“Go live with Nate Ryder,” they said.“Everything will be fine,” they said. Are they nuts?Nate Ryder has been the bane of my existence for the past five years. He’s made it his personal mission to make my life a living hell and now my parents expect me to go and live with the guy for the foreseeable future. No thanks. I’d rather gouge out my eyes with a toothpick than live with him and his little … than live with him and his little brother, Jesse. Only problem is, they have my parents wrapped around their little fingers, thinking they’re the good little boys they pretend to be.
But I know better, and so does the rest of Broken Hill High.
Nate Ryder is not to be messed with. He’s a bad boy through and through. A bully. A guy who doesn’t care who he has to step on to get what he wants. He’s the devil and he knows it.
Now that devil is my roommate.
I better hold on tight because this is going to be one bumpy ride. One where I can guarantee that I won’t come out the same.

The story of a girl and two brothers, one who she loves and the other who treats her like family. The premise is very similar to Fallen Crest, which I totally loved, and this book was also very good. Tora knew Nate and Jesse very well when they were young because their parents were good friends.
However, when Nate and Tora turned twelve something happened and they stopped hanging out together. Nate and Jesse and their friends became the school’s bad boys. Nate became Tora’s bully and Tora had her own group of friends.
Until senior year when her parents have to go away to Australia to take care of her sick Granny. They ask that she stay with Nate and Jesse’s Family. Tora is forced to spend time with Nate. Though he has a girlfriend and she has been spending time with the Quarterback, they are both drawn to each other. There are unexpected twists and turns and fun high school parties where craziness happens. It is young love at its best.
I enjoyed this book very much. Tora and Nate we’re best friends growing up until something happened and everything changed. Nate turns into a bully to her and treated her terrible. All of a sudden Tora’s parents havento leave town for a family emergency and she has goes to stay with Nate and his family. While staying in the same house things start to change between them but you will have to read this to find out how it changes and if they become friends again or more. I loved the start of this series and can’t wait to see where this author takes us.
What a MARVELOUS intro to Sheridan Anne. I devoured this gem in one sitting- eating up the delicious angsty emotional goodness like a loaded banana sundae.
Our story centers on Nate and Tora- former friends turned bully and bullied. Tora isn’t sure what exactly happened, but thanks to her absent parents who just up and move to another country (okay, to care for a sick grandma, but still), Tora finds herself living with Nate and his family- HIS idea, not her parents. He strong-arms her into agreeing (vs. staying alone at her house), and thus our story, thick with emotion, drama, and teenage romance tropes, begins. YUM.
I genuinely loved Tora. She’s not always coping in a healthy way- she’s struggling with some personal demons. She is compassionate and protective of others, even if she won’t always defend herself- which might bother some, but I think is true to Tora- she’s altruistic, but also unsure of herself. She’s bullied, both by herself and by others, which impacts her more than she realizes or wants to admit, but I love that she still knows who she is and who she wants to be, despite her own challenges.
Nate is our bully and our resident bad boy- and boy, he can be a jerk. And man, the tension and chemistry here JUMPS off the page. I had such nostalgia for young love reading this- the urgency, the nerves, the defensiveness and obsession.
Sheridan keeps the plot moving- so we aren’t in the dark too long about what really is going on between these two, even though they both start out in other relationships. The love-hate sizzles and cracks into a giant inferno of chemistry that I was happy to get toasty with. Nice amount of steam- not as graphic as others I’ve read, but enough for this steam loving reader. We also have ample twists and turns that keep the story interesting and keep you on your toes. Plus we have that fun teenagers doing illegal racing trope that makes my heart speed up (see what I did there? Pun intended). This is just teen romance drama fun!
Fans of Tijan will really love this author’s themes and tenor- I found this because it reminded me of Fallen Crest, and I was NOT disappointed. Different and distinct, though. Bully romance, high school drama, hyperbolized angst, fast plot progression, heat and heart, and emotional and delightful characters- both main and secondary. The only BLIP for me was the bestie- didn’t love her, but I’m sure I’ll warm up later. Overall, a fun, angsty read. Definitely more new adult than YA in themes and steaminess- even though our characters are in high school!
Tora and Nate what can I say about these two, other than that these two definitely had off the charts chemistry. Yes when things first started they could be seen as enemies. Nate is the bad boy of the school. While Tora really wasn’t a member of any of the groups in the school. But, that didn’t mean she wasn’t on the radar of some.
Now when I said these two had off the charts chemistry I will say that that was only just the beginning for them. They both wanted each other, but didn’t quite know how. Nate was there for Tora when she needed someone to have her back, and to help her when her life was secretly destructing itself.
I read this one in one sitting and quickly downloaded the second book. I need to know what else is in store for this couple and those that are parts of their group.
This is the first book in what will definitely be an absolute amazing series. This one is Nate and Tora’s story. They have known each other all their lives and had been friends once. Now she has to live with Nate and his family for a little while. Nate and even his brother Jesse are very protective of her. Really could not put down at all.
I got hooked on this series.
3.5 stars for Broken Hill HIgh by Sheridan Anne.
This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it . Nate and Tora used to be best friends all that changed around 8th grade . Nate became Tora’s biggest bully and she had no idea why. Now in their senior year of high school things might just change. Tora is staying at home while her parents are gone with her sick grandma . Her mother wanted her to stay with Nate’s family. She just couldn’t do it until Nate forces her. Will this bring about change with these two are will it just make everything worse.
Tora has always been the nice girl and Nate has always been the bad boy. I loved the tension between these characters . My only issue is that Tora will stand up for everyone else but not really herself. Nate has and still is putting her through hell but she doesnt say much about it . I have issue with that. You do learn a lot about why things are the way they are in this first book . It is worth reading if you love high school drama and tension or enemies to lovers stories. This book is for you .
Broken Hill High is a private school full of high school drama. Tora and her friends are in the middle of it. When the popular quarter back wants her, he will do anything to get her. Much to the despise of her ex best friend and resident bad boy Nate. Sexual tension is high and the dislike is palpable. Makes for an interesting read!
I couldn’t put this book down!! I love Tora, Nate, Jesse & Brooke!! I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book! I’m excited to see how this story progresses.
The story started off with a laugh. There are plenty of things to make you smile. Nate is the school bad boy and a bit of a bully to Tora. They used to friends until teen hormones get involved. Nate does everything to get under her skin. She tries not to let it show. He has his reasons and it’s not anything new. Cute story with fun characters. High school drama at its peak.
Tora is about to start her senior year at school. Her parents need to go to her grandmother in Australia, because she’s sick. Her parents decide to leave her behind so that she can go to school. This is a dream for every teenager, a big house all to themself for an extended period of time. Granted Tora has her license, if she could actually drive the sports car her father got for her, she’d have no problems, or so she thought. Her parents originally wanted her to stay with friends of the family, but she definitely didn’t want to stay under the same roof as Nate, their son, who has been nothing but nasty to her since they turned 12. Nate, the school bad boy, is going to make sure Tora is doing well, whether she wants him to or not, even if this includes ‚kidnapping‘ her and bringing her back to his family’s home. A sweet and a little steamy story that was a lot of fun to read. I can’t wait to read the second book in this series.

Nice girl and bad boy?
At least that’s what seems to be at first, but Tora is not so sweet and Nate is not always a bad boy. I loved that the author plays on these false pretenses with a Tora who does not hesitate to provoke the queen of bees cheerleader, just to annoy her because she has forbidden her boyfriend Josh which she does not really want ; and a Nate who has a very bad reputation, but who has been watching and protecting Tora since their teenage years when she thought he hated her.
I loved this romantic comedy with young adults, who graze the drama regularly, with roller coasters of emotions related to the unspoken from the two heroes. The story is very well written, exciting and I was caught in the story of this excellent reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
This YA/NA book has it all – humor, high school drama, and a bit of angst. Tora is a sweet girl who grapples with her former best friend being her bully. Yet, not everything is as it appears. Tora is a fun character. She is fiercely loyal to her friends and is battling some demons. She is the type of friend I would have loved to have had in high school. Nate is the bad boy player in the story. He isn’t kind to Tora, but once you find out why he was doing what he was doing in his own messed up way, you will swoon. The dynamic between the two of them was hot and I really liked the pseudo-brother/sister dynamic between Tora and Jesse. The secondary characters were great as well – especially Jesse and Brooke – as they provide great support and lots of humor. The texts between Brooke and Tora had me really laughing. Throughout this book, the author does tackle some sensitive subject matter respectfully. Broken Hill High has a good storyline and moves at a good pace. The characters are likable except for the few that we are supposed to loathe. This YA romance does have a HEA and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. This is my first book by this author and I definitely plan on looking at her other books. I received this book through Booksprout.
So basically we have the classic nice but strong girl falls for her bully but undercover protector/crush romance. Tora is a high school girl with every day problems, and then bigger ones in the form of mean girls, jerk guys, users, body image issues, and all that jazz. She’s got a group of great friends, but there are also people in her life that are iffy. Cue up Nate. Long time family friend but also her bully. These two have something between them from the start of the story, so even though they are paired with other people you feel that tension between them. Nate is not the nicest to Tora. He is pretty much always there to seemingly ruin her day, but you come to find it’s a bit more than that. At some points I did find myself just wanting to shake them. Like come on guys. It’s obvious you have feelings for each other, but it’s all about the process and that frustration is what makes the story good.
All in all if you’re a lover of angsty YA/NA that gets a tiny bit steamy, then you will enjoy this book. It kind of gives me some Tijan vibes in ways, so fans of her will definitely enjoy this book and series to come!
