Broken Knight is the kind of story that will wholeheartedly destroy every piece of your heart, leaving you completely breathless as you struggle to regain control over your emotions. Tears will without a doubt be shed time and time again while inhaling this emotionally captivating story, so I legit recommend keeping a box of tissues close by and clearing your entire day before diving into THE BEST BOOK OF 2019!
L.J. Shen has perfectly crafted a unique tale that is unlike anything I have ever read before and had be falling even more in love with Knight and Luna. Their story is not an easy one to endure and the twists and turns will test your emotions in every way possible, but the pain is always worth it in the end. The level of angst in this story pulled on every single on of my heartstrings and brought tears to my eyes too many times to count. This story was absolutely unexpected and totally blew past everyone of my expectations. It was BEYOND EVERYTHING I could have ever imagined and I don’t think I will ever be the same again. These two have forever changed me and I hope they manage to do the same for you as well.

Best book yet to date by Ms. Shen. I don’t know what I can say that hasn’t been said about Broken Knight. It has all the emotions and angsts that makes it such a page turner. Complicated relationships adds to the fuel. This is Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth’s story and how they saved each other. I highly recommended this book even if it left me with a book hangover.
Review copy was received for a honest opinion.
Broken Knight…. Yeah I was so hesitant to read this because I had an idea of what would eventually happen but I am so glad I did!! This was another great read by LJ Shen. It was angsty, intense, emotional but beautiful story. I loved it alot. Knight Cole was a cocky, sexy and charming man but inside, he was broken and vulnerable. He was someone to love and hate but mostly love! Luna Rexroth was really sweet and just a really great girl- so far she is my favorite! The love and bond Knight and Luna had was intense and beautiful. I loved them together. I will say that most of my favorite scenes were with Knight and Rosie! This is definitely a must read!
4.5 stars
“The sun will rise again tomorrow.”
With Broken Knight LJ Shen delivered the second outstanding book in the All Saints High series. My thoughts are still a little all over the place and I really don’t know what to tell you. This book will make you fall like Alice in Wonderland, you’ll follow the white rabbit without a second thought and will find yourself in a world that will eat your heart alive.
“Dreams are just our reality on hold, Moonshine.”
First thing you should know: go in as BLIND as possible! So just stop reading here and experince this deeply emotional ride for yourself and not through reviews.
“We were never just cool. When we were together – we were blazing hot.”
Luna and Knight were everything I didn’t know to expect. Both troubled childlike souls, a match made in heaven, fulfilled on earth. Each of them have a feeling a deeply running understanding for each other early on that carried their friendship and blooming love through the decades.
Knight suprised me on so many levels, not always good ones and at times I was so mad with him that I could have screamed.
Luna is such a sweet girl, growing up trying to find her way in life. I enjoyed her development and how she learned from her mistakes.
Luna and Knight found their destined way to each other even with the rocky road they had to face. But love wouldn’t be love if we didn’t have to fight for it a little.
“Every day of my life, since the moment I’d laid eyes on this broken, beautiful boy, I had dreamed of him being mine.”
But Broken Knight is not all about Luna and Knight. There is so much more to find between the pages and lines. So much more about all characters of the All Saints High series as much as of the Sinners Of Saints series. I loved how we got to meet each and every one of them again. How they still work together, how their dynamic carries them all through friendship and life.
LJ Shen made me smile big through most of the book. Especially when describing Vaughn or other characters. I did enjoy the sarcasm in this book way too much!
So, if I’m such a huge fan of this book, why not giving full 5 stars, you might ask. That’s simply because it didn’t touch me emotionally as much as I expected it would. There where many scenes that got to me and I thought this book is eating me and my soul alive, but the last spark was missing to me.
“Our love always had a pulse. Sometimes it was beating so hard I couldn’t hear anything else. But it would never die. I can’t. I won’t let it.”
Broken Knight is a book with character, a rebel by choice that you can’t get enough of.
Beautiful Broken Knight it just seemed like the timing was never right for him and Luna. They both have so many open wounds and the only way to heal is time. They need to grow apart to get back what was lost. I love The HotHoles even just the little you get from them they still funny and hot as ever. The Tots are all a HOT Mess teens think they have it all together. Rich or Poor life is life
Luna mute by choice she figured thought her words meant nothing to anyone. She lived her whole like not talking. The time came it was either have a voice or let go. 17 yrs without a voice
Knight loved her all his life , he was her protector but who was his. He felt no one ever wanted him. Being adopted lets your mind wonder to dark places. The only mother hes ever known is sick and his biological mom is back to get to know him. He wants nothing to do with his real mom or that fact the other is dying.
FYI Best scene Dean eating out Rosie
LJ Shen Whats with you and Tom Brady lol I will let it slid because You did pick Aerosmith song Dream On
“Sometimes, the greatest love stories flourish in tragedy.”
” I didn’t want to kiss her. I wanted to zip open my skin and tuck her into me. Hide her from the world and keep her a mine.”
“There were two Knight Coles. One was mine. The other everyone’s else’s.”
“Didn’t make any difference that Baron was Vaughn’s dad-it still must’ve sucked to know someone was fucking your mom so hard she needed special walls not to wake up the neighbors.”
“The cat is tired and ,the mouse is diseased.”
“The sacrifices we have to make to put things back in order.”
“It was time to shed the dead skin of the person I was, and to become someone else.”
“I bet he carved his name on the walls of your uterus, too, warning off any potential future siblings. That bastard.”
“I remember that Juliet told Romeo not to swear by the moon.”
“Dear Santa, I always knew you were real. Thank you for giving me the gift I wanted, even if its three years and one week late. Yours KJC”
“It was like a parking space in downtown L.A. I’d worked hard for this spot.”
“P.S Soccer is soccer and football is football. Not the same shit okay bye.”
There are some books that you like, some that you love and then there is Broken Knight. Leigh Shen is easily one of my favorite authors. Her writing is exceptional, riveting, creative, empowering, angsty, funny and emotional. Broken Knight has consumed me in a way that very few books ever have. I feel in the depths of my soul everything LJ Shen put into this story. I don’t think I have ever been so emotional reading a book before. It is so much more than two half’s finding each other, needing each, belonging to each other and the sometimes painful journey to get there. Knight & Luna have a connection that can not be severed but they have to find their way. And it’s beautiful. The tragedy that they endure is truly unforgettable. LJS takes us gently through this pain and carries us through to the other side. Family, this truly is defined as all the Sinners of Saint and All Saint High and the love they feel for each other. This has easily become one of my favorite books!!!
“We break things all the time. It’s called life. If you don’t break, you don’t live. You don’t move. You don’t try. You don’t take chances. Breaking is a part of living.”
Have you ever read a book and wondered how the hell you are going to write a review that can even come close to giving the book the justice it is due? Broken Knight left me speechless . I have sooo many thoughts and emotions running through me, but never have I ever realized I don’t know if I can convey them properly. BK is everything we love about NA/YA romance and SO.MUCH.MORE. I tried so hard to read this book in spurts because I didn’t want it to end. It didn’t work. Knight and Luna’s story consumed me to the point that everything in life, for a whole day, is a blur.
What I can tell you, is that BK is a an original masterpiece, and a unicorn in its genre. It’s Shen’s best work yet, her greatest of all time! It has made my BEST OF 2019 list. It is a book that will stay with me for a very long time. I can’t wait to see where she takes us with Angry God!
LJ Shen!!!!! Omgosh Girl!!!!! This book was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!! You are so unbelievably talented!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing this book!!!!
„The sun will rise again tomorrow.”
Bow down. Bow fucking down to L.J. Shen for her mind, her imagination and ability to bring her readers to their knees. That’s exactly where I am now- sobbing on the ground, because Broken Knight totally slayed me. This story threw such an emotional punch to my gut that I can’t catch my breath. The storyline is nothing what I expected and nothing could have prepared me for this rollercoaster of events and feelings. This book is full of moments- beautiful ones, heartbreaking ones, a little bit surprising and unexpected, but also touching and heartwarming. Many times I needed to stop reading for a second, because my vision was blurred from the tears in my eyes. But after finishing this read my heart was full. Leigh Shen guided me through all the sadness and heartbreak holding my hand firmly and showed me that all we need in our life is faith. If we allow ourselves to believe that everything’s gonna be allright- it will be. Live fully, love hard, reach for what you want and never hold back- that’s the message this story carries.
There is no way to talk about the storyline without spoiling crucial informations. Besides, the best way to experience this book fully is to get in it blind. But I need to compliment the characters. Luna is such a surprise! Her evolution throughout the book left me speechless. I’m so impressed with her progress and everything she achieved, despite difficult start. She’s so much more that I imagined and I adore her. And Knight… He’s such a complex, it seems that he’s made of all possible opposites. Once we see him as a typical popular kid- outgoing, laid-back, funny and flirty. The other time we feel his vulnerability, his hurt and his anger. I love him dearly and I forgive him every mistake he made, because even with a crooked armour he’s a real knight.
I love how Shen described the bond between Knight and Luna. It’s electrifying, bone-deep and eternal. The friendship, the love- everything connecting them is charged with indescribable intensity. They faced many bumps on their road, but no matter what happened, no matter how big the setback was, they always found a way back to each other.
But Broken Knight is not only a love story. It’s also about all the bonds that could link people with each other. I was falling into weepy tears over the whole Todos Santos clan. It’s so amazing to see our favorite HotHoles in new roles and look how life’s treating them. I’m never gonna get enough of them.
This is the best book L.J. Shen has written. It’s poignant, profound and it carries a significant message. It’s also extremely inspiring. I could sing the praises all day and still I wouldn’t be able to do its justice. Reading this book was an experience like no other and with her flawless and beautiful prose Shen consumed my heart and my mind. This author is such a brilliant storyteller that I can feel her words deep in my soul.
I’m in awe.
‘Words are powerful. They have the ability to create a moment and the strength to destroy it.’
As a lover and teacher of words, I’ve always reveled in the power they have, both when spoken and when written. The way they reflect people’s emotions, teach valuable lessons, and tell stories that both resonate with readers and reaffirm how life needs to be lived.
LJ Shen is a writer who understands the magnitude of her words and uses them accordingly, creating dynamic worlds and characters who take readers on emotionally dense and angst-fueled journeys and the reason her books captivate so many of us is because she crafts every word, every sentence, every paragraph, and every page with the knowledge of just how much her stories impact her readers…to the point that they become so much more than a fictitious world made up of fictional characters – they become a lifeline, of sorts, and a way for us to identify, even in the most general of ways, with what these heroes and heroines go through and how life-changing events redefine what they believe.
The off-spring of Shen’s hotholes are a force to be reckoned with, just like their parents, but, for better or for worse, they form their own identities, based on a number of variables, and choose the paths they lead. For Knight Cole and Luna Rextroth, their pathways in life always included one another; from an early age, they were each other’s lifeline and Knight named himself as Luna’s protector, ensuring that all was well in her world at all times. But the unpredictable reality of life is strong as is individuals’ choices, so as much as these two seemed destined to be together, somewhere along the way, they became their own people, making their connection extremely complicated, and, at times, unhealthy given the magnitude of what Knight and Luna have always felt for each other but never seemed to voice with honest words.
Knight Cole personifies the pain and brokenness that consume him; it resonates in every part of his being, especially his soul, forcing him to see the world and those around him quite differently than they truly are. It’s clear that Knight was a lost boy and now an even more lost man, and while his childish behavior was both frustrating and downright infuriating, it’s his pain that forced his hand…that made him act out in ways that would cost him so much more than he could have ever imagined. And, it’s easy to forgive Knight’s antics because they were those of someone who acted without thinking, who acted with the wrath that fueled his soul, and even though I wanted to shake Knight, knock some sense into him, help him to see everything that would willingly be his if he just changed his perspective, it’s his journey, his need to understand why his path led him where it did and what he needs to do now that he’s found, what he hopes, is a new way.
Luna Rexworth has always been viewed as fragile, someone who needs to be taken care of, someone who didn’t have a voice, but they truly underestimated her and they continued to do so, even when it was clear that she may be quiet but she is beyond mighty. The way she came into her own and knew who she was and what she stood for was perfectly portrayed. In the past, so many people were so many things for her, but by the time her and Knight’s story ends, she becomes the one who holds others together…who proves that she has the shoulders to bare the burden. I have quite the girl crush on Moonshine.
The evolution of the hero and heroine is expertly written; who Knight and Luna are at the beginning of their story is most definitely not who they grow to be at its conclusion, and as a reader, this is exactly what I want to be able to trace…I want to understand every facet of these characters and the reasons/motives behind every decision made and every action taken. Multifaceted characters bring so much to their story – the layers that embody them…the qualities that define them are not infinite, meaning that as the story progresses, readers are given a clearer picture of everything that makes Knight and Luna themselves. And those characteristics permeate at different times and in different capacities, allowing readers to be as ‘in the know’ as we can be, so that we can look beyond the surface level facades that they exude in front of others and get to their gritty interior, which unsurprisingly, will be much different than their exterior shows.
Broken Knight has all the components of a noteworthy romance, and even though the angst and sadness just about did me in, I held on…I endured, and I sure as heck will ride and die with Leigh’s words and stories every single time!
4.5 Poison Apples
I’m not the magical unicorn Author that wrote this masterpiece, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to flub this up in attempting to relay the kind of workout my heart endured from beginning to the triumphant end of this book…
“You fill up the empty, dark space-like the moon owns the sky. It is quiet. It is bright. It doesn’t need to be a ball of flame to be noticed. It simply exists. It forever glows.”
Every emotion that has a name, I probably felt it. The second generation is no less frustrating, addictive, endearing, lustful, and beautifully broken than the first, and fans of the elder generation…this book will take you on a ride that I don’t think any of us were prepared for. It explored so many relationships between characters new and old, and Luna and Knight blazed an inferno right down the middle. My heart expanded tenfold, only to deflate, only to explode, and over and over it went for so many different reasons. It was a story that new readers will be able to appreciate, but fans of the Hotholes from the very beginning? A gift of utter and complete perfection for those of us that fell hard and now even harder. I cried for so many different reasons, and the sheer range of emotions I hit while reading only left me in awe of this series, this Author, and these characters. This one goes on the Top Reads of 2019 and I’m sure it will go on many others. I thank the Author once again for the honor to review.
“Our love always had a pulse. Sometimes it was faint. Sometimes it was beating so hard I couldn’t hear anyone else. But it would never die. It can’t. I won’t let it.”

Forget what Your momma EVER told You… Forget about EVERYTHING what father has tried to learn You all damn life BECAUSE when Broken Knight will knock at Your door… „EVERYTHING” will turn upside down.
Hands down Mrs. Shen, You just broke the system …AGAIN. Saying „I have no words to describe how much I love this book” would be so inadequate.…. seriously, my heart is empty and feeling very lonely… Maybe I’m almost 40 yrs old, and someone colud say that I’m full of bullsh*t because Todos Santos is only immaginary place and characters, but today I’m not ready to say goodbye for this story and for Knight.
The whole world already knew – Broken Knight is LJ’s bookish baby, so IT can’t be anything less that million stars masterpiece, right? But Broken Knight is so much more, L. J. Shen shamelessly created PURE PERFECTION with new rank, for every future book with category ” Broken Knight” and the rest of the stories which want to be… Broken Knight. I won’t tell You too much about Kinght or even Luna, about plot, twists, ups and downs, take my advice and go blind into this book as much as only You can be … blind. When the right time shows up – grab Your book, start to read and savour every moment – this adventure will be really speciall from the beginning till seeing „the end” in front of Your eyes.
Broken Knight is ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I’VE EVER READ and ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS YOU WILL EVER READ. Please, forgive me all this capitals letters, all „…..” and „!!!!!!!” because once You’ll start this book You will understand how I was feeling writting my review… after hooking up with Broken Knight.
Brace Yourself and Buckle Up Ladies– Knight Cole is coming, at least try to be ready for this journey…. even if You’re not !
I don’t even know where to begin with this review. Broken Knight is EVERYTHING you could ever want but didn’t know you needed. Knight and Luna’s story completely gutted me. It shattered my heart into millions of tiny little pieces, but also mend those millions of pieces back together.
There is so so so so much I could say about this story but it is just one those you really need to read for yourself. It is such a beautiful story and so beautifully written.
Knight is truly broken and my heart went out to him. He hides behind his walls, but Luna knows better. She knows the real Knight. She is his rock, his pain, his heart, his ride or die. Luna, oh I how I loved Luna. She may seem shy and weak but she is far from it. She is strong, she is powerful and as the story goes on the more she starts to shine.
Knight and Luna are two broken, lost souls who found each other and are there to heal each other through all the pain and heartbreak of growing up, of living life, of unexpected events.
To quote Luna, “The sun will rise again tomorrow”
This book is a MUST READ and hands down my FAVORITE BOOK of 2019 !!!
Nothing in the world could have prepared me for this book, teasers… NOTHING. I’m just in awe over the fact that Leigh did it again, she brought everything and so much more to tell Knight and Luna’s story. And there were just so many facets to it all.
The one word I would use to describe these two is destructive. Night and day, these two were, but they were thick as thieves and so damn loyal to one another. But in their teen years, vulnerabilities were constantly at the forefront. Instead of talking through it, they used other ways to cope with it, which lead them down this long road of uncertainty.
Hard lessons were learned, both needed to grow beyond themselves. They needed to overcome their fears and finally grasp every amazing that was right in front of them.
Leigh truly took BK to another level, incorporating all these different stories and tying them perfectly into one. Everything was connected in some way, bringing all the characters that we loved in the fold. Just digging their way deeper into our hearts.
I just about went through every single emotion possible, I laughed, I cried (more times than I can count), raged over stupid mistakes, screamed in frustration, but most of all I fell in love. BK resonates so deeply that it’s a story I’ll never forget. I didn’t want it to be over and I know we’ll see them again, but in this moment with this book, I wanted to cherish all my feelings during a first read-through, forever.
Broken Knight is a book that I wish I could read for the first time over and over, again. It’s truly a story that will always stay with me. Hands down, Leigh’s best book and my favorite for 2019.

I’m Broken In The Best Way.
I don’t know how to write a review for a book that broke my heart whilst also filling it with powerful bursts of love, light and laughter. It’s a strange feeling that’s for sure, but I wouldn’t change a thing about this unforgettable story.
Broken Knight is such a beautifully raw and poignant journey, not just for Luna and Knight but for all the characters involved.
It brings home the importance of family, friendship, hope, acceptance and unconditional love.
There’s no denying Knight is broken my heart actually hurt for him at times.
I think his connection and love for Luna has always been a deeply rooted part of his psyche. Even when he wasn’t at his finest that never came into question for me.
The same goes for Luna she’s damaged too, but her bond with Knight has always been her strength through the toughest of times. I adored Luna in this story.
This book sees their bond pushed to the limits through extremely difficult circumstances. It’s ugly and painful to read at times but also beautiful and all consuming.
They are explosive and bring out the best and worst in each other time and again. I can honestly say they captivated me from beginning to end.
Love is a journey full of challenges, but worth the risk.
Knight and Luna definitely have a love story to rival that of their parents.
Thank you LJ Shen for sharing it with us.
OMG all the feels!! That’s one thing about an L.J. Shen book – you know you are going to get all the book feels you’re after when you want to read a romance novel. SHE BRINGS IT!!
Dive in and get lost in this brilliant world. You’re going to love it!
How do you possibly write a review for a book which stole your breath, your heart, your words, your soul? I am going on record right now and saying that Broken Knight is THE BEST book of 2019. Not only that, but it is LJ Shen’s best work to date. She has once again slayed the YA romance genre with authentic characters who are so real and raw that you do not just read this book – you FEEL every single page of it!!
Knight Cole has held a special spot in my heart since he was first introduced as Dean & Rosie’s son in the Sinners of Saint series. I knew he would be different, I knew he would steal hearts like his dad, and charm his way into the lives of his peers, coaches, teachers, friends and family. He not only did this in BK, but his character completely surprised me at every turn. If you think you know who Knight Cole is – you are wrong! This man-child, who could get anything he wanted with his sexy smirk and charm, hides his deepest secrets and vulnerabilities. He is deep. He is broken. And he is passionate and loyal beyond belief. His connection with Luna Rexroth could be felt coming off the pages leaving steam in its wake.
Luna & Knight have a bond that formed at a young age and only grew deeper as they got older. They had always relied on the other for protection and compassion; but as time went on, their history, angst, emotions and impending futures all impacted their relationship, and their love for each other is tested in its most challenging state. Every childhood memory, every fight, and every admittance to their true feelings unveiled another layer to their broken yet beautiful relationship. The way in which their story is told by LJ Shen is brilliant, bold, and utterly spectacular.
LJ Shen does not hold back in this story of young, tragic, and at times unrequited love. She has created characters that are real – teenagers on the edge of adulthood who lose themselves to the lowest of forms of who they are, only to revive them through both the pains and triumphs of life and love. This book is deeply emotional, captivating and all-consuming!!
The depth that LJ Shen takes us into Luna, Knight and their families’ lives in this book is simply jaw-dropping. I was in awe. I cried. I laughed. I loved. And I cried some more. These are characters who will forever remain in my heart. They are authentic. They are real. They have marked my soul. Well done once again LJ Shen! I cannot even imagine what is to come next in this series, but I am ready!!

OMG… This book…
This is a “spoiler free” review (by the way, my advice would be to avoid any kind of spoilers, they would totally ruin the story, TRUST ME).
Waiting for BROKEN KNIGHT has been pure torture.
For several reasons.
This is no secret that LJ Shen is one of my favorite authors.
That RUCKUS is my favorite book from her, one of my absolute favorite books, of all genres and authors.
That Dean and Rosie are also one of my favorite couples.
But I also must confess that I was in love with Knight even before the All Saints High Series announcement.
I just fell in love with this little boy in Ruckus Epilogue.
And I was already TeamLunight without realizing it.
So as a huge fan of Dean, Rosie, Knight and Luna, you will totally understand all my (extremely high) expectations, but also all my demands.
I’m sure that, as fellows readers, you’ve already felt a really strong connection with some author, or some characters, at least once.
You can’t help to feel like some part of them belongs to you, like their story deserves some respect.
And you may have felt betrayed, like I did a few years ago, by a book.
So yes, I must admit this was one of my biggest “fears”.
Writing Knight’s story without betraying or ruining Ruckus amazing story was a huge challenge.
Because of all the characters, couples, pasts involved.
So yes, I felt hugely protective towards all those characters.
But you know what?
After reading Ruckus (my first book from this author) and all the other books, and after turning the last page of Broken Knight, there is one only truth:
LJ Shen is one of those authors who take HUGE risks, but always respect their characters and readers.
So, once again, I trusted her. I put my poor little reader heart in her hands, feeling, “knowing” this book wasn’t going to be an easy read, but a roller-coaster of the rawest emotions.
Because Knight Cole’s story couldn’t be a easy read.
Dean Cole son’s book had to be at least as good as the his.
And as a very demanding reader, I can tell you BROKEN KNIGHT couldn’t be more perfect.
Like his, your heart will break (your Kindle too, since it may end up crushing into the nearest wall, more than once…).
But this story is so worthy…
It’s just LIFE.
With its share of light, funny moments, but also of angsty and hard ones.
Knight and Luna’s journey is about exactly that.
When LJ Shen decided to write their story, with all the challenges it involved, for so many reasons, she really took a huge risk, a ballsy one, and believe me, she totally rocked it.
She will leave you emotionally drained, yes, but with the heart so full, you’ll only have one wish: a second ticket to ride this amazing and emotional rollercoaster.
I did.
I needed to feel all those emotions again. ALL OF THEM.
And what does it say about an author and her book?
That she did and astonishing job.
This book is exactly that: life. Growing up. Making decisions, good and bad. Overwhelming feelings, passion, frustration, heartbreak, friendship, family, healing, growing up, moving forward, fighting…
LIFE.
And I feel like my review is so lame, compared to this wonderful and poignant book.
Thank you, LJ Shen, you totally did justice to my favorite couples.
I may never recover from Cole men, but I’m totally OK with it!
Yes, you’re right, Broken Knight is one of the best books this year, a masterpiece.
Buckle up, and just… feel.

I’m sat staring into space trying to process and find the words to do this book justice. And I can’t. Broken Knight completely consumed me. It really played with my emotions. I felt every single thing reading this book. The happiness, the sadness, the confusion, the love, the pain, the disappointment, everything the characters were feeling…I was right there with them. The characters frustrated me to the point of wanting to scream, i couldn’t tell you how many times I had to put my kindle down and take a break. Knight absolutely slayed me though. I found him extremely easy to understand and relate to and he’s definitely my favourite tothole so far.
Ms Shen did the unthinkable and broke me with this book. I feel like she’s ripped my heart out, chopped it up into little pieces and then tried to put it back together again but it will never be the same. There’s no denying that this author has a talent with the way she tells a story but she’s really outdone herself with Broken Knight. This story was so much more than I was expecting. It’s gut wrenchingly raw, gritty, full of angst and the troubled characters are real and oh so easy to love.
This is a truly unforgettable book, an absolute must read and one of my favourite books of 2019.
Love—a simple four-letter word. But is it that simple? Love binds humanity together. Love builds connections between people. Love ties families together. Love is a term used to convey a deep appreciation for something. Love connects friends. Love has a flip side as well and it breaks and drives the human heart into the dark recesses of madness. Love infiltrates the line between rational and irrational behavior. Love compels people to be better and on the flip side, it drives them to know the worst of their own personalities. In the end, love is anything but simple.
LJ Shen tackles this complex relationship of love in her newest release, Broken Knight. Broken Knight touches every theme related to love: Love is fickle, Love is strength, love is family, love is friendship, love is nature, love is nurture, love is evil, love is broken, love is forever, and so much more. Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth are part of the many dualities Shen weaves into this prose of genius. Shen uses juxtaposition of motherhood in a motif which digs its way into the reader’s heart, and the recovery is one you won’t walk away from easily. She uses Knight and Luna as a beautifully constructed paradox of love and value of the fight that makes it worth the struggles. It’s a beautiful read with so much more beyond broken Knight, proving love isn’t simple; it’s worth every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears.
