Let’s start by saying that this book has been my most emotional read this year. I sobbed and cried so intensely reading Broken Knight but also laugh and giggled like a school girl. The writing, feelings, plot and characters where done brilliantly to tugged at your heart. I think when you had read all the books in Sinners of Saint, All Saints High series and been part of Shen’s book group you have a more intense experience with Broken Knight. You feel like they are actual breathing living people. You got to see all this amazing relationship develop and bloom. Like Rosie and Dean’s. The kids grew and became teenagers before your eyes. Struggling and learning.
This book was a mix of so many emotions. You could feel the love, passion and yearning. But also feel and taste the devastation, sorrow, lost and forgiveness in your bones.
I finished Broken Knight at 1:00 am yesterday and still to this moment, writing my review I don’t think I can’t describe correctly how incredibly and profoundly in love I am with this story. More so when I not only read the book but listen to the audiobook. It intensified my experience. Jacob Morgan and Savannah Peachwood are the lead narrators in here and the gave it all to bring Knight and Luna to life.
Knight Cole stuggled so much. Watching him pulled at my heart with so much ferocity. He was sweet and caring but also a total #tothole too. Let’s not forget who he is son of and that it wouldn’t be a Leigh book without having them. I wanted to hugged him because I did put myself in his shoes and It wasn’t some easy ones to filled. I also wanted to slap him. Trust me he deserved some slapping, multiple times too. This was like a real life been torn many ways.
My beautiful sweet Luna Rexroth. This girl definitely grew in front of my eyes. She became a woman and it came with mistakes, pain and passion like any other young woman. She overcame many many obstacles and bloom and shine so bright.
I have to say that Broken Knight has become my favorite read from L.J. Shen. I recommend this 5 read with all my heart. It’s a MUST READ for 2019.
What to say about this book except it was amazing and heartbreaking. I LOVE Knight he stole the show for me in this book. Don’t get me wrong Luna was a great character that showed so much growth through out this book. But Knight is just amazing, he loved Luna with all his heart and Ughh their story had me getting mad at times because of the drama and twists but they eventually made it to their happily ever after. I loved seeing Dean and Rosie in this book as well, getting Deans POV was great….I cannot wait to read more in this series. I know they are all stand alones but this series is amazing and you should definetley read them all and in order!
Who doesn’t love Knight Cole after reading this book has to be crazy! This book is filled with so much angst from start to finish. You can literally feel everything these characters are going through, through the words. You will feel the heartache, the sadness, and the pain. You will feel angry, you will want to hurt Knight Cole and then hug him. You will want to shake Luna and yell at her to WAKE UP! You will want to sit with Rosie and hold Dean. You will want to slap some b****es! You will want to knee Vaughn in his happy place. You will experience ALL THE FEELS but in the end you will be whole. I have never felt so many emotions while reading/listening to a book as I did with BK. Please don’t listen to the negative reviews…read/listen for yourself and you will see what an AMAZING story Ms. Shen has brought us. This is a book I will definitely listen to often. It was just that painfully beautiful.
EVEN SILENT PRINCESSES NEED THEIR KNIGHT!
Prepare to have your heartstrings ripped out. This book is great in the most angsty way. Luna’s voice is held captive by her mother’s desertion and Knight is her protector and best friend. Their changing feelings for each other as they grow up bewilder them both and neither is equipped to handle them. As they bumble through the messes they create, they keep connecting with the invisible link that binds them and then hurting each other again. My heart kept breaking for these two star crossed lovers.
To me, Knight was the most hypocritical with everything he was appearing to be doing in his life. I felt like he should have been more honest with Luna (his Moonshine) and for that I wanted to kick him several times. The misunderstandings between these two were mostly caused by lack of communication. The angst in this book was so off the chart, but so was the sexual tension and chemistry that flowed between these two!
The families and friends of Knight and Luna were so supportive and loving. The history of both of their birth mothers added drama and stress to their lives, Luna’s the most apparent.
I think this is my most favorite L.J. Shen book yet. I loved their parent’s stories and now reading about their children is so freaking awesome! I would give this book more than FIVE STARS if I could! One-click it now and get immersed in the city of Todos Santos and the HotHoles!
“Moonshine,” he whispered. “You fill up the empty, dark space— like the moon owns the sky. It is quiet. It is bright. It doesn’t need to be a ball of flame to be noticed. It simply exists. It forever glows.”
Is there such a thing called a book coma? Because, I feel like I am in a book coma. My emotions are a mess. My heart has been destroyed. My soul crushed. My feelings are scattered. Because of Broken Knight. Broken Knight decimated. Broken Knight stole every part of my soul. Broken Knight damaged every single morsel of me. L.J. Shen, you talented genius, you are a cruel master, ing. What have you done? You have reduced me to a pile of mess. You stroked words of magic that stunned and spellbound me. You created characters of love and beauty that gave their own voice and story. You wrote powerful stories that roused my heart and soul. Broken Knight is so special. Broken Knight resonated deeply inside me. Broken Knight told an exquisite story that held captivating pages and fantastic writing to make me feel every single word. L.J. Shen outdid herself again. Wow. I am truly amazed.
Broken Knight is the mesmerizing and heart melting second standalone book in the All Saints High series. A soulful masterpiece. A capturing phenomena. An unforgettable literary greatness. Broken Knight squeezed my heart. Broken Knight wrapped its heart crushing pages tightly and sunk me deeply into its beautiful words. Soul Staggering. Heart Crippling. Heart Wrecking. Poignant. Epic. Sensational. Broken Knight is a gorgeous story. A story of unrequited love. A dazzling story with friends to lovers trope, painful moments, tragic moments and an everlasting love. L.J. Shen will challenge you. Broken Knight will move every piece of you. I ugly cried. I swooned. I laughed. My heart broke into a million pieces. My heart mend a bunch of times. I smiled. Broken Knight will forever be a part of me. L.J. Shen’s writing is so earth shattering that you feel it. Her words flow so effortlessly in my heart. She took it to the next level and gave a book I will forever keep in my heart.
Broken Knight will make you fall in love with Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth. I waited forever for their story. Well, it is truly worth the wait. Damn, Knight and Luna did a lot damage to my feelings. Best Friends. Star crossed Lovers. They are amazing. I freaking loved them. Through their ups and downs, tragedy. Pain and love. Knight – cocky, funny, alpha and asshole and Luna – kind, sweet, they were truly made me happy as a reader.
If there was an unlimited rating system, I would give Broken Knight a billion stars. My heart will never be the same. Broken Knight is hands down my best book of 2019.
ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review
L.J. Shen’s books have this capability to rip you apart and make you whole at the same time. Every time I read her books, I have such a tremendous love-hate relationship with the characters. These people are those that you want to hate. You want to scream at them and throw your book/kindle. But then you want to wrap them in a hug and see them get that damn happily ever after they deserve.
As a fan of L.J. Shen and having read Dean and Rosie’s story, this book ripped out my heart and shoved it back in with a brutality I wasn’t ready for. I was sobbing in my car on my way to work and had to re-apply my makeup on multiple occasions.
Highly recommend this, especially if you have read L.J. Shen’s books before. You will NOT be disappointed.
There is not enough stars that would come close to how phenomenal this book is.
Knight is everything and broken does t even come close to what he is. Luna is feisty and strong. I love these characters.
This story broke me, I ugly cried but I couldnt stop reading, through the laughter and tears it was one of the best books of Leigh’s I’ve ever read.
This story put me through the ringer. My heart was in my throat the whole time I was reading. My feelings were all over the place and I am emotionally EXHAUSTED!!!
“There will be no one else, Moonshine. I will never let you get over me.”
The angst was so off the charts between Knight and Luna. I wanted to shake some sense into both of them for the way they treated each other in this story. Oh how my heart ached for Knight in this story. I wanted to reach into this book and fix my broken boy.
This book has become my new favorite by L.J. Shen. It was raw, emotional, heartbreaking and heartwarming. This is definitely L.J. Shen’s best book to date. The writing was flawless and passionate. I had tears in my eyes while reading and I had to take a break to compose myself. I have been in a book slump as of late and this book just put me into book hangover territory.
Wow Wow Wow this is my first book by this author. This book took me through so many emotions with twists and turns and heartbreaks. Luna and Knight were destined to be together if they could get out of each others way. Amazing book. I never cried so much of a book before and I’m a crier. *Ride or Die*
Ah!! I’ve been waiting on pins and needles for Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth’s story….. AND IT’S FINALLY HERE!!!
Broken Knight can be read as a standalone, but it’s best if you read the Sinners of Saint series before diving into this one. That’s if you want an ‘all the feels’ approach. This is an emotional coming of age friends to lovers story told from Luna and Knight’s point of views.
Luna is the daughter of Trent and Edie Rexroth (you can read their story in Scandalous)
and Knight is the son of Dean and Rosie Cole (you can read their story in Ruckus)
Luna was everything I expected her character to be. She had a heart of gold and a silent voice. But don’t let her silence fool you, this woman is determined. She’s been through so much in her life, she’s not about to let anyone else walk all over her. Even if that means walking away from the only person that has ever owned her heart.
Knight is at the prime of his high school career, he’s got the all american boy vibe down to a T. Quarterback of the football team, the most popular boy in the school, and a family that is notorious in Todos Santos. The only thing he doesn’t have is the girl he wants. His next door neighbor. His best friend. Luna Rexroth.
Throughout the years, we’re given an insight view of Luna and Knights relationship. Evolving from friendship to something more with all the ups and downs, highs and lows. These two are fighting a losing battle, especially when jealousy and misconceptions get in the way. as they grow and get older, they’re about to learn some things can’t be fixed and some things have to break in order to see the truths under the surface.
I went into Knight and Luna’s story with expectations and alert. After reading a few reviews and hearing people say they were an emotional mess after reading, I thought I had a heads up in the ‘no tears’ competition. I learned a lesson of value. Some things aren’t easily predicted, that’s the way life goes sometimes… In the end, I bawled like a fucking baby! There is no preparation for this book, if you are an emotional person, there will be tears so have a box of tissues…or two…nearby.
Knight’s story hit a soft spot in my heart. I’ve been in his situation, I felt his immense pain and the fear of loss, only my story had a happier ending. I cried so many tears for the Cole family and their friends. It came as a shock and was expected but at the same time it was completely unexpected. I grew to love these characters along the way, and when you see something so detrimental and tragic happen to one of them, of course the tears are going to come. My heart broke in the worst way.
Overall, this was a great story! I found myself staying up all night to binge this one in complete silence. I shed my tears, I snorted my laughs, and I felt the pain. I don’t know how it’s possible but LJ Shen rips the emotions right out of me every damn time! I can’t even comprehend it all. I’m still feeling such an array of emotions, its freaking crazy thinking I’m this upset over fictional characters. So before I spoil the storyline, I’m going to end this review. If you are looking for an ugly cry friends to lovers romance, I highly recommend Broken Knight by LJ Shen.
-Alecia @ The Staircase Reader
This is the most beautiful yet heartbreaking story I have ever read.
I thought I was ready, but nothing could have prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster that I had experienced reading Broken Knight.
I will be honest, I had high expectations for this book because of the hype and the fact that LJ Shen gets better and better with every book that she releases. Let me just say that Broken Knight went far beyond my expectations. I’ve read a lot of books, but this one made me feel…different. It was beautifully written and words aren’t enough to describe how exceptional this book is. Broken Knight is highly emotional and it made me feel the kind of heartache that won’t let you sleep, leave you dazed, and you can physically feel the pain of the characters. LJ Shen surely has a way with words and every line draws you in. It evoked series of emotions that left me gasping for air. I cursed, smiled, swooned, laughed, and bawled my eyes out. I had to stop countless of times to take a breather and absorb everything I just read. I loved how Luna and Knight developed into such great characters at the end of the book. I enjoyed watching them grow, make mistakes and learn from them. Luna Rexroth and Knight Cole are not perfect, but that’s what made this story more realistic and relatable. I held on to them for dear life and shared their griefs. While reading the book, I didn’t view Knight Cole or Luna Rexroth as mere fictional characters. Every word breathe life into them making them no less than real human beings. Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth now hold a very special place in my heart.
The lessons I’ve learned from this book are not something that I will forget after I’m done reading it. LJ Shen’s words of wisdom are already carved on my heart.
Let me just say that Broken Knight was worth the wait, it lived up to the hype, and I will be needing months to recover from this book.
Broken Knight is truly a tour de force and I highly recommend it
I can’t deny Broken Knight is a great book. You know what you are getting into with this book if for no other reason the word tragedy is in the blurb and tragedy is what you will find. A bit too much for me. This book hit me hard and I cried all the tears, but it was shrouded in too much death destruction and despair for me to truly enjoy it. There were times I wanted to celebrate for Luna at her success and growth… times when I could not love or hate Knight more…times when Luna and Daria and their friendship made me want to cheer…times when I wanted to relish in the ways Vaughn was like his father Vicious…but those moments were so fleeting and overshadowed by the tragedy that I barley felt like I was getting a breath of air before being swallowed by the crashing waves. It comes from all sides in this story and I guess I just maybe one less thing seemed to be wrong or go wrong or was balanced with a little more of the good stuff so that I was not emotionally wrecked. I don’t mind sad or tragic but too much is just too much. I do think it was written and told the way in needed to be, but the clouds don’t lift until the very end and while the HEA was great and I felt “good” at the end I also felt drained. It does not help that there was so much anticipation built up around its release that I felt the need to get it and read it as fast as possible. I wish I would have taken maybe a week to read it instead of just 2 days. Its not suspenseful in the way you don’t want to put it down and I got emotionally invested in a way that it deserved to be read, felt, and experienced not rushed. I also maybe rushed it a bit because I wanted to get to the part that I knew wouldn’t hurt so much. A great read and recommend if you are looking for an ugly cry.
I wish I could give this book so many more than FIVE STARS! Knight Jameson Cole…he may have just stolen the top spot of LJ Shens leading men in my romantic book! Such a fierce caregiver, friend, son, man…I adore that beautifully Broken Knight!
Moonshine is the sweetest, fiercest, loyal though not perfect female lead. I love her almost as much as Knight! Her time with Rosie, oh my heart!
I can’t think of a single thing about this book I’d change and I usually shy away from ugly cry books because I wear my heart on my sleeve and can’t take it lol
I don’t regret a single tear, sob, heartache. This book was simply perfection and I’m so sad it’s over! Wish I could read it for the first time all over again!
Seriously, I highly recommend this book, author, series!
I was nervous to read this book. I knew it would throw me back into Dean and Rosie’s story, and I wasn’t ready.
There are so many things to say about Luna and Knight. Flawed, hurt, and broken, but so incredibly beautiful. The tears I shed and emotions I felt while reading their story will stay with me for quite some time.
L.J. Shen is going to break you with this book, but she will also mend you, like only she can.
Oh man what an emotional roller coaster. There’s a lot that goes on and some parts I wanted to throw my iPad across the room in frustration. I was going back and forth in the middle because there’s just so much lack of communication and it seems to be a common theme with this series, but at the end of the day, they’re still teenagers/young adults and it’s fiction. I say the last 20% got me to come around and had me all up in my feelings. Overall, I enjoyed it and I love how everyone is involved and one big family.
This book needs a warning because my eyes never stayed dried!! what an amazing book Knight is just the perfect broken hero! Luna was simply beyond words, I can sit here and tell you how much I loved it, but it won’t be enough! these characters and story will stay with me forever! I can’t wait to see what LJ does for the next book!.
You can always count on LJ Shen to deliver angst and this story was no exception. It may be her most angst worthy to date. I did not realize that the main character, Knight, is the son of Dean and Rosie (whose story I just read). I was devastated by the trajectory of Rosie’s story. It is one thing to make assumptions about what happened to Rosie after her and Dean’s book but another to see it unfold page by page.
I was completely captivated by Knight and Luna. They were such complex characters with such a complicated history. This is definitely a must-read but I would recommend reading some of Shen’s earlier books that lead up to this one.
Put Kleenex on your grocery list! You are gonna need it to read this book! I literally cried one page, and laughed the next. Luna and Knight were perfectly imperfect. Knight was literally her knight. He protected her from everything but himself. Luna was a selective mute. She wouldn’t speak because of something she thought was wrong with her when it was a fault in another. I loved how she fought that.
Knight was a mess. He had taken to drugs and alcohol to deal with his problems. I loved that even in that his family refused to give up on him. I loved that we saw more of Trent and Dean in this book. Both struggling to deal with loss. Their wives though supported them, and were always looking to help them. This book really showed that friends supported one another. That families were built on so much more than the ones living under your own roof.
I truly loved this book! It’s one of my favorites of this year. It was angsty, and I love that. You don’t want to miss this one! You don’t have to read the others to follow this one, but I would suggest you do! I love all of them!
This book really caught my attention with all the chatter on FB. I’ve only read one other book by this author. And I like her writing style and the content of which she writes. This was such an emotional story. The narrators really brought the story to life. Have your Kleenex ready for this one.
