Ansley Wilder has always lived life on the wild side, using thrills to numb the pain from her past and escape her mistakes. But a near-death experience two years ago changed everything. When another incident nearly claims her life, she turns her thrill-seeking ways into a fight for survival. Ryan Philips left Fog Lake to chase adventure far from home. Now he’s returned as the new fire chief in … chief in town, but the slower paced life he seeks is nowhere to be found. Not only is a wildfire blazing out of control, but a malicious killer known as “The Woodsman” is enacting crimes that appear accidental. Plus, there seems to be a strange connection with these incidents and his best friend’s little sister, Ansley Wilder.
As a killer watches their every move and the forest fire threatens to destroy their scenic town, both Ryan and Ansley hover on the brink of danger. One wrong move could send them tumbling over the edge . . . permanently.

The Fog Lake Suspense novels are some of Christy Barritt’s best, in my opinion! The stories start in the mind of the evil one and keep you on the edge of your seat. I love that she gave Ansley her own story…she’s a wild child but so relatable. The characters are great and the story was engaging.
Wow, this third installment in the Fog Lake Mysteries kept me guessing all the way through! Each book centers on one of the Wilder siblings, and this time it was time to learn more about Ansley. She has been a wild child and carries alot of fears and baggage, but just as she has finally begun to straighten out her life, she almost loses it. Enter Ryan back to Fog Lake, a good friend of her brothers, and a crush from her teenage years. Ryan brings along a lot of his own baggage, but right now his priority is to keep Ansley safe and to discover who is behind all the horrible things happening in Fog Lake. It was nice also to catch up with Boone and Luke, Ansley’s brothers, from previous Fog Lake Mysteries.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions are my own.
Barritt’s books are taut, enjoyable reads that combine romance, adventure and just a touch of inspirational thought in a wonderful blend. She has become one of my wife and my favorite authors.
Good suspense without being too intense. I love everything Christy writes.
Love her books
Brink of Danger is book three in the Fog Lake Mysteries and my favorite one yet.
My anxiety was high pretty much from the first word. There were times when I could hardly catch my breath. But thank goodness there were some lighter moments here and there where I could take a breather. My favorite of those moments were Ansley and Ryan’s teasing banter and sarcastic remarks. They were fun to get to know.
The Woodsman was such a creepy villain. We got to see things from their perspective a few times and wow! Chilling, to say the least. I had my suspicions about who the Woodsman was, though I kept talking myself out of it because there were plenty of other viable suspects. So I guess you could say that I had it figured out, but then I didn’t have it figured out, lol.
With a gripping opening chapter and ever increasing suspense, Brink of Danger is an unputdownable must read for fans of romantic suspense.
I had an ARC copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot kept me interested and trying to figure it out until almost the end. Her characters are interesting and well developed. I enjoy the Fog Lake books and her description of the area.
Suspense and danger!
The third release in this series is another exciting, page-turning thrill ride! Ansley Wilder has faced many hard things in her life, and she has kept a hard attitude to match. After facing a near death experience, Ansley decides to turn her life around for the better. However, it seems that someone wants her dead or maybe just anyone that gets too close to her.
Ryan Philips returns to his hometown of Fog Lake to become the new fire chief. He is also looking to make a new start, but wonders if he is only trying to run away from his past failures.
Loved the characters and storyline. Christy Barritt continues to amaze with new and suspense filled stories!
Each edition of the Fog Lake Mysteries makes me want to read more.
In what should be an idyllic Smoky Mountain town, evil lurks just beneath the surface. In this round, wildfire, serial murders and creepy calling cards frighten residents and tourists alike. It seems that Ansley is a peripheral target. Her brothers and new firefighter Ryan attempt to keep her safe and work to solve the crimes before it’s too late.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
Ainsley’s story starts fast and furious and does not let up until the end. Barritt at her best.
Mysteries, fires, and hidden secrets – that’s what suspense books are made of!! This newest installment of the Fog Lake series has all of these and more! This story focuses on Ansley Wilder, who has lived a “wild life” but has tried to clean up her life after a near death experience. When it seems that someone is targeting her, firefighter Ryan Phillips steps in to help keep her safe but Ryan has his own secrets as well. With a raging fire coming closer to the town of Fog Lake, can they find out what is going on before “The Woodsman” strikes again!! This can be read as a stand alone but you will want to read all the books in this series that focuses on the Wilder family!
