Baby-killer. Ex-con. Joe Brody has been called a lot of things. Some true. Some not. But now that he’s out of prison and back in his hometown his focus is getting a job and a home for his ill father to convalesce. Easier said than done when no one will hire him.Ashley Cade has a teething toddler and lives with an elderly man as part of an agreement she made to buy his house. Complicated? Not as … Complicated? Not as much as it sounds. Wilson is a dear and his huge Victorian a gem in the rough. The lonely old man even recommends a friend’s son as a handyman to help with the repairs and finally Ashley is making progress. And Joe? Joe is… intriguing to say the least.
But when the police chief tracks Joe down and Ashley discovers the truth, everything changes. Wilson swears Joe is innocent. Joe swears he’s innocent. But the evidence says otherwise and she doesn’t know who to believe when her child’s life–and her future business–are at stake….

Ashely has a lot going on in her life. Her small son max is just starting to get his teeth. Her live in grandpa for his Wilson has had a hip replacement so he is moving around with a walking. On top of that she is trying to remodel the old Victorian house into a b&b.
Joe is just out of ten years in person for a crime he didn’t commit. The death of his baby they have put at his hands. This isn’t true and even after ten years he still says he didn’t shake his baby girl Josie. Ted Joe’s dad has been on his side the whole time. No doubts. The town and chief is another story.
I had reservations at first since the story is about an ex-con. But the author moved the story well, and in the end, a happily-ever-after. Give it a try. It’s well written.
Awesome book
tear jerker
Never saw the ending coming. Obviously we were going to get a happy ending-but the author was brilliant in how she got there. I’ll look for more Kay Lyons book in the future.
Although they don’t seem to have had sex on the page, there’s a line or two that mean they might have. There was certainly a lot of sexual tension.
The dialogue seemed natural and scenes well described.
The overall plot was good, too.
This story kind of showed the bad side of small towns. With very few exceptions the locals were reluctant to befriend the new girl, or to trust the returning young man.
Whew this one tugs on the heart strings. But it is so well done. Loved both characters. It’s a very sweet romantic story.
This story has mystery, suspense and moved at a steady pace. It had a happy ever after ending. A enjoyable read.
WOW! This is only the second book I have read by this author, but her books are so emotional, and I have enjoyed reading them. They are well written, flow smoothly, and have great story lines. Her characters are so lovable and realistic that it’s hard not to fall in love with them and their stories. Just be sure and have a box of tissues handy because they are so emotional.
Ashley Cade was a widow with a young son. She had found her way to Taylorsville, bought the Willow Wood house, and was trying repair it so she could open her dream Bed and Breakfast. With limited money and experience, she needed someone to help her. Joe Brody was finally out of prison after serving ten years for a crime he didn’t do. He was desperate for a job and no one in town would give him a chance, but when he showed up on Ashley’s door, she was desperate for help and didn’t know his history. When she learns of his past, will she give him a chance or jump to conclusions like everyone else in town did. This is the first book in the Small-Town Scandals series and I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the series. The next book is Melissa’s and it looks like another great book.
I admit that I spent time wondering how the hero would be redeemed as it was a tough issue, however, Lyons pulled it off in a heart warming story that endeared the hero to me and the heroine almost immediately. I enjoyed the sweet romance and look forward to the future story line of the secondary characters (yes, I read the sneak peek for book 2) as I enjoyed both of them as people and think they will make for a great story. Worth staying up late to finish – as I did!
This book redeemed my faith in romance novels! Just when I was ready to give up on cookie-cutter romances with the same old tropes, this beautiful story found its way to my Kindle and straight into my heart. WOW!
Brody’s Redemption has everything you could ever want in a romance novel. Joe Brody is a tormented, tough yet gentle guy needing compassion and love after serving ten years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. (He’s also gorgeous, in case you wondered.) Ashley Cade is a lovely young widow (with an adorable baby boy) who hires Joe to help her turn a rundown old house into a bed & breakfast in their small town, but they face many challenges in the process.
If this plot sounds familiar, don’t worry–it’s not. This unusual love story is a gripping combination of mystery and suspense, small town drama, an ingenious “big reveal” and a Happily Ever After ending that left me in tears. Happy tears.
No plot summary this time, because nothing should spoil this remarkable story of redeeming love. If you enjoy clean and wholesome romances with fresh plots, engaging characters and no cliffhangers, you will love this beautifully written book. I’m so glad I discovered this new series by Kay Lyons. Highly recommended.
The unfortunate loss of a child, a conviction of an innocent man, a small town where everyone does not follow the same path but rather has those that believe in searching for the truth, a widow raised as an orphan, and an amazing story of attraction and love that will capture your heart! A must read that does not need the steamy sex scenes often found today, but captures keeps you glued to the absolutely beautiful love story found on its pages!
I really loved this book. I think I believed from the beginning that Brody did not kill his little girl. The interaction between the 2 main characters was full of inspiration that people can change and love again.
loved this story
a very different hero
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
It held my interest all the way through. Totally captivating.
Great Book
I loved this book, I loved the interaction between the main characters. This book does Second Chances very well.
Ten years in prison for an innocent man is not an enjoyable read.
