Parrish Locke has a gift she never asked for; yet is compelled to use for the good of the ‘stalled souls’ that need her help.
This second installment in the ‘Limbo Series’ finds 27 year-old Parrish going to Evanston, Wyoming. She must unravel the circumstances surrounding the 1974 death of a popular teenage cheerleader named Cecily (Cece) Adams.
All is not what it appears to be, or what the … be, or what the records show. Parrish takes a trip back to the tumultuous 1970’s to re-live the events leading up to Cece’s untimely death.
During Parrish’s episode she reaches out to her newly acquainted father, Nick, for support and guidance. Nick contacts an old acquaintance of his who was previously with the FBI and calls in a favor.
That favor brings sinfully sexy Marco Trevani Jr., an FBI agent into the picture and into Parrish’s life.
One relationship fizzles, and another one sizzles!

Broken Dreams
Beyond Series, Book 2
By: Andrea Smith
Narrated by: David Black, Amanda Stribling
Andrea Smith pens another amazing novel in her “Beyond” series and I loved every minute of it. She is a gifted author with a brilliant and creative mind, she cleverly combines several genres into this fascinating story, including fantasy, paranormal, suspense, crime drama and a great romance. It is the perfect combination of genres and perfect for lovers of anyone of them. We learned in the first book that Parrish Locke has the ability to speak to the spirits of the dead who are in limbo for one reason or another. Parrish’s deceased mother is no longer in limbo but she promised to keep. In this book her Mom asks her to help another who is stuck in limbo, Cece Adams in Evanston, Wyoming, a teenager who died in a car accident. Parrish visits her at the cemetery and soon finds herself back in time, in the 1970’s living Cece’s life as a girl in H.S breaking up with Eric, who was not just her boyfriend but her best friend, they grew up right next to each other. Cece’s Mom pushed for her to socialize with the better crowd which she did and she started dating Marshall, but there was something about Marshall that frightened her and they wound up breaking up. She thought Eric moved on already, but turns out he broke it off with the girl he was dating, Angie, Marshall’s ex. Parrish learns a lot from her time spent as Cece, she tells her father who calls in a favor to have the FBI look into it. Hello Agent Mathews and Marco Trevani Jr., who’s father we met in the first book and Taz is from the G-man series. Marco was a bit skeptical at first but when evidence shows proof he believes and they soon have a case on their hands. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is brilliantly plotted and there is never a dull moment. We have the drama from Cece’s story, the mystery, twists, thrilling suspenseful moments, the heartfelt and emotional moments and the great romance between Cece and Eric. Then there is Parrish’s own personal drama with her boyfriend Ryan, then some more drama with Marco who clearly has a thing for her, well not clear to Parrish. There is some hot romance in this book as well. I loved how the case worked out and how it ends, hopefully with a new beginning. Andrea Smith, thank you for another awesome story, the emotional rollercoaster ride and the exciting journey and trip back to the 70’s there sure was some great music made in those times.
I listened to the Audiobook edition, David Black and Amanda Stribling are talented narrators and voice artists. They bring the characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice and personality. Their portrayal of the characters was perfection, sounding just as I imagined they would sound. They are entertaining storytellers and it was a pleasure to listen to their duet performance. Thank you for another awesome listen
Broken Dreams is the second book in the Beyond Series and it fully measures up to the first. Parrish Locke has a gift, perhaps a curse, that allows her to inhabit the ghost of someone stuck in limbo, trying to tell their story. Cece is a 17-year old junior and is in love with her best friend, Erik. She was on her way to tell him something important when she encountered tragedy along the road. A psychotic classmate intended to make her pay for dropping him and he had a devious plan. Cece’s death is ruled a tragic accident but, when she joins forces with Parrish, all of the truth comes to light. To prove that it was murder, Parrish needed help from the FBI and she ended up “working” with Agent Marco Trevani. They were facing their own personal demons but, when they were together, they were combustible. A no strings relationship was what Parrish said she wanted, but her heart got involved. Marco, on the other hand, was unlikeable and almost emotionless when he admitted that he had other women. He was harsh when he argued with Parrish, telling her that he was only doing what she wanted. There was something so wrong with his insensitive attitude, especially since Parrish’s ex had just cheated on her. It’s a personal issue for me and it probably won’t bother you at all. After the case is cleared up and Cece is allowed to cross over, Parrish decides to change her life and leave modeling behind. Her father has a ski chalet and he could use some help! Marco somewhat redeemed himself by taking a new job near her, and they do have a HFN ending.
This audiobook was narrated beautifully by David Black and Amanda Stribling. Their voices and passion brought the story to life!
Andrea has done it again. We go on another adventure with Parrish and its a fun ride. We meet Erik and CeCe and follow their love story and see what happens to them both. We also meet the very sexy Marco Trevani, Jr., and boy is he hot. He is an FBI agent brought in by Dominic to help Parrish solve the mystery. They clash right off the bat, there is an underlying sexual tension between them and it’s sizzling. You will have to read to find out just how hot it gets. This was another amazing love story and I would recommend for everybody to read this. It’s full of emotional turmoil with bits of humor mixed in.
Clouds In My Coffee by Andrea Smith is an amazing romantic suspense with a little paranormal twist. Ms. Smith has delivered a well-written book. Kudos to Ms. Smith for the fantastic characters in this book. I love their personalities and interactions. Parrish is gifted, she sees dead people. I could go on and say more about the story, but I’m afraid I’d give the good parts away so I’ll just tell you there is plenty of suspense, humor, drama and sizzle to keep readers glued to this book. If you’re a fan of paranormals, which I’m not, you’ll totally fall in love with this book. If I, not being a fan of paranormals love it, fans will too. I enjoyed this book from page one till the end and look forward to reading more from Andrea Smith in the future. Clouds In My Coffee is book 2 of the Limbo Series but can be read as a standalone. I suggest reading book 1 of the series first to get the backstory on how Parrish discovers her gift.
Man, this series just keeps getting better! Same characters with a couple of new additions along the way that make this book a fantastic hit! To help a ghost while solving a mystery is amazing and then to help bring closure makes it even better. All I can hope for is MORE!!!
Broken Dreams
Beyond Series, Book 2
By: Andrea Smith
Narrated by: David Black, Amanda Stribling
The Beyond series has me captivated! You know, it’s that feeling that you can’t stop listening and feel like you are experiencing the story with the character! That is what Broken Dreams did for me. Parrish is making good on her promise to her mother to help other souls find the answers they need to finally rest. Her first meeting is with CeCe Adams, a girl who died when she was 18. There are no suspicious circumstances noted at the time, but now with the help of Parrish the truth is being sought out. Smith weaves a story between the past and present, letting us live the life of Cece, her boyfriend Erik and the craziness of high school. From the first meeting with these characters, I knew we were in for a wild ride, and it’s exactly that! We also get a little romance for Parrish with FBI agent Marco Trevani as he helps the investigation. Fun, smartly written and suspenseful, it’s easy to get pulled in. A great addition to this series.
Amanda Stribling and David Black bring this story to life with a fantastic duet narration. Each character voiced perfectly, and a lot of emotional angst felt through their performance as the teens go through their daily lives. It’s a fantastic performance.

I loved book 1 in the Limbo series, and book 2 Broken Dreams (Clouds in my Coffee) followed the same trajectory with Parrish Locke using her ‘gift’ of being able to talk to ghosts, or ‘stalled souls’, as she calls them, to solve unknown crimes and help the souls to pass through, so to speak. This time Parrish goes back to 1974 where she becomes Cecile (CeCe) Adams, living and breathing her life up until her untimely death. When she comes back to her life as Parrish she teams up with sexy FBI agent Marco Trevani to put the pieces together and solve the ‘crime’. I listened to the audio version with David Black narrating all male POVs and Amanda Stribling narrating all female POVs, both in duet. I love them narrating together, they always make me feel all the emotions, and I can assure you I felt it all. I loved this story, I love the fact that Parrish solves her own mystery in book 1, and she now has a mother on the other side, along with a father, a step mother, and an adoptive mother in the here and now, encouraging her, loving and supporting her, as she navigates her new normal. I do so hope that she eventually gets the happy ending, she deserves. Highly addictive, and enjoyable sexy drama. I loved it.
In Broken Promise Parrish discovers she has an interesting gift. In Broken Dreams she uses her her new found talent with help to solve a forty year old murder case. Her help comes in the way of a you guessed right a hot FBI agent Marco Trevani Jr, plus the added bonus of a brief visit with Taz Matthews from the G-man series.
Although this is a tragic love story Parrish & Marco’s is just budding into hot steamy uncharted territory. Anxious to see where it leads along with Parrish and her gift.
Amanda & David did a wonderful job narrating.
