“Pop Princess Disappears!”“Is C-James in Rehab?”“The C-James Vanishing Act Continues!”Since I left the public eye weeks ago, I’ve been headline news on all the gossip sites. If only they knew the truth. Sorry. Let me back up and introduce myself. I’m Charlotte James. That’s right. International pop royalty, megastar, and now, freshman piano performance major at Marycliff University. After having … megastar, and now, freshman piano performance major at Marycliff University.
After having every move recorded for nearly a decade, I need a break. From my mom micromanaging my entire life. From being “on” all the time. From the constant touring, performing, and manufacturing hits one after the other.
So I enlisted the help of my friend Jonny B and his new fiancée Gabby to help me nail my audition for the music department. With a new look and my real name, no one has a clue who I am.
Not even the guy I’m dating.
I want to tell him, but as long as he’s in the dark, I get to be just plain Charlie. It’s too much of a risk to tell him the truth.
Because how will I survive if my two worlds collide?

We first met Charlotte James when we read about Jonathan and Gabby and now we get to read more about Charlotte and her life. Charlotte has been working the majority of her life as a rising pop star but she is tired and wants to pursue other things. With the help of Jonathan and Gabby, she gets into the music program at Marycliff as a freshman piano performance major. She changes her appearance so that she is not recognizable to the other students around the school. Only the dean of schools, the school security and Lauren (her roommate) knows who she really is.
When she meets Damian and they started dating and having a relationship, even Damien doesn’t know that Charlie Baxter is also Charlotte James. Charlie just wants to be a regular college student and is afraid that Damian’s feelings for her will change if and when he realizes who she is. Charlie knows she needs to tell Damian but keeps pushing it off.
When Charlie and Damian attends Gabby and Jonathan’s wedding, Charlie knows that there will be a lot of industry people at the wedding but still thinks she can pull off her Charlie identify. However, things never works out as she had hoped and now she must figure out how to explain everything to Damian. Will Damian be as understanding as he has been or will this tear them apart. And Charlie has to decide how to proceed once she can’t pretend to be just a college student anymore.
I can’t wait to find out what’s next for Charlie and Damian. This is such a great read!
This is a well written, refreshing and captivating sweet romance.
The book is an enjoyable, exciting read with passion, realistic characters, intrigue, steamy sex, love, and a cliff-hanger ending.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Broken Chords is a great read. Charlotte is an international pop princess. She needs a break so she head off to Marycliff University as a piano performance major. At college she goes by Charlie. Only a very few people know Charlie is Charlotte. She gets to have a glimpse of the normal college life. She meets Damian. Damian is also a music major. He’s sweet and nice. These two are sweet and great together. Event hose these two are falling in love, Charlie keeps the Charlotte part of her life secret from Damian. I know Charlie wanted a normal life but it frustrated me a little that she didn’t tell Damian about her past. As I was swooning over their love story, I was also waiting for Charlie’s Charlotte part to come to light.
After reading the Marycliff Players series it leads right into the Songs and Sonatas series. In this the fourth book of the series we follow Charlotte James, pop princess, as she tries to be a normal college student. While fighting her overbearing stage mom as well as all the pressures of her career, she finds a man who wants her for her Charlie the pianist, and not what she can give them or whom she is. Damian is a just a geeky cello player that feels he never has that spark that makes the women he wants, want him. That is until he meets Charlie, then they clash in the best way possible. This story was amazing and I can’t wait to see what happens in Counterpoint and Harmony. Damian and Charlie balance each other out so well, they bring out the best in each other. I truly have fallen in love with this story. Charlie’s story is one that is tough, what she has gone through. Another hit by an author that knows how to weave a story around you and you never want to leave.
We meet Charlie and Damian in book 4 of this series and I love how the books are all linked in a natural way. Charlie is hiding from her life and trying for once to be a normal person doing it on her own, what she didn’t expect was to meet Damian and now Marycliff University is even better than before. We get to see then as they first meet and I love how Damian is so attentive and wants to take things slowly and really get to know who, which is something she isn’t use. You go through a lot of emotions with them as they try and find their way with each other and within themselves but will Charlies secret ruin everything?
I have been wanting Charlie to get her own book from the very beginning and now that I have read it, I’m completely gutted. The ending! I was not prepared for that! I knew something was going to come up but didn’t think it would be like that! I need more!

Several times a day I have random thoughts that make me go hmmm. There is one in particular that I have wondered about since I was a child. What would it be like to live as a fish in a fishbowl and having your entire life viewed from all angles? I can imagine it is exactly how Charlie feels. I felt for her pain in wishing for privacy or just a chance to live without wondering if somehow (whether good or bad) every thing you do will be scrutinized or used against you in an ulterior motive.
Just like in previous stories in this series the author does a phenomenal job of tying in the elements of music and introducing the audience to things they might not otherwise know about it. I know that despite my love of music, I truly do not know all that goes into it. I just enjoy it but with this author’s help I learn how it is all intrinsically connected.
Charlotte/Charlie. I felt for her. I was able to connect with her and her desire to be someone else for a moment. To have the chance to go back to being unknown but still have the chance to pursue her love of music.I had no idea that there was this much depth to her character after reading about her in the previous story. Damian. This sweet delicious man. I loved that for the first time he was able to give Charlie a chance to be loved not for her fame but as a person. Yet, time and time again we have learned nothing good comes from lies, even lies of omission. I am looking forward to the next book and the conclusion of their story.
This was my favorite of the Sonata series. I am enjoying this author and her style. She just keeps getting better and better.
