Where is the 10+ stars when you need them? This book deserves them all. Broken Knight broke me and now LJ Shen has set herself for a big challenge, how to surpass her own bar, when she set her so high with this one. I am sure she will and so I am just as afraid to find out as excited for the next one. Knight and Luna story has all the emotions rolled into one story and all of them to the top. I have no idea how to put into words all the emotions I felt while reading and while listening the audiobook, because yes I had to do both on a binge to get myself sorted out, which I am still debating if I am. A masterpiece, phenomenal, heart wrenching, romance, must read top favorite list 2019 book!
Lj Shen never ceases to amaze me. This was a emotional- perfectly imperfect journey to go on with Knight and Luna. I think I went through every emotion, and was left breathless.
One of my top reads for 2019 so far, L.J. Shen has done it again but with bells on, this one will chew you up and spit you out, your heart and soul will be crushed before being put back together but in a different way with a different outlook on life. Yes there is angst and drama galore, but there is so much more to this – a story full of friendship, life and hope, that life is to be lived and nothing lasts forever, to live each day to its fullest and surround yourself with the ones you love.
Knight Cole is a broken soul, living his life behind his daily mask for most of the book, on a steady downward spiral. He has loved and protected his mute best friend Luna Rexroth since they met, but she keeps friend zoning him and his unrequited love is crushing him. It’s not easy to watch him self destruct under all his hurt, unable to deal with his emotions and feelings. But Luna is the one thing he always comes back for, his Moonlight, his ride or die, his forever.
Luna is a self imposed mute, choosing not to speak from when her mother left her in her cot and never came back. She loves her best friend Knight, her carer and protector. They have such a unique and powerful bond that it feels intrusive to watch their story at times. As the story progresses Luna’s character changes from being the one needing the caring and protection to the one doing the caring and protecting, and it was a fantastic thing to see! Knights actions towards Luna wrecked my soul at times, crushing the life right out of me, but she always be there for him no matter what, making some hard decisions and tough choices that would change her life.
This wasn’t an easy read by any means and I had to stop and put it down as I couldn’t read for the tears that were falling. This really does bring out the whole range of emotions while reading, but by the end of the book I was happy with the way things turned out and how the characters had progressed, a very fitting end really.
It’s definitely one of those books that you just have to read for yourself and immerse yourself in their world to get the full impact of the story, a review just does not do it justice. I adored it, even though it left me emotionally wrecked like a piece of wet lettuce!! 5 Ride or Die Stars!
This book was just everything when every one says it’s a must read it is. It has all the feels the good the bad a roller coaster of emotions. I laughed and cried so much reading this book it was more than 5 stars.
I loved her writing style I think I have a new favorite author! I can’t recommend this book enough it’s just perfect.
Knight and Luna have the most amazing friendship ever they are soul mates. They know what each other needs. The only problem is Luna is a selective mute and can’t talk. She has anxiety and likes to be secluded. Knight the all star MVP of All Saints High Foot Ball is the center of the spot light. He basically runs the school.
All the girls want him and he wants them to think he’s a bad boy player. He is at every party always has a girl or two on his arm. The only girl he wants on his arm is the one that refuses to let them explore their feelings and see where this will take them.
Knight has a wicked soft spot for his mother he will do anything she asks of him. He also refuses to move away to college or go away from her. He wants to spend as much time with her as he can.
Luna needs to find out how to speak again every doctor, therapist, and specialist money can buy has been at her disposal. She still can’t talk. She wants more than anything to talk and be with Knight but feels she isn’t enough.
Will going away to college help her find herself? Will seeing her mother again fix what she broke? Can she ever be enough?
This book was so good. I loved everything about this I can’t describe how good this book is. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read and I know I have said that before but this book is just magical. It shows how two broken people can find themselves. They can learn how to be enough for themselves and each other. This book touches on so many topics that young people should not have to deal with even rich spoiled ones.
“Moonshine,”he whispered.”You will up the empty, dark space–like the moon owns the sky. It is quiet. It it bright. It doesn’t need to be a ball of flame to be noticed. It simply exists. It forever glows.”-Knight.
“Two hearts, two lives, and too many missed opportunities.”
This was unrequited love at it’s best! ALL. THE. FEELS. This book took me through a whirlwind of emotions. A rollercoaster of highs and lows and everything in between. I have NEVER cried so hard while reading a book. I am NOT a crier while reading, so to brought to gasping, blubbering tears, snot, puffy eyes and all, was a powerful testament to Leigh’s ability to pull on my heartstrings for characters I have grown to know and love.
I could NOT read this story fast enough. When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it. When I was sleeping, I would dream about it. I knew after only a few chapters, that this was going to be a powerful book that would inevitably break my heart and put it back together in an altered form. This was going to be one that taught me a reminder that is all too easily forgotten: The sun WILL shine tomorrow, but we MUST live for TODAY. You need to live EVERY moment, EVERY day, EVERY interaction, like it’s your last because you only get ONE life to live, so enjoy everything there is to enjoy about it.
I can say WITHOUT a doubt, that this is Leigh’s best work, to date. It was everything I had hoped for and then some. Move over Daria and Penn, this Knight and his “Moonshine” took the crown. I will be listening to the as soon as it comes out! I NEED to experience this book all over again, even with all the pain along the way.
“Life’s too short not to be with the person you love.”
I know that this book is being advertised as a standalone, but I HIGHLY and WHOLEHEARTEDLY, recommend you read the first books in the series before this one (DEFY, VICIOUS, RUCKUS, SCANDOLOUS, and BANE). At the very least, PLEASE read RUCKUS and SCANDALOUS. This is Knight (Dean and Rosie’s adoptive son-RUCKUS) and Luna (Trent and Edie’s daughter- SCANDALOUS) story and I truly believe you will NOT get the full emotional impact if you don’t at least read those two novels. I felt it would be a disservice to this OUTSTANDING story if i didn’t mention this.
***Be warned: A box of tissue WILL be necessary while reading***

Major book hangover here! Broken Knight is my favorite book by L.J. Shen. What a ride this book took me on, my emotions were all over the place. If your anything like me I recommend having tissues close by.
Lune and Knight grew up together and love each other. They have a relationship most people don’t understand. She is quite and so different from Knight who is a star football player. You can’t help but fall in love with these two characters.
After reading the original series about these characters parents I was so excited to jump into these books. I highly recommend this book!
This book is EVERYTHING! The rawness, brokenness, and amount of pure love these characters have for each other is indescribable. My heart was so full of admiration, shattered into a million pieces, and then slowly taped back together with Luna and Knight bandaids.
Luna was such a powerful character. Her strength and loyalty was needed by most of the characters in the book. She may be young, but her intelligence and overall view on things is well beyond her years. I loved watching her grow. You could actually feel her getting more secure and confident with herself as the book progressed.
Oh my Broken Knight…pure perfection. Yes, he had some messed up ways of handling his emotions and dealing with things larger than life, but deep down he had a heart of gold. The way he took care of others and demanded respect reminded me so much of Rosie. His sense of humor, quick inappropriate comebacks, and overall personality reminded me so much of Dean. He was truly the best combination of the two.
You can’t have a ASH book without the whole gang, and this book had it all! Great take charge advice from Daria, moodiness and eye opening comments from Vaughn, loving advice and motherly affection from HotHole wives, and great banter from the Hot Holes who are now getting paid back. It’s so much fun to see the kids treat the parents like parents and using the same cocky attitudes to get their way.
For those who know me, know I hate to cry. However, I will never miss an LJ Shen book. She has a way of breaking you and making it ok all at the same time. You know when you are up at 3 AM crying in your coffee, that you have a 5 star book! Leigh, thank you for writing this amazing story about unconditional love, not taking life for granted, and finding your people!
– An Arc was generously provided in exchange for an honest review.-
Goodness me i am not sure how i feel after this book what an absolute roller coaster of emotions and feelings i don’t even know where to start with this review.
This will be a book i will never forget, there is just so much to this story, this story is about acceptance, loss, dealing with pain, events that can shape your life, hatred, loving so hard it’s painful goodness it was just a book full of angst.
The title for this book was nothing short of an actual representation of the book, Broken Knight and my goodness was he broken, dealing with Luna, his mums, his not so healthy addictions and his addiction to Luna it was all so much thing was his actions were sometimes so horrible but you knew that his feelings were the opposite and you just couldn’t help but love him.
Luna is a very special character always was from some of the earlier books of their parents story. She was a beautiful soul who so lost and in a way to me a little self destructive and that was not a good mix in regards to how bad Knight was beyond his self destruction.
This love story was full of heartbreak and throw your kindle moments of i know this is going to happen but i am not happy it is and just had your feelings all over the place. That’s the thing i love most about the books the feelings you get reading it and how much you can dive into this story and take it fully in and drown as if you were a character in the story.
Oh how my heart breaks but this story certainly shows that we only get one life and that you should live it to it’s fullest because we really don’t know when it could be all gone. A massive 5 stars for this story and a massive round of applause to L.J Shen for some amazing writing, story telling and giving is the best story that Luna and Knight deserved.
Loved loved loved this story.
My heart cannot cope with the amount of emotions in one Book!!!
I.AM.NOT.OK.
So beautifully heartbreaking
&
So heartbreakingly beautiful.
LJ Shen,
You.Are.Amazing.

There are not enough stars or words to do justice… Besides… Shuck me sideways… This was soooooooo good… And more…
Knight Cole and Luna Rexroth are all grown up and on the verge of graduating high school and about to get a full taste of life. Of reality. Of everything…
To watch… Literally watch this story unfold with feelings of agony and love, weakness and braveness… I felt like my own child’s take their steps out in the world… Never mind that one of them is scorching hot and my thoughts were beyond unmotherly through and through… Sorry not sorry about that…
Could someone potty train that brain of Knight because it’s leaking hilariousness and could you donut touch one of my 240 tissues while this book milks all my emotions out of my badly armored heart **glaring daggers at everyone**
This book send me flying, skyrocking, then let me crash in a Rollercoaster wagon and driving me full speed with dysfunctional breaks into madland book heaven… WHAM!!!!
Did I like all the parts of the book in the same manner? No I did not:
Some aspects left my mind reeling and spiraling. Thoughts of shaking or slapping some sense into one or two stubborn heads crossed my mind here and there but the story didn’t let me falter or second guess situations or decisions just kept me going and sucked me in…
Some aspects let me throw my hat in the air and yell in delight… Thank you for breaking a lot of the rules for main characters, so freaking enjoyable…
Some aspects left me utterly silent and completely drenched… I can’t thank the author for that yet… I am not over it…
It’s one of my favorite books by Leigh Shen. I completely support the idea of getting the hands on this book for fellow readers.
This book absolutely gutted me…and it will likely gut you too!
I was wary as I finished this one…trying to avoid reading anyone’s reviews, steering clear of comments on author group pages…It was hard not to catch a glimpse of readers mentioning the book hangover once they were finished.
L.J. Shen was quite generous to her readers too. She hit publish on Broken Knight a full week early…which set me at a disadvantage. I was trying to read this one and playing catch up with my review…but her die-hard fans were quite pleased.
Anyways, I finished the book early this morning. And last night I had to finally set down my kindle or I’d have found myself staying awake all night…and that wouldn’t work too well while trying to work. As it was, I had to get myself tissues to dry my watering eyes…which is a pain when wearing glasses.
I love this series. The kids of the HotHoles are quite entertaining. I throughly enjoyed Knight and Luna. And was caught off-guard with some key components to this story…ones I don’t want to spoil. PICK THIS UP!
How do I do this? How do I write a review for this book that has left my heart so hurt, yet hopeful? Broken Knight is a beautifully heartbreaking story of friendship, love, and loss, with astounding character growth. Seriously…the character growth! Gah! Knight Cole is sheer broken perfection. His heart is gold, but he must fight like hell to overcome some seemingly insurmountable demons. Luna Rexroth is loyalty and determination personified. I wholeheartedly love every step of the evolution of their relationship—particularly the most painful steps—because LJ’s writing is so astute and real, that it makes the story truly significant. I will never be able to state my love for Broken Knight adequately so I’m going to keep this short (for me anyway, lol). LJ Shen’s writing and this book earn my smiles and laughs, my blushes, my tears and quickening heartbeats, and my complete respect. More than 5 stars deserved for Broken Knight. Read it. You will never forget it.
Laughter and Tears! There were so many laugh out loud moments in this book, but also so much full-blown sobbing! There were so many times I wanted to reach into the book and strangle the characters for being so stubborn. There were times I had to set it down and just breathe.
“Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending.”
I don’t know if there are words to explain the depths of this book… The spectrum of difficult themes these characters battle… the simplistic beauty of love that often comes with a huge cost.
Masterfully written this story is not just thought-provoking, it carries a message that has the potential to be life-altering. It gives hope, encourages us to fight, and most importantly it’s a wake-up call that life is meant to be lived with purpose and meaning every single day.

What the hell that was on emotional rollercoaster.
This book was brilliant. I had heard a few things and was a lil nervous about this book. I shouldn’t of been nervous it’s LJ Shen she doesn’t do anything wrong when it comes to her books. There alway amazing I get sucked into every story, I feel every emotion and her characters are brilliant you alway end up falling in luv with them. This book has all them things plus more. From start to finished I was hooked dying to know what was going to happen. I luv Knight and Luna there brilliant but there story is heart breaking.
Knight Cole is the King of All Saints every woman wants to be with him and all the guys would luv to be friends with him. But the girl who alway had his heart was Luna Rexroth. She was his safe place no matter what happened between them they needed each other. But things were also complicated there friendship meant so much that being together wasn’t an option. Even though there feelings were strong they didn’t want to get hurt.
Luna Rexroth is a selective mute. She can talk but the anxiety she has when it comes to talking is so bad she just can’t do it. Her family and close friends know sign language so can communicate with them. Things haven’t been easy for Luna for biological mum is a piece of work and hasn’t made things easy for her. But her dad Trent has done everything he can to make things better for her. Once Luna had Knight she felt protected things would be ok. She just couldn’t let him in fully she luvs him so much but she knew Knight better than anyone and the guy could be mean at times. But he never really was to Luna until things got messy between them.
I would highly recommend this book. Luna and Knights story is heart breaking and will make you cry I was balling at parts. There both sensitive characters and being a mam I just wanted to hug them both. Knight at times just push my buttons and I did want to slap him but I could also understand why he was mean at times. Luna is just precious I know she hated being handled with care but seeing this timid girl grow into a strong woman was amazing. I think Luna has become my favourite heroine. You need to check this book out you won’t be disappointed.
Broken Knight is the second book in the All Saints High series, a spinoff of the Sinners of Saint series. While you technically don’t have to read any of the earlier books before this one, I would highly recommend picking them up.
This was one of my most anticipated releases this year and was way more than I ever expected. I actually finished this book a few days ago, and have been trying to come up with the right words to do this review justice. And I’ve decided less is more. There has been so much speculation in regards to this book, and I believe it’s one of those stories that each person should experience for themselves.
“Sometimes, the greatest love stories flourish in tragedy”
This book has ALL THE FEELS. I’m a crier, I tear up at commercials and in books, when I’m happy and when I’m angry. I went into this book with some theories and expectations on how it would go. But nothing could have prepared me for how I felt during, after, and still days later. LJ Shen has delivered a story that truly makes the reader feel everything, a true rollercoaster of emotion. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to throw my kindle across the room. There were so many moments where I didn’t think I could continue, but I am so happy I did.
I will admit there are things I didn’t love about this book, but the amount that I did was so beyond what I was expecting. Broken Knight isn’t just a romance, it is a story of family, friendship, and overcoming obstacles. Luna & Knight are far from perfect, together and separately. They are both flawed, and I had moments where I wanted to strangle them both, but I loved watching them grow. Knight pulled on every heartstring and has solidified his place in my heart.
Broken Knight is beautifully written, filled with moments that are gutwrenching and others that made me so happy I thought I could burst. I couldn’t put it down, and days later I am still suffering from a major book hangover. I highly recommend it, and hope everyone gives it a chance and loves it as much as I do!
Intensely passionate. Downright addictive. Absolutely consuming.
I was so NOT ready for this book! This book MUST be read! From the very beginning the characters wrapped themselves around my heart with their story. It is touching, emotional and heartbreaking. It is so exquisitely written that you feel every second.
I don’t know how LJ Shen does it, but she manages to reach inside of me and twist my insides into knots while simultaneously making me beg for more of her brand of torture.
I loved Luna’s growth in this book. She seemed a little to meek and docile for the dark and brooding Knight in the beginning. Her strength eventually breaks through.
Knight is so dark and brooding but, at the same time, has a heart of gold. I can say he made me so angry throughout this book. He had a lot of growing up to do but I am truly satisfied with the outcome.
Luna is a selective mute who has been protected and sheltered her whole life by her family and her best friend Knight.
Knight is popular, sexy and broken.
Luna and Knight are the best of friends but also star-crossed lovers. From a very young age they new they would be together. But when life happens, these lovers who have been intertwined their whole life start to come apart at the seems.
Both are adrift and they try to find their way without each other. Will they be able to grow and find out who they truly are? If they do, will it be too late to find out who they could’ve been together?
This story will break you. And you will love it. Knight is the son of Dean and Rosie, from Ruckus. I loved that book. His Love is Luna, daughter of Trent from Scandalous. In my opinion LJ Shen outdid herself with Broken Knight. She’s always amazing, but this one is spectacular. It is a stand alone, but to fully understand the magic Ms Shen has created with these books and these characters and their world, you should start at the beginning and devour them all. You will never regret it. Knight and Luna’s story is full of ups and downs, heartbreak, sorrow and unconditional love. Stock up on tissues and buckle up. This is one story you will remember for a long time.
4 and 1/2 stars
Deep cleansing breath in… and out… You need to prepare yourself for one heck of a story. What I have learned is that LJ Shen takes me on a journey that breaks me down into pieces slowly before piecing me back together like a patch work quilt. Luna and Knight both have loving families and yet face issues of abandonment and feel unworthy of love and affection to some extent. Most times, they don’t realise how it affects them and others it is plain to see how those issues impact their daily lives. I won’t say too much about the story but there are misunderstandings, guilt, anger and above all love. The story touches on some very sensitive issues and it squeezes your heart. The pain and loss suffered by the characters impacts the reader. It is a testament to LJ Shen’s writing because she invokes these feelings in her readers. But she also includes some beautiful and inspirational messages into the story. There is so much love and hope weaved into the story that you become a mess of emotions experiencing so many highs and lows. I just love reading about the Hotholes and their children.
Holy sweet moly. I can’t even really describe what kind of feelings were going through me.
This book had me laughing, being angry, confused, loved, hurt, and totally wrecked.
Knight is such an intense character. Kudos for Leigh for bringing him to life. I was feeling for him, hurting. Sometimes I couldn’t believe him, I wanted to yell at him, shake him to make him see right!
And Luna, incredibly smart young lady.
Ride or Die people. There’s no way to describe this book. You have to read it. Than you will feel it.
Don’t be a Rosie. Be a Dean. Go for it!
I kindly received an arc and I voluntarily left a review
Reading Broken Knight starter pack – lots of water to stay hydrated as you cry our heart out and lots of tissues. I started this book when I couldn’t sleep at 1am and finished it at 5am without even taking a break. My pillow was soaked with mascara tears… Broken Knight is a masterpiece. Leigh managed to create such an intense story from which the emotions were radiating in waves. Never ever had a book made me this emotional. Sobbing through most of the chapters, only putting the kindle down when I couldn’t read through my tears.
I had a very high expectations with the way Leigh and other reviewers have hyped it up. Whatever expectations I had were smashed within the first few chapters and I knew, I knew right then that reading this book would be an adventurous experience that would left me emotionally drained. Oh boy if I only knew what was coming. You know nothing, Jon Snow…
Talk about character development. Leigh has absolutely mastered the art and shaped her talent to perfection. Not only the main characters, Luna and Knight, but we also got to see lot of the original sinners and their spouses and kids. More than not, they reunions were bittersweet, tainted by a lurking shadow of upcoming tragedies.
Knight is one of the most fascinating characters I’ve ever read. As the title would suggest, he is broken and his pain seeps thought the cracks in his armour in a form of cruelty and often arrogance for the whole world to see. And yet in his heart he is very caring and loving boy. Falling in love with him is, in my opinion, inevitable for the reader.
Luna has made such a journey in this story. The change in her character from the beginning to the end is the most palpable one. I was in awe of how Leigh has envisioned her, her difficulties and struggles. I have always loved Luna, but this book has solidified her position as one of my favorite female book characters of all time.
I can easily say Broken Knight is my best read of 2019 even if it’s still just August. More than that, it’s one of my favorite books of all time. Even though overly emotional books are not my go-to, I already know I will be returning to Broken Knight over and over again and never grow tired.
If I could give this book million starts, I would in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, five will have to do for what is Leigh’s best work up to date!
P.S. If I’m not making sense in this review, I’m writing it an hour and a half after finishing the book during a sleepless night.
