I have a handful of books that I absolutely love and keep a mental list of to re-read when I’m in a slump. Broken Knight is now one of them. I’ve read all of this authors books and loved every single second of them. But Broken Knight was on a completely different level than those that preceded it. It made me feel so many things – the way Knight and Luna’s story was written was both beautiful and heartbreaking. I’ve never wanted two characters to get their happily ever after as much as I did those two. Lunight forever!!! Solid 5+ stars Ms. Shen.
Every time I read a new All Saints book I can’t decide whether I’m elated that I got to know more about these amazing characters or angry that it’s over. Does that make sense? The 2nd Generation Hotholes have been nothing but amazing to date and this book effected me in so many ways. Here we dive into the lives of Luna Rexroth and Knight Cole, childhood BFFs who are in absolute love with each other. Having followed these characters from birth, I know that Luna is shy and reserved, but I absolutely loved finally getting an inside look at Luna’s thoughts and feelings. She wasn’t shy and reserved…she was pissed off and couldn’t articulate it – or didn’t think she should articulate it. And poor, poor Knight. I really just wanted to scoop him up and love him and take care of him forever. Having two kids in high school myself, I can honestly say that everything about this book was real-world high school. The angst, the out of control partying, the drama – it felt like I could’ve been reading about my own kids’ friends. And then…when you think you know what’s happening in the story…then comes the bombshell story that’s happening in the background. Grab your tissues! Fan of the original All Saints series or not, YOU WILL NEED TISSUES!
What an emotional read! LJ Shen had your emotions all over the place through the whole freakin book! She drew you in from page 1, and left you feeling emotionally drained. I enjoyed Luna and Knight’s chemistry. I love that it wasn’t a quick HEA, but had trials and tribulations in between. At times it got a little frustrating that they couldn’t get their shit together, but it made the book that much better. I ached for poor broken Knight. His cries for help went unanswered, until it was almost to late. Glad to see that Luna had a backbone to set him straight.
The first part of this story drove me batty. The way these two characters acted towards each other was more than push/pull it was just aggravating…but it was also engaging. Knight and Luna could not deny what their young hearts wanted, but they are young and when you’re young you sometimes make stupid decisions, and boy these two had that down to a science. The reason that I personally can’t give it five stars is because it also gave me a story that I didn’t want, one with an ending I didn’t want and one that hinted at a future I again, didn’t want. Overall I did enjoy it and will be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Final Score – 5+ Stars!!!
I thought I was ready to read this book. After the author announced the release of the book I was eagerly waiting – with bated breath and anticipation for it to hit my kindle so I could delve right in again to my favorite group of people in my favorite fictional (sorta) town in the world.
My heart and head were nowhere near prepared … I will never be the same afterward either.
From the moment it hit my kindle, I was consumed with the story. These characters are written with such captivating, raw, intense, addictive and deeply emotional life experiences – it’s hard to imagine that they are fictional at times and not walking, talking, breathing actual beings on this Earth. From Chapter 11 onto the end of the book, was the emotional dam for me – there was not a chapter afterward that I just did not ball my eyes out. That’s how affected I was by the words on the pages. When I writer can get those emotions out of me – you’ve hit the jackpot.
I knew coming into this book that it would push me to these emotions – given the subject matter. The author was upfront about that. But what I didn’t realize is that in reading her works, I desperately NEEDED to read this particular story. It’s affected me in ways I didn’t know it would. It has inspired me with being able to forgive people who have hurt me, find hope in building myself up, and motivate me to live and enjoy life fully.
I knew Knight and Luna would break me – and they did, so many times. But what I love about them is their fierceness and their connection to one another. They stumble, the fall, they hurt, they lash out, but in the end – they are each others greatest strengths and each others weakness. They just had to work out the kinks and decide how they were going to let that affect them going forward.
LJ Shen has created a vivid, stunning, poignantly crafted masterpiece, but has taken it one step further with Broken Knight. There are few authors in my opinion who write unforgettable books. Once you read this one – there will NEVER, ever be a time you remember an author’s work more than this book or it’s writers name. I am still overwhelmed with emotions, even after having just finished reading the book not 15-20 mins. ago.
A standing ovation or an aria? You decide. After you read Broken Knight by LJ Shen!
Wow! My heart, body and soul was completely taken over as I experienced this book. Knight and Luna have become one of my favorite couples I’ve ever known. It was visceral, gut wrenching, heart shredding and inspiring. It is the ONLY book to drag me through my kindle screen and dig his claws in my skin until I was there right beside Knight and Luna, immersed in every aspect of the journey. I’m actually having a really hard time bouncing back. My heart and soul feels full to the brim. I honestly don’t think I’m capable of touching another book any time soon. It’s very rare that I cry but with this story I was sobbing uncontrollably! Knight and his troubles were a direct reflection of troubles I have faced. He was a broken being that had been in love with his best friend since childhood but carried a beautiful heart and soul. That doesn’t stop him from being a complete jerk with not only Luna but anyone around him at times. Luna has always loved him just as much but didn’t feel she was good enough for him. But she was the perfect soul to handle the sometimes violent push and pull between them. I don’t want to say much more out of fear I’ll give something away. I know without doubt I will never forget this story. This truly is the best work of literature I’ve ever known. The amazing talent that Leigh Shen has is rare and reading her books is an experience you will never forget. Read this book! You will cry but the end is so peaceful and perfectly romantic I felt my heart being completely sewn back together. Every one needs Knight and Luna in their life!
Feeling unable to articulate the magnitude of emotion this book evoked.
Yelling ensued, tears flowed freely and smiles were in abundance as I read. This story of two best friends, who figure out who they are as individuals and also who they are as a unit.
This book is both insightful and infuriating. I have never felt so invested into two characters before. Despite the damage that was brought upon their relationship, watching them mend and mold into the worst and then best versions of themselves kept me up binge reading the words, that have left me with the most aggressive book hangover.
Familial bonds are damaged, new friendships are forged and secrets are revealed. Life lessons and word of wisdom are in abundance. This book has it all and should be be one everyone checks out.
By far a Top Read for the year.
OMG!! I can’t believe this book!! This may just be my new favorite! I totally crying right now and I swear there better be another Dean book LJ!! There has to be!! My heart is a mess!! Luna and Knight were amazing! I have to admit I was one of the ones that were hoping for Luna and Vaughn but after reading this I just can’t even imagine it anymore. This book was perfectly devastating!! So we’ll put together and an emotional rollercoaster!! I was blindsided by so much! I really REALLY can’t wait for the next book! It’s going to kill me to wait! What a job well done!
This book sent me off to a dark corner to cry, and then read some more until my tears were happy tears. Teen love and angst, best friends as children turned lovers as adults. Beginning with sign language to finally using her voice, Luna’s character shines and her love for Knight knows no bounds, even when she “breaks” up with him. He carried her book bag as kids and then fought addiction to win her back, knight knows that she is it for him. There are so many things in this story that I love but I don’t want to give things away.
EPIC! Top Read of the year!
LJ Shen broke me with this book! Broken Knight is heartache, angst, love, raw emotions. This book touched my soul. Luna and Knight’s story will leave you with your heart on the floor.
I love reading books that leave you this a feeling and/or a message and this one definitely does that. Live life everyday like it’s new. Love hard and always be yourself.
This book broke my heart into million pieces the last part of the book was a big tear jerker for me and my poor poor heart. This book was too real with raw emotion. So beautifully written. Infinite heartbreak stars for t his book.
Clear your calendar because once you pick up Broken Knight you will not put it down. LJ Shen never fails to deliver and she has definitely done it again here. Broken Knight had me doing such an ugly cry. Have your tissues ready.
I can’t remember a time a book has made me ugly cry the way I did with Broken Knight (All Saints High Book 2) I swear L.J. Shen knows how to write a damn good story!! This is definitely a story that will change you and cause pause before you move on to your next read!!!
I don’t even have the right words. This story is like a perpetual rollercoaster. You’re quite sure if you were going up or down. At the heart of book are two lonely souls. Who long for love, acceptance, validation that they everything and more. I honestly didn’t want the story to end. Bravo Leigh!
“What if tomorrow never comes?” I whispered. “Then, my darling boy, we’ll make the best of today.”
A word of advice before you read this book: prepare to have your heart ripped out of your chest. You will see it’s life’s blood slowy slipping away, watch as the beats slow to an unbearable cadence only to watch it come back to life as you go through every level of emotion you could ever imagine feeling.
Ms. Shen has given Luna and Knight a story of longing. Longing to know where they came from, longing to know where their story will take them. The journey that these two embark on will evoke such deep visceral feelings. You will root for them from the get go. You will want so desperately for them not to hurt but knowing full well it will lead them to where they should be all along.
“Life is like a book, a long chain of scenes threaded together by circumstances and fate. You never know how thick or thin your book is, so you better make the most out of every scene, enjoy each chapter.”
It was so thrilling to be submerged back into the lives of the characters of Todos Santos and even have to say a sad goodbye and hello to someone new.
Now one more piece of advice: read this book! I promise you it will land on your top reads this year as it has on mine and I’m sure on many other readers list.
5+ Stars
I don’t have any words to describe this book and the way it made me feel, but I’ll try. The story is raw, incredibly intense, heartbreakingly beautiful and truly special. Knight and Luna’s story as of a budding romance and desire whilst finding the strength and oneself to conquer demons. It’s a story of friendship, family and coming to terms with the hand dealt.
I came to this author’s books late and she is my new favorite one-click author. Her work just keeps getting better and better IMO. I can’t wait for the next book she puts out in the series and in general!! I highly recommend this book!
I haven’t been emotionally wrecked from a book in a long time. This is a must read.
I know when I need a book with a jerk, I can always count on L.J. Shen! I’m not sure how she can make you love them and want to punch them at the same time but she does! And she didn’t disappoint with Broken Knight. Luna and Knight’s story is just amazing. I love that she started the story out with a little background of their relationship. We were able to get a read on how they connected. I wanted to just put my hands in the story and shake them both and tell them to knock it off and get together! They are both so broken in different ways and they both break you at the same time! Their story will tear you apart and put you back together. L.J. Shen gave us another amazing story from Todos Santos! I don’t think I will ever get tired of hearing from the Hotholes.
Overall Rating – +
It’s taken me a few days to write this one, but wow!
I don’t know what to say about this book that hasn’t already been said. If you were to only read one book this year, make it this. It’s funny, touching, real and a book that teaches you that nothing last forever. Make those mistakes, take the risks, because life is worth fighting for.
Knight is not what I thought he would be. I thought he would be a total hot hole, player, big ego, pure alpha. Although he he has some of those qualities he is so much more, he’s deep, thoughtful, kind and I loved his big heart. Being inside his head was just wow, he made me laugh so much and his love for Luna from an early age was so pure. He was her protector when she was broken and scared of the world and those around her.
I liked when Luna moved to college. It gave her strength in so many ways. I don’t really like when authors make the heroine helpless and she certainly was not, she wanted to be better and this was part of that.
I could write all day about Knight, his inner thoughts and battles were hilarious. Telling himself not to do something then the next minute spilling it out. Shen writes humour right up my street.
Let’s not forget about the others;
Vaughn- dry wit and somber, I can’t wait for his book
Daria – the Queen herself. Her appearances in the book just cemented my love for her even more. The kiss scene with Luna was one of my favourites
Knight and Luna didn’t have an easy time of it, the angst and push and pull between them was unreal. There’s were many times I was heartbroken for both of them. Luna made a mistake and Knight was devestated and it just showed his love and commitment to her regardless of circumstances.
Now, the biggie that I will keep spoiler free as you need to read the book for the impact of it. I had my thoughts on what would happen in this book and although tragic, my fear was real, but I think it was a story that needed to be written and I can only imagine how hard a book like this was to write and I applaud you Shen.
There was such beauty in this book, it was raw, heartbreaking (I sobbed for hours!) but also powerful showing the true power of love.
FUCKING JOSH

Beautiful. Tragic. Emotional. Redeeming.
This book destroyed my heart and utterly demolished my soul. But then it put it back together, piece by aching piece.
Broken Knight is the perfect name for this book.
Behold, the book that caused thousands of people across the world to break into hysterical sobbing.
The Totholes of Todos Santos.
Knight and Luna’s story is perfectly written.
Their story is not beautiful and tied with a bow. It’s real. Full of immaturity you would expect from high schoolers. Full of pain and heartache that surrounds chronic illnesses. Full of the journey it takes to find yourself. Full angst. Full of anger. Full of love. Full of life.
I have never read a book that ends with a traditional HEA but left me reeling from such emotional turmoil. I have never read a book that caused me to break down into tears multiple times while subsequently laughing or swooning over each scene.
For every happy moment, there was some aspect of heartache buried along with it or around it.
The book has plenty of cameos from our favorite Hotholes and Totholes of Todos Santos, as well as some new characters that I would expect to see again in future works from LJ Shen. However, it can be read as a complete standalone. My recommendation is to read the series in order.
Spoiler free… This book is one you don’t want to miss.
And as always from my reviews, my top quotes of the book:
“Always. Whenever. Forever.”
“I didn’t want to kiss her. I wanted to zip open my skin and tuck her into me. Hide her from the world and keep her mine.”
“My heart broke, not because I was sad, but because it swelled so much at the sight of you, I needed more space in it.”
“Ride or Die.”
