Much awaited, much anticipated and ultimately exceeding expectations, this book crossed way above the hype to deliver in spades.
This book once again proves why Shen is the undisputed queen of Angsty Romances with lovable Assholes. Her uninhibited style of writing isn’t shy of baring the fangs and her characters’ ability to hurt is legendary. They’re AlphaHoles for a reason. All her previous heroes have been Demi-Gods with entitled upbringing in Todos Santos. They moved like untouchable legends amidst mortals in the halls of All Saints High
Shen takes centerstage once again as she shines the spotlight on the next generation of our favorite families. I think this may be her first book that made me weep. The last thing you would expect is poignancy in HotHoles or TotHoles books but Leigh manages to surprise you with the unthinkable fete. I wept at the heartwrenching plot-twist that was expected, but still punches the gut with a ferocity that left a hole in my heart. Here Shen shows her true worth as a writer. She doesn’t rely on unexpected miracles to save the day or change the constitution of the sharp tongued characters to make them deal with it.
“Yeah, screw you, Karma. In the ass. Sans lube. Sans spit. Sans everything.”
She keeps them human, which makes us readers obliged.
Life in its raw and real self is laid bare, nobody escapes unscathed and everybody deals it in their own way. Except the readers who cry and wail at the unfairness of it all.
Cèst La Vie en Leigh! For that alone this book deserves special star and the writer- all the deserved accolades.
So how does she make love sprout and grow in such hostile and artificial environment?
“It started with an abandoned toddler in a soiled diaper, but the plot twist was a boy with busted knuckles and a heart of gold…”
Knight Cole is the latest hothole of next Gen in this long line of celebrated heavyweights. Carved out with abrasive attitude and brillo-pad personality, he shines with all the spotlight on him. Wearing a cloak of indifference and a crown of football captain Superstar he basks in the fake “sunshine”
Inside he’s a broken boy with a vulnerable heart, hurting and screaming silently. Fighting against fate, he stumbles and falls many times, scraping his heart every time.
His opposite is a shy, optional mute girl who as been with him since they were four
Luna Rexroth is his neighbor, confidante, soul mate, friend, bouncing board and moral compass all rolled in one. She’s EVERYTHING Daria Fellow hill was not. Embracing, courageous, generous and loyal to a fault, they are like fire and water.
Their story is volatile at best, going through more upheavals than an ocean bed after a tsunami.
There’s forever action happening and mostly for the worse. Scathing retorts slash open chests, burning words char the hearts, flaming sentiments burn the bridges and vengeful spurned love breaks the ribcage to pulls out hearts and crush it in the fist
It’s inflamed, it’s hurting, it’s debilitating. The entire story keeps you on tenterhooks and fast turning the pages. Heavily pregnant with extreme emotions, these people will make you FEEL in caps!!!
One peculiar thing I noticed was that Luna is named very significantly. She invokes powerful love and equally powerful resentment in Knight like the forever pulling and receding tides. But as moon shines in the night, Luna shines only for her Knight from New Moon to Full Moon.
“Moonshine,”
“You fill up the empty, dark space—like the moon owns the sky. It is quiet. It is bright. It doesn’t need to be a ball of flame to be noticed. It simply exists. It forever glows.”
I think this is the most turbulent of love stories in this entire series. And that’s saying something after Vicious!! I loved Vicious walking in and out, Vaughan teased with his presence a lot and I’ll be looking forward to his story next.
“End the fucking, never-ending shitshow of Luna Rexroth and Knight Cole. The cat is tired, and the mouse is diseased. It’s a fairy-tale love story that took many fucked-up turns and ended as a parody.”
The whole book is breathtaking, I mean literally, you can’t breathe, so thick and potent are the feelings and there are like a gazillion of them.
There’s every conceivable colour in human spectrum present.
Angst, love, lust, heartbreak, loss, pride, abandonment, revenge, spite, bullying and there’s also tenderness, Loyalty, gratitude, forgiveness and brotherhood.
It hurts and heals at the right places, makes you laugh and cry at the appropriate scenes and you feel complete after you finish it
A complete pot boiler that entertains. All you need is a popcorn and a Michael Jackson meme eating them
5 stars for #LuKnight spirit of Ride Or Die
I refuse to give stars as rating of Broken Knight by L.J.Shen. Because this book is beyond something trivial and inconsequential like ratings and reviews and stars. This is the ultimate example of a truly talented author reaching out to the hearts of her readers and affecting it like a real life experience. I can safely say this story has reached never seen before greatness as the line between reality and fiction is blurred to nothing here.
You are not getting a single word from me about the story line. Because that is not important here. This is the journey of Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth. But the most important thing of this story is the words of L.J.Shen. The words which destroyed my heart and left me a broken sobbing aching mess. The words which healed the cracks of my heart and filled them with overwhelming hope and fulfilment. The words those expressed the darkest and scariest emotions to cripple me. The words those made me cry ugly and beautiful tears. The words those warmed me to the core and chilled me to the bones. L.J.Shen has undoubtedly written her most difficult, heartbreaking and perfect story till date. This story has brought me to my knees.
Knight Cole has broke my heart so many times that I barely kept it together. This damaged, vulnerable, sad, bold and caring boy has all of my heart. Is it possible to feel this much love and compassion for a fictional character? Well Knight Cole proved that I can. And I am so proud of my girl Luna. She bloomed into a pretty flower but with armors and weapons to protect her love and herself. She has unimaginable strength in her soft bruised heart. Their relation was a living breathing experience. Because I have not engaged with and invested in a fictional relationship with this ferocity and intensity never before.L.J.Shen will not let you sit comfortably for a moment. She will drag you through heaven and hell. She will throw emotional challenges and make you suffer before soothing the wound. You cannot predict the turns at all. My whole world tilted upside down way too many times.
My heart is permanently scarred now by the torturing, delicious and soul deep wounds inflicted by L.J.Shen’s words. This story is one of the most unforgettable stories of my life. Adjectives like angsty, mindblowing and stunning fall short to describe the brilliance of Broken Knight by L.J.Shen.

‘I didn’t want to kiss her. I wanted to zip open my skin and tuck her into me. Hide her from the world and keep her mine.’ –Knight Cole
On the outside, Knight Cole has it all, great parents, captain of the football team, and he can have any girl he wants, however, not many people know the real Knight Cole. Only one person knows the real Knight, and that is Luna Rexroth. They’ve known each other since they were in diapers, and everyone knows or rather assumes they will end up together. Knight is loud and boisterous, while Luna is silent but oh so strong. As the two navigate their way through life and all of the wrenches that get thrown in, one thing is for certain, through it all they are each other’s constant and no matter what, that will never change.
Let me start out by saying that I’m not sure I have the right words to write that will explain the magnitude of how utterly beautiful this book is. To say that this book takes you on an emotional journey is the understatement of the year. From start to finish I was completely caught up in this story. There were parts that made me laugh out loud, and parts that had me sobbing. Sobbing so uncontrollably that I had to go to a different room so my husband didn’t wake up. Every single moment in this book was so perfectly thought out and executed, and breathtakingly amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. ‘Broken Knight’ is by far the best book I’ve read all year, and the best book I’ve ever read by L.J. Shen (and I’ve read them all). The title fits the book so well, and every facet of this book was amazing. I also loved that we got to see all of the Sinners of Saint families, and see how close they still are after all of these years. You need this book in your life, and I promise, while you will probably cry your eyes out, by the end of the book, you’ll realize L.J couldn’t have written a more perfect book or ending. Thank you for sharing Knight Cole with us L.J, you truly are a gift to the readers of the world.
I loved the story. It was intense and beautiful, the characters were a little lost, a little broken and their journey to the HEA was rough and raw. There were moments that surprised me, moments that made me laugh, but some others made me cry a lot. After reading I was an emotional mess but I was smiling because the book gave me peace. Now I can’t wait for Vaugh’s book to see what the author has prepared for us.

I am ALWAYS happy to return a favor! Thank you again! Happy weekend.
Oh My Marx! Holy Hell! Sweet Jesus!! I have absolutely no words. Broken Knight is beyond words phenomenal! I could not put this book down. If my house would have caught on fire tonight I probably would have died because stopping during this book was not an option. Broken Knight is absolutely my favorite LJ Shen book and could very well be my top read for the year.
Knight and Luna are best friends for life, and soulmates forever. Their friendship is what held them together and their love is what tore them apart. Both broken in their own ways, never fully understanding exactly how to be whole as individuals due to their “mommy issues” Yes they both have moms who love them and would die for them but their mothers left them and that’s a pain that is not easy to forget. That’s a doubt that sticks in your head until you get your closure.
Knight and Luna’s story is angsty, and heartbreakingly, soul crushing, beautiful. The evolution of the character is this book by far has been my favorite.
Knight goes from this immensely shattered, heart little boy, to this strong, loving man. Even at 18 Knight was still a boy. Until that unimaginable wake up call he is a scared little boy who is too lost to face reality. He’s too scared to grow up, and face the problem he now has.
Luna the girl who can’t speak. The girl everyone picked on because it was easy. But what we don’t always realize as children,or teenagers, or lets be honest even as adults is things are rarely ever as they seem. We never really know why Luna doesn’t talk or can’t talk, we just know she can’t. She’s always made to feel bad for helping people or volunteering at the animal shelter. But again Luna’s journey in this book is not easy but it’s exactly what she needed. We can never love someone the way they deserve until we can fully love ourselves.
When LJ Shen puts a character in a book there is a reason. Every single character in her story has a purpose, and adds something amazing to the story. I think Vaughn plays a huge part in Luna and Knight’s story, and he maybe an asshole for doing what he does the way he does it but his intentions are good.
LJ Shen managed to rip my heart out on each and every page. She crushed by heart, and I swear I would not be ok. But she managed to put it back together and make me laugh. Shen has this ability to make me bawl my eyes out and then the next sentence make me laugh out loud, then cry the following sentence. I love an author who can make you feel the raw emotions of the characters you are reading about and Shen is absolutely one of the best at this.
What a devastatingly beautiful story, Broken Knight is without a doubt LJ Shen’s best book to date and definitely a top read for 2019. This book was nothing like I expected it to be. It was so much more and had me hooked from start to finish. Actually this book consumed me and I could not put it down.
Its a story about family, friendship and love, about grief, forgiveness and about living. Its about knowing when to let go and when to fight for what you want.
This book was everything you could want in a story. It was well written and detailed. The emotions will have you reeling as it takes you on a roller-coaster ride. You will FEEL it all and then some more. These characters will touch your heart in more ways than one. It was raw, gut-wrenching, intense and highly emotional. Broken Knight was a phenomenal masterpiece worthy of more than 5 stars. I cannot get this story out of my head. I loved it and would highly recommend it to everyone.
This book, Broken Knight, broke my heart and put it back together again, only to slowly shatter it to pieces once again. That’s the thing about L.J. Shen’s writing, it has the power to move you and it does. This book wreaks havoc on your emotions while showing you that no matter how excruciatingly painful all forms of love are – we simply cannot live without it nor should we. I think that this is by far my favorite book by her and Knight will forever hold a special place in my book loving heart.
Ladies and gentlemen, may I please introduce you to the best book of the year! L.J. Shen has left me in utter devastation and wonder after the experience that was reading Broken Knight. I wish I could read it for the first time over and over again. This book is beyond worthy of all the buzz surrounding it and more.
Broken Knight is exactly the reason I love to lose myself in romance novels. It is exquisitely written, heart achingly real, overflowing with emotions, all entwined brilliantly into an unforgettable romance that sears itself onto your heart. Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth’s story is one of those few books that you will recall years down the line and still be in complete awe.
Stunning, unforgettable perfection. There aren’t enough stars for this book.
Ohh man…. Where to start. Broken Knight was so much more than I ever imagined. I laughed, I cried, and at times I was completely devastated.. That being said, it still left me with a smile on my face. And a reminder that in life you take the good with the bad and pray for the best.
Knight the high school “It” boy has been in love with his best friend since childhood. As perfect as his life may seem he hides many flaws beneath his surface.
Luna is a selective mute, due to childhood trauma. While the beautiful tomboy has always had her best friend to protect her the cruelty of others, she about to embark on a hard journey to self discovery.
I honestly loved the HotHoles and I was so excited to read about their children. I love getting little glimpses of them in parent roles. But this series has touched me on a deeper level and I would recommend it to anyone. A complete 5 star read!!!

Oh mama. Well, it’s safe to say that Broken Knight… broke me. I finished this book two days ago and I still can’t function. @authorljshen you wonderful writer, you. You made me feel such a diverse range of emotions with your writing! And I’m not just saying I felt happy and romantic. I felt the anger, frustration, heartbreak— everything that each character was going through. I felt like I was there as a part of their group. Which was amazing! Here’s what I loved about this book: Broken Knight shows us scenes spanning over two decades. It’s mainly about two teenagers. But we get to witness them growing up. Their flaws and mistakes, their strength and kindness. We get to see it all. We get to witness their love for each other grow with them and adapt to them as they evolve individually. There are so many things explored in this book— love, family, friends, making each day count. It’s also about forgiveness and finding yourself. All these themes are explored so beautifully in this book! I loved it. I genuinely loved it! I genuinely suggest that you guys go buy this book and read it as soon as you can!
I can’t believe I’ve just finished my sixth Leigh Shen ARC… sixth! If ya’ll are looking at me right now, I’d have twinkling heart-eyes! I’ve been waiting for this one with utmost anticipation and now here we are.
This is Knight and Luna’s story. It’s friends to lovers and mature YA… There was even a time or two when I asked myself, “and these guys are still in highschool??”, lol. But seriously, its gripping.
Every book can be read as a standalone but it helps to read each one to avoid confusion on who’s who… Plus you’d enjoy the journey in getting to know all these characters. Everybody is awesome!
The storyline isn’t really something I haven’t read before but it has its own uniqueness and it’ll definitely keep you glued from beginning to end. It’s angsty and swoony and sweet and emotional. Sigh… this book.
I don’t claim to personally understand the troubles and tribulations each of the characters went through—like adoption, about selective muteness and dealing with step-parents, etc… but there are parts and situations that I can relate to… I also love that the story is family-centered.
Reading this book will make you realize that life is short… that communication is the key to any successful relationship… that there are risks in loving somebody… that it’s okay to let your guard down and let people in and to focus more with the good.
I love the book… the pacing, the wonderful characters… their growth… It’s not a light read but it’s definitely a page-turner. Once you start you wouldn’t want to put it down.
I’m excited for the next book to come out and hopefully to read more about Dean and Dixie in the near future. I’m so curious! Lol
“Love is selfish. Love is raw. Love is unfair, and unpredictable, and unstoppable.”
I knew this book would be epic but….damn. She has finally succeeded in destroying my heart and ruining me for all other books. I finished Broken Knight within one day and it is still with me. For the majority of the book I had tears in my eyes, the rest of the time I was a nervous wreck and in awe of such a heartbreakingly beautiful, bittersweet journey.
“I knew, then, that ours would not be a happily ever after.”
LJS captured the love, pain, angst, yearning, betrayal, heartache, despair and lost that comes with your first love. One chapter I had to put the book down wipe my eyes, take a couple of deep breaths and pour myself two glasses of wine. I did not care that it was 2pm, this story played with my emotions on such a deep level.
“I died a thousand deaths before I inflicted the slightest of pain on your beautiful, tarnished heart.”
Broken Knight took my breath away and is LJ’s best work to date. She has truly given me an unforgettable story with unforgettable characters. It will stay with me forever. Have a box of tissues near by because this book is a tearjerker but also filled with so much love and hope.
“The sun will rise tomorrow. It always does. And don’t you dare live one day of your life without basking in its glory.”
I always think after reading a book from LJ that there is no way she could possibly top it. But Broken Knight tips them all!! I am drained from this book. It broke me apart and put me back together. Flawless.
Leigh has a way with words that makes you feel every emotion she pours into her writing. Love. Hate. Heartbreak. Pain. I felt it all and more.
I am stuck with my jaw on the floor and my heart on the pages. This book gutted me. I’m so emotional and fragile after reading this story. By far Leigh’s best writing to date.
We all know the invisible pull Luna and Knight have towards each other. Am unbreakable bond. An inseparable connection. Broken Knight shows the true passion they have for each other. Their struggles and battles are out in the open.
I don’t know how I’m going to get over this insane book hangover. I don’t know if I ever will. By far my favorite read of 2019!!
“Always. Whenever. Forever,”
Another amazing addition to the All Saints High series. One that tears you up and spits you out but is amazing at the same time.
Luna Rexroth aka Moonshine and Knight Cole grew up together and understood each other so well even though she never uttered a single word.
This author has such a way of putting words together to describe situations and feelings so accurately, they don’t have to be complicated, often they’re not, they’re just apt. For example here when Knight is thinking this… “The sh*t I was smoking was obviously more powerful than a nice tall cocktail of bleach and antiperspirants.” Much of the humour is sarcasm but very funny in any case.
There is of course the darker side of the story and within those walls are a few issues. All heartbreaking but none more so than wanting someone so much yet finding out they’re not yours to keep or that you’ve lost them anyway. Loss is a huge element and I will admit to crying over some very poignant scenes that wrecked me emotionally. This author certainly knows how to make her readers become participants in the story and not merely observers.
A fantastic story that I highly recommend to everyone.
This is a hard review for me to write. I’m not sure where to start. I guess I’ll start with, if you haven’t bought this book yet, do it right now. And read it immediately. Broken Knight is the story of Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth. But this is so much more than your typical romance book. Nothing about this book was light and fluffy. There was trauma and tragedy. There was angst and turmoil in every aspect of the characters’ lives. We knew from previous books that Luna had endured childhood trauma that caused her to stop speaking. One of my favorite parts of this book was watching her character grow and develop and find the strength she needed not only for herself, but also to be there for Knight. My poor, misguided, hurting Knight. He had his own issues and his methods of coping with his fear of the future that were dangerous and downright deadly. Luna knew the man he could be and she accepted nothing less. The surrounding story beyond their romance ripped my heart out and stopped it in to the ground. Even though I expected some of the plot points, I wasn’t ready for the level of emotion and the raw honesty in which LJ Shen dealt with them. There is pain and tragedy. There is also ultimate joy and hope for the future. I don’t know what else I can say to convince you that you HAVE to read this book. This is one of the best of 2019 and EVER!
Broken Knight was everything and more. I devoured this book!!!
Two broken people… both battling their demons in their own ways.
“You fill up the empty, dark space — like the moon owns the sky. It is quiet It is bright. It doesn’t need to be a ball of flame to be noticed. It simply exists. It forever glows.”
One always hurting the ones that love them the most…
One always silently waiting for the words to form…
Ride or Die
That’s what it will always be for these two. Or so they promised each other that. But will life take them on a different path? Will the destruction caused by the Broken Knight be more than anyone can handle?
#TeamLunight is what Mom vowed to happen but life also has a way of throwing out everything that people had planned. When the candle that once had the brightest flame turns to a flicker then slowly goes out, Broken Knight has no other option but to try to relight the candle and make a stronger flame.
What an emotional book for me to read. This is the first book by this author that caused me to shed a tear! Fantastic writing and a great story!
When LJ Shen releases, the book world rejoices…especially when we’re talking an angsty page-turner like Broken Knight! “Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.”
#TEAMLUNIGHT
This book doesn’t deserve FIVE stars…
It deserves thousands and thousands of stars with the Moon and every planet in our Universe!!!
The best book I’ve read this year!!!
Usually, I take a little pause of few hours to think and write a review but right now my brain can’t slow down and stop thinking about this story and let me go sleep.
So, the only thing I can do is write a review and let my thoughts and emotions be free.
I found out for L.J. Shen and her books the end of last year.
The first book I’ve read by her was “The Kiss Thief” and I loved it.
After that one it had taken me a few weeks to read some other book from her and that was “Defy” which was the reason why I started to read and fell so hard in love with series “Sinners of Saint” and then with the new one, the spin-off “All Saints High”.
I loved the first book from this series “Pretty Reckless” and it has a special place in my heart and my shelf too.
But…
There are always buts.
“Broken Knight” is some new level and it can’t be compared with any other Shen’s books, not even with the other books from “Sinners of Saint” which I love unconditionally and forever.
Some authors get their popularity with one series and that’s it. They aren’t getting any better. Their books stay the same or getting worse.
And there is another but…
But, L.J. Shen shocked and impressed me at the same time with this book.
I heard from the Beta readers who read it that it was good, but I didn’t expect that good.
She really has grown up in her writing and every new book she writes it’s another level that you wouldn’t expect even in your wildest dreams.
I don’t remember when I was the last time highlighted almost every sentence in the book.
And I really don’t remember when I was the last time crying so much and hard while I read the book or through the whole chapter, from the first to the last word (you’ll know on which chapter I mean when you read it).
Thank God that I was at home in my room and no one saw me.
The first thing what I loved in the story was the chapters about Luna’s and Knight’s childhood and their connection through that time. It helped me to understand their actions.
The first thing what I loved in the story was the chapters about Luna’s and Knight’s childhood and their connection through that time. It helped me to understand their actions.
Luna and Knight are true examples of today’s society. They showed me what happens when people don’t talk enough or don’t take their life in their hands.
But, they were too young by then and they didn’t know how to act and after so many ups and downs they learned their lesson.
I loved Luna so much. I really enjoyed reading her point of view because everyone who had read other books knows that she didn’t speak and I finally found out what she was thinking.
That was one of my favorite parts.
They showed that inside mute girl is the girl who knew what it feels like to be happy or sad or jealous.
She made mistakes, but (here we go again) who doesn’t make mistakes?!
From the other side, Knight was everything I didn’t expect from the guy like him.
He was a true example of what kind of boyfriend every girl in this world deserves. He wasn’t saint.
He had his own demons but for the true love, he fought against them.
His connection with Rosie is something special and their conversation is the most emotional part in the book.
I really loved that Shen did include Rosie’s (especially hers) and Dean’s point of view.
It’s always good to come back to the old characters and to see how they deal with what life throws in them.
I highly recommended this book to everyone who loves heartbreaking romance stories because this one will tear your heart apart in so many pieces that you won’t know at the end of the book what happened to you!
I want to say one HUGE THANK YOU to Social Butterfly pr and L.J. Shen for sending me ARC of this book because you first shocked me with the news and then made my weekend became one the best I had the latest.
