Clean, sweet second chance romance. This is a sweet story of love and second chances. Mark wasn’t serious about Joy in high school, so when they said goodbye after graduating, he said some things he didn’t mean when he found out she was more serious about the relationship, breaking her heart and her confidence. She decided to move to the city to sell her art. However, four years later, Joy is heading back home to Falworth, her hometown, with a broken heart and a broken spirit as she had not been successful. Joy and her brother rented out family property on the edge of town, but the lease is almost up, so she can move in soon. Samantha, her best friend, is concerned about her and has asked her to bring a run down coffee shop back to life with Samantha as a cosigner. This helps her find some purpose to her life. She runs into Mark, but isn’t interested in talking with him. Needing his help with renovating the building, Joy ends up hiring him, but she has a hard time believing he’s sorry for how he treated her. She tries to ignore past feelings, but he’s pretty persistent. Sam and Mark are my favorite characters. Joy seems a bit immature with her unwillingness to even talk with Mark. Joy was only hurting herself when she refused to forgive Mark. Can Mark convince her that he really is sorry and that she really is a talented artist?

This is a sweet, heartwarming story of love, second chances and redemption. Mark was not really serious about Joy when they were in high school, so when graduation came and he said goodbye, and she was devastated, he got angry at her and said some awful things. He later realized just what he’d given up, and regretted it. Four years later they are both back in their hometown and Mark desperately wants to apologize for everything, but she won’t talk to him. Joy ends up hiring him and they gradually start talking. Mark is devastated when he learns the effect his words had on Joy and he tries to convince her that he was very wrong, but she doesn’t believe him. Mark won’t give up though and he takes a chance that will cost him her, or will finally convince her that he has been telling her the truth.

Broken Dreams by Emma Evans is a story about hurt, forgiveness, second chances and friendship. Joy is an artist who paints what she loves. Mark was selfish and arrogant. He hurt Joy with his angry and thoughtless words. Can they reconcile and become friends (at least friends). He regrets things said in anger. Can she forgive him?
This is a heart warming story that will have you feeling emotions with the characters. It is well written and the story is well developed. The characters will stay with you long after you close the book. I highly recommend this book.

This is your typical second-chance romance where the heroine doesn’t want anything to do with the old boyfriend that she left behind in her home town. There’s lots of turmoil until the heroine decides to finally listen to his apology… All-in-all, I enjoyed this story. Joy Pearson had spent the last few years trying to make a living and a name for herself as an artist. Instead, working in the coffee shop helped make ends meet but did nothing to further her dream. So she was giving up and moving back to the town she had never wanted to see again. Her brother and she co-owned a small currently-vacant rental property and she was able to move in for free, at least until her situation stabilized.
Her friend, Samantha, knocked on Joy’s bedroom door at 7 a.m., holding a cup of coffee for her. Sam had made an appointment for her to meet someone an hour from then and mentioned going along to co-sign the lease. What was she talking about? As they ate breakfast, Sam pushed gently at her friend to talk about what was wrong. Joy finally told her that before he left for a new job in the city, her ex-boyfriend, Mark Roberts, had told her no one wanted her art and she should give it up. Apparently she totally believed him and had put her art supplies away in the closet since her return home. She had no more passion for art. Instead of agreeing, Sam urged her to have a small exhibition here since the town had never even seen her art creations. She refused to even try. But she wasn’t ready to hear that Sam had set up the meeting with Mr. Hunter because he had wanted someone to take over the coffee shop — and Sam told him that Joy would do it!
Much to her surprise, as Joy looked around the rugged, worn out look of the coffee shop, peeling paint and horrible pictures to hide the bad walls, her artist’s imagination started to see the possibilities and how she would improve the place to draw people in. Sam, too, was looking for a way to start over and eagerly waited for Joy’s decision. She would be her partner in this, if Joy would give it a chance? To her delight, Joy came alive again at the possibilities – a sense of purpose completely changed her, as happiness bubbled up inside! This new start just might work out!
Joy was sitting on a bench outside the coffee shop while Mr. Hunter was showing Sam how to make his special coffee. A familiar voice made her stop breathing – Mark stood before her and told her they had lots to catch up on! Anger hot under the surface, Joy told him they had nothing to talk about and she walked inside, slamming the door behind her. Would she be able to keep Mark away from her since he has now moved home too? Would she and Sam continue with plans on the coffee shop? Or would Mark’s lack of confidence in her abilities so long ago erode her own confidence in herself? Where would the future lead her?
This was a well-written story that moved at a leisurely pace. Samantha was the “star” in my opinion, never giving up on her friend and encouraging her every step of the way. It felt good to see such a friendship that Joy evidently needed to regain her motivation and self-confidence. Would Mark make up for his devastating treatment of her when he had first left town? Grab your copy of the book and see where this new venture is leading!

Broken Dreams is about Joy who has lost her joy. She let someone else tell her, her worth instead of believing in herself. She returns to her hometown in a state of depression that she is not allowed to linger in because of her best friend, Samantha. Samantha and Joy find a broken down coffee shop that they decide to rent and enter in Joy finding herself, her Joy, love, and self worth. She literally finds love in a broken place. Emma Evans creates great and likable characters. She always tells a great story that includes extra characters that you finish the story wanting to read more about. I enjoyed this book!
