When life throws a curveball at All Saints’ golden boy, he’s forced to realize not all knights are heroes.

I think I never ever cried while reading a book.
But broken knight brought me on an emotional roller-coaster and I was a mess afterwards… This book was sooo good but it also hurt me deeply. And I think that’s what made it so special!
Leigh Shen has a special way of writing and Broken Knight was just no different.
This book is a book in the All Saints High series and it features two of Todos Santos sprouses. Dean and Rosie’s son Knight and Edies and Trents daughter Luna.
Luna and Knight are obviously in love but life keeps them permanently apart and they just can’t seem to be together.
This book is the truthful, emotional, ugly-crying, phenomenal love story of those two!
If you loved Vicious and Co and if you love Leigh Shen, you should grab this book
I am wrecked!
This is book 2 of the All Saints High series by LJ Shen. The story of Knight and Luna. Although technically it can be read as a stand alone, I suppose, you should definitely read the whole series before to understand the characters the best. The characters came to life and the story really grabbed me from the start. I found myself thinking about this book when I wasn’t even reading at the time.
After binge reading the Sinners of Saint series by this author, I decided to start the All Saints High books. Being old enough to have college age kids, I don’t usually like to read YA books. However, I fell so in love with the “Hotholes” of the Sinners of Saints, that I had to find out how their stories continue through the kids. I have to say that Broken Knight is my favorite of all the books so far. I really loved Vicious and Bane’s stories, but Knight just stole my heart. This whole series is so emotional and heart warming. I never wanted this book to end and wanted to get through it at the same time. I almost couldn’t take it. I cried so much with this one. Knight went through more stuff at 18 than many people go through in their entire life. There were a couple times I wanted to slap Luna for her choices though. Knight is such a wonderfully complex character with a hear of gold. The way he took care of Luna for her entire life was just awesome. Thank you LJ Shen for bringing their love story to life. I appreciate the epilogue and sincerely hope we get to see Knight and Luna again. I am officially drained from reading this series but in the best of ways. Cannot wait to see how the story continues.
Knight and Lula have been friends since they were babies. Knight has anger issues and Lula has doesn’t talk. As they get older they both feel more but Lula won’t let it go further. She goes away to college. They hurt and love each other. Can they be more ? Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended. Loved this book so much
I’m late to the party, but OMG, I love this book! The writing, the story, the romance!
To say that Broken Knight was intense, angsty and emotional is a hell of an understatement.
I loved that this story was able to evoke a myriad of emotions in me and in a way challenge me.
Also, while I may have absolute LOATHED that one thing, I appreciate that Shen decided to be authentic and bring in the elements of inevitability.
That little piece of reality in a piece of fiction is jolting and something that even though I particularly do not enjoy, I commend the author for taking that step.
Life happens, devastating things happen and we learn to cope and eventually move on from the tragedy even though it hurts like hell most of the time.
This book, this story, this family was always meant to hurt and break our hearts and they did and I loved this aspect of that book.
Why the 3 Stars? While I enjoyed the books and loved some parts, I didn’t fall in love with the characters the way I had hoped to. Alongside that, I had a tough time with the flow of the story. It was hard to keep track of the back and forth, which in all honesty, became a tad much after a point.
At one point, Knight and Luna’s hate and disdain for each other trumped the love they had and it was at this junction where I lost the connection with them.
Then there was also quite the focus on Daria, Vaughn and the Astalis sisters than the main characters and Knight and Luna’s issues were put in the backseat.
What I did enjoy were the parts that were super high on emotion. Those particular parts were heartbreak on steroids and they left me in tatters!
Overall, this was a good read and is perfect for anyone who loves stories that are angsty, emotional, complicated romances that border on and off on toxic then this is the one for you!
3 Stars!
I was not prepared for this book. It totally gutted me and honestly was having a hard time moving on from it. I loved each and every dark moment of this story and even though I wanted to stop and I couldn’t. It was so incredibly heartbreaking and beautiful and I so love all these characters. Knight Cole will forever be a favorite and I adore him and Luna. I don’t even know what else to say other than if you haven’t you must read it but be prepared to be gutted in the best way.
Luna and Knight have been best friends forever. Since diapers. The two have always been a pair. Knight has been by her side through everything. Luna has been a selective mute since she was young. Knight is her friend and the one she wants but can’t have.
When Luna goes away to college things change. For the good and the bad.
The tension between the two, the love that everyone can see but them is there full force. Can they make it to a hea or will they crash and burn.
There were so many different things going on in rhe story line but it all worked. And the ending had we crying my eyes out.
I’m pretty sure I’m late to the Broken Knight party so I’m not going to bother giving a brief summary.
I don’t know why I waited so long to read this book! Or why I fully intended to skip it and go straight to Angry God when it came out.
This was a 4 star read for me up until the halfway mark, then it skyrocketed to 5 stars! All because of one, Knight Jameson Cole. He gave me all the feels! From his downward spiral, his sense of humor and the love he had for his mother and Luna. As overused as this phrase is…Knight Cole is EVERYTHING!
This book was EVERYTHING. Absolutely beautiful! A story drenched in love, heartbreak, and ultimately-healing.
This is book #2 in the All Saints High series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding of the series, I recommend reading this compelling series in order.
Knight is the best friend to the very love of his life. They have grown up together, the children of parents who are also best friends. More like family. So being in love with her is basically a no-no.
Luna has long known that Knight, with his outgoing personality, will outgrow her and move on soon. She is trying to come to terms with it and be grateful she has had him her whole life as such a good friend. Really loving someone and knowing you have to let them go is painful.
This book just did it to me. I laughed, I cried, & I hurt for the characters too. This story has a little of everything. This series is so strong and exciting with so many surprises! Always a go to author, this book is just another example of why I pick this author up each and every time. What an enormously epic read.
One of the best books I have ever read!
My first book by LJ Shen and it did not disappoint. I definitely need to go back and read the previous books in this universe.
I experienced so many emotions reading this book and there may have been some tears.
A beautifully written book – 5 stars!
Wow! Sorry that I’m late to this party but OMG it’s so worth the read not sure about the wait, glad that I finally read this amazing series. Looking forward to the next one coming out in February. Broken Knight is about Knight Cole and his neighbor Luna Rexroth, the little girl who is mute by choice, she is everyone’s favorite wallflower but to Knight she is everything! This love story is so freaking emotional the kids in Todos Santos are all messed up, money can give you lots of things but the saying is true, it can’t buy you, love.
Broken Knight has been on TBR shelf for months and I finally found time to read this amazing book!!
Like any Avengers fan avoiding spoilers before they could see the movie, I’ve been trying to avoid people talking about this book. Some days were harder than others, so I knew it was going to be an emotional ride and I knew Leigh had outdone herself when it came to writing the story. What that emotional story exactly was had me intrigued everytime I saw Knight staring back at me I came across him on my bookshelf, but somehow I had evaded the deep spoiler pits. I will be kind and do the same for you.
If you are familiar with the previous generation of the HotHoles; Jamie, Vicious, Dean, and Trent you might be familiar with their children. By the end of Dean’s book you are introduced to the main characters of the second generation (the TotHoles for differentiation) – Daria (Jamie’s daughter), Knight (Dean’s son), Vaughn (Vicious’ son), and Luna (Trent’s daughter). There are also younger siblings, but for this purpose they are truly minor characters.
Knight and Luna have been best friends basically since birth. She is a year older than him, but with her unique disability, selective mutism, Knight has been her protector more than she was his. He has been by her side for everything and vise versa and it isn’t until she realizes that she has feelings for him and is the one holding him back that she knows she really needs to let him go and live his life. This is emphasized when it comes time to leave for college and she wasn’t sure where to go, stay close to home or move across the country, but on one eventful night, that choice is made and their lives are forever changed.
This book is at its heart and core is about two teenagers who do love each other, which let’s face it, that age group has a tough enough time expressing emotions with all of the hormones running through them. Both Knight and Luna continually run into their own obstacles which is basically all of their own doing, but when you add in a mute girl and a boy who just expects her to know what he’s feeling because she doesn’t talk it adds another layer of frustration between them, which is great to read. They should be past it having grown up together, but these new feelings they have for each other just seem to heighten their overall emotions. How do you express how you feel when #1 you don’t understand it, especially when it’s new, like one day a switch is turned on when the day before the person you were with was just the boy you hung out with and now you want more? #2 how do you tell them when you don’t speak? #3 how do you really feel good enough when you feel damaged and everyone around you isn’t? These are just some of the things Luna has to deal with, Knight is an entirely different animal.
Knight is a typical teenage boy, living up to expectations, living to impress, but also living with a huge cloud hanging over his head. He knows what he wants, but he doesn’t know how to ask for it. Even though he has everything he somehow feels like it will disappear in a hot minute. His expectation is that Luna will always be there waiting for him, but he never expresses it. She should just know.
There was a lot of talk on who broke who, and again I won’t spill the beans, but I will say both characters are full and rich and everything I heard about Leigh surpassing her emotional depth within this series is true. This book is AMAZING on so many levels. Touching for the emotional depth of every character and discussing issues that should be discussed and not brushed under the rug.
If you haven’t read any book in this series before, weirdly enough I would suggest reading Ruckus before reading this. It is the story of Dean and Rosie – Knight’s parents. AND if you really want the emotional connection to make sense in the LeBlanc sister world than go back and read Vicious. It will give you the depth and emotional ties to everything in this book (and while you are there you might as well read Defy because it’s really the beginning and gives you a look at each HotHole through the eyes of Melody Green-Fellowhill), but that is just my opinion.
This book totally caught me off guard and I wasn’t sure if I could write a review because I didn’t want to spoil anything of this story as it’s best to go in blind. Well, it’s not very unpredictable but I just hadn’t expected for the author to go down this route when I started reading this book. It took me for a crazy spin and I came out a huge mess. It took me forever to finish, but not because it was bad, but because it was crushing me so badly. Prepare lots of tissues because I haven’t ugly cried so hard in a long time and I don’t think I have ever highlighted so much in a book that shredded me to pieces.
The characters buried themselves deep within my heart and soul with their bone crushing and heart shattering story.
I held on to hope until there was no piece left to hold on to. It was so devastating.
The Story:
Luna didn’t talk. She technically could, but she didn’t ever since her mom left her when she was still a child. She had no friends except for Knight who was the only one who really spoke with her. They both kind of grew up together as their parents were friends, and their feelings for each other grew as the years went by. But Luna and Knight were as different as day and night. And while he wanted her just the way she was, liked her because of how special she was to him, his advances were always stopped by Luna. She rejected him more than once because she felt their difference too deeply and knew they lived in two different worlds. Then she left for college and met Josh….
Thoughts:
I didn’t think that I could review this book, that’s why it took so long to post it. The story had its ups and downs but there were times when it shot me up into the sky so high just to drop me down so low I thought I was going to burn in hell. My heart broke countless of times – who thought this was even possible?! It hurt like a bitch, I tell you this much. The characters were broken, but so lovable. And I even liked Daria in this book. Crazy, right?!
Luna and Knight frustrated me at times because of their unnecessary drama. They both loved each other from the very beginning but they never said as much and although he advanced her a few times, he was always shot down by her for whatever reasons. Sure, some might say she had to grow up first and be stronger for him but he loved her while she was a wallflower so she didn’t necessarily have to change. But I get it. She grew from the experience at college which would have never happened had she stayed with Knight.
Luna was a scared, frightened, naive girl who thought her life could just go on like this, in her bubble with Knight as her savior. She must have known after all these years and his advances that he wanted her, so why was she too scared to be with him? She pushed him away but expected him to always be available to her.
Still, I definitely loved this book more than the first book (Pretty Reckless), but that’s totally my personal opinion because I just didn’t like the snobby bitch that Daria was in the first book. This one finally had a lot more lovable characters but I didn’t know that it was going to crush me, break me, and absolutely destroy me so badly.
The spotlight wasn’t always on Knight or Luna but it was a bittersweet and heartbreakingly beautiful story nonetheless.
I’m still torn with my rating for this book. There were a lot of five star moments in this story despite it breaking my heart. But then there were things which I don’t want to go into any detail because just a little bit would already spoil it. Like so many others, I was not happy with how the author destroyed a previous HEA in this story. I knew of her condition but still, there were ways, right?! When I know beforehand what I was getting into, fine with me. But after I fell in love with characters and they found their HEA I feel stabbed in my back with this shitty surprise, which was not at all cool!
There were times where it felt a bit dragging and if I only look at Knight and Luna’s story, it didn’t feel like a five star read. Only his parents played a big part of the five star feelings although it was heartbreaking.
I was debating giving it a 4 star, 4.5 star or actually a 5 star rating. Well, I couldn’t give it 5 stars because of the things that didn’t sit well with me. I know it’s totally a personal perspective thing but that’s what it is. I couldn’t give any fewer stars than 4 because of the great moments, the touching ones and the obvious talent of the author’s writing – no matter what she did to her characters.
I had a serious case of whiplash with this one! Right when I thought things were falling into place, nope. Everything was broken. Oh wait, this will be the moment everything gets better. Nuh uh. Not happening. Once again it all shattered. Now I know for a fact things are going to work out now. Seriously? Those were literally my thoughts. But I loved it because I couldn’t predict it.
Knight was just as the title described. Broken. He’s been chasing his best friend, Luna since he was born. Even though Luna loved Knight, she never acted on her feelings for him. Bottling everything inside because why would Knight want her when he could have anyone at All Saints High? But Luna was so sweet and caring and also dealing with her own issues. Knight was so protective over Luna. He had the biggest heart & Luna was inspiring.
It’s a pretty emotional read too. My heart broke for both of them but more for Knight.
It also took me until the middle of the book to realize who Knights parents were. Which in turn made me go back to Pretty Reckless and see who Daria’s parents were. Then I put it all together that the Sinners of Saint characters were the parents or friends to the All Saints High characters. I haven’t read any of the Sinners of Saint series yet but I definitely am going to try and read them before the next All Saints High book releases.
This is my second book by L.J. Shen and I cannot wait to read more by her! She’s my new favorite author!
“ , , .”
I had to review this book again it just didn’t felt I did justice with my older one not like you can ever do justice to this book.
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW It took me only a couple hours to finish it but I remember so good how I cried, my tears couldn’t stop and I never cry and I mean NEVER. You know that feeling when you hear or read a story and you just shake, you feel it everything in your body that’s this book.
“Nᴏ ᴍᴀᴛᴛᴇʀ ʜᴏᴡ ʜᴀʀᴅ ᴏʀ sᴛᴜᴘɪᴅ sʜɪᴛ ɢᴇᴛs Mᴏᴏɴsʜɪɴᴇ. Rɪᴅᴇ ᴏʀ ᴅɪᴇ ʀᴇᴍᴇᴍʙᴇʀ’’ Kɴɪɢʜᴛ Cᴏʟᴇ
Knight and Luna their relationship is beautiful simply something you want to cherish forever. I’m only gonna say READ IT they are going to consume you and you will love it!
“I ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ғᴏʀɢᴏᴛ Bᴀʙʏ Lᴇʙʟᴀɴᴄ. Rɪᴅᴇ ᴏʀ ᴅɪᴇ. Tʜᴇʀᴇ ᴡɪʟʟ ʙᴇ ɴᴏ ᴏɴᴇ ʟɪᴋᴇ ʏᴏᴜ. Nᴏᴛʜɪɴɢ ʟɪᴋᴇ ʏᴏᴜ.” Dᴇᴀɴ Cᴏʟᴇ
Should I say something about Rosie and dean chapters? No I won’t because thinking of them I just wanna start crying again. I always like when other couples appear in another book but I wished they never did, but when I think with a clear mind it’s reality it happens daily and this was their forever
Lɪᴋᴇ ғᴀᴛʜᴇʀ ʟɪᴋᴇ sᴏɴ
I also loved how we got the whole Hotholes/Totholes crew we all love some vicious, Jamie, Trent, Penn and VAUGHN
Sometimes I wanted to kill you Leigh but let’s just say it, You are the best author EVER! I can’t wait till Feb 2020 Vaughn is gonna end me and I won’t be sorry.
My tip is have lots of tissues, wine, chocolate and be ready to die…

Oh. My. Freaking. Goodness.
I know there are other books in this series, but this was the first one that I read – and it hit me in the feels so much harder than I was anticipating. Knight and Luna’s story is love, hate, life, loss, joy, pain, and everything in between. I knew this story was going to be complex, but I wasn’t expecting it to be so heart-wrenching at the same time.
Knight and Luna are a match made in broken heaven. They are both so complicated and living broken lives, but they need each other to heal, to move forward, to live. There haven’t been very many books I’ve read where I’ve openly sobbed while reading, but I definitely did while reading this one. Be prepared for a gut punch that you can’t put down.
Ride or die.
I just love Shen’s writing. I say this with every book she releases, and with this latest installment in the “Kids of the Hotholes”, she doesn’t disappoint.
Love, love, love.
There will Never ever be the right words to say ,to tell you how much I Love this story and how unique and beautiful it actually is.
L.J Shen writes the most compelling heart wrenching and emotional books Broken Knight was breathtaking and my heart just ached for Knight and Luna. They grew up together, loved one another but they were in the friend zone and it frustrated the hell out of me why they just kept playing games. ..But I loved watching them both grow as characters and become worthy of eachothers love,it was truly magnificent. I am not going to go into the storyline too much because you have to read it to really appreciate and treasure the whole love story between Knight and Luna. I was still crying days after whenever I thought about certain scenes.
I am absolutely besotted with LJ shen’s words and her stories are always a must read, this book is worth more than 5 stars it deserves a galaxy full of them and the moon too.
Phenomenal.
Maybe the best L.J. Shen book I’ve read so far!! Though I think I say that every time I read one of her books lol. It exceeded my already high expectations. I was immediately sucked in as soon as I started it and found it very hard to put down. It captivated me and was extremely entertaining.
Broken Knight is the second book in the All Saints High Series by L.J. Shen.
“Moonshine, you fill up the empty, dark space— like the moon owns the sky. It is quiet. It is bright. It doesn’t need to be a ball of flame to be noticed. It simply exists. It forever glows.”
I simply thought that my heart was ready for Knight and Luna, but I didn’t know that they were going to keep my heart too. This was truly a masterpiece. This book clawed my heart out of my chest and kept squeezing until I couldn’t breathe anymore. My life line? Simply to read more and absorbed more of Knight and Luna. This book consumed me in ways I didn’t even know possible. This was an emotional journey that I never thought I was ever going to survive.
“Love is selfish. Love is raw. Love is unfair, and unpredictable, and unstoppable.”
Knight Jameson Cole was giving the most fitting name. He is shattered beyond repair. He is broken. He is spiraling down a huge rabbit hole and might not come back up. In everybody else’s eyes, he is the perfect human being; not at all the broken boy he is. He hides behind this perfect persona yet his self destruction is big. He is pain. He is angst. He is sadness. He is hurting. He is experiencing unrequited love but he is tried of chasing and being weak, but no matter he can’t help himself. He will always protect and be there for Luna.
“Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.”
Luna Rexroth is a force of nature. She is magic. She is quiet but is fiercely protective of those around her. She is an evolution. She has gone through a great deal since childhood to the point where she doesn’t speak. She is a force that is fitting for Knight as she protects him with all her might just as he does for her.
“When you refuse to pay your dues to love, sometimes the price goes up. There’s an inflation, and you end up losing more than you’d bargained.”
The powerful dynamic between these two is absolutely to die for. They will tilt your equilibrium because they are devastatingly and utterly beautiful together. Their intense connection was breathtaking. This was breaking and mending your heart. This was hopelessness and bringing back hope. This was breaking then healing. There are a lot of dark moments yet the light still manages to shine through. This is all consuming.
“I didn’t want to kiss her. I wanted to zip open my skin and tuck her into me. Hide her from the world and keep her mine.”
This book was draining in many ways. This emotionally consumed me. This was physically hard to read at times because it was so heart breaking. This was mentally pleasing because Knight and Luna managed inspire me once again. This was truly intense and so raw.
“For the longest time, I wished I could unthink you. Unlove you. Unbathe you. I think I finally can.”
Leigh, you are an absolutely so magical at this point. I don’t even know what to do while waiting for the next one. You are incredible. You can evoke such emotions with your words and this was a masterpiece. This was mind-blowing and heartbreaking yet it was one of the most beautiful work you have done. I can’t wait of the next one.
“Always. Whenever. Forever.”
