4.5 stars rounded up for this is great collection of stories.
Hawaiian Masquerade~5 stars
Lexi Burke goes to Hawaii to decide what her next step in life will be. She’s tired of running a business and being tied to her computer and phone all the time. She escapes to Kauai to relax and figure out what she wants to do next. That’s when she meets Derek, a photographer who doesn’t care for rich tourists. I see some conflict in their future when he finds out what Lexi’s hiding.
This is a fun opposites attract story. Who wouldn’t want to escape a freezing Chicago winter to beautiful Kauai? I liked seeing all the fun things Lexi does. The author gives the reader the feeling of being there. I like romances where the characters don’t play games and can discuss their issues like adults.
Diamond Rings Are Deadly Things~5 stars
Adrielle Pyper is a wedding planner extraordinaire. It’s all she’s ever wanted to do and she’s great at it. She has her own business, Adrielle Pyper’s Dream Weddings, and she and her mom have a website where they post wedding planning ideas and her mom’s craft how-to’s. She’s just expanded her business to include wedding dresses, but when the first shipment comes in one of the dresses is missing and another is damaged. An unexpected surprise turns up in one of the dresses, then the store is broken into and several of the new wedding dresses are stolen, along with the office’s floor safe! What is going on?! Adri’s got two celebrity weddings coming up in just a couple of months–she doesn’t have time to be sidelined (or sidetracked) by all of the weird things that are happening.
I don’t see how Adrielle held it together–between the strange things going on with the wedding dress shipment, the store being burglarized, threatening notes, a diva/bridezilla on the rampage, trying to figure out what’s going on, she still had to plan two important weddings, and she’s trying to figure out which guy she’s really attracted to.
I changed my mind several times on who the guilty person was. I was totally surprised by the ending and how it connected to why she moved to Sun Valley, Idaho. I love that she adopted the stray kitten and how he ends up saving her and helping to catch the guilty party. The wedding and craft ideas at the beginning of each chapter are fun and I saved some of them. The author does a great job keeping the suspense going throughout the book and keeping the reader guessing who did it.
The Kiss Thief~4 stars
Britta Klein is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, German beauty who hides her German heritage after being teased and made fun of it in school. She’s the head librarian at the town’s library, which used to be a church, and is in charge of the Harvest Hurrah fundraiser to finish the library’s much needed renovations. Milo Geissler is a handsome musician and piano tuner who is proud of his German heritage. Part of the fundraiser is collecting classic books for the library, and Milo and Britta help each other find the books they’ve each been assigned to donate. Britta’s heart is closed to falling in love with a German man because of how she was treated growing up. Can Milo help Britta open her heart to the song of love?
I really liked this story. I like the small town setting, and the story is long enough to get to know the background of the characters so their romance didn’t seem rushed. I liked Milo’s character–he was there for Britta and won her over by his thoughtfulness and kindness. I kind of understood why Britta had sworn off German men considering how she had been treated in school, but I don’t think she took into consideration that times had changed and what happened to her wouldn’t necessarily happen to her children. One of my favorite scenes was the Harvest Hurrah carriage ride where they finally have a chance to talk and Britta finds out she totally misunderstood what Milo had been teased about in school. I appreciated the epilogue that takes place 3 months later. It gave me a satisfying ending to Britta and Milo’s story.
How to Fetch a Fiance~4 stars
Audrey, a vocal coach, and her 2 young daughters are making a new home in Nashville, TN. While at the park playing Frisbee with her 2 yr old German Shepherd, Duke, she’s meets Troy when the Frisbee hits him in the head and her dog knocks him down. If she’s embarrassed then it only gets worse when she goes to Arise Music for an interview to be a vocal coach for an up and coming Christian singer, and finds out that the man she knocked in the head and her dog pounced on, is none other than the owner of Arise Music. They have a connection pretty quickly even though he hasn’t dated anyone in several years and she’s still getting over a cheating husband.
It’s a cute story and I enjoyed the sweet things Troy and Audrey did together. Dinner at his huge mansion followed by chasing fireflies, inviting her and her daughters over for dinner, fishing in his pond, their own private July 4th fireworks show. He included her daughters whenever he could.
I didn’t like how Audrey shut Troy out so quickly when she found out about his past. The past he left behind 5 yrs earlier when he found God and turned his life around. I understood why she did it but she didn’t listen to him when he tried to explain. I was glad her best friend brings it to her attention that Troy has turned his life around and he treated her with respect unlike her ex-husband. Not all men were like her ex. I can understand why Troy was so hesitant to tell her about his past and he planned to that one night until one of her girls disrupted their conversation and ruined the moment. I thought it was cute that Duke ate the letter Troy slipped under her door and she had to put it back together to read it.
I’d previously read all of these books before they were in this collection.
