Fake.
Underneath the meek, tomboy exterior everyone loves (yet pities) is a girl who knows exactly what, and who, she wants—namely, the boy from the treehouse who taught her how to curse in sign language.
Who taught her how to laugh.
To live.
To love.
Knight Cole is everyone’s favorite football hero.
Gorgeous.
Athletic.
Rugged.
Popular.
Liar.
This daredevil hell-raiser could knock you up with his gaze alone, but he only has eyes for the girl across the street: Luna.
But Luna is not who she used to be. She doesn’t need his protection anymore.
When life throws a curveball at All Saints’ golden boy, he’s forced to realize not all knights are heroes.
Sometimes, the greatest love stories flourish in tragedy.

Another good book by LJ Shen. The real hero of this book is Rosie Cole. Loved her and Dean in their book and now In the story of their oldest child Knight. Luna and a Knight are a thing. Since childhood. But it seems Knight is bound to repeat the mistakes of his father. His redeeming grace is how much love he has for his mom. He melts my heart with his protectiveness of her. However, I was annoyed with his seemingly selfish behavior as he grew older. Luna is sweet but Knight has hurt her one too many times. Truthfully, they’ve hurt each other as they deny was lives and breathes between them. But she needs to find her own way and not be in his shadow. Selective mutism. She grows and leaves Knight behind and in her wake, he spirals out of control, she meets someone else, and Rosie is getting more frail.
So many layers to this book. Val. Dixie. A troubled teen. A newfound independence and voice. Broken hearts all over the place. Growing up. And healing.
This author does not disappoint! I absolutely loved Knight and Luna’s story. It was full of fantastic characters, sweet moments, drama, loss, love, life, regrets, laughs and so much more. There were times where I just wanted Knight and his Moonshine to just talk about how they were feeling instead of what they were doing but either way, it made for a very interesting story. I’m definitely looking forward to Vaughn’s story.
Oh Knight…
I have read all of the SOS & ASH books and Knight and Luna’s story broke me apart – and I loved every single moment of it. It’s one of those books where you can feel the epic moments coming, and you know they’re going to break you, you question yourself for a split second if you should just put the book down to save yourself the heartache (and in my case, the tears), but you know you can’t because these characters mean so much and that you won’t forgive yourself if you don’t see their story though – even if it means breaking out the kleenex.
Thank you L.J Shen, Broken Knight is in my top 5 and I can’t wait to meet Hunter
I read this via ku and am leaving my review voluntarily. This is book 2 of the All Saints High series and features the children from the Sinners of Saint series, who all make appearances.
Triggers: drug/alcohol abuse, remembering a gang rape, adoption, dying relative
**spoilers**
This story is about Luna (daughter of Trent s&s book 4) and Knight (son of Dean & Rosie s&s book 3). It is chock full of angst, bullying, heartbreak, love, tragedy, death and hope. But most of all, love. It is always there if you’re brave enough to reach out for it.
I don’t want to give specifics. You really should read and decide for yourself.
Personally I thought this book was as good as Vicious and Bane, my two favorites from the Sinners of Saint series. The author did a wonderful job crafting a story that was realistic and relatable.
Looking forward to reading Vaughn’s story in book 3 of this series.
This is the couple I have been waiting for! Luna and Knight are everything! The angst, romance, and humor is everything.
Childhood best friends, long-time crushes for one another. Luna, as shown as a child, has selective mutism. She talks to very few people. Knight is the adopted son of Rosie and Dean.
When life starts, they have to choose one another, but both need to grow still. Luna goes off to college and becomes a bit more of an individual and Knight stays, depressed at losing her, but needs to make it through this time without her. The distance, the angst, and the life situations each go through bring them closer to one another.
This book is great at linking the two series together. We get the children, but we get more of Rosie and Dean as well. Overall, it’s a great read and definitely the best of both series!
So this book had all the emotions. One minute I was utterly furious, than the next minute I was laughing, and than the next minute I was sobbing badly for Luna and Knight and other supportive characters. My absolute favorite line from the book was “Ride or Die Together.” I am definitely loving L.J. Shen’s writing and story telling styles. I know I am late to her books but definitely worth reading and listening them. Most definitely worth 5*****
“Moonshine,” he whispered. “You fill up the empty, dark space–like the moon owns the sky. It is quiet. It is bright. It doesn’t need to be a ball of flame to be noticed. It simply exists. It forever glows.”
This book … wow, it really hit me with every feeling I could feel.
Knight had so much going on, floating through his head, and weighing on his heart. I can’t say I wasn’t completely and utterly aggravated at Knight throughout most of this story. Now, I know that often when teenagers are faced with real trauma and stress, they don’t know how to properly deal with that and lash out in multiple facets. Knight did all. the. things. in attempting to deal with everything swirling around his life. I will admit, he did not handle things well.
Luna seemed to have such a beautiful soul. The moment when she first speaks to her father … oh mylanta — my heart was so full. As she moves through her life, I can feelhow conflicted she is in her feelings. She has spent so much of her life devoted to Knight, and communicating mostly to him, but now she wanted someone who would treat her better (rightly so, Knight was acting all sorts of a fool!). As Luna began truly exploring who she was, what she wanted, and finally seeing her full worth – that journey was great to see.
There were so many things that happened that truly pulled me through the story, but I hesitate on speaking to them in regards to spoiling the story for you. This one hit all my soft spots and I really connected to the insecurities within the characters. The characters were quite young when this all begins, so watching them attempt to navigate teenager life and deal with the trauma in their lives felt real to me — they messed up, they fought, they drifted apart, but then they grew.
One of my favorite reads for the Sinners’ kids.
What a fabulous read. After reading Pretty Reckless I vowed nor to continue reading this series till it was complete. I waited but why soo long I now ask myself.
Knight and Luna were always going to end up together but this is the story of how. So many twists and turns, it was like a rollercoster, all adding to a really great book. Loved it.
This book… WRECKS me!!! Luna & Knight’s journey is perfectly imperfect! The individual struggles to become whole before they can become one together are what make this story so great. I love how Luna lets go and comes into her own without seeking forgiveness. That was the most important point that makes Luna a strong female lead. Add onto that her sacrifice to help those she loves, and you’ve got an incredible female lead. Knight, although misguided, knows what he wants, and with guidance from likely and unlikely persons in his journey to come into his own fully.
This story is one I’ve already come back to multiple times because it is heartbreakingly perfect.
And did I mention that the sexy screens are SO steamy and bookmark worthy
A MUST READ FOR 2019
Ok, I love LJ Shen! I kind of want to marry her words.
Broken Knight is the second story in the All Saints High series where the babies of the Hotholes are growing up to love, loss, and insanity. Just like all her other books, this one will get you hooked and make you anxious, angry, ecstatic, and a few other emotions as the lead characters, Luna and Knight, work through their issues. Even though I don’t really identify with any of the characters in this book, LJ’s writing brought all the emotions out for me. I felt like a live wire right along with the characters! That alone makes this one of the best books of the year.
Wow wow wow! This book was an absolute emotional rollercoaster. It was my absolute highlight of 2019.
I already loved Luna from Trent’s book and was super excited to get to know her better. She is such an unique character, that you can’t dislike. There were some moments in this book when my heart was completely broken because of her. Right from the start I loved the relationship between her and Knight. His name for her “moonshine” was so cute and that they spent their nights together was absolutely amazing. When I read this little part I had to close my eyes for a moment, because it made me quite emotional. Right from the start you could feel the emotions between these two. Leigh included some epic plot twists that had me completely shocked! Yes after Pretty Reckless I was already an emotional mess, but this book destroyed me. I don’t want to spoil it, but there was some important event featured in the book, that turned me into a crying mess! For several chapters! I seriously don’t know how the author did it, but the characters grew so much on me. They all have a special place in my heart and I can only recommend this book to you (but you should definitely read the whole SoS series and AHS series to get the whole emotional experience though, trust me it is worth it).
The relationship was emotional and heartbreaking. In the end I was a sobbing mess which is the reason why I would give this book more than just 5 stars. This book deserves all the stars In the world. I seriously can’t wait to read Angry God, because I need to know more about Vaughn. Luna and Knight are my favorite couple so far, but maybe God Vaughn will change that. We will see. I am super excited and hope you will give this series a chance, because it is absolutely beautiful, romantic, sexy and heartbreaking.
5 Always. Whenever. Forever Stars
Right now I can barely think but let me tell you something, this book is a ride that you want to take.
Some books have romance, others joy, others sadness or angst. Broken Knight has all that but it has something else, hope. Hope that even though things may change, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. That sad things happen to us all the time but the important thing is to know that the sun will shine tomorrow and everyday.
But it is also a love story between two souls who were destined from the beginning. Luna and Knight were made for each other, and even though their journey is neither easy nor simple, it is beautiful to see and walk with them, because one grows at the same pace. We learn things from the two of us that we didn’t know, things that we supposed but weren’t sure about and things that really surprised me a lot.
The book is beautifully written and L.J. Shen gives us such an incredible and wonderful story that it is practically impossible to put into words what it makes you feel. I’ve read that many people describe it as a roller coaster of feelings and I think that’s exactly the right description.
Your heart will break into millions of little pieces but then it’ll put it back altogether.
I promise you it’s a book you wouldn’t want to miss, even if you need an endless supply of tissues.
THIS book! It’s definitely my favorite. L.J. Shen’s most emotional book yet. It broke my heart. I am a mess. I was not expecting that. I didn’t even think it a possibility, but it happened. In sooo many ways! I’m not a crier, but this storyline got me. More than once. Quite a few times to be honest. I wish I could say the ending healed my heart, but it didn’t. I need more!
I loved Knight and Luna’s story. I loved their evolving and maturing relationship. Luna grew leaps and bounds in this book and Knight found the strength to break down his walls. I loved that they both did it for themselves and not for the other. Knight reminded me so much of his Dad. Gorgeous, witty, cocky… heart of gold. These baby Hotholes are living up to their legacy!
Speaking of legacy, LJ Shen has definitely cemented hers. Just when I think she’s outdone herself, she turns around and does it again. And again. And again. She is on fire! I have loved all of her stories, and I can’t wait to read what she releases next.
I highly recommend this book, this series!
Review by Lys
I overall REALLY LIKE/LOVE/ENJOY LJ Shens novels and I recommend them to anyone I can that enjoys these types of books (steamy romances). But I absolutely loved this one. Oh gosh, I was a mess reading it. I had anxiety from the get-go from all of the hype and not having any idea what direction this story was going to go…but I had to excuse myself from the family room to finish reading because I was becoming a blubbery mess. So many feels and now I feel lost because it’s over. I read it all in one long Sunday sitting!
It is a stand-alone but I personally think you need to read the Sinners of Saints series first (Vicious, Ruckus, Scandalous, Bane) before reading the newer All Saints High series bc characters overlap.
Knight’s love for the small, problematic Luna (who suffers from selective mutism) blooms at an early age, when Knight helps her getting her beloved bike back from Vaughn Spencer (Vicious and Emilia’s son), who stole it from her. Soon they become inseparable and, growing up, their friendship so pure and magical turns into something more. In high school, Knight has a reputation to defend, as quarterback for the All Saints High football team; Luna, on the other hand, doesn’t need to prove she’s someone different, but is very disappointed by Knight’s behavior who seems interested only in having fun with other girls. Luna decides to leave Todos Santos and attend a college in Boon. It is time for her to put on her wings and fly away.
There she will meet his roommate, April and Josh, a boy who knows sign language and with whom a friendship will blossom (and not only a friendship…)
I didn’t not like this novel but, in other ways, it didn’t even drive me crazy. I expected it to be totally different. I thought I was reading about an overwhelming love, of two fragile and broken kids who care for each other, instead I only read about on/off relationships, indecisions, and Luna really disappointed me. I thought she was a mature girl, levelheaded, one who would always remain herself, without necessarily having to “submit” to the stereotypes of rich and spoiled teenagers. Instead, I found a fickle, insecure, proud, reckless and almost bad person at times.
Who surprised me was Knight. Despite his addiction to alcohol and drugs (his father Dean was probably a “good teacher” in that sense), he is a sensitive boy, with an immense, romantic heart, linked to family and friends. Despite the facade as beautiful and impossible, underneath it is a tender person, who feels half loved. Concern about her foster mother Rosie and her illness, misunderstandings with her father, and the immeasurable affection for her younger brother Lev really made me reevaluate him. I also really appreciated that he agreed to reestablish a contact with his biological mother, Dixie who in the end did what any mother would have done: she saved her son.
Another positive note was finding all the HotHoles, the protagonists of the first series, with their respective wives: Vicious and Emilia, Jamie and Mel, Dean and Rosie and Trent and Edie. The author gave us a taste of our beloved couples and how their married life continued, and I must say that I missed them a lot!! Too bad that in the end she did something that I DID NOT like at all and that I will not tell you so as not to spoil the story.
In short, I liked the novel in its entirety, but there were also many things that disappointed me. That’s why I don’t feel like giving more than three and a half stars; and I’m sorry about it, because the story between Knight and Luna could’ve been really unforgettable.
Broken Knight is one of the most heart breaking books I have ever read and yet couldn’t put down. It’s an emotional, enemies-to-lovers, second chance book that you won’t stop thinking about after reading. My heart broke little by little each chapter I read and by the end, it was all mended up haphazardly after fully wrecking me. Definitely a must read!
It’s already been a couple of months since I read this, and my heart’s still shattered … I couldn’t contain the tears from falling and maybe I sob a little..this book was so amazing, I think I knew what was coming but still I wasn’t prepared for all this emotions.
This book was so amazing, so real, so heart-breakingly beautiful, packed with so many emotions, and it’s impossible not to love it, it will destroy you and make you smile, and you will enjoy every second of it.
I love seeing the changes in Luna, how she grew and became more mature, how she finds her voice. I loved Luna, she was everything I hope she’d be, and I’m happy she gets to have her HEA with Knight.
Wow, just wow. Shen sent me on an emotional rollercoaster with this story. I laughed out loud, I ugly cried, and basked in the love of friendship and family. This is by far my favorite LJ Shen book so far.
This book broke my heart and put it back together. It gave me all the feels. I laughed and sobbed and felt the love. It should definitely be your ride or die.
***5 “Always. Whenever. Forever!!!” stars***
“Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.”
Mmmm… I have to admit that i was a little bit prejudiced with this book…
For a crazy reason, i wanted for Luna to end up with Vaughn…
But hell!!! I was soooo wrong to think like that!!!
Luna belonged with her broken Knight!!! End of story!
Yes, their journey was a crazy ride full of bumps, misunderstandings and stubborness, but i wouldn’t change anything of this story!!!
Maybe, one two little things that broke irreparably my heart, but still…. Nope!!! Nothing at all!!!
“The heart doesn’t ask for permission to feel things. It simply feels.”
Well, Knight and Luna were always there for one another… Even when they were just kids…
Knight was always her protector and Luna was the silent participant in everything they did together…
Unfortunately, she had friend- zoned him and he couldn’t accept it anymore…
Even though he was the man slut of the school… Or wasn’t he??? Ugh???
And then Luna left him behind to spread her wings by herself to fly and everything changed between them…
“If you love someone, don’t set them free. Smother the fuck out of them until they realize they have no chance of escaping. Yup. That was the sentiment I was down with, a method I was willing to try.”
Well, this was a crazy ride and i won’t tell you more about it…
Knight and Luna had too much work to do to find their way to each other…
They ruined their friendship, they ruined themselves and their hearts, but still… they were always there for each other, even when they weren’t…
I love that i saw Luna to spread her wings and fly and i hated that i saw Knight to destroy himself in the name of love, even if he had his reasons…
“I didn’t want to kiss her. I wanted to zip open my skin and tuck her into me. Hide her from the world and keep her mine.”
“Baby.”
“Don’t baby me. I’m not your home. People don’t ruin their homes; they build them. They cherish them.”
The thing is that i hated too many things that Knight was doing…
I hated that he was reacting like that in the shits that life was throwing his way…
I was feeling him and his devastation, but many times he was acting like a real jerk!!!
And he was so unfair toward Luna when he was the one who was making her believe in lies…
So, he had to taste his own medicine to realize what he was doing to her all these years!!!
“There will be no one else, Moonshine.I will never let you get over me.”
“I’ve been holding back for so long, you feel like a chain. A heavy, metal chain. I want to rip you apart, Luna Rexroth. I’ve been wanting to break away from you for a long fucking time, but you’re stronger than me. Than this.” He motioned between us.”
The truth is that i didn’t like when Vaugh told Luna that she had to go away from Knight, but i think that this was the best advice that he could give her, even though he seemed cruel…
Cause when Luna got away from Knight and the shelter that her family was providing her, she managed to find herself and to become whole again… She took the risk and it turned out the very best decision in her life… For her and Knight too!!!
“Make mistakes. Be free. Be bold. Treat teenage as a verb.”
“I’m killing you, Knight? Have you ever stopped to wonder that maybe, just maybe, you killed me a long time ago?…
I died a thousand deaths before I inflicted the slightest of pain on your beautiful, tarnished heart.”
Well, i loved this couple very much and because Dean, Knight’s father was my least favorite HotHole, i thought that i won’t like Knight as much as the rest of the HotHoles’s spawns, but i was wrong!!!
He and Luna were absolutely perfect with their imperfections and i truly loved them!!!
I also loved that i saw their families for once again…
I won’t lie!!! I cried so much in here and i was so devastated when some ugly things had happened…
My heart was breaking for Rosie and Dean, for Knight and Levi, for Luna…
I would preffered something else to happen, but like in real life, not only good things are happening…
“Moonshine,” he whispered. “You fill up the empty, dark space—like the moon owns the sky. It is quiet. It is bright. It doesn’t need to be a ball of flame to be noticed. It simply exists. It forever glows.”
“Our love always had a pulse. Sometimes it was faint. Sometimes it was beating so hard I couldn’t hear anything else. But it would never die. It can’t. I won’t let it.”
I also loved seeing Trent and Edie and the relationship they had with Luna…
I loved that scene where Luna spoke to her father for the first time…
I also loved seeing more of Penn and Daria… I loved how Daria became a true friend to Luna after all!!!
And I loved seeing Vaughn!!! He was always so calculated and into the point…
Honestly, i’m salivating for a while for his story and i can not wait to see what will happen there!!!
Vaugnh and Lenora will be like a match from Hell, but i’m positive that I will enjoy every single moment!!!!
“Know what the problem with your generation is? You refuse to understand that love has a price. That’s what makes it significant, pungent, rich. It costs you anger, jealousy, heartbreak, time, money, health…”
