“She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight.”Single-minded drive earned Roland Miles success—and cost him his first love. When his marriage to Zoe ended, he did the only thing he knew. He dove into work to put his heartbreak behind him. Zoe Sutton’s life hasn’t exactly gone to plan. She certainly … exactly gone to plan. She certainly didn’t plan on losing Roland or moving home to work for his family’s winery. Four years after their divorce, she wonders if her chance at happily ever after is behind her.
After discovering his family might lose their land, Roland comes home to help sort out the mess. But between his brothers’ antics, a baby sister who’s all grown up, and a father keeping secrets, complicated isn’t even the half of it.
And then there’s Zoe.
He didn’t come home looking for a second chance with her. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes what they lost. What they could have again.
Because the truth is, they broke each other’s hearts. And maybe they’re the only ones who can put them back together.
Author’s note: A stoic hero who’s soft on the inside. A sassy heroine who doesn’t take any sh*t. Messy family. Lots of shenanigans. Mattress burning bonfires. And a second chance at love with a big HEA.
The Miles Family series are best enjoyed in order.

I loved every word of this book! Claire Kingsley created a vivid world that I want to live in! The setting was lovely and dreamy. The secondary characters were interesting and lively. The main characters real, flawed, and charismatic. The storyline tight and intriguing. I hope to hear more from this family!
We are introduced to the Miles family, grape growers and winemakers. Roland comes home to help the winery from bankruptcy. The only problem is his ex-wife works there.
Wow, I’m really not a second chance book lover, but oh my, this book is amazing! The chemistry between Roland and Zoe is hot! I love how Claire makes her characters soo real and lovable. Zoe and Roland divorce and move on, looking for love again, but never find it. While Roland is back home he realizes that he never stopped loving Zoe and wants her back. Zoe makes him work for it, which I like.
I loved the family drama and learning about the other family. A great start to another great series.
The saying “older and wiser” really does apply to this story. As we get older, we see things we don’t see when we are younger. How to communicate our needs and wants and how to be vulnerable. Roland and Zoe needed to do that when they were younger, but who knows if it would have changed things. All they knew is that they still loved each other so much it hurt. I’m so happy these two could talk through things and realize what was truly important to them.
After I got emotional reading Grace and Asher’s story – and discovering that her hideous, absent father actually had another family – I immediately went looking for this other series, which actually was published before Baileys Brothers. But ok, you can read it in reverse order.
Meet the Miles.
Roland, Brynn, Cooper and Leo Miles are the sons of Shannon, the owner and heiress of the winery, Salishan Cellars, in Echo Creek.
The eldest son, Roland, was the CFO in Dimension, Inc, in San Francisco. He had already decided some time ago that he would go his own professional path and left the family business behind.
He had married his great love of life, Zoe, back in college. The two looked like the perfect couple, in love. But the move to San Francisco caused them to start separating.
Roland was a workaholic, and Zoe felt increasingly alone. Tired, she left her husband, leaving her ring in the bathroom sink, and shortly thereafter they divorced.
Roland avoided going to his parents’ house, especially since he knew Zoe worked at the winery as events manager.
But when he receives a mysterious phone call from his brother Leo that his mother is going to miss the winery, Roland has no choice.
Upon arriving there and checking the books, he found the situation was worse than he thought.
His father, Lawrence, had made wrong investments, and besides, the constant trips he took under the guise of visiting other vineyards entailed more expenses that they could not afford.
And then the visit of a certain girl causes an even bigger bomb to fall on the family: their father had another family.
While trying to help the family by organizing the finances and see what could be saved, Roland can’t resist the presence of his ex-wife, who remains beautiful… and single.
Joining forces to save the heritage, Zoe and Roland give in to their desire – at first, with no prospect of a future – but soon realize that the love they felt since youth had not died.
But with him living and working in San Francisco, would they be able to give love another chance, or would it all end up like the first time?
Another family that I fell in love with from the very first lines. The connection among them is wonderful. You’ll fall in love with Cooper’s craziness
5 stars
I love the family dynamic with the Miles siblings. Roland has to come back home to see everything he misses with his family and the love of his life, his ex-wife Zoe. Sometimes circumstances can push one to see what’s been in front of him/her. The author takes a different route with this second chance story, it’s the unique approach that makes Broken Miles an enjoyable book.
*New to me author*
This is my first read by Claire Kingsley and I’m officially in love. A second chance romance in which a divorce couple find their way back.
Roland and Zoe kickstart the Miles Family series. They’re high school sweethearts that married young and divorced just as young. What drifted them apart, maybe the thing to bring them back together.
Since this is my first time reading a Kingsley story, I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with an author so quickly. A story that has heat (so hot!), humor (the Miles family are absolutely hilarious) and they have some drama that will carry throughout the series.
After reading this book, diving into the second one will be no problem. I think Ms. Kingsley has a new fan.
You are pulled into this story from the word go! Prepare to be swept off you feet with real witty characters and vocabulary to suit. It felt so real, thought the Miles family was my next door neighbors.
After discovering Claire Kingsley’s writing thru the Bootleg Springs Series with Lucy Score, I kept meaning to come over and start reading her own individual books.
I’m a shamed to say that I left it until it took a tragedy for me to do so.
So o asked her readers in her Alpha Group on FB,
Where do I start?
So here I am with Broken Miles in the Miles Family Series
Deep down inside I am a Smalltown Family oriented reader, with a touch of funny
CK hit all the spots here with the first book in the series
That 2nd Chance at Romance with Roland and Zoe, what made it even better, they had been married.
Swoon. These two already had done the old get together, know each other, compatible in all ways with the hot sex.
But something went wrong
I loved how the story starts with Roland and he thinks abs believes despite being divorced he has a great life
Everything he wanted Money a great career great apartment great life, a girlfriend even, who is like him. Busy .
Little does he realise what his actual life is like, until he is called back to help with the family business, a family owned and run Winery, which has been in his family fir generations and is now in dire need of being pulled out of trouble.
But it’s not the only trouble he encounters, his Ex Wife Zoe also lives and works in the family business and by the looks of it seems to have moved on in life without him. Also bit the woman he once thought he knew, with her new “ friends with benefits “ attitude. Also why dues this seem to upset him so abs why is it Zoe has a different understanding of what went wrong with their marriage.
I loved the interaction of these two and also the introduction of the rest of the family characters
There is also the underlying story into the next book, of the family “ troubles” .
I love even though Roland and Zoe are book 1’s story, it doesn’t end here.
Which I found out starting book 2 in Forbidden Miles.
So thank you to all those Alpha Friends in CK’s FB world for introducing me to
Roland Zoe Leo (War hero brother) Cooper( Young Playboy Funny brother) Brynn ( Bryncess youngest Miles and only sister) Shannon (Mum Miles) Ben ( Sexy Silver Fox Farm Manager ) Chase Reilly ( Sexy Best Friend of Cooper Playboy 2, until he trips over what has been in front of him all his life)
I especially want to thank Claire for being who she is and discovering her talent and love of writing. But I also want to thank her husband David, who has loved this woman all through their time together and supported her in what she does and always will. It is because of him I was given the opportunity sooner rather than later to discover Claire’s writing individually
Just because we are not here does not mean we don’t or didn’t exist . We leave reminders of who and what we were. We don’t cease to exist because we are no longer here , we just take on another form , whatever that may be.
Children , love , memories .
Thank you xx
Love this series already and it’s just the first book. It’s like one big happy family and you immediately feel at ease and fall in love with the characters. Lots of drama but at the same time laughter and love. It’s going to be a binge read I’m happy to be on board with.
Its not always broken
Roland gets called back to the family winery to help save it from foreclosure.
Zoe, his ex, still works for the winery so that makes things a little weird as they treat her as family.
There are a lot of emotions within this couple and really the entire family.
The way the entire family comes together is amazing.
Can not wait to start book 2 in this series.
Single-minded drive earned Roland Miles success—and cost him his first love. When his marriage to Zoe ended, he did the only thing he knew. He dove into work to put his heartbreak behind him.
I really enjoyed this book it was such a breath of fresh air. The story line was a second chance romance and it was romantic, funny and dramatic, the characters were likable and had a great chemistry in and out of the bed. The stand out character in this book though was Roland’s brother Cooper who was hilarious. All over this was a great read, now onto book 2.
It’s a story of family business; lives filled with work and laughter; plus, great characters. There are sensual scenes and harsh language but many times I had to laugh . I do plan to get the next book.
Fantastic second chance romance between formerly married (to one another) couple. Wasn’t sure the author could sell me on it, but in the end I became a believer.
Totally enamoured with the whole cast of characters. Cooper stole every scene he was in, and Leo is mysterious and compelling. Shannon, Brynn, and Chase are fun to watch as well. Can’t wait to see more of them in the rest of the series.
I can’t believe it took me so long to start reading this series. I think I have a new addiction! Broken Miles has everything I love: emotion, angst, family, tightknit friendships, and a hard-won HEA.
This book is amazing.
I love the characters and the secondary characters.
Claire Kingsley knows how to make you fall in love with her creation.
Roland Miles and Zoey Sutton, feel in love in high school and married at twenty.
As their life changed, so did their ambitions, and soon their marriage fell apart, ending in divorce.
For years later, Roland, is called back to the family vineyard to figure out why it is close to foreclosure.
Zoe, has worked for the family since the divorce and now they find themselves falling for each other.
Zoe, knows she should protect her heart but Roland will stop at nothing to get a second chance.
This is going to be a great series. I look forward to reading all of the Mile’s happy ever after.
Meet the Miles family. In this second chance romance all of the characters in the upcoming books are introduced. They are quite an interesting group and I am looking forward to reading each of their individual stories.
Roland and Zoe had it all until they didn’t. Life, money, success and lack of communicating got in the way. When he has to return home to help save the family business and work along side his ex-wife, it’s awkward for both of them. It takes a rather dramatic revelation to start them heading down the right path towards a possible reconciliation. Self examination is a painful thing at times. Zoe and Roland both take some time to look back at what went wrong so they dan be honest with themselves and each other.
Oh my goodness. This book is truly AMAZING! I was seriously sucked in from start to finish. You could feel chemistry these two shared throughout the story. Even after 4 years it was like these two didn’t skip a beat. I’m so excited for Brynn’s story LOVED the extended epilogue
I listened to the audio and it is truly AMAZING Joe and Maxine were the perfect Roland and Zoe. Their voices and expressions fit these characters spot on!
Loved this book and it’s characters!
A fun and easy second chance romance read that had plenty of entertaining moments. Sounds like a fun family to be a part of and I’m looking forward to book 2.
It took me a while to start this series, and I regret that now. I think two things held me back: One was that this first book is a second chance romance (actually my least favorite trope) and two, I suspected I would need to binge all 5 books quickly without putting them down because I love this author’s other works (turned out to be true) and I knew I would need to have time to just do it. I ended up reading the entire series in three days- one positive aspect of social distancing.
This is one of the best written second chance romances I have ever read. I love that it shows both Roland and Zoe recognizing what they did wrong the first time around. I also appreciated that the reasons their relationship fell apart the first time were realistic and not some contrived event or misunderstanding. I love that their history allowed them to read each other, and support each other. They have smoking hot chemistry and a tender appreciation for each other as they rebuild trust together.
Secondary characters are very enjoyable.. All of the characters are well-developed and I felt like I knew them. The setting is beautiful and now I am dying to visit central Washington wineries. There is also a bit of intrigue to the plot with Lawrence and the winery. Overall, I absolutely loved it.
