. Also some surprises included. I can’t wait for the next members book
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Second chance romance is my favorite–and I love the great sense of community this author creates in her stories!
How can I even put into words how much I love this story? Actually, I love ALL of the Miles family books, but this one just steals it all for me. Heart-warming characters, steamy scenes, a romance that had me sighing even as it kept me awake because I really didn’t want to put this one down. Loved it so much!
I didn’t care for this primarily due to the heroine. I guess I am a bigger prude than I thought when I lost interest in her when she goes to her booty call boy because she is sexually driven regarding the hero. Plus her booty call is a douche bag of epic proportions. My age is showing. I don’t have to have a virginal heroine, but I care as little for a heroine who behaves this way as I do when the hero does.
What makes the story is the bromance between Cooper, the H’s younger totally irreverent younger brother, and his best friend Connor. They are hysterical and the banter rings true.
One of the more riveting portions of the book is the mother and father of the Miles children and the devolution of their marriage.
Flash forward to Reckless Miles.
I love series about a whole family and this was definitely an excellent start to a family’s story.
First read by this author and it was enjoyable. Interesting characters and plot twists held my interest. Looking forward to reading what happens with the Miles Family.
Love books with those funny as heck characters and this family has it!!! The second book, forbidden miles, is great too!!
I love second chance romance so I read a ton of it. I can’t remember ever reading a story quite like this one. A couple who was married and divorced. Both have seemingly moved on and have long since let go of the feelings they once had for each other. Or maybe they really haven’t.
This book is an amazing start to a series about a wonderful, loving, and complicated family. I loved getting to know them and I can’t wait to learn more!
What happens when you find yourself falling for someone?
What happens when that someone is the man you left four years ago?
What happens when that man is your ex-husband?
All of these questions are answered in Broken Miles. And trust me when I say it’s a journey you want to take.
Roland is back in his home town trying to fix his family’s business. His brother, Leo, called out of the blue and demanded he come back home, so he did.
Zoe works as the events coordinator at Salishan Cellars. After leaving her husband, she returned to her small hometown and found herself working for her ex-husband’s family.
It’s worked out perfectly because Roland never comes home. Never. Not in well over a year. So, why is he here now?
Well, rest assured, Roland has his reasons. He also knows he has some unresolved feelings toward his ex-wife. Everyone can see how he feels, but can he ever admit his love for her? Will she be able to find her way back to him or is the damage from the past too much to handle?
The Miles family is amazing. They are strong, they are centered, they are loving. They will do anything to protect and help those they love.
So, settle in with a nice glass of wine (or the cheap stuff, I don’t care), grab a blanket and pillow, get comfy, and get acquainted with the Miles family. You’re going to love them. Just freaking love them.
I’m waiting on you, Cooper. Your book is the one I want!
Second Chances, New Beginnings
This is definitely a great start to what is expected to be a wonderful series from the talented Claire Kingsley. I know I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again. Every time I read a Claire Kingsley romance, she always makes me feel like I’m truly a part of the story. I’m not just an observer, but I’m as equally invested in the HEA as the characters themselves. I want to be a member of the family, or in this case, the Miles family. Claire’s ability to romanticize real life people in real life situations is the greatest appeal to her writing.
I’m such a sucker for 2nd Chance Romances, and Roland and Zoe deserve theirs as much as anyone else. These two prove that even though you love one another deeply, communication is so important in a marriage. Without it, things can deteriorate so quickly, you’d hardly have the chance to catch your breath. When Roland and Zoe finally open up about what went wrong and start to really listen to each other, that’s when love truly conquers all.
Broken Miles is signature Claire Kingsley. It’s sweet, sexy, romantic, has witty supporting characters, a few carefully placed surprises and heavy on the HEA, including a bonus epilogue that makes it so hard for readers to let go and let this story end. We just simply want more of the Miles family.
I will say that I wasn’t a fan of Roland at the beginning, but I definitely grew to love him by the end of the story. He never stopped loving Zoe, but let hurt override those feelings for so many years. But, the familiarity and chemistry was quite evident from the moment they saw one another again. And once he realized that he truly did have a second chance with her, he knew what he had to do to not screw it up again.
I enjoyed that Zoe remained close with the Miles family over the years, and I loved the relationship she had with Cooper (and Chase). Since Zoe was not particularly close with her brother, it was nice to see that she had that relationship with Coop. I laughed a lot during their conversations, as they were just too funny!
I cannot wait to read more in this series, as Broken Miles was absolutely fantastic! Great characters and storyline that I am excited to read more of as we get the other sibling’s stories.
