This is the third installment to the saga of Caden’s mental instability and Greyson trying to help him deal with it. Caden is called into active duty from the reserves. Greyson is trying to cope with making sure he’s okay from a distance.
These books are steamy and mind blowing. The entire series arc has been planned and executed with precision. Ends in a cliffhanger, but in the perfect spot. You must read the series in order. Absolutely amazing and gripping series.
Wow, just wow. Just when I think this series can’t get anymore intense, it does just that! Book 3 finds Caden back in war torn Iraq fighting his demons and Greyson doing everything, and I mean everything, to protect him. CD Reiss is brilliant! The way she has created her characters and what they are going through is awe inspiring. Broken Edge is intense, raw, dark and gritty and it literally left me on the edge of my seat. If I could give this book more stars I would.
Woah. This installment was a ride! Caden being back in the war zone was very worrisome. And Greyson feels like she needs to anything she can to get to him. I was a little worried about what she would find when she got there. I’m not going to lie…. I thought it would be worse. As usual it ended on a cliffhanger! I don’t trust Ronin at all! So I’m quite eager to get that final installment! I really really want Caden and Greyson to get their HEA!!!
Reiss is an expert at leaving you hanging on a precipice. Fortunately, for those of us who are hooked lock, stock and barrel on this series, the wait for Broken Edge wasn’t at all long. I couldn’t get her two protagonists out of my mind and was anxious to see what the author had in store for them. Surprises, there are! Book three picks up where On the Edge left off and if you’re like me, the last manoeuvre Caden made probably left you aghast. I didn’t think he should have done it; however, there’s quite a twist going on here and much to his wife’s dismay, nothing was going to stop him.
Actually, this is the first time I really got annoyed with Caden. I thought he could have solved his personal issues alongside his wife who would do anything in her power to help him. But oh no, he had to go and complicate matters. Of course, in his eyes, he was only trying to make a really complicated situation better. Now then, in this story, everything goes haywire. Greyson’s decision to indirectly join forces with him didn’t please me, either. Yet on reflection, I shouldn’t have expected any less of her seeing as she’s madly in love with her husband. Believe me, there’s never a dull moment in this read and since the author wouldn’t let her readers have it any other way, the build-up to an unanticipated scenario is excruciatingly angst-ridden. In general, the plot’s pace is fast; nonetheless, there is a lull just before halfway which gave me some breathing space. I kid you not! From the second half onwards, it felt as if I was on a collision course, waiting for the impact to happen.
My lack of trust regarding one of the characters who play a crucial part in Caden and Greyson’s story, got worse as the story evolved. Man, is this guy bad news or what! His self-importance and pretences, false or not, enraged me no end. I saw through him though, or at least I think I did. Question is, will this couple and is it really what it seems because I should be used to Reiss twisting the truth by now! When Caden eventually confronted his fears, I let out a sigh of relief only to be thrown back into a turmoil. The ending which isn’t the ending…well, I’m at a loss for words.
I really don’t want to spoil this must-read for you; therefore I shall cut this review short. What I do I have to mention before going is that I was in two minds about whether or not to give Broken Edge 4.5 or 5 stars. The previous books were like, what the heck am I reading! Even though the setting in this one is harsh, emotions don’t seem to run so high and gave the read a different feel to it. I cannot deny that Reiss’ wizardry storytelling and spectacular prose kept me stuck to the pages throughout. I liked the structure of the book too, and as always, narrated from different points of view in the past tense is my kinda stuff. The banter. Bloody marvellous! So five stars it is, and well-deserved I might add. Bravo!
Book one in this series introduces us to husband and wife team Greyson and Caden who met and fell in love while serving together in a military war zone and as they return home and try to adapt to civilian life. WOW I’m not sure words would be ever able to explain the intricate relationship between these two characters as they deal with PTSD and the ravages of war. The story line was so layered and intense that it had you on edge, enthralled and addicted through the whole book. The characters were so interesting and complicated and you just needed to know more. The sex was rough, hard and raw and may push the boundaries for some readers. I had this book on audiobook and the narrators Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden deserve an Academy award for their portrayal of these two characters and the love they have for each other, this series was an absolutely brilliant insight into the depths of PTSD and what military personal have to face when they come home as forgotten casualties of war. This is a must read.
I loved this book. You have to read the 2 before this one to understand what is happening. This book left me gasping with an unexpected twist that I couldn’t wait to read the next one. The characters seem real with real world problems and will do anything for each other. One of the best series i have read in a while.
It just keeps getting more and more intense. Such great story telling, I couldn’t stop
reading. Can not wait for the final book!
If the previous books have already been responsible for putting the reader in a spiral of emotions, questioning and tension, Broken Edge comes to confirm that this is not a common romance, that Greyson and Caden despite being in a relationship have many paths to go through happy ending.
After the shock of the end of the last book, where we discover that Caden was summoned again by the army, in this volume we will follow this new dynamics of the protagonists, where this unexpected situation will test the already shaken sanity of Caden and make Greyson question her fears and her limits.
How far would you go for love? Greyson will show that there are no limits to saving those you love. Unhappy with Caden’s situation and totally powerless to change this, Greyson after the initial shock, will first try to continue with her life despite the longing and worry, but realizing over time that something is wrong with her husband, she will give up everything and take a radical attitude. Greyson knows it’s Caden’s strength, it’s the link that keeps him focused, and his well-being is what’s essential to her.
Caden did not expect to relive all this horror again, but without choice, he finds himself day after day sinking deeper and deeper into a dangerous path. Damon is gone, but someone else is approaching, and unlike his predecessor, this new figure looks for danger, pain and explosive feelings. How to survive in the midst of combat with the constant fear of getting lost and putting your own life at risk? Or worse, being responsible for hurting Greyson, albeit involuntarily? How to proceed, knowing that your wife would do everything to save you even if the price to be paid is life itself?
Greyson and Caden were once again the stars of the book. We saw a more vulnerable side of Greyson, putting herself in an unfamiliar position, glimpsing how her mother feels as she waits for her father, she and her brother to return from their missions. Now a civilian, she does not have the privileges of her patent, and this puts her in a different reality, one where she is powerless to take care of Caden and ensure that he is out of danger. As for Caden, bits of his past begin to fit in, we discover some of the abuses he endured, and the extent to which they were responsible for triggering his problem.
The scene of the accident of the two in the bombed building was very important for the narrative, was the construction of everything that has been shown so far. Caden breaks for a reason, a number of factors were building his vulnerability and a specific moment served as a trigger. Greyson always shown as his foundation, did not disappoint and was what kept him going, without her maybe the result would have been different.
Important questions were answered in this volume, some of the mystery is cleared up, I was right when I said that Ronin had something with all this. The end, as usual, ends in a revelation that will leave the reader apprehensive, curious and very worried.
Read. Only then will you know the magnitude of this story. Now is to wait for the last volume and hope that even broken Greyson and Caden can be happy. After all, they more than deserve it, they love each other’s without barriers, without judgments and without limits.
Broken Edge Left Me Broken and Needing More
This storyline is nothing short of amazing. The love, devotion and sacrifice that both of the main characters, Greyson and Caden, show one another epitomize their marital vows.
“Your strength keeps me upright when I think I’ll fall. I can’t shake you or forget you, because you run through my veins.”
Two strong-willed people who met under the extreme circumstances are drawn to one another like moths to flames. Do they have what it takes to make this work in the long run? What are they willing to do to ensure that “no man is left behind”?
The story is told in dual narrative by the main characters. Ms. Reiss cleverly uses broken memories to share Caden’s past. I loved the witty use of a crossword puzzle during a conversation between Greyson and her mother. The pace is steady, and there is plenty of action and anguish. Ms. Reiss makes you care not only about her characters, but also the hundreds of thousands of military personnel who are at the front lines or have returned home with PTSD.
Broken Edge is the third book in a four book series. It cannot be read as a standalone novel, and there is a heart-clenching cliffhanger. Thankfully, readers won’t have to wait long for the next, and final installment of the story. Meanwhile, I’ll be sitting in a corner biting my nails while I wait it out.
4.5 stars
What just happened?!?! On the edge of your seat, twist and turns and oh my god moments! Deeper and deeper it gets in this series and I’m completely hooked and in need of the next book. Enthralling, sexy, and riveting!!! Get ready for the biggest mindf$&k ever.

Kris –
Book three and another cliffhanger!! ARGH! So annoying and exciting! I found this book riveting and again, the flow is so quick I was done in what felt like minutes!
So, book three, somehow Caden ends up back in active service after signing up for the reserves. Which he only did to become part of Blackthorn’s PTSD test subjects to receive top secret treatment. Caden is just a broken-in-half mess. His personalities have completely split, and he needs to suppress the frightened part of himself to be able to do his job in the red zone in Balad.
Greyson is a mess too, as she knows Caden is vulnerable. He needs her so she can help him by keeping his personalities in check. These two characters are so in love that at times my heart hurts reading their plights and pitfalls. I buy every line from them and truly feel their passion, their love, and their need for each other. I also feel Greyson’s anxiety and aggravation, this is NOT the man she married, yet at times, it is. Greyson gets herself assigned to Blackthorn’s Red Zone assignments to be there for Caden. They’re both back in the military, overseas, and right in the line of enemy fire!
I’ve never really read a book in the midst of war before and I think Reiss did a fabulous job building this world. I can hear the helicopters overhead, imagining I can tell which are medical Blackhawks just like Greyson, and I can hear the chants of the prayers and the bombs in my head. I think this series is spectacular and while I hate a cliffhanger as much as the next person, I really didn’t expect the turn this ending took! So, I’m impatiently waiting for #4!!

“Dynamo…BROKEN…WHISPER…CYBORG…SYNERGY…ACROPHOBIA”
The continuation of Greyson and Caden’s riveting love story in this book is rich in original eroticism, heart stopping action, suspenseful mystery, profound psychological and personality explorations written as if captured in literary “high definition”. And…this is just what is at the surface of the read. There are underlying themes that manifest to the reader who is alert to the consummate genius on display in the composition of the words used by the incomparable C. D. Reiss throughout the series.
Caden is leaving for Iraq. This is Greyson’s worst nightmare come true and the very thing she promised she would never become…she became…the wife left behind carrying more burdens…alone and lonely…sick with worry…learning how to function as a single person rather than a part of a couple. Compounding the toll on her emotional energy that the worry for Caden’s mental and physical well-being takes, Greyson begins processing the turbulent experiences of the months prior to Caden’s deployment mentally and emotionally.
“The last months had been stressful. Damon’s appearance had thrown me, and the months before that, with the unexpectedly rough sex and the more unexpected reason for it, had been a slow crawl of emotional tightness that unwound just as slowly without the day-to-day chaos.
In the unwinding, my own feelings were freed. Disappointment unraveled to reveal anxiety, which dissolved into a puddle of worry that boiled with anger that steamed into sadness before soaking into resentment.” – Greyson
As loving as Greyson is, she is analytical. After examining all the deconstructed events and emotions of the past months, Greyson still sees that the love she shares with Caden exists outside of all the turmoil and is not connected to the turbulent circumstances or her raw emotions. Greyson’s love for Caden stands alone and only her love will be the basis of her every decision going forward.
“Caden. Me. The love that bound us together wasn’t connected to the skein I’d built around it. It stood discrete. It was at the heart of every decision I was about to make.” – Greyson
Caden is angry that Greyson would put herself in danger by returning to Iraq as a military contractor overseeing the contractor’s top-secret PTSD treatment protocol. Caden’s anger is its own pathological entity. It’s only satisfied with adrenaline, danger and…Greyson’s pain. Caden needs these things to reign in this “entity”, this beast and to feel some semblance of being whole. Caden also questions Greyson’s motive for returning to an active war zone because of her former single-minded commitment to her military career. A career she abandoned for a civilian life with him.
“…But admit it to me, your husband, that you want to be here because you never wanted to leave the army in the first place.” – Caden
“I wish you hadn’t come. I’m so glad you came.” – Caden
This is the framework for the revelatory chapters of Broken Edge which is the continuation of a remarkable love story forged in the violence, destruction, madness, heartbreak, sacrifice, valor and the fear inherent in war. A love story that progresses through further horror and trauma. A love story that tells of a love that needs to crawl across psychological wounds like a captive forced to crawl across broken glass to be free. A love story in which pain is a panacea, cure, pleasure and perhaps more.
While Caden and Greyson traverse the scarred earth of a war-torn land, they search for their truth as individuals and as a couple brought together by either circumstance or a God that Caden can only define as the capital U in Universe so long as Greyson walks the earth. Along with the constant pressure of living in a war zone…there is something or someone insidious that is at work threatening Caden, Greyson and their marriage.
I thought long and hard and I have so many theories about the meaning behind the title, “Broken Edge”. To share even one theory of the meaning would be too much of a spoiler. And of course, the story continues because not all has been answered. Actually, it seems the more information we gather through the series the less we actually know. I cannot…can…not wait for the last book in this epic, “ edgy” uber erotic romance.
BTW: I was intrigued with the words above…which I quoted from the book and used for my title. This author is so sly. Maybe it’s a message in code? Maybe not? I promise you’ll understand more when you read this book.
If you read the previous books: Cutting Edge Rough Edge On the Edgecertainly you must continue with Broken Edge and then onto Over the Edge.
This series is truly transcendent in its genre. The imagination of storyline is unmatched and quality of the work in total is superior. If you love your romance intense, intelligently creative in its eroticism and wrapped in a plot that has your head spinning in all the best ways…well, friends what more can I say…go…begin…read… Start with the prologue it’s free…Cutting Edge.
“I saw the three bright stars of Orion’s belt. Caden was under the same sky, and he was looking with me. He was my blue sky, my clear day, the protective shell over my world. At night, we were strung together by the stars.”
Reiss is composing quite the mosaically constructed tale. She deviously entraps you at a leisurely pace, and before you know it you are completely enamored with the story and the characters. As this segment of the sequel is content filler to build up and create what is looking to be meteoric conclusion, there is a cliff, that seems to be a recurring component within this series, that she creates by just one word or one sentence that leaves you dangling by the tips of your fingernails.
With what opaque clues and information that I have gathered throughout the story, I can only presume what may have been Caden’s psychological crack. As I have learned with psych thrillers you can never know what is around the corner. So rather than assuming that I know what is going on I will wait eagerly for the conclusion of this intricate and riveting tale.
Gah! This is just getting more and more intense. I’m in absolute awe in how much detail is included with the story. All the medical, psychological and military terms thrown in with the highly erotica thriller surrounding Caden and Grayson’s story.
Ever find yourself reading and then your eyes start wandering father down the page?? Yeah, that’s what kept happening to me. It’s like my eyes couldn’t wait to find out what happens next and wanted to keep skipping over words or paragraphs.
As with each installment in this series, I was enthralled and captivated from start to finish and in TOTAL suspense in anticipation as to how their story will end in book 4. I’m at the edge of my seat until then.
*hysterical laughter* She went there people she really absolutely did that.
I don’t think I’ll come out of this series alive because honestly I’m not sure how much my heart can take it. And yet I know I won’t stop reading because I’m thoroughly addicted.
This series is becoming my most favourite series in the history of ever. With every book I understand Caden and Greyson more. I feel what they feel; I live what they live. At the same time I have so many questions and concerns that I get anxious. SO MUCH TO KNOW!!
I’m just waiting to see how all of this delicious madness plays out. Not one part of this story is predictable and I LOVE how it messes with my mind and soul. I keep wanting more and more. It’s all about to go to blow the hell up, people and I AM NOT READY!!
This whole series is addictive. Twisty with so many turns; expect the unexpected in the most dazzling way. C.D. Reiss is at her finest with this series and I feel utterly entrenched in this world where I’m a total outsider. I’ve been caught in this web from the very beginning without even realizing how we got to where we are now and having zero clue as to where we’ll end up when the Edge series concludes. It’s a beautifully told, tragic story of mental illness, perseverance, and ever lasting love. I’m still completely hooked and one hundred percent connected to this on-going plot and these fascinating characters thanks to C.D. Reiss’s brilliant writing and unique style.
GAHH! The Broken Edge continues the story of Greyson Frazier and Caden St. John and their trials to save their marriage. I loved this story so much and have been hooked on this series from the get go!
Without giving away any spoilers just know their story gets more and more intense as we move forward. Grayson and Caden are now dealing with deployment and they both will do anything to protect and keep one another safe. I seriously loved this story and the passion that This author showcased in her characters. They were honest and flawed but so deeply in love they didn’t know whose cells started and whose ended.
I truly loved this story and can’t wait for book four in the series and more from this author overall! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
War. It’s an ugly business.
We all have our personal demons, our wars. But imagine facing a personal war while engaging in a literal one. That’s where we find Caden and Greyson in Broken Edge, book three of The Edge series.
All too often war is a distant thing. Something that happens somewhere else, to someone else. Not here. The author doesn’t candy-coat war. She makes it a living, breathing character with a central part to play, giving us an unvarnished look at its devastation and its impact on Caden, Greyson, and the secondary characters. With already steamy and mysterious plot elements in play, this pushed me over the edge and broke me emotionally. I was a crying, blubbering mess by the end. Which is fitting, really, because that is how war should make you feel. It’s an ugly business after all.
*This series must be read in order. Please read books one, two, AND the prequel before reading this book.*
“You break like a queen.”
This series is becoming one of the BEST OF THE YEAR! This kind of mind-fuckery is NO JOKE, people! This is why I love reading CD Reiss’ work. She brings the bold. She brings the edge. She brings the sexy LIKE NO OTHER! You just never know what she’s gonna surprise us with next! I absolutely LOVE IT! I love Greyson and Caden’s insane, twisted, and dark story. It’s original. It’s seductive. It’s beautifully chaotic.
With BROKEN EDGE, the author gives us one more layer of deep, mind blowing, emotionally draining romance. This author had me at book one, but she’s kept me on my toes and on the edge through book three, and we are one step closer to an EPIC finale we will never forget. These characters are a part of me now. I’m invested in them 150% and I can’t wait to see how Reiss wraps this one up. One thing I know for sure…it WILL NOT be wrapped up in a bright and shiny bow. This author is going to make us work for this happily ever after, I guarantee it.
What do you do when the love of your life is on a fragile footing between existences, and they send him to the other side of the world? Well, follow him of course. Greyson is so afraid that if some major split happens again in Caden that she will not be there to bring him back so she signs up as a contractor and goes after her man. There in Baghdad, it is not the same as it was in Balad. Caden is angry and grateful she is with him but assures her he is fine and dealing. The passion is every bit as intense. The battles are every bit as fiery. But the enemy at the gate is altogether different. You must read this! There are more twists and some grab your throat moments that this couple is now famous for. Then you will get an Oh my yes! moment. The ending will put you in knots and make you wonder what the hell! I am sad but also so happy there is only one more gut twisting book to this series. I want so bad for them to get a happy ending here.
