My name is Savannah Miller.
My father is the mayor of New York. One day after my twenty-seventh birthday I was grabbed from behind. A cloth sack was quickly pulled over my head, and I was taken from everything I’d ever known.
I was beaten, starved, treated like an animal, and forced to live in a room with no windows. With no sense of time and no dignity left I finally gave up hope and made a … hope and made a promise to myself to end it all. Unfortunately, it was going to be a slow process.
Then one night an elite group of US Army soldiers came to my rescue. I was brought to a safe house and given two options:
One — Stay under their protection and follow their rules or…
Two — Leave and be guaranteed to be returned to the savages within a week.
I chose option one.
As I work with a therapist and begin processing my hellish ordeal things slowly begin to surface. With the help of new friends and a potential new love I fight to get my life back and make choices that will forever alter my future.
This is my story…

Oh, how I loved this book! Romantic suspense is one of my favorite sub-genre’s to explore and this book hit the nail right on the head. I loved everything this story had to offer..action, suspense, mystery, violence, love and all the good stuff that comes along with that last one. Cole is one top dog alpha and everything about that man makes my heart melt!
I routinely enter JL Drake in the Amazon search bar just to make sure I haven’t missed anything. After reading this series which starts off with a bang and just keeps getting better, I immediately read all of Ms. Drake’s books. This trilogy remains my favorite along with The Blackstone Series, a continuation of the story. The characters are real and gritty and oh, so lovable, and the plot is the perfect blend of action and suspense.
I have read this book more than once.
This is my absolute favourite author.
Right from the beginning of this book you are sucked in, the first page grabs you.
Savi is kidnaped, her Dad is Mayor.
This gentleman in Mexico buys her, yup you read right – bought her. She is sold, about to be taken to her new home, when she is rescued by Blackstone, a team of ex-SEAL members. Cole, their leader takes special interest in her.
This book is the first part of a trilogy of her story and the beginning of their epic love story.
Twist those heart strings!
Oh my goodness! How can one book make you want to cry and scream and cheer all at once? Savi’s story is extremely emotional but her strength shines through. Cole makes me want to go out and get taken if him and his men are the ones to come save me! What will the next book bring? I can’t wait to find out!
I fell in love with cole and Savi from the beginning. I could not put this book down once I picked it up. The ending may have taken a piece of my soul with the cliff hanger but it just made me want to pick up book two even more. I highly recommend falling in love with cole and Savi
Hooks you from word one and all I can say is have the second book already downloaded before you finish this one. You will not want to wait even a second to start book 2.
When it comes to what I read, I usually just go in blind and find something that speaks to me in the blurb. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. When I first read the blurb for Broken, I was instantly hooked. And then I read the prologue and BAM, I knew that this book would be one for the shelves, in a matter of speaking. Unfortunately, my house would never hold all the books I want to read, have read, will read, etc, so for now… my library is on a Kindle. And that’s okay. I found Broken while browsing through the Kindle Unlimited Store. This book, this whole trilogy, left me wanting more. Needing more.
Once I got past the prologue, the opening scene drew me in like a moth to a flame. I was transported into the book. Each and every detail made it like a movie was playing in my head. I could see everything, feel everything. I was in the moment. The opening scene is captivating in a way that is intoxicating, but still makes you gasp and shiver because it is so intense. As the story continues, you get sucked in even more because you HAVE TO KNOW what is happening. You can’t stop from turning the page.
I won’t give much away in my reviews because I want you to be in the moment, feel each and every moment with your own two eyes as the story evolves around you. This is a thrilling romance novel that has you gasping for more, needing it like oxygen in your lungs. The kissing scenes make you want that kind of kiss in your life and the sex scenes. Oh those sex scenes. They send shivers to all the right places, if you catch my drift. It’s not overly raunchy but just enough to be like HOT DAMN. Intense is an understatement and let me tell you, it may not be your cup of tea, but it pulls the story together fantastically.
Now this book is part of a trilogy. And not the type where a new hero or heroine is portrayed in each one, but a full on trilogy focusing on a hero and a heroine. So needless to say, there is a cliffhanger at the end. And this cliffhanger will have you screaming WHAT IN THE… because I promise the first time I read this… that is exactly what I yelled. Only I believe my language was a lot more colorful and then I had to explain to my six year old that that language is NOT to be used.
With all of that being said. I give this book a shining 5 stars. It took me to the places, it gave me just enough detail to play out in my head, it gave me goosebumps and made me shiver. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly suggest it. And if sex scenes aren’t your style, I promise they aren’t the entirety of the book. The entire book gives you something to hold onto and those sex scenes just intensify the moments between the two stars.
I finally got around to reading Broken by author J.L. Drake and it was fantastic! I cannot believe I’ve been missing out on her books all this time. Savannah and Cole’s story was beautifully written with so much depth and raw emotions that it pulled at my heartstring. I loved the character of Savannah so much because despite being vulnerable at times, she showed great stength, courage and determination at reclaiming her life. And then there’s Cole who loved, protected, and gave her a family made up of his team. I devoured this book with all the twists and turns which included a cliffhanger that had me wanting more! I have become an instant fan of this author’s writing and will definitely be reading her other books.
This started out really great. The synopsis had me thinking this was going to be really dark and gritty and…… it wasn’t. Not at all. But yet, I was really enjoying it. I liked how the story was going until around 35-40%, and then I felt like I was reading a chick-lit romance novel. It finally picked up again to what the story was originally about around the last 15%.
The writing itself was really good, the story could have had so much more potential if it didn’t veer off course for as long as it did. I don’t think there is one character that I didn’t like. There are some cliche moments where I found myself rolling my eyes, but there were also moments where I needed to know what was going to happen next. And since one of those moments was in the last part of the book, I will definitely be reading the next one.
Fingers crossed, that the second book will be a bit darker and less cliche on the romance.
KU. This is Book 1 of 3. Books 1 & 2 end on cliffhangers. Really, they’re more like novellas. I read all 3 in less than 8 hours. You can borrow “The Broken Series” on KU either individually (Broken, Shattered, & Mended) or as a single boxed set.
I actually listened to “Honor” first, which was a spin-off from this ~ so I’d already “met” most of the characters from the series in what their lives were like “after”. I wish I’d found them in order, but I don’t think it hindered my ability to enjoy the trilogy.
On its own, this a 4 star read. It’s an engaging story with interesting characters.
As a whole experience I give the series a 3. Mostly because it’s exhausting. Literally EVERYTHING happens to this couple. For the length, it’s overwhelming and not even remotely believable.
Broken by J. L Drake is book One in the Broken Trilogy. This starts the story of Savannah Miller.
Savannah was kidnapped and treated very poorly until she was rescued by Special Forces but her being returned to her normal life was not happening. Savannah was taken to a safe house where she meets Cole. But this only starts her story with him and some secrets that are being held. This next book is Shattered.
I’ve done it…finally popped my J.L. Drake cherry. My goodness what a ride this book took me on.
If ever there was a trilogy that I am so thankful for waiting until all books are published, this one takes the cake! The ending has me diving right into book 2. Kudos to all who read this book when it first released and survived this heck of a cliffy!!
4.5 nail biting stars!!!
Love all books J L Drake but this series was one of my favorite, highly recommend reading them ALL
“I look and feel nothing like my old self. I am someone else now, and I have no idea who that is. I feel completely lost.”
This series will have you on the edge of your seat. Wondering who to trust. There are so many twist and turns.
“It’s like someone got inside my head, found my deepest desire, and created you.”
My heart would flutter and the next full out pound from one moment to the next as I was taken on a twisted ride with this series.
“Stop worrying about what you should be feeling and just feel. Life is too short to float, so sink a little and start living.”
As you get deeper in the series you fall more in love with the characters. You’ll admire the loyalty, be disgusted with the betrayal and fear the enemy and finally melt with the romantic moments.
“I’m scared.”
“I’ve fallen for you,
Please catch me.”
