Talk about the feels! Loved it.
I loved this book. And hated it a bit too. It was just so overwhelming. An emotional roller-coaster of epic proportions. All the feelings, all the time. Exhausting in the very best way.
In other words, this is an awesome read!
This is a story about growing up. About second chances, self-discovery and acceptance. It’s about two damaged and imperfect people, on the cusp of adulthood, trying to find their way back to each other while also finding themselves. There are so many layers to discover in this story, and so many depths to uncover. Frankly, it’s quite devastating in a way. In a bloody great way.
I adored the characters. Both Luna and Knight were instantly lovable. The fact that Knight could be such an insensitive douche and still so utterly endearing is a true testament to Shen’s talent. Because he was such an a**hole! Over and over and over. But no matter what sh*t he said or did, Shen always counterbalanced that with his (often hilarious) inner monologue or some sh*tty circumstances that managed to keep Knight from tipping over into the totally unforgivable wanker-territory. In other words, pretty inspired writing.
So I loved this story, I really did. It sucked me right in and wouldn’t let go. I laughed and cried and felt with the characters. And I was irritated as all h*ll. There couldn’t be anyone else as h*ll-bent on sabotaging for themselves as Luna and Knight. The complete lack of communication and the level of misunderstanding those two managed to pull off was extremely annoying. But despite that and despite the ups and downs, this is a great, great story. This is my first read by L.J. Shen, but there will definitely be many more.

I… what… LJ Shen just… OMG… I love this book so much, hands down the greatest book leigh has ever created!
I just wanna start by saying no matter how many words I put into this review it will never EVER be enough to perfectly describe just how incredible this book is. My words won’t be able to do it any justice but I’ll try my hardest to come close.
Knight and Luna are so much more than I could ever imagine. They’re both broken in similar yet different ways. They’re best friends with a connection so intense you could just melt. Once you meet them, you fall. Once you get to know them and read their story you fall so hard you don’t know if you’ll ever get back up. Their friendship is one every person should have at least once in their life. It’s beautiful and pure and absolutely mesmerising, I just omg. Luna and Knight are without a doubt my favourite characters. Trent has always been and will forever be my favourite hothole but his daughter, oh my god. I love her so much.
The storyline blew me away, seriously. I’m a lover of this author’s books but wow, this book was just so much more than the others.
Did I cry? I sure did.
Did I laugh? Hell Yeah.
Did I feel so many emotions I couldn’t deal? YES YES AND YES.
I was an absolute mess throughout the whole book.
LJ is truly a phenomenal writer. She outdoes herself on every new release especially this one. She has a way of making you feel every possible emotion possible and loving every second of it.
BK hooked me, consumed me and took over every single thought in my mind. It’s so much more than anyone could ever imagine. I will forever remember this moment, the first time reading this book it was an experience I’ll never forget.
Broken Knight is heartbreaking, angsty and packed full of emotions. It’s RAW and beautiful and one you’re going to want to read. It’s a story of love, forgiveness and friendships.
Hands down THE BEST BOOK OF 2019
Oh man, this book
I adored every word. I found myself highlighting entire paragraphs. There were times when the sarcasm was so on point I wanted to fist bump the characters Lol.
Ever read a book that LITERALLY (read the book, you’ll see) taught you a lesson? Life has been handing me lemons lately and instead of making lemonade, I’ve been sulking (I’m not proud) but I stumbled upon this brilliant book at the perfect time in my life. I’m tempted to print out a specific paragraph, hang it and read it everytime I think life is being too rough on me.
Read this book dude, seriously.
You won’t regret it. Hands down, one of my top reads of 2019.
This book..It was being sucked into a rabbit hole and never wanting to get out. I mean I was sucked in from page one and couldn’t put it down. Knight and Luna had a connection from day one, maybe even in the womb..It could be possible I suppose. He was her knight and protected her from the bullies. He was always around helping her out. Knight was the football star and God. All the girls want him and all the guys want to be friends with him. They can’t understand why he wants to hang out with the weird girl who doesn’t talk…(this is mostly the girls). Luna has her reasons for this and one day it just breaks, surprising everyone but Knight. He knew it would happen cause he has faith in his girl. There’s more then meets the eye with him. You find out so much about him in this book. His story will seriously break your heart. I mean, the whole thing with his mom had me bawling my eyes out and barely recovering by the end of the book. It was beyond heartbreaking. There was also the way that he handled stress.. this wasn’t good at all, I mean we almost lost him. He has some serious issues that he needs to overcome and this includes how he treats Luna while in a relationship. It takes his mom with some strong words to make him realize he needs to change for her. I loved and hated how things worked out in this book. This book will pull on your heartstrings throughout the entire book.. I mean I went thru a lot of emotions while reading it. This book is seriously one of the best I’ve read this year. You definitely need to pick up this book and read it immediately!!!!!!!!!
ACHINGLY, CRUSHINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Torn to shreds then mended back… bearly.
Thus is the journey we’re trusted into with Broken Knight.
You will break along with Knight.
Be prepared with tissues and chocolate… maybe even a glass of red.
Once again L. J. Shen gives us her best, and her best is a masterpiece, but never enough, because we always want more.
The Hot Holes maintain their reigning title in this epic installment.
My poor Broken Knight
Never in forever have I highlighted so many
notes ….This one is my top favorite,“Moonshine,” he
whispered. “You fill up the empty, dark space—like the
moon owns the sky. It is quiet. It is bright. It doesn’t need
to be a ball of flame to be noticed. It simply exists.
It forever glows.”
It was messy, it was sweet, it was all kinds of everything.
I laughed, I cried, and then I was happy again. I can’t
believe this book, this author has made me feel like this
again about one of her books.
Does this book really need another review? I will agree that this is Shen’s best book to date, she really captured the feels in this and put her readers through purgatory before she delivered us an HEA.
The title of the book was apt , Knight was a complex character, Broken, needy, yet too proud to seek help in the people that were there for him.
Have the tissues to hand. You will need them. This book is a top contender for 2019 in the ugly cry category.
Read it.
Perfect!
“Always. Whenever. Forever. I choose you.”
I have no words to describe what I’ve just been through with this book.
I’ll be back to write a review when my head has stopped pounding from sobbing and my heart has stopped aching.
Ride or die.
If I could give 10-star for a book, this one would definitely deserve it!
Broken Knight is the 2nd standalone book in the All Saint High series. You don’t need to read book 1, but I’d suggest you read the original Sinners of Saint series for background stories of the first generation (especially Ruckus and Scandalous).
I’ve been waiting for this book since LJ Shen announced the spin-off series from my favorite Sinners of Saint series, in which the main characters of the new series were first introduced as babies. And I was not disappointed with both books in the new series so far! You know sometimes you tend to be more careful with all the hype, but this book has really exceeded my expectation. It’s a captivating story of love, family and friendships, of healing physically and emotionally, of life and death. I’ve read all LJ Shen’s books, and I have to say she has yet again set the bar so high, I haven’t read anything that I did not enjoy from her.
Every time I’ve turned a page, I could not predict what would come next. It kept me on reading and reading, until 4am and I still didn’t want to put it down. I cried, I laughed, I swooned, and then cried some more. It has brought me on an emotional rollercoaster, all the feels, and yet I didn’t want it to end. Luna and Knight’s path to HEA was full of angst, heartbreak, mistrust, misunderstandings, yet their hearts were tugged by an invisible string, always bringing them back together. They were each other’s first love, warm, real, profound, comforting, and beautiful.
What I love most about this book is the development of Luna’s character. Her transformation was so smooth that you didn’t even realize she became a different Luna toward the end of the book. She forced herself out of her comfort zone, to become stronger, fiercer, more mature, more independent and reliable, and most importantly a solid rock to support Knight through his tough time, a complete role switch couldn’t be more elegantly crafted.
I also love Knight so hard. I wanted to hug him tight though his heartbreak, to yell at him for being so reckless, to root for him to go after the love of his life, to knock over his head for being an jerk. But then his eternal love and dedication for his mother and family, his loyalty to his friends, and his faithfulness and devotion to Luna have absolutely won me over. One of the best heroes I’ve ever read: so scarred and broken, so charming and gorgeous, so beautiful inside out.
LJ Shen’s writing style was full of creative wits and humor, layered with raw emotions. Each chapter brought a hidden message, each passage had its own deep meaning behind, and even little details were addressed at the end. I couldn’t recommend this book or this author enough! Once you try, I guarantee you’ll be hooked to devour the rest of her books, and always count down the day of her next book release!
Luna and Knight! so much complexities! from childhood to now, it was great reading all the little things between them. Dean’s character on here was absolutely riveting. realistic in his actions and how knight was a bit on his own when the whole world was just crashing down on that family. ugh totally cried and could not put this book down especially at that scene when rosie was seeing them one at a time. so much drama but absolutely loved daria being in the mix of this story. all the things knight and luna overcame. and the bits and pieces with Vaughn and putting pieces together with Dean and the other guys since I made sure to read that series before beginning this one. reading Dean’s story with Luna to Luna’s story about dean on top of everything else that’s going on. so freaking perfect. the only thing that rubbed me a little off was that even though Rosie was planning for everything, that ending with knight’s bio-mom just seemed WAY too sudden for me and the timing of everything. still 5 stars though.
This is the first book I have read by this author. Excellent story. Honestly there was more angst and misunderstandings due to refusal to communicate in this book than I like. (My personal preference.) But I cant even take a single star away for it. The writing is superb. The characters are flawed, broken, repaired, angry, confused, protective, loving and loyal all rolled up together in exquisite packages. The serious and heartbreaking issues they each deal with are written with flawless insight. This story brought me tears, laughter, pain and joy in equal measures. Well done. I will definitely be looking for more novels by this author.
I almost didn’t survive this so I would like to pat my back for making it till the end. I dare say Broken Knight is L.J. Shen’s topmost angsty read to date. I feel like the rich and deep-rooted background story between Luna and Knight made their own love story even more heart-breaking. It’s like the pain and torture and love Knight and Luna kept sending each other’s way were on a whole other level. Ten times more raw and more real. Honestly, I don’t even know how I got to this point where I’m still writing this review. Suffice to say I felt sucked dry, all drained down.
Ffs. I deserve to nurse a major book hangover. Okay. Bye.
Amazing and tragic story! LJ Shen continues to amaze me with her story telling! Knight and Luna are fire! Their story will keep you on your toes and the development of their characters is spectacular. Luna and Knight have loved each other since they were children. They are both so scared and tarnished by their past that they do everything to avoid their inevitable love for one another. They hurt each other over and over again to try to move on but they are destined for one another. Life continues to throw obstacles their way. Will they be able to conquer their struggles to be together? Or will they be defeated and continue to reject their love for one another?
Billions of billions of stars.
How can you review The Best Book Of Whole Year and at the same time the best book in whole career of one of your favorite author? And how can you write a review of the book that is a spoiler mine field? And no review cannot consist of only omgs and omfgs… So these are my dilemmas with writing review to amazing, astounding, genius “Broken Knight”. So please forgive me for this short review but I tried to do my best to show to all of you my thoughts about that book without spoiling anything cause this book is best to read without knowing any spoilers and definitely not knowing any major ones.
As to main characters of this book, Knight and Luna, we saw little gimps of their story in the previous book “Pretty Reckless”, and they are in my opinion very unique couple. They have such an amazing connection that despite that their lives are full of suffering and tumbles their feeling towards each other trumps every bad thing and at the same time helps them in their healing and growing up process. Story of their relationship is one of my favorite and definitely one I will forever remember. And when you will finish this book you will know why they are the ideal, perfect match.
L.J. Shen has that exquisite talent in writing her stories that she always brings all the feels in her stories. All laugh, sobbing, rage, heartache, happiness and sadness made them just breathtaking ones. But with “Broken Knight” she just outdone herself. So prepare yourself for heart attack and few times strong urge to throw your e-reader against the wall and jump into this exquisite story. Nothing will be the same afterwards.
Not sure how this has so many 5 star reviews. This book could have been significantly shorter. Every scene/relationship/fight… was too long. It is the book of beating a dead horse.
There are no words to describe this book. It takes many twists and turns. The characters are amazing and make you long for so many things. I was enthralled as I devoured this book as fast as possible. Wolfe and Francesca are the epitome of arranged marriages and how they feel about it. The power involved with the families makes you cringe with pity for Francesca. The feelings they have for each other change throughout the whole story. My feelings were all over the place for this story. I hated Wolfe, loved him, hated him….. the constant battle of my feelings towards him were ever changing. I absolutely loved, enjoyed, was infatuated, despised, and adored Wolfe.
Wolfe, Francesca, and Angelo are the epitome of relationships and how people can feel. We think we know love and then we realize we had no clue. Their story draws you in and captures your attention from the first word. They have ups and downs all throughout the story. You have to read it for yourself to get the whole entire story! I cannot ruin this for anyone!
I highly recommend this book to anyone. You will love it! LJ Shen, you are amazing! Keep writing and readers will keep reading!!
This book was epic. I raced through the others in the series so I could read this book when it released. Then, once I had Broken Knight, I got caught up in the feels and had to slow down so I could savor all of it. The highs and lows were worth it all!
Wow. There isn’t a whole lot I can say here because I’m not going to let spoilers slip. But dammit this book crushed me the way I knew it would.
Again, no spoilers, but bold move made by LJ Shen. She did a really hard thing here, and I believe she pulled it off like only she could.
This book was, of course, just as good as everyone said it would be, but it was definitely hard to read, especially if you love the characters the way us true fans of the entire series do.
Knight is just that. A knight, living up to his name, and his title. He’s broken and it’s up to his lifelong best friend to put him back together. Luna is the ultimate girl next door, and despite all of their ups and downs, you always knew they would end up together.
KJC became a fast favorite of mine. I love his humor, his cockiness, while also remaining a total teddy bear. I love his temper and his wit. He’s definitely a slightly more hot-headed mini Ruckus.
Luna was also a very unique character, one that was hard to grasp right off the bat, but she is so very different from characters we’re used to, and I truly loved that fact.
I will say this, there were parts of this book that made me retch and tremble with anger, then squeal with delight. BUT one part, at the end, I actually really hated. I’m not saying what it was but it left me feeling a little uncomfortable. Maybe I’m not the only one? I need a support group for this shit!
This book was an emotional roller coaster, but one that I was happy to take on. Another fantastic edition to the All Saints High brood. I can’t wait for the next book in the series! Applause mixed with tears!
