The iconic #1 bestseller by Helen Fielding; Bridget Jones is now the inspiration for the September 2016 Working Title film release of Bridget Jones’s Baby, starring Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Patrick Dempsey and Emma Thompson. Bridget Jones’s Diary is the devastatingly self-aware, laugh-out-loud account of a year in the life of a thirty-something Singleton on a permanent doomed quest for … permanent doomed quest for self-improvement. Caught between the joys of Singleton fun, and the fear of dying alone and being found three weeks later half eaten by an Alsatian; tortured by Smug Married friends asking, “How’s your love life?” with lascivious, yet patronizing leers, Bridget resolves to: reduce the circumference of each thigh by 1.5 inches, visit the gym three times a week not just to buy a sandwich, form a functional relationship with a responsible adult and learn to program the VCR. With a blend of flighty charm, existential gloom, and endearing self-deprecation, Bridget Jones’s Diary has touched a raw nerve with millions of readers the world round. Read it and laugh—before you cry, “Bridget Jones is me!”

Enjoyed how the story is told in context of a diary of liquor and calories consumed and her weight fluctuations
Wish I had read the book prior to seeing the movie (that’s what I usually do) This book was clearly meant to be funny, and light-hearted, and it was. I love British humor and this book didn’t let me down. It made me look back on my 30’s with fondness and more than a little self-forgiveness. I love Bridget’s struggle with being a “singleton” in a …
A wonderful, easy read!
The book that remains the standard bearer of the chick-lit genre. Funny, endearing, memorable. A guaranteed good read.
If you missed the books (and only saw the movie), I recommend taking the time to read Bridgit’s diary. It is so funny. Granted, it was written for a nineties audience, but let’s not forget that Fielding drew on the most classic of material; material that has proven itself timeless again and again: Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice.

This probably my favorite book! I laugh every time I read it. It’s awesome!
I usually read the book before the movie comes out… but I knew seeing it in print would be better. Far better!
I have read this book over an over. So much fun. Bridget is every woman. I just fell in love with her.
Love this book!
I love all British chicklit books…
Bridget Jones is my Spirit Animal. This is the book I reach for when things are unpredictable in my life, the one I turn to over and over to banish the bad, and to make me smile.
This is the book that started “chick lit.” Literally Pride and Prejudice for the modern generation. Every girl has a little Bridget in her and we all have her struggles and self doubt so it’s easy to relate (even though she is insanely more outrageous than most of us.) I’ve read Bridget Jones’s Diary many times and I’m sure I’ll read it many more. …
