“She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight.”Single-minded drive earned Roland Miles success—and cost him his first love. When his marriage to Zoe ended, he did the only thing he knew. He dove into work to put his heartbreak behind him. Zoe Sutton’s life hasn’t exactly gone to plan. She certainly … exactly gone to plan. She certainly didn’t plan on losing Roland or moving home to work for his family’s winery. Four years after their divorce, she wonders if her chance at happily ever after is behind her.
After discovering his family might lose their land, Roland comes home to help sort out the mess. But between his brothers’ antics, a baby sister who’s all grown up, and a father keeping secrets, complicated isn’t even the half of it.
And then there’s Zoe.
He didn’t come home looking for a second chance with her. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes what they lost. What they could have again.
Because the truth is, they broke each other’s hearts. And maybe they’re the only ones who can put them back together.
Author’s note: A stoic hero who’s soft on the inside. A sassy heroine who doesn’t take any sh*t. Messy family. Lots of shenanigans. Mattress burning bonfires. And a second chance at love with a big HEA.
The Miles Family series are best enjoyed in order.

Broken Miles is another exceptional read by Claire Kingsley. I don’t know how she does it, but I am so glad she does! This second chance romance featuring Roland and Zoe is the first in a new series and it is so beautifully written. Not only do you fall for the main characters – there is a whole family of supporting characters to love and root for. I’m not sure who is in the line up next, but I personally cannot wait for Cooper’s book, and Chase’s, and Leo’s, and… well, ALL of them, even Momma Miles! I voluntarily read and am reviewing an advanced reader’s copy of this book with my honest opinion.
The Miles Family has owned Salishan Cellars for generations, a beautiful winery in central Washington. Roland Miles made his own way in the world apart from the family business in San Francisco. Reluctant to return, he heeds the call from his brother Leo that they need him. Zoe, Roland’s ex is now the event coordinator for the winery and just as much a family member as Roland. While these two try to avoid each other during this temporary visit, the chemistry between them when thrown together during one encounter after another is explosive!
While Roland and Zoe will draw you in with the tension and their passion, you can’t help but fall in love with the Miles family. Brother Leo is the security guru who holes up in his cottage as a reclusive savant with computers. Brother Cooper is the vineyard master with a purple thumb, talking constantly and best friends with Chase, the winery’s mechanic. My favorite scene includes these two trying to comfort Zoe with a break up box! Trust me this will have you laughing out loud. Their antics on top of the sizzling sex scenes, the intrigue about the winery’s trouble, issues with Shannon and Lawrence (the patriarchs), and sister Brynn’s impromptu visit, will keep you turning pages and wanting more.
While many would call this a second chance romance I believe it is more a reunion. As the first book of the series we get such a good insight into the family dynamics and the characters are so well developed. I am anxiously awaiting more from this crazy group, especially Cooper and Chase.
I swear, which each book that Claire Kingsley gives us, they just keep getting better and better. Broken Miles is book #1 in the Miles Family Series and what a way to start us off!
Roland and Zoe fell in love in high school, married young and divorced a few years later. Roland works hard and is extremely driven, yet his wife Zoe left and divorced him. He had no time for her while he tried to climb the corporate ladder, claiming it was all done to give them a better life. When Zoe could not take a backseat to Roland’s work anymore and left, his family gave her a job working at their winery.
Four years later, Roland has to return home to deal with the issues of the family business, once again putting Zoe into his everyday life. However, what was supposed to be a week turns into more as Roland is trying to save the family business, but being that close to Zoe every single day also has questions arising and feelings simmering at the surface.
The story of Roland and Zoe is probably one of the best second chance romances I’ve ever read. A young married couple who divorced that can still come together a few years later to help save his family business regardless of the issues they may have had in the past. This story hit me HARD. It was full of the love of family, some hilarious moments, heartbreak, misunderstanding and a love that never died. I read it in one evening and was completely taken with the story from the start. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
Rating – All the Stars!!
Here’s the thing. I’m going to go on and tell you all the things I loved about this book, but here’s the truth…you really just need to buy this book. Like right this minute, go buy it, and start reading. I absolutely loved everything about this book, and I am so excited for the rest of the series!
Still with me? Okay, so here are some reasons you should’ve taken my original advice. 😉 Broken Miles is the first book in Kingsley’s new Miles Family Series. It is such a fantastic introduction to the series. I fell in love with the entire family…well, almost the entire family. There is so much included in this story. The love of a family that sticks together and supports one another through the good and the bad, friends who are fierce and loyal, humor, romance, and plot twists that make you gasp all make this a story you won’t want to put down.
This book focuses on Roland and Zoe. They are divorced, but when Roland returns home to help save his family’s winery, they are forced back together. We get brief glimpses of their former relationship through brief text messages from the past and conversations that take place, but this story focuses on the present. I love Roland and Zoe. I think second chance romances are tough to pull off, because for me, I need to see real character development over the course of the story. I need to see the characters work for it, and know they won’t make the same mistakes again. Kingsley accomplished this beautifully. I absolutely loved the push and pull in this story as well as the simmer that built to a raging fire. Their chemistry was off the charts, and the build was amazing!
Not only did I love Roland and Zoe as a couple, I loved them as individual characters. Zoe is independent, loyal, and loving. She is as much (if not more) a part of the Miles family as Roland, and I love the way she cares so deeply for them. Her relationship with Cooper (Roland’s brother) and Chase (Cooper’s best friend) is fantastic. Seeing her cut loose with these goofy boys makes me even more excited to see them fall hard in books of their own. And while Roland has made his fair share of mistakes, his love and emotions run deep. I love that he is loyal and loving to both Zoe and his family. He is strong, learns from his mistakes, and supports those he loves. He had me swooning over and over.
Did I mention this is the perfect series opener? Not only do we get to know Roland and Zoe in this book, we also get to know the whole Miles family. I fell head over heels in love with the Miles family. Each and every one of them has a unique story, and I absolutely can’t wait for each of their books. The possibilities are endless and I already have so many theories!
Okay, okay. I could go on and on, but that would just make it take longer for you to get started. So, go! Buy Broken Miles and dive in! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
I received an advanced copy of this book with no expectations from or obligations to the author.
Yes, she did it again…
Claire Kingsley is an awesome writer and with every new book of hers that I read I am constantly surprised. She pushes me out of my comfort zone and has me wanting story genres that I would never read of my own choosing. This story is a perfect example. I don’t like heartfelt stories, ones where my emotions are involved (I get enough in real life) and this story made me feel. I was excited to turn the pages and read what would happen next, I did not mind feeling for these characters at all.
This is a new series about the Miles family, who own and run a winery. This first story it is about Roland and Zoe; they are divorced and this is their second chance. There are some twists, some humor and lots of love.
Zoe is both soft and caring and a hard ass who takes no s**t. She knows herself and what she wants and she goes for it. While, Roland seems a bit lost in the beginning of the story and (I am guessing here) I think that is part of the reason for their divorce. I loved reading the dialogue between Roland and Zoe and I loved how they not only got their second chance but had a stronger and more loving bond at the end. I also really loved the interactions/interruptions of the other family members.
Another great story from this author, it had steamy scenes, emotions galore, humor, sass, and a beautiful story. I cannot wait for the other family members to get their stories and I want to know more about this couple in the future.
