Mackenzie Miller felt her entire world collapse with the sudden death of her parents. She felt that she had lost everything and needed to completely escape. She found refuge in her career and rose through the ranks at the FBI quickly because she walked away from her home, her friends, and the man she loved to immerse herself in her work. Focusing on her career allowed her to suppress the pain, … the loss, and the loneliness she had felt and it had served her and those depending on her well.
Mackenzie had spent her career working and becoming specialized in cases involving missing and exploited children. She was the top FBI trainer in child trafficking and had been instrumental in the capture of dozens of traffickers while saving the lives of numerous victims.
When Mackenzie was forced to return to her childhood home due to a family emergency, she was forced to face everything she had walked away from. She was now responsible for the family farm, her family ranch-style home, and all that it entailed. Also, just after her arrival, she was forced to face the only man she had ever loved; the man she had walked away from long ago, Lane.
While tending to her family business and battling the ghosts from her past, Mackenzie found herself pulled into a missing child case connected to one of her family members. She soon identifies similarities to cases she worked involving child trafficking. However, the good-old-boy, local law enforcement are completely blind to the facts and offer little assistance and resist her efforts.
A child is in danger. Local law enforcement offers zero assistance. Mackenzie’s family home and business need immediate attention. And the true love of her life is now back in the picture. Can Mackenzie handle all that she is facing, or should she walk away, once again, to avoid the emotions she has kept suppressed by her career all along?

Such a great thrilling crime story about sex trafficking. Found myself being paranoid while walking alone at night during this read. It’s that creepy! Really riveting and original!
Mackenzie is an amazing character. I loved this book. It is well written and very descriptive. I felt like I knew the characters and the Panhandle area as I read. Mackenzie faced past ghosts and stubborn local law enforcement when she is called home to deal with a family emergency. While getting drawn into a local case of a missing child, Mackenzie must navigate the Male-dominated good old boy groups that control the local law enforcement agencies. She also must face the true love of her life and confront all that she left behind to focus on her career. I cannot reccomend this book enough. Being set in the Panhandle, the reader will be introduced to a part of Florida that many do not even know exists.
One Agent’s Quest to Rescue Trafficking Victims and End Modern Slavery in America’s Heartland
Children of both genders and multiple ages have gone missing. This book was a mystery and crime thriller that also contained some romance. From the exposition to the resolution, the plot was both smooth and entertaining. I liked the personality of the characters and my favorite character was Missy due to her mental strength. This story brings to light that cruelty and crime toward children is a reality in this world, and some may never see their children again. I would read more by this author.
Powerful and Relevant Detective/Crime Story!
This was a great story, with the difficult subject matter of child trafficking and the horrendous abuse they suffer, well handled. The detective on the case Mackenzie Miller is a character who is in total control of her emotions and is able to deal with the case with empathy, but quite distant at the same time. The only time she’s in danger of losing it slightly is, when her ex-lover Lane turns up. It brings back memories and a longing she thought she’d forgotten about. It’s a really nice sub plot and makes the MC more like-able. It took me a while to get into the particular style of writing as I’m used to reading more dialogue based stories, but having said that, Wood’s style perfectly suits this genre. I’m hoping another book will come out featuring Mackenzie soon!
This page-turner had me hooked from the beginning until the end and it is definitely one of the best books I have read.
There are two stories in this novel. Mackenzie’s personal life story and her professional life story. The author successfully blends both aspects into a tightly woven and very gripping novel as she takes us back to Mack’s home in the Florida panhandle where she has returned for a family funeral. We learn of Mack’s rural background and how she left to join the FBI and, in doing so, gave up the chance of happiness with the man she loved. A man she is both fearful and hopeful to meet again.
Her expertise in missing children investigations soon draws her in to a case that is close to home and leads to a much wider investigation.
There is a procedural aspect to this novel but, at no time, is the reader allowed to become bogged down. Just like her description of rural life, the author describes everything the law enforcement people do in a way that is both interesting and informative.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It took me to a lovely, scenic place and it took me through a harrowing investigation.
Beautifully written crime thriller
In “Bring Our Children Home” author Luce Wood cleverly crafts a crime thriller around the harrowing topic of modern slavery and child trafficking. The character development is wonderful and helps draw you in to a thoroughly engaging book. Highly recommend! Looking forward to more from this very talented author.
Well written, intriguing story that grips throughout. Engaging, believable and honest characters that pull you through a storyline with emotive situations that engages the reader and compells you to the twisted ending. I will be checking for more of the same. Potentially a bestseller. Sheer entertainment.
Ok – My review is – Great book and well written. Loved the characters and good story line. FBI agent facing a bereavement becomes involved in saving a child from traffickers. The unexpected loss of McKenzie’s uncle leads to her meeting up with a childhood sweetheart and making and making a life changing decision – her career or….
FBI agent Makenzie Miller is intent on finding those who are missing, but as the case starts to evolve, alarm bells too begin to ring. The plot is realistic, the settings apt, but the horror of the reality is hard for most to stomach. This is a story of today’s world, harsh, cruel and often brushed under the carpet when the ones responsible should pay for their crimes. I found the writing unique, the style flawless, the words chosen with ultimate care while the narrative flowed with elegant ease. A gripping read, a real page turner from an author I for one, sincerely recommend.
This is not just another crime fiction or thriller novel. Luce Wood has obviously researched and immersed herself into this harrowing story, the characters and the area known as the Panhandle. I’ve never been to the States but after reading this amazingly detailed novel, I feel I have been there, and if I were a criminal, I’d be very anxious knowing that people like Mackenzie might be investigating me.
This is a beautifully crafted novel that you will eat into your free time, but what a wonderful way to pass a few hours. I think it took me over 8 hours to read this as there is so much detail relating to Mackenzie’s personality and background. It is not a book to skim through, but a succulent feast of great writing and a thrilling, gripping story. No plot spoilers, but Missy does survive.
The story focusses on FBI agent Mackenzie Miller who returns to her hometown farm in the panhandle area of Florida state following the sudden death of her Uncle.
She quickly becomes involved with the abduction of the child of her sister in laws sister, as this is an area of her work within the FBI she slots into the rhythm of the case naturally.
The story develops at a nice pace and is in line with the Panhandle area pace of life, which accelerates nicely towards the end, as the story reaches a climax.
There is a romantic story line, running parallel with the abduction keeping Mackenzie Miller a very realistic and believable person. It shows her strengths, weakness’ and vulnerability throughout.
This book covers an issue that the world needs to get a tighter grip on, Modern slavery and the abduction of children must be eradicated at a quicker pace than we see today, well done to author, Luce Wood, for tackling it head on.
I could say much more about the book but I would start giving the plot away. All I can say is it is a must read book and I strongly recommend anybody who likes a detective story sprinkled with romance to get your copy now! I could easily see this book becoming a Hallmark movie.
